Had 3 1TB NVMe laying around from upgrading to 2TB , bought a few of these exact Sabrent enclosures...worked beautifully. Get the firmware from Sabrent, upgrade the enclosures without an SSD installed...just the enclosure alone. Love em !!
As a side note, these handle double sided SSD's great. I had a couple of the slide in variety enclosures...double sided did not fit....this clamshell design Sabrent works great with the double sided SSD's.
you literally just saved me. I picked up by accident a SATA drive thinking it was a regular SSD. so I picked up a Sabrent enclosure but still couldn't quite figure out how to use the drive. I followed your directions and BOOM a 1 TB drive for about 90 bucks US. THANK YOU!!!!!
Great information. It's now 2023 and I got the Sabrent enclosure ($40 AUD) and the Sabrent Rocket Q 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 ($79 AUD) from Amazon Australia.
I have had home made external SSDs of various descriptions for several years and used them as external boot drives via Thunderbolt for my 27" iMac. Having just bought a MacBook Pro 14" M1 I'll be making a fast external M.2 SSD as work storage connected via one of the 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports. Currently I use a 256gb USB C flash drive but want something faster. Its just a matter of waiting till I see the appropriate M.2 drive and case, so your choices were interesting.
I'm gonna make one! I actually just received all my components then I saw you video. What a relief, I bought the right drive. The price and speed are ridiculous.
Great video man! I've been using a SilverStone MS09 enclosure and a Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 500GB for three years now and it's been great especially, because I do a lot of photography and often being on the road, this is a blast to use. Your video made me wonder if I need to do an upgrade. However, you know what they say, if it ain't broken, don't fix it :)
You need to peel off the brown plastic film from the white heat pad. Otherwise the heat from the drive overheat the board chipset and damage it over time.
When you mentioned durability, you didn't at all talk about the enclosure itself. It can fail, it did for me. The company did replace it for me. The heat (which you also didn't mention) the enclosure generates is high and was likely the cause of its failure.
I needed this video. Thanks. I just ordered one of these enclosures and I used your link. You helped me build my first PC a couple years ago with your video with the Ryzen 5 3600 and b450 gaming plus max (the 3600 was sold out so I went with the 2600 but I used the same motherboard). Anyway I needed this enclosure so I can swap out the slower Intel 660p 512GB that came with my HP Pavilion Aero 13 laptop (Ryzen 7 5800u version) and put in the XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB leftover from my first build since it's literally double the speed of the 660p.
Nice video! I bought this same Sabrent enclosure a few weeks ago and it's great. Using it to transfer data from my old NVMe drive from an older system to a new build and it's working very well.
Thanks mate. Best video I have seen today. It's a pity that living here in Australia it is very difficult to get cheap 2T SSD cards and enclosures like you guys can in the UK and US. Cheers
After a long time looking up external SSDs I ended up doing the same thing! Except I went with a samsung 970 evo 2tb, which was actually cheaper than most of the dramless ssds at the time
I have this setup using a similar SSK enclosure, and an OEM 256GB WD SN730 which had 3000+ Read / ~2220 Write in the PC I pulled it out of. Unfortunately all of my other devices max out at USB 3.1 Gen 1, which tops out at 500-600MB/sec. Still slightly faster (and cheaper) than the average SSD based external drive, but most people probably don't realize their speeds will be limited below USB 3.1 Gen 2, and only around 1000MB/sec even with Gen 2.
@@sumdood2035 right, but I'd like to put windows on an external SSD for occasional mini-Internet gaming or something, so i may need one, but i basically know nothing about all this

Absolutely loving your videos. I wish I found your page earlier. A question I have, can I use this SSD with the enclosure to record with a BlackMagic 4K pocket camera?
@@theTechNotice last question I promise, as the prices of old gen 3 are the same right now as Gen 4. With the added advantage of me being able to plug it into a PCI Gen 4 slot and reap all the insane benefits. Thanks and love from India :)
Very, very good video. You explained it well. I purchased a WD 2000 1TB ssd and found the installation instructions very poor. I couldn't find a way of installing it on my laptop but thanks to you I have now. Is there any form of encryption on this ssd? TJ

Ild still stick to Samsung Evo no matter what, have hundrededs deployed and not 1 issue. quality is more important than price and how many read writes. I have never had much luck with WD. but i like there blue ssd's for a option for cheap and god.
Anyone else ha e problems with this enclosure after a few drive swaps? Mine kept showing up as corrupted files or RAW format, it was always a different issue. None of the issues with the same drive in a different enclosure
I was about to buy this SSD on your recommendation, but I'm seeing that WD did a bait and switch, and they changed it to a model that is half the speed. Can you recommend an SSD for that enclosure with comparable specs to the one you reviewed here?
One more thing. I'd looked into WD SSDs a while ago and, from my understanding, the WD Blue NVMes don't have a DRAM cache. That seems to be the case with cheaper SSDs in general (though the Intel 660p does have DRAM but only 100TBW endurance rating). Has that ever been an issue?
The unit byte usually refers to 8 bits but can be more to include parity bits etc. Please read up on Wikipedia before making assumptions on your videos that are out by 8.
Still the option of 2TB or even 4, if you wanna pay a premium for any more than 2TB, is pretty solid. You also need to think about latency and slower speeds if it were possible to have multiple NVMes in one enclosure. I'd assume they would be a factor.
@@sondp You sound confused about computer editing. The hard drive has NOTHING to do with rendering, exporting or playback.
