I just got this same exact one recently but I’m not getting full speeds, I got a Crucial P3 and it’s read and write is supposed to be 3.5gb/s but I’m only getting 1gb/s with this enclosure but I decided to open up my laptop and put it in the other PCIe slot and I’m getting full speed now

    • @petar1401
      @petar1401 Год назад +53

6 days for a response might be a bit late, but this is the answer: the enclosure clearly says it supports speeds up to 10gbps. When you divide that by 8 to get GBps (which is what your PC shows during transfers or speed tests), you get 1.25. Add some losses due to multiple interface changes (pcie 4x4 to usb and back) and cable resistance and the max real world speed comes to almost exactly 1GBps. If you want higher speeds look at some other models. Orico makes enclosures that support 20 or even 40gbps.Those are obviously more expensive, but if you want faster stuff you have to pay for it. Keep in mind that you also need a compatible port on your computer to get those higher speeds. For 20 gbps you need at least usb 3.2 gen 2x2, and for 40bgps you will need usb4 or thunderbolt 3 or 4.
Tldr. your enclosure performs exactly as advertised, there's no problem.

That probably because of your usb hub limitations/or USB limitations in General. The pcie slots are optimized and made for this and a converter will slow it down significantly

You can use any ssd of any brand and that of any size (upto 2 tb, beyond that it might not fit in the case due to number of NAND chips on each side of SSD, which ultimately increases the thickness of drive).
Just make sure SSD must have same supporting Protocols as of case.

(Not sure about Mac ARM chips, but on INTEL chips, yes, definitely you can)
      Remember 2 things,
First : Microsoft doesn't allow you to install Windows OS directly on devices connected via USB by traditional methods (ie, making a bootable pendrive and installing a Windows OS from bootable pendrive by formatting the main drive[connected via USB interface] or creating partitions [on same disk] and proceeding ahead.
For this, there are 3 solutions :
Either clone Windows OS from any other machine currently running on Windows OS (Remember, it wastes too much drive space, worst way)
      OR
Either install Windows OS via CLI (Best but risky if you haven't done it earlier)
      OR
Plug the main drive onto the motherboard and install windows OS via traditional methods,
Again, the best way, but the required disk slot should be present on Motherboard)
Second : Always make sure you use USB 3 or above supported ports for plugging an external drive as an OS drive for your PC
OR your experience of running OS from external drive could be much worse than running an OS from internal old hdd's 😂
Because of limitations of Port speeds
      (USB 2.0 or below)
TIP : If you are a techy, you can multi boot an external drive 😉
(Requires a lot of R&D and time, but yes, you can (eg, Windows, linux, Mac OS, Tails, etc) on a single external disk)
I hope this proves to be useful 🤟.
