    I splice my volt cable with electrical tape by using an xacto blade on the ESC lead as close to the ESC as I can get it. No need to solder and it'll always pick up battery voltage telemetry.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      Out of curiosity, why "As close to the ESC as possible"? Convenience???

    • @TwoBrosRC
      @TwoBrosRC 3 года назад

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Keeps it from getting jostled out of place since it's being held to the ESC lead by electrical tape alone! On planes like the Timber, having the volt leads where they'll never get tugged keeps you from losing battery telemetry in-flight because you tugged too hard on the ESC lead when trying to get a battery installed. Same thing on my Maule and Twin Otter - just makes it easier overall to avoid causing electrical telemetry issues.
      Setting up the Volt telemetry to complain if it's below a pre-set voltage will also tell you if something's gone awry before you fly, too!

    I know this was a year ago and I didn't read all the comments. The history of the 4fu was a handful to fly because of the small rudder. The engine was so powerful that the wash from the prop caused massive rudder shake. And almost impossible to dead stick.
    It was also nicknamed "Whistling Death" it would whistle as it was diving.
    I had a 90cc nitro it was not easy to fly lol.
    F4u was always a favorite of mine.

      Because they're in the "dungeon". LOL - lots of snacks, multiple tv's and video games, computers, and tablets...they're good to go for a few days, if they wanted. Also, our mics help to hide some of the background noise...we DO hear them, and pause and holler to quiet down from time to time, but it's pretty rare.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 года назад

      Yes, but you need to separate out the servos, and with NX8, you'll be out of channels if you intend to make EACH surface move separately - I assume you're wanting to do CROW?
      If so, watch this video, and see if you want to go trough the trouble....the Carbon Z Cessna 150T flies AMAZING without CROW - I would NOT set it up...but some have ;)

      @@BrianPhillipsRC I agree! That plane has the need for speed! But it has nice low speed & slow landing characteristics with the flaps deployed. I set my rates to apply 5% down elevator when I drop my flaps, that prevents the sudden nose up when they deploy.

    I have been following this plane on release. FMS has had power problems from the get go. Rich at RC Informer who works close with FMS tried bigger motor, 8s pack and really got it going but added cost and it already at $500. Pretty costly. FMS just recently came out with new prop. It is either an 18-12 or 18-13. Made a big difference with stock motor and 6s pack. Supposedly new prop will be supplied if it didn't come in the box.

      This plane. We have links so you can check what current prices are...
      There in the video description, but I'll list them for you below...
      Plane F4U Corsair 1.7m bit.ly/2HV65xP
      +
      Transmitter NX8 bit.ly/3f4JhZl (you can technically use what I used, NX6 bit.ly/3eqEn7M ..but the 8 is way better value now, it wasn't out yet when we made this video, if I remember right)
      +
      Receiver AR637T bit.ly/3pW3u86 (this could be replaced with a simpler AR631 for less cash - AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c - and still gives you the "important" stuff - AS3X (stabilization) and SAFE (auto-leveling) if you want it.)
      +
      Battery 5Ah 6S 50C bit.ly/35qFQrW OR 100C bit.ly/2ImLLWr (I put two of the more expensive in my estimate)
      +
      Charger G2 S2200 bit.ly/398ohO6 OR S1400 bit.ly/3rKYt3l
      $1,734.94 (+tax) as of 3/19/2022 - But keep in mind, most people buying this plane wouldn't be starting here....they'd only be getting the plane and receiver, since they'd be using the Transmitter, Charger, and Batteries (I put two in my total - who get ONE battery - LOL) for this AND other plane. This is a BIG and expensive, and no doubt AMAZING plane, but definitely NOT a beginner plane.

    Did you have any trouble binding it in into safe select at all

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 года назад

      You don't "Bind" into SAFE anymore. You now use FORWARD PROGRAMMING to turn on AS3X and then later, SAFE. This is probably why you're having difficulty.
      Check out a more recent PNF models on how to setup AS3X and SAFE. It's a new process as compared to what we showed in this video. Most recent I can think of would be the J-65. ruclips.net/video/kNFuhcoooJ8/видео.html - same otherwise as the F4U Corsair, as far as radio setup goes, since they're both same wing types, and tail type, and we don't do anything different for an EDF Jet from a Prop equipped model.
      Good luck - you can get this figured out, but it's going to take a bit of work. Trust me, though, it's worth it!

Now if you're talking lite-ply. balsa and composite models, then you're dealing with a lot higher wing loading, and it takes more skill and experience to fly them properly. Yeah, I get the sentiment, but gotta remember, if we go to war with China, we'll still have SOME trade with them...we are WAY too dependent, but it is what it is... 40 years of the CCP working it's way into the American way of life, and we can definitely see the results of it - oh well, at least they're REALLY good at making RC stuff ;)
      P.S. I try to look at it like this, the Chinese are some of the most oppressed people on the face of the planet, and they're getting more oppressed, second only to a few horrific places like North Korea and other war torn terrorist controlled territories, so I figure we're helping to keep the oppressed fed....but then you're taking food off the plate of an American, or Canadian, or Mexican, when we choose to do business with China for so much....but how does business get around the huge labor disparity??? They don't ;( Tough issue, and way higher than my pay scale....but I do love RC and hope for a productive and FAIR resolution to the "trade" wars with China - they cheat like crazy, and lie too...so you gotta be ON YOUR TOES if you do serious business with them. HOWEVER, I have some experience with doing direct MFG business with an Indian company, for some farm equipment we needed, and they are some of the hardest working, super ethical people on the planet - it's no wonder they are getting traction for so many machine mfg needs. American need to keep the world market in mind when considering these complex markets...seems too often, people just think "They took our jobs", well, you gave them your job!!?!??!?! (me too).
      Well, that was more heavy than typical in my RUclips channel replies ;) Thanks for stopping by again ASteamEngineer.

    I am a huge Corsair fan but the largest scale I have and fly is the old Durafly 1100 with 3S 2200. I hear the larger the scale the easier it is to fly? All of my Corsairs require a lot of nose weight to fly properly. The other issues I have is motor torque on take off. The 1700 doesn't look like it has that problem at all.
    Your flying field requires you to come in and land just like they do on carrier landings always in the turn viewing the deck. Due to the wing, the Corsair has a death spiral stall in turns at slow speeds! The real Corsair during carrier test landings they added a small STALL STRIP to the starboard side leading edge. It's not much material but on these small scale planes I wonder if it will help if added?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      It has a HUGE amount of P-factor (Prop is crazy heavy!!!), but the AS3X and practice hide it nicely ;) As for the 1.2m Corsair I mentioned here...if you haven't flown it, it is EXCELLENT! Might need to be your NEXT plane ;) Just saying...
      As for the bigger the easier... I've heard but not been able to totally confirm this over my years of experience. I think SOME big planes behave nicely, and others just make me more nervous - LOL!

    5 years worth of Brian Phillips tells me-
    If he has an underpowered prop driven plane (see: P-51 Blondie on 4s???) there’s gonna be some modifications. This could be a bigger ESC, a more efficient prop, or if he has one laying around in the basement, a bigger motor.
    In either events, stay tuned, it’ll be a much faster plane and he’ll probably come up with something I never thought of that incredibly hardcore.

    I built the Top Flight Corsair and ran it on 6S with a AXI 4130-16 Motor. in 2008 It used the Robart air retracts and the CG is where you need to adjust for things too as your in-flight configuration is wheels up. Going to landing configuration, you will end up nose heavy but you can mix in a little elevator adjustment with first notch of flaps to get it balanced. Go Full landing flaps and it should lock in on a nice, feeling high approach, that you can bring in steep and make a nice flare. Of course, that was a 9 lb airplane.....

      @@BrianPhillipsRC I was an AT in the service, but flew RC planes for fun. "Crazy story" I brought my 60 ZERO with a .90 4 stroke to a command picnic on base along the beach and knew to stay low to avoid (the very near by ships) radar, but about 100 seagulls started attacking the plane. LOL it became a real aerial dog fight within min's , so in order to lose them to land I planned to go for the sky real quick then come down and land. But once the plane went over a few 100 ft or so I think the ships radar got it because I lost total control of the plane. It went full throttle straight up for a few more hundred feet finally stalled and pointed straight down "full throttle!" The plane was screaming on its way down and I knew once the plane was low enough I would gain control again, but it was going too fast. It leveled out with the curb in the parking lot and broke into a million pieces. Luckily I missed ALL the cars, UPS driver making a delivery dove back into his truck and other people who dove out of the way. After my walk of shame picking up the pieces and apologizing to everyone base security drove up on me and asked if that plane was mine I said yes, then they said well there is a WW2 vet who was in the Perl harbor attacks hiding it the near by baseball diamond dugout. Once it started the dive back down apparently he thought we were under attack again from Japan and he dove into the dugout. I didn't fly much after that and 20 years later I still feel very bad for the WW2 vet. At the time I didn't know about PTSD, but I know I triggered it with him.

      @@BrianPhillipsRC That’s crazy you mentioned that! I actually just bought an NX6 with a 1.2 e-flight P-47 with safe fly Razorback to graduate to eventually and tinker with in the mean time. I am new to the hobby. Thanks so much for the input. Do you have any recommendations on the setup so far per the manual recommended settings are inputted. I actually like the size of the 1.2. Definitely looking forward to the smaller 800mm to fly as much as possible. For $150 rtf what an amazing deal for a starter plane! I will continue to fly that until feel comfortable to bring out the Razorback.

    Did you have to calibrate the esc, because that plane, or at least you would think, should be a ton more faster. Great vids Brian

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад

      Yeah, it's slow, but flies well. I was very disappointed about that, but it's correctable, and FMS sent out new props to everyone who got this V3 plane...I got the new prop, BTW but we haven't filmed the remaiden after swapping out the prop. Only issue is that it looks EXACTLY the same as the provided 18X11 prop that was on it...so I'm suspect of the prop NOT being different at all. We'll have to wait and see. I'm not sure what to think on this one. We had burms of snow on either side of the driveway when we got the prop installed, but then it's be CRAZY windy ever since...so we will film as soon as we get an opportunity.
      Calibrating the ESC is not going to make this plane faster or slower. RCInformer has been doing that because he swapped out the ESC and Motor and Battery (Cell counts) but I didn't do any of that, so won't typically make a difference, unless there's something wrong with the system. I typically only think about calibrating an ESC if the prop spins at startup, or if I have twin engines I want to sink up.
      Thanks for checking in Brad ;)

    Brian, did you say you can add safe to the 1.2 corsair?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 года назад +1

      Well, you can technically ADD SAFE to any plane you want to (Well within this approximate size class), but the 1.2m is AS3X only at the moment. It's still running an AR636A (I think)....but you can buy an AR637T and for sure swap out the Rx. It would be an easy change, but pretty expensive. If you buy it as a PNF, you can save a few bucks and go that route, but I'd say, just get the BNF and fly with AS3X only...but that's just my two cents ;)

      For sure! We have the Draco now, BUT we literally aren't allowed to review yet. It's not our choice, and we weren't thrilled about it... This is one of the largest releases in years, and we have to wait a few more than a few weeks, and it's killing us! We WILL ABSOLUTELY BE REVIEWING IT AS SOON AS WE'RE ALLOWED!
