You're missing a key factor here. Greg once mentioned Rose felt she needed to confess everything to him, so there was actually a point where she might've loved him enough to reveal everything and get him to understand, she might've felt guilty enough for essentially lying and keeping secrets, but Greg gave her a free pass, saying something along the lines of, "whoever she was in the past is in the past" (paraphrasing). He loved Rose, but probably deep down it was Pink who felt accepted and loved unconditionally, because Greg chose not to hear all her secrets. Greg had the oppurtunity to discover so much but declined it.
Greg *did* open her eyes to how complex humans are. She held a distant love for them, but never seemed to understand that people have the same feelings Gems have.
I think a good think to keep in mind is, in the flashback episodes with Greg and Rose, Greg is in his early 20s/college level. And now you can assume he's double the age. Maybe since they spent at least a decade together, and he was so caring and willing to teach Rose all about his race, maybe their love became genuine towards the end.
Pink clearly did intentionally save humanity back then, even with cost of huge losses.. Greg couldn't be even alive five thousands years ago. So how the f*k this make any sense?
TheRezro Rose/Pink had a sort of admiration towards humans. She loved their way of life, but in a distant way; she never really experienced what it's like to be truly human until Greg brought her to reality.
I think she originally didn't love him, she just liked the experience, but when he spoke to her as if they were equals, it was something she always wanted, though maybe she didn't realize it. The other diamonds always spoke down to her despite also trying to reinforce that she is a diamond (her bratty nature really should have been explored more. We know gems are created knowing their purpose, so perhaps the fact that they were not willing to let her fulfill her purpose is why she had that kind of personality). Pearl sure never saw her as an equal, in fact, none of the Crystal Gems do. They saw her as a leader, above them despite what they preached. Nobody was ever on the same playing field as Pink. And here comes Greg who truly believes all people are inherently equal with different strengths and weaknesses. It's why he felt so uncomfortable when Pearl tells him that he is inferior to them, it's just something he doesn't believe. Pink could have been done with Greg at that moment, but instead, she opens up. She doesn't tell him everything, probably because she just wants to forget about who she used to be, but she does tell him that she has done unforgivable things, that she isn't a good person. Greg just accepts that she has flaws like anybody else. I think that is the key here. I think that this is the moment she truly falls in love with him. This is the moment she truly embraces humanity and the Earth as her home and where she belongs instead of a toy for her to play with. So, yeah. I think she did love him in the end. Plus, as far as we are aware, PD probably truly believed Homeworld wasn't coming back. Everyone seems to think she willingly decided to have her kid fight her battles with Homeworld, but think about how many THOUSANDS of years it took for Peridot to finally show up. She might have thought the other diamonds just wanted nothing more to do with Earth. She probably wanted the real human experience.
BoundbyCronus I agree with this. But even if she thought Homeworld was gone, she still left a lot of her responsibilities to Steven, like the corrupted gems and Bismuth. Perhaps she thought Steven was the key to heal corrupted gems, but she still left Bismuth - a violent gem that hated Rose Quartz - for Steven to easily find. She still left her responsibilities to her friends and son without telling them what to do or confessing the truth. She still took the cowardly way out.
Maja Oh, definitely. It seemed like she didn't consider long term consequences of her actions, but that doesn't necessarily make her evil. Lots of people live in the here and now with no thought of tomorrow.
Maja Great, Pink Diamond just wanted to be different and I believe that When White diamond is introduced we will see her as a cold and calculating gem but then see how she has been affected by Pink Diamonds death just like the other two, so she ventured off and continued her expansion. Constantly blaming herself for allowing Pink to have a colony.
I agree as well, everyone is so damn bullheaded and wanting to think PD was only a selfish brat and parroting tumblr logic, in the fact of "People cannot change and never change! People CANNOT Change their minds and grow! Their destined to be bad people forever if the fuck up even once!!!!!"....Even Slice is doing it, which has me dissapointed.
+AtlantaHammy Awestruck Vox has been doing that too, for a really long time. Even before the reveal, so many people have hated Rose because she was a hypocrite apparently. But they were in the middle of a war! You do what you have to so you can survive. Plus, we've seen that gems CAN change, so it's incredibly backwards and closed minded when people want characters to be redeemed, with the exception of characters they don't like. We are just scratching the surface as far as what Pink was going through, so it is very possible that she did change and wanted to atone for her actions.
Greg also changed his name from DeMayo to Universe. He wasn't in the Gem War or lost friends to it, so Rose being Pink Diamond 5000-plus years ago probably means even less to him than his old family name.
I genuinely believe that rose quartz loved Greg. Her light cannon is activated by a phrase Greg says often. "If every porkchop was perfect we would not have hotdogs" Which to me is the equivalent of having your netflex or account password named after your girlfriend. Or how rose quartz kept the shirt that Greg gave to him the day that they met. Rose' love is not so blatantly obvious, it bubbles below the surface. She has proven it to me time and time again that she does have feelings for him. I don't think she saw him as just a pawn, I can't believe that.
I believe there has been humans she has been with before Greg. Pearl has mentioned several times in different episodes where she was okay with the occasional man coming into her life because they never stay but never thought she'd lose to Greg. Or watching them dance scared that he is becoming her favorite, holding a bigger place in her heart than pearl does. Plus the flashback where you see pearl dancing with humans. All of that proves that Greg is not her first but he was her last. Though you do make an excellent point there, I can easily picture Rose talking to Greg about feeling flawed or imperfect and to which he replies just that . I don't believe rose returns all the love that Greg does, but she still does love him and not just the idea of him.
Shane Lawrence ty lmao ppl are crazy . I try pulling my theory’s out but no one ever really tells me what the think lol maybe because I don’t wear “rose” colored glasses lmao 😂
Here’s a terrible thought - what if Pearl stopped herself from pulling Rose’s Gem out of Baby Steven because of the Silence Order? I used to think Baby Steven’s laughter as Pearl reached for his Gem made her realize that she might kill him, and she knew Rose would be devastated to find out her oldest friend murdered her baby. But you brought up a good point - if Pearl had ripped out Steven’s Gem, everyone would’ve seen the hidden facets and realized Rose was really Pink Diamond. Pink’s order of silence might’ve kicked in to prevent Pearl from exposing her, which means when Pearl said “I can’t”, it wasn’t with the horror of realizing she almost killed a baby. It was with the horror of realizing she literally couldn’t do it.
In my opinion she may have been reckless but I think rose really did mature. In a pale rose she seemed way more mature than when she made her first appearance. She wasn't bratty and she wasn't a kid. I think that her intentions was still there. She saved the earth from being hollowed out, she inspired gems to live for their own instead of serving her and her fellow diamomds. When she fell in love with Greg she for the first time felt actual love for him. Don't forget before that she tried to turn him down because she REALIZED HERSLEF she was ruining peoples lives hanging out with guys and then out living them. She wanted to have a baby because this was her first time feeling this deep of love. She made that home video for Steven telling him and making sure that he knows she loves him, her child she won't be able to meet. Anyway I love your videos. Thanks to anyone who bothered reading this whole thing. This is my defense for ro- oh excuse me pink diamond
That's why it's my favorite song from the series. Musically it's outstanding and, in combination with "We Need to Talk", it gives Rose a pretty satisfying arc.
When Pink Diamond told Garnet about her Gemsona's origin story I think she was projecting her resentment towards her fellow Diamonds onto herself if that makes any sense. :P
Isabel Brokaw when you realise Flourite was right when she said Rose Quartz wasn't real not to mention Garnet said Rose pleaded with Pink Diamond. Could have been Pinks way of saying the conversation of the so called rebellion on earth with blue before she made it happen.
Yeeeeeesssss. I think that's it! The longer you think about this, the more things click. I recommend restarting the series and paying attention in that new light.
@The Irish Elite For the note we do know that Pink try abandon Earth. I think that Diamonds miss her point back then and Blue blame herself for what happen as she push on her to stay.
To be honest, given the video she left for steven and how she sounded in it, i do think greg really did change something in her, and although she was never really able to experience the "human" way of life, i do think it turned from surface admiration of humans into genuine appreciation for them.
Of course she loves Greg. Pearl knew that pink/rose loved Greg. She wouldn't have been threatened by Greg and his existence if she didn't know intrinsically that this was a very very important person to Pink/rose. even more so than herself. Plus we had that whole thing with Greg and Rose talking about how she only thought of him as a fun time and he's like no you love me or you don't, don't play with me. I mean heck her mr. Universe t-shirt is hung up in her special place. It was one of the very first things you see. Out of all of the things we know about pink/Rose, her relationship to Greg is the one thing that is shown to be the truth.
I don't doubt her love for Greg but she obviously had an ulterior motive for being with Greg and ultimately having Steven and losing her physical form forever. She has a bad habit of making rash decisions that end up hurting everyone around her.
Like what? Because everyone bitch that she is evil, but no one really try prove that? Cause it is clearly a salty presumption ignoring transparent facts! She did that specifically to save humanity. CG didn't profit from unfinished colony. Humans did! Pink clearly did try save humanity, from zoo through excuses and sabotage, and finally until Blue stated that it wold be finished just because she is there.. she also remove herself from equation. Pink wasn't childish, she was patronized! Pink wasn't evil, she was forced into that! This show is totally transparent about that.. but as people childishly refuse to acknowledge numerous clues for the "twist" now they also do that with Pink motive. Seriously.. and I though that people complaining about Twilight becoming a princes are the worst crybabies 0_0
That's why I see Steven's birth as way for PD to make amends for all the pain her foolish decision caused everyone. The problem with PD was that, yes she forced into that situation but she wanted it. She grew a liking to humans and the Earth and made excuses and the diamonds thought she was incompetent leader so tried to take the Earth from her. I can understand her anger towards that but she should have showen to the other diamonds that she could still colonize and preserve life, like Peridot suggested to YD. If she had been the one to show a new way in doing things it would have been different, then I could agree with starting a rebellion. If PD herself fought for what she wanted (maybe with her RQ line and other off colored gems) and proved to everyone that you can still be a good diamond leader without the destruction of a planet, I would have supported her. Instead she used the rebellion to run away from her problems -> her duties as a diamond. You can't live a of happiness without owning up to your mistakes. You can't really be happy if everyone around you is being told a lie. No one knew the real PD (except Pearl) which is pretty sad.
@Sissy Jack Yes, but it was all what she have at that point. Blue was straight about it, Earth colony would be finished just because she is there. All her attempts failed because her sisters did control everything from back seat. She try persuasion, she try sabotage, she even start the rebellion. Greg on end of first season say Steven that his mother felt guilt that they invaded and would destroy the earth. He was even clear that she was on the other side but she felt that she need to do something with that.
Sorry for writing so much but just want you to know that I have nothing against the reveal but it was made for you to start questioning everything PD as RQ has done. It makes you wonder if everything was worth it? And from past episodes of RQ I can see she's regretting her choices. Her actions did save the Earth and that's a good thing but that wasn't her end game she wanted something more (to be more human-like maybe or to gain the approval of the other diamonds?) but she never got what she wanted in all of this. I'm starting to feel for my poor Pearl more than anything right now 😭
I really don't like all the Pink Diamond hate. I understand that she was not some sort of goddess. But the way they set Rose up to be this beautiful, pure, gold hearted, and magical gem, was really important. They stripped her of most of those titles. The crewniverse didn't say "oh she was secretly evil the whole time", they showed us that Pink was as flawed as everyone else. And I know that some things Pink Diamond did weren't all that great. But she had good intentions. She thought that what she was doing was a good deed. Honestly, Blue is partly to blame. In the flashback in "Can't Go Back", Pink is clearly trying to plead with Blue to end the colonization of earth, because she genuinely loved and cared for every living thing. Blue brushed it off as she assumed Pink was just worried about the small rebellion. So Pink decided to fake her own death in an attempt to stop the colonization. Unfortunately it backfired. But still, she wanted to save the life on earth. I believe she genuinely started to love Greg after the scene in "We Need to Talk". After Greg said that he wasn't sure if she really loved him, Rose's eyes widened, and she said "but I thought... I though that was what it was." After that scene, their relationship rely deepened. Some people say that she was only curious about life, and that she never exactly valued it. But when we look at the tape she made for Steven, she speaks directly to the camera and speaks in a vague way, never really saying she was completely talking about Steven. Her whole speech to the camera (the audience) was about how she loved them for who they were, and that being alive is an amazing experience. And c'mon guys, are you telling me that Pink is still a whiney little brat like the one we saw in Jungle Moon? Obviously not. She begged for a colony. She got one. Then she begged to stop the colony, because of how she saw all the beautiful life on the planet. Guys, I'm not saying that Pink was a flawless perfect gem, but you need to stop calling her a selfish tyrant.
Bubble Gum I don't _hate_ Pink Diamond, however I will offer a rebuttal for people, like me, who do not like this reveal. Firstly, no it's not because our theory wasn't shown - personally, up to now, the only thing people could point to Rose = Pink was that she was pink and had her gem in the same place. Amethyst and Blue Diamond have their gems on their chest, doesn't mean Amethyst is now Blue Diamond. The problem I have with this - aside from the fact that fans who liked this reveal refuse to understand or even SEE why this is troubling - are many. First and foremost, I personally have never thought Rose Quartz to be this pillar of good, salt of the Earth figure. I used to say that, out of all the CGs, she was the most human because she exhibited many humans foibles - unintentionally hurting people's feelings (Pearl, Greg), pushing off responsibility on someone else (Garnet) - RQ had flaws and one of them was poor communication skills. Second, Pink and the Diamonds ARE tyrants - they are conquerors in the same vein of Ghagis Khan, Kubla Kai, vikings, etc. They have, prior to Earth, gone to a multitude of planets and, most likely, eradicated the inhabitants in order to propagate their species. Not to mention, they are a dictatorship regime consisting on gems that live and die by their word. Failure is not tolerated - only the strong survive, as the saying goes. Whether you like it or not, Pearls are essentially slaves; rubies are canon fodder; most of the military gems (like Jasper) have a die for the empire mentality; and the species as a whole believe themselves to be superior to any and all species. Pink is essentially the little kid who pleads for a pet, gets one, and then once they realize that taking care of a pet means actual work, suddenly decide they don't want it anymore. Blue and Yellow literally started taking care of the pet, with Blue even restating "you wanted this, so you have to take of it. That's what responsibility is." and Pink turned around and pretty much A. let it run away (rebellion) before B. deciding to kill it (war) cause then Blue and Yellow would leave her alone about it. The definition of selfish is thus - "a person, action, or motive lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure." That is _exactly_ what Pink did. She threw a tantrum over wanting a colony, she got it and couldn't handle the responsibility, so she started a rebellion as Rose Quartz, who then started a war. Earth was HER colony and she had every opportunity to declare it as such or save it as such; to say she could only do that as Rose Quartz is not putting blame where it belongs and not holding her accountable for her actions. This wasn't about protecting earth and it's people (again, she had a lot more power as a Diamond than some gem fugitive), this was about not liking responsibility and getting out of that responsibility. That's selfish.
R. Edwards sorry for the lateness in the reply. Again, I never said Pink was bad as a character; in fact, one reason why I don't like this storyline is that the opportunity for an actual villain, an actual conflict, and an actual look at war have now been erased and, judging by these leaks, the show is pretty much gonna end on a 'and they all lived happily ever after' which I think is just a part of why generations of kids have screwed up views on life in general. As for Pearl, a kind master is still a master. Which again, is another troubling fact because instead of Pearl being this renegade, who bucked against the 'chains of slavery', if you will, to be her own person, who fought to be free, it turns out - no. she was just following her original owner. And technically, she's kinda following a new one. And that's disturbing. Yes, she's made some of her own decisions and still does (and certainly Steven would never treat her like a pearl), but the implications are disheartening for a show that does a lot to break molds. Basically, where we all thought Pearl was Jamie Fox's character in Django Unchained, she ends up being in the Samuel L. Jackson role (the role, cause SLJ is a BMF else wise). You're missing the point of the pet analogy. If she loved her pet - Earth - so much, then she should've done what Rose did, without having a disguise. As I've noted elsewhere, that's the equivalent of Batman walking into a board meeting because Bruce Wayne is too scared to. The difference being any war Batman creates is financial and would ruin people's lives, but there wouldn't be millions of corpses in his wake. And I did mention the scene in CGB - that's where the pet analogy comes from. And we know the Diamonds saw 'Rose Quartz' as a nuisance; before this, one of the things I speculated about why PD was shattered was incompetence. She was letting a known fugitive just run around on her planet, gathering up followers for hundreds of years without doing anything. The fact that it turns out she was playing both sides is just...it's being the lead double agent and in many cases, double agents never last long. And as I asked in another comment - why is it perfectly okay for 'Rose Quartz' to stand up to earth and not Pink Diamond? Everything she did as Rose could've easily been done as Pink AND she at least would've had her court and other gems behind her instead of actively trying to capture her. And Rose Quartz WAS the leader of the Crystal Gems, just like Garnet currently is, so there is a leadership hierarchy in the group, even if they don't press it. Pink could've easily been, "Look, I want you guys to be happy, enjoy yourselves. I wanna be a hands on, responsive boss, aight?" There are many companies where the CEO is approachable and doesn't act like a 'leader' hiding in the back room. And you're missing the point of HOW this was selfish - would a rebellion and a war still have broken out on the planet if Pink had been, 'Look, this is my planet, I'm doing it my way.' Maybe, maybe not. It could've easily meant she'd never get another colony and the Diamonds would've erased her like they're done already; a conflict still could've started, but there would've been a lot less lives lost. And before you say 'well, there was the cluster and the experiments' - there would have been NONE of that if not for her deception. Losing a colony wasn't that big of a deal - it was the thought of Pink's loss and that Rose had done it that fueled the war. Why else would Yellow be so determined to just blow it up? Pink's actions are very clear and you can excuse them as her being childlike and not knowing what she was doing, etc, but you know what? At the end of the day, we ALL have to be held accountable for our actions. If I broke a window when I was a kid, I was paying for it or I was paying my mom back for it, there was no 'well, she's just a child' because at some point, I should've known better. And young as she may be, the Diamonds have control over hundreds, maybe thousands of worlds, and while Yellow or White may not have been keen on showing her the ropes, you're sure as shit Blue did, so her not understanding how this process works does not fly with me. Again with the pet analogy - you asked for it, you wanted it, you got it, now you have to take care of it. And if you can't do that, then we're taking it back. And instead of Pink showing she could run a colony (abet her way), she took the easy way out by causing so much chaos and destruction to the point the other Diamonds said, 'fuck it. we're destroying this place.'
I think she loved him as much as she could, though, her past experiencies, the way she grew up, all those things might make her impossible to experience the same kind of love Greg displayed. Thus, her wishes for Steven to experience everything as a human.
Yoseqlo Yoseloq She didnt grow up tho..and she didnt have any real truama in her life either..she was "born" into royalty, pampered and didnt have to actually work..she was adored by and looked after by the other diamonds(yellow loved her but was perhaps more stern and less emotional to her) she wasnt looked down on by the other diamonds because of her stature..she was looked down on because she was imature and wasnt ready for a colony..she may have felt resentment but its no different from a child being upset that their older sibling can stay up later or have more computer time without realizing it is because they themselves arent ready for the extra responsibility that more privlages entails. Even as rose she was adored by the crystal gems and they were all faithful to her..so why wouldnt she be able to love? Gems have been shown to be capable of both familial and romatic love both extreemly strong in some characters. And yet Rose seems to be the only character incapable of geuine love and or empathy. Either she really didnt care about the fall out of her actions, or she didnt have the foresight to know the most likley result(especially im regaurds to steven). All her actions seem like a child jist doing what she wants without adult guidance and without caring about what happens as a result.
(Wall of text as usual, so here's a warning. Love you all!) Pink was(is?) so INCREDIBLY short sighted, and has never forgiven herself for all she has done. I think she was a very young gem in the "I. WANT. COLONY." stage, Yellow and Blue were totally new at parenting and White let them live with the consequences when she found out. Only stepping in when the shattering was staged to reassert the dominance of the Diamonds. Its funny, I think you hit the nail on the head here with all of this. Ive seen a lot of people on the subreddit push that Greg knew everything. That just leaves the question of how in the ever-living heck did he accept that his wife isnt his wife, but will always be how he met her and yet is living a lie that hes now a part of by knowing? Not to mention she is the reason for there ever being a was. Not just as a rebel but orchestrating an even LARGER lie out of her Crystal Gem persona. Its a big stretch to me. Instead I'm more convinced that Pink has never forgiven herself for what she's done even when she tried to love herself the way Greg and probably also Pearl does. "Love Like You" has many interpretations, but the most straightforward one for me is that Pink understood how ingrained her selfishness and 'superiority' was. She understood the concept of love, but couldn't truly become an open, vulnerable person to feel it. She loves Greg as the most equal she could ever consider her Pearl to be an equal. At least we know Greg made his stand to be respected, and could be his own person. Thats why she was so enamored with him to start. Before he sought her out and stood up for himself, she was just doing her Rose Quartz thing and trying desperately not to hurt anyone emotionally anymore. She somehow made an organic creature from just a sperm cell inside a non-organic body. Then turned herself off and voila she has been "reborn" as Steven. Now she can do a trial run of life as a Human. She's STILL being selfish, but the essence here is she has a new perspective. To an extent EVERYTHING is selfish, including helping others. You probably wouldn't give away money or stuff purely out of that person needing help, and certainly you won't help everyone. That's harming yourself and the livelihood of those who depend on you. The message I wanr to end on, and the most important one: Try to forgive those who have done terrible things if they can recognize their faults and fight to change them. Find support to help you forgive yourself and forge a positive environment for yourself and others. Give love to your fellow person, no matter what species!
I think this is well thought out, except I think she doesn't really experience what Steven experiences. I'm pretty sure they described it was wiping a hard drive. The data in the gem that was "rose" "pink" should be gone and in its place steven. And as for the memories, they could be just that memories with no person attached. Just like with humans and other animals, memory can be encoded into dna. They think this has to do with why we get Deja vu when we go somewhere we personally have never been before. So I think if anything it was her way of escaping and creating something real, something special, and maybe as she saw it a small bit of redemption and maybe a way to become a better person. Or you know she was shit at planning things long term. Still don't hate the character(s) she is/was.
PopInk totally love this, because among other things that magic makes easier, Pink gets a true reincarnation this way. I've always preferred the idea that Pink/Rose was speaking from a position where she had no clue what really would happen. In her video for Steven, she said only positive loving things, maybe to give herself some comfort in the idea that it's ending her life as she knows it. She cant speak to herself in the future directly, but she can this way. Also keeps the idea of "is Steven immortal?" In the air, as well as what happens when someone/all his Humans he loves die. Does he give them eternal undeath like Lion and Lars? Does he do it to someone against their will? So much potential.
From the way I see it, I don't see pink Dimond as selfish as you do. When we first see pink Dimond and yellow diamond fight it's clear that pink Dimond has little to no experience at all with anything. She's been kept in a bubble away from everyone and never give them the chance to try on her own. I think when she was finally given Earth, and went there an encounter the humans and talk with them and lived with them and saw that they can be anyone they want to be. She got jealous. Which is understandable. She is a daimond and expected to act as such. As a daimond she knew it was her responsibility to destroy the Earth, the only home of the humans. I think that's why she made the human Zoo so after Earth was gone there was still a few. But then I think something changed. She realize she wanted to be free as well. I feel like she may have disguised herself as rose quartz originally just to be able to walk around on Earth without being spotted. Then when she decided she didn't want to destroy Earth she used this form to start the Rebellion. She didn't believe pink or yellow would understand or listen. And from what we have been shown they didn't. So the plan was made to free herself as a daimond, pearl, and any other gem who didn't fit in or different. Others just like her. She didn't believe they would follow pink diamond. She wanted them to follow her not because of what she was but who she was.
very good! at least some people actually see a character thoroughly and not out right demonizing them. the crystal gems *chose* to follow rose quarts, she didn't command them.
I still don't think that Pink was as horrible as everyone thought she was. Like Rebecca Sugar said, there's no real villain in this story, just some huge misunderstandings and bad circumstance. think about the nature of a gem. Pink was not only born a diamond but born with a childish nature. these are things that she couldn't have overcome because they are programmed into her. In storytelling, there's a thing called a "foil", or a character that is meant to contrast with another in order to expose the two's characteristics. Pink's foil at the time that she took earth on as her colony would have been the Earth itself. The Earth probably brought her attention to a lot of what was wrong with her character, because you can't deny that the scene from "jungle moon" and the scene from "A single pale rose" give us vastly different views on how she carries herself. this difference, along with her apparent care for what was on earth reveals that she was making an effort to change. She was after all fighting for the freedom of the colony and her gems for thousands of years, and someone selfish without any convictions like everyone's making her out to be would never stick to that kind of commitment. She knew that leaving Earth with the crystal gems would be the best option, and while the execution of that decision was pretty bad, the choice was a good one. The point is that she knew how bad she was, and as a gem she couldn't change. she could try to make mature decisions, but would ultimately fail every time because of her nature. Think about how she handled the explorer or her comments on how humans could change and she envied that, the sad look on her face as she talked about it, or her tape recording left for steven. She wasn't heartless, she wasn't a villain. She was trying to change without any outside help, and literally everything was stacked against her. She doesn't claim to be a good person. She's on multiple occasions said that. And Greg knew she wasn't. She told Greg she wasn't. She even said it in "Love Like You"
*when a gross half bald man that lives in his van somehow makes love and inseminates an immortal pink diamond goddess from space capable of controlling and colonizing planets yet somehow you are sitting here watching alone in your room still single*
I be live that Pink really matured when she met Greg. She spent along time with him (long by human standards), so I don't think Greg was just a tool for her.
I feel like we’re making a lot of assumptions about Rose/PDs motivations from faking her death onwards. We really don’t know whether she did it to fight for her rebellion (not understanding the reaction the other diamonds would have) or because she was running from her problems. Keep in mind, things changed quite a bit for PD between Jungle Moon and faking her death. She clearly grew up at some point in between.
zalbortrox zalbortox Yeah, the way she says “Blue and Yellow don’t care” + how flippantly she decides to fake her death without saying goodbye says to me that she didn’t think the other diamonds cared enough to be genuinely hurt by her death. And since she didn’t realize how that would hurt them, she didn’t think they would bother with something like the corruption song.
1:27 "The very same child" And I'm the very same child who, at four years old, threw a stuffed animal onto my mother's oven, laughing as it burst into flames and possibly caught my house on fire. People grow and change -- even the Gems. After all, Pink didn't throw a tantrum when Blue was reprimanding her over the rebellion, like she did with Yellow. Pearl isn't as salty towards Greg anymore, Amethyst has a better self-esteem, the Gems are (well, before the PD/RQ debacle) closer as a team than they were right after Rose's departure. Rose still has flaws -- insensitivity, misunderstanding and being impulsive. And yes, she did leave her last living soldiers behind with emotional trauma and corrupted gems to deal with. I think this was all intentional because at first, we see her as this saint, before being shown that she was anything but.
Bruh. Pink didn't change. She looked like she did, but she's still the bratty little shithead we all know and love to hate, just in a milder form. She claimed she wanted to change, but she barely did any of that because she refused to accept that she did terrible things in her life. You can't always let go of the past. That's why we have the Holocaust and 9/11.
I think that steven and to some extent greg were the only things she ever did llove truly! maybe she only REALLY loved greg near the end but regardless, i think that if there was one thing that was genuine, one emotion, one love that was ever real it was towards steven and maybe greg
I think some of Greg's goodness passed over to PD for sure, I think it was genuine love but she still felt unfulfilled. Thus the reason for wanting to have Steven, to help bridge the gap between humans and gems. Honestly, Greg is one of the most upstanding characters in all of SU, so he had to see something in her that others - even Pearl, didn't or couldn't.
"She wanted to bridge the gap between humans and gems, and that's why Steven was made." THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR A LONG TIME! I truly believe that Greg will NOT feel heartbroken when he finds out Rose's identity. In fact I believe it would make him feel much better about a Revolution for gem-kind.
ICraftTheArt Any time in the last two days of expectancy. Babies commonly are born from a few days, to even weeks both before, or after the expected due date. So I would say 48 hours until expected delivery is *MEGA* *PREGNANT!*
I don't know if I want Greg to find out about all this. But I don't think it would be enough to make him not love her. Now I know Pink Diamond made mistakes, a lot of really, really big mistakes, but we have not seen enough of her yet to understand her entirely. I don't really want to mark her as a bad person until the show portrays her as such. Right now, I think she's basically a mixed bag. Like everyone else. She probably had way too much on her hands both as a diamond and especially as Rose Quartz.
zalbortrox zalbortox zalbortrox zalbortox Oh, well a lot of people are thinking she's a bad person because of her decision to fake her death, turning against gem kind, causing the war, and basically all of the negative effects associated with the gem war. She also never told any of the other gems or Greg, presumably, about her secret identity, and so essentially they would be misled about her diamond origins.
She didn't cause the Gem war though. The Gem war was already going on before this. Her 'death' amplified it but it was already going on. She tried to make excuses to avoid faking her death. The other diamonds didn't listen. She didn't want to suck earth dry and destroy the life on it. But the series made it clear the other diamonds don't care about those things. Without her we wouldn't even have this lovely show to watch :^). PD had very little choice. She could have stayed the way she was and the Earth would be ruined for the sake of colonization. Or, fake her death, amplify the gem war. Either way SOMEONE was going to be hurt. If she blabbered off to other gems that she was PD it could have negative results. Someone could go back to the other diamonds and tell them and that could cause even more issues. What you don't know can't hurt you-- y'know?
ZodiacAce Well, the words against the diamond have their weight, but I don't know enough about her to confidently take a stand on either side of the argument. However, and I'm sure you'll agree with this, she did technically save the whole Earth. The question is more of where her morals lie and what all of her intentions were. I think that much of the fandom is split and shaken about this and we need more time and information to settle this.
Chase Langlands Before, pretty much confirmed. Pearl told Bismuth that she was bubbled for 5,300 years, about 300 before the Diamond attack, and Bismuth never got the chance to know anything about Pink's 'Shattering'.
@The Green Dragon 53 And she would guess that Ross sword can't shatter if it would be after. And it couldn't do that specifically because "evil" Pink as Ross ordered her long ago to make her non lethal weapon. Even if as we known "innocent" serial killer Bismuth was obsessed over gem shattering devices.
I imagine ethical issues were also part of it. Rose probably locked away Bismuth for several reasons. One of them being that she was not looking to shatter anyone.
One thing i learned as a kid is when you leave highschool and your family that you spent the last 18 years with you are still pretty immature, sometimes bratty depending how you were raised. But that could be this! We don't know how the diamonds treated Pink exactly. They could have been those that no matter how hard pink tried, they still treated her as a child. Maybe through being on earth, she was like "Wow! we can be equals! We don't have to let our gem define us!" But the diamonds were stuck in their old ways. Much like any country, sometimes a revolution must come underway. But also, this could be like how a child must leave her home to grow up and mature, she wanted to. But there are parents that are so controling of their children and their lives that it may seem down right abusive. Sure the blue and yellow mourn for her, but it may also be regret on how they treated her too. She also could be she wanted to coverse with the other gems, be their friend and such, but she was a diamond and they would treat her differently. So the Sona Rose formed. With that she could be her true self, and be who she wanted to be without the title on her head. And that could be why she never told garnet or the other gems, because she feared they would treat her differently than who she wanted to be, like everyone else.
I am going to write my own synopsis on what I think Pink Diamond's story is. This is going to be stupid-long, so I understand if people find it a tl;dr thing, but I greatly appreciate anyone who takes the time to read it and gives me their input. So here goes... I don't think anybody in the universe was more aware of what a screw-up Pink was more than Pink. Physically, mentally, and karmically, she's an off-color diamond. Comically short, pitifully powered, and childish of mind, she's a silly looking little dork of a diamond, and a massive disappointment to her mommies Blue and Yellow, and Gramma White. She is keenly aware of this. In the beginning, she may well have not known she even had any powers since her powers are geared towards helping organic life, and there are none on Homeworld. Being a product of status and privilege, her affluenza is off the charts. She's an insufferable and selfish little brat to everybody and everything, lashing out and throwing tantrums. Inside, she is deeply unhappy. It hurts to be the odd one out. But being the plucky and determined person she is, at first she thinks if she just had a colony of her own, she could show them all that she's just as important and valuable as the other Diamonds. She throws a tantrum, gets her army, gets her colonists, and gets a planet. Aaaannnd...oops, this is a lot harder than she thought it would be. She is in WAY over her head and she knows it. She does NOT have what it takes to be a Diamond and lead a colony, and she struggles to maintain it. While that's going on, something even stranger happens... Pink looks around her new world, and sees a beautiful, fertile, thriving planet of life, and this fascinates her. She soon learns she really loves animals and nature, humans and gems, and her powers manifest to being god-level useful for them, being able to create life, heal life, and even counter death itself. She discovers her ability to shape-shift is exceptional among gems in that she doesn't just change her light-based body, but also the physical anatomical structure of her own gem. Away from Homeworld, Pink Diamond starts to discover who Pink really is as a person for the first time in her existence. It gives her hope. She realizes that Homeworld's way of doing things is unsustainable. She knows hurting a planet, animals, people, and nature and paying no regard for their homes and their lives in the quest for resources to keep their society functioning is wrong. She starts realizing she is empathic and can feel the pain of the displaced animals, humans, and maybe even the planet itself. She loves Pearl as her one and only real friend, and realizes keeping her as a slave is wrong. She knows how society and her family feels about off-colored gems like her, and she may have even experimented with fusing with Pearl by then and wondered "This is what we break each other over? This is wrong...this is all wrong." Suddenly the weight of her life is too much to bear and she can't go through with it. She can't colonize Earth like expected of her. She can't live freely as herself with Homeworld and the Diamonds watching her. She'd rather shatter than hurt her planet, and she HATES being a royal because everybody treats her like a royal, not like a person. Pearl is her only real confidant and friend at that point and that hurts. She wants to just be herself, have friends, and be a normal person. Pink doesn't know what to do. She wants to run away. She can't tell her family about her feelings, because she knows Blue, Yellow, and White and all their subjects wouldn't understand. She has to stop the colony, but she can't do it as Pink Diamond, so she cooks up this idealistic alter persona of Rose Quartz and starts a rebellion against everything she's been taught and goes on a crusade to save her people and her planet. As Rose she's free to preach her ideals and starts rallying supporters, including Pearl. She hopes "Rose" and the "rebellion" will push the mommies Blue and Yellow into releasing her from the responsibility of her colony that she can't support. Nope. Blue and Yellow are like "Tough, this is what you wanted, so this what you got. We're tired of your excuses. Deal with it. Smile, wave, and for once in your life, do your damned job." In desperation to escape her intractable life and save her planet, she cooks up the shattering scheme and we know the rest of how well THAT worked out. After the war and the Corruption, "Rose" is left standing in the remains of her broken life, and the broken lives of the thousands of innocent gems that were brutally punished because of HER stupid mistakes. Her intentions were noble, but we all know where good intentions lead. She probably wished right then she'd been shattered for real. Pink Diamond, the eternal screw-up, screws it up again. She should have known. But at the same time, there is no way for her to have been able to do that. She's essentially a child, something gems don't have. She knew she needed to change, but that is something gems just don't do. Her powers are geared towards helping organic life, something unheard of amongst her kind as well as mostly useless to them. Pink Diamond...eternally alone with all her wrongness. She clings to the only two gems she has left...Pearl and Garnet. She wanders the world as Rose with her secrets, putting on a happy face to her remaining friends Garnet and Pearl and her beloved humans and animals, and later to Amethyst. She keeps all her problems wrapped up tight for 6,000 years, trying to move on, hoping one day to figure out a solution and in the meantime trying to do her meager damage control for the corrupted gems and searching endlessly for solutions to help them. Deep down, she knew she needed to change. She needed to grow up. Gems don't grow up, so she turned to the only people she knew had that wisdom and experience...humans. Humans knew how to grow and change. She watched, studied, and pondered on them for many years while she continues living her alter-life as Rose and refines her powers. Then she realizes her power over the organic nature of life gives her something special...the power of change. A way to be something more than the screw-up she is. She's still as determined as ever to DO something about her situation and BE truly the person worthy of the love she gets from Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl, and she NEEDS to because she knows by now that Homeworld is NOT ever going to leave them alone, and it's only a matter of time before they come back and destroy what little is left of her life and the lives of her loved ones. Then she meets Greg Universe, a loving and kind young human man that is a great match with her personally. They grow close and she starts to think maybe if she could become a human herself...she could learn how to be the person she actually wants to be instead of the monumental fuck up she was as both Pink Diamond and as Rose. Maybe Steven could succeed where Rose and Pink failed. So here we are in the middle of this crazy story with this crazy person seeking to find their niche in the universe. That's my thoughts. If you actually read through this whole brain dump, you have my deepest thanks. Personally I can't help but like Pink/Rose as a character. I admire her for TRYING. It's so rare to meet people who are really willing to sacrifice to learn to grow. I don't view her as good or bad, but as a complex individual just trying to find her own niche in the universe like everyone else, and I admire the hell out of the Crewniverse for their character creation skills. The End.
Like Rebecca Sugar said, what Rose did was both incredibly selfless AND incredibly selfish. She definitely loved Greg and wanted to be human. She was likely incredibly tired and weary of all the things she did, and likely saw having Steven both as a sacrifice to create something beautiful with the human she loved as well as an acceptable way to, not die, but fade away into something completely new and not her. She likely knew that she wouldn't become Steven or that Steven would be her, but she probably did see it as Steven being both her and Greg as the only fusion they could be.
yES I SAID THAT BEFORE... GODDAMIT..... pink matured and resolved her life while she fall in love with greg.. SHe was selfish person and become caring person. redempting her
I don't think PD resolved her life or matured by falling in love with Greg but used it as a way to get redemption (via giving birth to Steven). By having Steven she thought she could make amends through Steven, however Steven could never fix what she ruined by her bad decisions because she had Pearl (the only one who knew the whole truth) hide her real identity from him, Greg, and the rest of the CGs. She was once again running away from her problems and continuing to lie to the people who love her the most. You can't redeem yourself by living a lie.
I think PD reciprocated Greg's love. Greg did mention that they had a talk. She wanted to confront Greg about something. By then, Greg already knew that Pink started a war as Rose Quartz. She wanted to reveal her true self. However, Greg stopped her. He told Pink that what was important was the person she is now and not the person she used to be. Pink must've seen that as valueing herself as Rose rather than Pink.
Perhaps Pearl's memory was corrupted, causing two memories to fuse and eventually become one, the one we saw in 'A Single Pale Rose'. NOW THAT WOULD BE A PLOT TWIST.
@DehSky No they won't because most people look on your small group of crybabies with irony.. yours desperate attempt to deny what was foreshadowed from the beginning become more and more hilarious 0_0
@The Irish Elite Not everyone. Everyone was sick of trying debate with people who presumed that this theory was thrown away and refuse to acknowledge numerous clues through whole show. Like that Bismuth state clearly that Ross Sword was designed to not shatter.. but noooo.. if Pink hit hard enough and stars aligned it would work cause say so. Not that Steven did have powers and memory of pink diamond! Everyone know that old theory was debunked.. because.. wait? When it was ever debunked? People just presumed that due to clear bias regard Pink, what by the way is totally unjustified as she wasn't Childish anymore after hundreds years of rule on the Earth, lets ignore that.. people are cardboard cuts after all 0_0
Eyeball did say Stevens gem was more of a pink than a reddish pink of a real rose quartz, so I guess she was right and that was because of pink diamonds color.
I honestly don't think that rose is a super awful person. I think that there will eventually be an explanation for her actions that read as selfish without. Of course maybe I'm wrong. It just be a shame for a character with such a wonder design to end up just evil.
Cyrus ward Her actions where never evil in the first place, people forget she was trying to protect millions of innocent life forms from her genocidal sisters.
PapaGarchomp i wouldnt say *sisters*. The diamonds seem to be more like mother figures to Pink. After all SU is all about Escapism at most points and it touches on Parental Relationships alot as well.
The thing is at the time of the rebellion I don't think her love of humanity was that strong, I mean she liked humans but it was more like a person that loves their pet. She mostly rebelled to escape her duties as a diamond. She didn't really come to love and respect humans until she fell in love with Greg. Her actions did technically save the Earth and by no means is PD/RQ evil, she had good intentions but her naivety prevented her from looking at the bigger picture. Even Pearl was doubtful of the whole plan to shatter herself and look what happened.
@Sissy Jack The thing is that she didn't have other options even if she was naive. Blue was clear about that. Pink need to be there and genocide end by itself. She really did have only one option to save humans, even if result was totally unpredictable and almost did destroy planet anyway.
I only watch bits here and there of SU. However, my understanding is that the Gem society acts sort of like an ant or bee hive with diamonds acting as queens. Pink being the youngest, having bratty selfish mentality makes sense. Seeing humans variety in life open her eyes to how much more the Gems could be. While, making mistakes I don't think the whole war, she did for herself. She did it so the Gems could be more individuals; just her youth and lack of experience and wisdom compared to the other diamonds, she would make mistakes that in retrospect be obviously bad. Pink's/Rose's abilities that Steven inherited for the most part seem to steam from a form of compassion. Which argues against a selfish nature, but doesn't excuse bratty. Whether healing, shield, reviving. Dealing with Gregg it seems she realized that she didn't fully understand being human. So, I do think Steven was a way to do what she could not but not as a means of redemption. the Gems seem to have grown more as individuals with Steven since they've had to raise him. perhaps Pearl eventually talk about more of Pink in flashback episodes revealing Pink's intent more clearly.
I'm fine with Pink being Rose, I actually kind of like it, but here's what gets to me Slice, if Pink wanted to start over as Rose and live happily on earth, why did she basically frame her alter ego Rose and new identity only make herself a villain to the diamonds. She could have faked her shattering in any other way?
Not to mention she thought the other diamonds didn't care about her so she thought they would just up and leave earth alone once they heard about her "Shattering"
Kitsune Xxx problem is though, the diamonds are meant to be a symbol of authority to gems. If her court found out that she didn't want to do *what she was made to do* their would be serious problems. A diamond, the symbol of authority and the one gem other gems live to serve not wanting that would cause uproar.
Also it's not like Y/B diamond could have left an uncontrolled planet to rebels so idk what possessed her to think of a crazy ass plan like that would work. They had to something about it but their anger and grief got the better of them.
Kitsune Xxx we went from Pink being a spoiled brat, to the saviour of the Earth and all life on it, to a deceptive liar with no character development in between. The only saving grace for this character is Pearl's undying devotion and the loyalty of the CG's which make me hope there was more that what we are seeing from the surface presentation of her nature. She seems like an impulsive flake TBH. But Pearl is one of my favorite characters and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt everyone sees when it comes to Pink/Rose.
I love your videos so much, they're always interesting! I kind of like Rose's character/actions being called into question -- probably the thing I like most about her actually being Pink Diamond. There's so much to talk about, with her, and with how things have gone in the whole Gem-verse because of it.
Damn. I'm early. Good thing I never leave RUclips and just happened to refresh the page!! I just really wanna know if Greg really knew she was Pink Diamond.
Not that he really did care.. Ross was what Pink always wanted to be. People are totally biased about Pink being evil.. more then two dimensions are too much for them 0_0
yaaasss slice, this is the insight i love to hear! i really think pink did love a lot of things, but it’s clear that she couldn’t truly connect.....except with maybe greg. the fact that she made one of greg’s catchphrases the activation phrase for her laser light cannons shows some significance to me. she chose greg, of all the people she loved, to create steven with. i think he did greatly effect her, and maybe is the reason she even began to consider “becoming” a human herself.
What about all that we got from “Mr. Greg”? How no other dude ever mattered to Rose as much as Greg, or how Pearl flat out states that Rose actually fell in love with him? Or at least some kind of love however Rose understood it.
I feel like people don't give Pink enough credit. I'm not saying she did the completely right thing, but everyone's questioning not only the results, but her moral founding on it. She was a child. The youngest of the Diamonds and really, she probably thought of this in a simple fashion as well. "Earth isn't just another colony to be made, it has life too.It shows a life of freewill, that gems deserve as well, but me promoting that message as pink diamond is just like me ordering them to "be free", which defeats the point." She doesn't' mind being a leader, but she wanted the people to hear her words and gain freedom not just because she said so, but to make something new. She also didn't want the life that gave her this vision to be rubbed out. I'd wager she talked to her sisters about it, but Yellow, the natural grown tyrant, told her to stuff it, she asked for the colony, while Blue, the nicer, if posh, sister, patted her head and told her she was silly for caring for humans. The zoo was Pink's attempt to save a bit of the human race without getting crap from her sisters, but ultimately was just a cage to the freedom she saw. Her status was a cage not just for her, but all those underneath her. She wanted to break societies chains on her and her people. I think, she really didn't understand what she was going to make happen, cause she figured the other diamonds would see it as a shattering of an important official, like a sapphire. At best she expected the war, but not direct Diamond interference. Foolish, headstrong, naive, more then a little childish? definitely Manipulative, Irresponsible, downright evil? I don't think so. We should most definitely look at it with broader sight
I'd like to think that the credit song "Love like you" is sang by Rose to Greg, at first admitting that it was more of a trying at the beginning. But then she saw how much Greg loved her, she loved him back, but not as strong as he did. "I always thought I might be bad, now I'm sure that it's true" Her realizing that she *has* feelings for Greg, but still feels bad for just experimenting at fist. "I wish that I knew, what makes you think I'm so special?" Her diamond form talking. She was pretending to be a Quartz soldier, which in homeworld, have no value as we saw how the Amethysts where treaten in the human zoo. Maybe even she thought that quartz weren't that special, so this line is talking to everyone, why Rose is such a important and special leader. "I *could* even learn how to love like you" Maybe she meant that she knows that Greg puts even more into this relationship than she is doing.
Gabriel López I think not since in season 4 he refered to the topic like this: "Rose and I talked about tons of important stuff. Music, comic books, getting sand between your toes, y'know, feelings. We both made a lot of mistakes when we were young. I thought disco was coming back, she started a war, I think she felt like she had to confess everything to me, but I told her, "The past is the past. All that matters to me is who you are now." And who she was, was an incredible, loving being."
If you think it, the love between pink d. And greg its like guardians of the galaxy 2, that explains that" quill's " father like got married with like every "woman" in the universe, but instead of that, its pink with greg. ...i know this is kinda stupid...but you understand right?
Yes, I do agree that she did change. Oh and can Steven ( if he masters shape shifting ) become pink diamond? And wait wouldn’t the fusions with him/ “Rose” be diamonds?? She died. That’s how she changed. And Greg hIT SOME DIAMOND AS----- Jk, but I do agree with the theory :)
We already seen that steven repeatily say that he's not his mother and only said that he was rose in the trial because he thought he could protect everyone else by giving up himself. Why would he shapeshift into his mother?
Well in the episode where Greg tried to fuse, she said you humans, not to greg, but the world, that says that she didn't feel that emotion at first, like you said, but she turned herself mostly to show that she wasn't purely a creation of the earth, but a creation of life through Steven, which is why pearl didn't pull out the gem,to not disturb what she wanted, but she was naturally rose before greg because she didn't want to turn back to being a diamond
Greg and Rose/Pink were used to being overlooked and told what they can't have or do so they both later became free and we're allowed to live their own lives maybe they just remind each other how good freedom is
I think the episode We Need To Talk, when Greg made it very clear he wanted to have a real relationship with her, that it was supoosed to lay the setting for their relationship that comes after. It would allude that after that Rose tried (and assumably succeeded) to learn how to love Greg the way he did her after they talked things out.
I still think her argument with yellow was long ago before getting the earth, and that she had grown up a little, proven herself just enough to the other diamonds, but was still very...uh, childish? And I don't think She's the one who fully planned out the human zoo, I think her Gems did because she wanted it. She wanted humans, and she wanted to be humans, and she didn't know how to get that. the flashback where blue berates her for being able to stop a rebellion, to a teenager, (like how I think she was mentally at the time), not the child with yellow before. And to a Teenager? that conversation would probably come off as uncaring, so she decided that they didn't care what happened and then she faked her own death out rebellion and out of wanting to be with the humans, i think Pink faking her own death is when the war really kicked off, I think before that she had found other gem who also loved how the earth was and had moved them elsewhere, but that she wasn't with them fulltime, and most of the "rebellion" that she reported hadn't really happened. That with Blues reaction she decided to fake her own death and they would go away, after all, it was only "Pinks planet". But I think she underestimated how her death would affect the ones who loved her, like many teenagers who run away or try to kill themselves, or who do kill themselves, must don't think anyone will care. But they did, and that's when the war really kicked off. And it wasn't like she could back out now, who knows how they would react, everyone would have been so angry. So she had to care on. and sometime after that came Garnet, because they came after Blue. I think the war really kicking off after faking her death also explains how she could be in two places at once, because she wasn't, by that time she was only ever Rose. I don't think she expected anything that came after faking her death would happen, and she didn't really know how to handle it, and she certainly didn't think that the Diamonds would corrupt all the gems on earth. She had flings with humans and thought them "fun" because she was a teen, and that's what teens do, and want to do, have fun. I think Greg opened her eyes a bit, I think he was the only human she got with to ever stay, and to ever try to understand how she was, and then she wanted a baby, I don't think she really thought the consequences through, most Teenagers don't, and so she had a baby, she probably didn't even really thinks she'd be gone, she's been there through the baby. I think by that point, after so many years she had probably given up the corrupted gems, and she probably didn't think the diamonds would ever come back, she didn't think they would care in the first place, and despite their reactions to her death, she probably still doubted how much they cared. And she defiantly didn't know about the cluster, there is no way she could have known about it.
Dezarae Medley true. Remember that her motivation for going to Earth's Surface technically boiled down to "ugggggh this is soooo boring watching this planet from space...ooh! I know! Let's go down to the surface and see what it's like; it'll be fun!"
Oh my gosh, pink diamond isn't the most villainous creature in the universe, she is an irresponsible, reckless person she still loved all things, she is a teenager, like a teenager what she loves is done so immensely, but the responsibilities she hates, she does the same. Pink diamond isn't a manipulating horrendous monster, I can't believe that the person in jungle could've pulled off that, she acts the way she wants, and or thinks right.
Yeah. I think that's exactly why Pearl stopped herself at that moment. She realized that it would reveal Rose Quartz's true identity. That was a close one.
"It doesn't matter, I love you for who you are, not what you are." Dunno if it's just me, but did anyone else have the feeling that Greg might have said that?
I've been thinking of this, too, and I really think that Pink Diamond was a teen lashing out and being selfish, while the Rose Quartz that Greg first meets is still really selfish and doesn't notice others, she grows being in a real relationship. Being told by Greg to treat him seriously is what first shocked her into realizing that she treated EVERYONE like kids and lessers. So Pink finally grew up into Rose (who still isn't perfect or GOOD); or that is what I'm hoping, since Rebecca Sugar seems to suggest in interviews that Rose has done terrible things, but isn't a full villain.
Christy Wakeen well at least for me pink diamond died when she faked her death, but pink chose to live as rose from then on, it's not like Rose is as immature as rose, when pink died, she changed and choose to live a new life as Rose Quartz, and leave pink diamond behind, it's kinda of like this, rose isn't pink diamond but pink diamond is rose, because pink became the person she was before she gave birth to Steven, which was Rose Quartz.
It’s not like Rose continued to flip flop between the two identities. Being the background of the creator, I think she may be an allegory of someone transitioning from one gender to another. But instead she transitioned from being one gem to another.
The song from this show, "Love Like You" makes a lot more sense now that I can see it as Pink singing about Greg. Especially the line, "I always thought that I was bad now I know that it's true, because I think you're so good and I'm nothing like you". I don't know if anyone else has said that before me (most likely yes). It's interesting to go back after this big reveal and listen to it again.
I think we've only seen a couple episodes with PD/Greg, and all of them were in the beginning of their relationship so we can't make a solid stance on the validity of their love. I'd like to see what their dynamic was like when Greg was older.
Pretty safe to say that Pink Diamond's motives were entirely selfish up until the end. If she still saw Greg as a lesser being (an animal) when they first met, along with Sour cream being practically the first human baby she's seen 'then Pink Diamond can't have learned nor changed much between the end of the gem war and that point. All this and add the fact she's supposedly had previous relationships with other humans kinda makes her Rose quartz persona very manipulative. Of course the other human relationships might've all been at her zoo (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) which would explain that but not the baby bit. So Gem bestiality is a thing... 'way to go Rebecca ^.^ it's in your head now just accept it lol.
Like I said on that other video, Pink was really REALLY short sighted, and didn't think ANY of her ANYTHING through, so I do think she might have used Greg as you say, but I think she was seeing GREGS obvious love and yet understood that she wasn't capable of doing the same for him. On Gregs part, he's in a lot of ways, similar to Pink in terms of not planning ahead, and taking life on as it hits him, but unlike Pink he doesn't shirk responsibility- Greg's all through the series been shown to be sort of living car wash fare to car wash fare (until he got rich) but he nevertheless has ALWAYS been a responsible adult for what things he does as a father, and before that he was the CLASSIC ARCHETYPE of a garage-band musician with dreams of making it big that he probably would never have accomplished even if he HADNT met Rose: Maybe THATS why Greg was the one Rose had a kid with over all the other humans she obviously was infatuated with before, but as Pearl stated- she got bored with them eventually: similar enough for a connection, but with an aspect to him that she didn't have. Also, yeah- as I mentioned, I imagine Greg being able to take this news well, given that he is indeed a "roll with the punches" guy. But he'd probably need to sit down and contemplate a few things.
I definitely said the same thing, pink diamond/rose quartz didn't think her plan through and she surely don't care about anyone else but herself and her needs, now since this has been revealed, whose to say she is gone forever? Maybe this is another ruse in her game of trying to obtain what she never had? Slice you always make me think, now me and my son about to really debate about this! Can't wait for the next video
I don't think Steven is his mother... he is just the object who is trapping her/preventing her from reforming in gem form. He is the equivalent of Lapis' mirror only (obviously) he is sentient. I agree that Pink is selfish but, she is a mega privileged being. She's always been handed everything she's ever wanted... so, if she so happened to find an affinity for life experiences, what else would u expect to happen other that acting out passionately and without thinking about major consequences 😕 isn't that how most privileged people act like (even if their intentions were meant to be innocent)?
Charlie Abraham Arana nah i think he is more.he has lots of his moms powers and strenght. I think when pink made steven, her conciousness truly left this world,And steven became his own gem
I was listening to love like you and I think it fits rose even better now. In the song it ask why you think I’m so special? Because Greg saw her as special but not because she was a diamond (practically made to be special), not because she was the leader but just because of herself. And I like the idea that that is what changed her.
I hope they show some more of pink diamond's choice, and what lead to it. Also, I would like to add, that if she did not fight that war, then there would be no chance of humans being free from the diamonds, or for gems to be equals. Sure plenty died for it, or worse, but that's what war is. Its an ultimatum because of its repercussions, and we know that the diamonds wouldn't let pink do as she pleased letting the other gems be free and the planet uncolonized.
But that’s the thing- There didn’t have to be a war. As a Diamond Pink had the power and authority to rule her colony HER way with her OWN RULES- Yes she may have been looked down on for it by Yellow and White, but she was already an off color Diamond so what would it matter? But instead she decided to be selfish and run from her responsibilites, showing off exactly how childish and shortsighted she is. Hundreds of thousands of gems were shattered, corrupted, and turned into the CLUSTER and FORCE FUSIONS because she couldn’t handle the responsibility of running a colony or standing up to her family. She couldn’t just look at them and say, “I’m running my colony MY way- I will still do my duty as a diamond and create gems, but I will NOT destroy or rule over the organic life on my colony because they are as sentient as we are and can prove their worth.” She also could’ve fought from the inside to destroy the rigid caste system, allowing her and Pearl to be together, but she didn’t. So while there isn’t a good war, there are most definitely PREVENTABLE wars.
This whole thing just makes me think of the lyrics: If I could begin to be Half of what you think of me I could do about anything I could even learn how to love and I always thought I might be bad Now I’m sure that its true ‘cause I think you’re so good And I’m nothing like you
There is so much hate in this video for Pink Diamond. A character we actually know very little about. On top of having a whole storyline we now get to figure out, everyone quickly forgets she saved earth. I mean, she saved mankind! Can we cut her a little slack for having flaws? I think the creators have laid down a lot of breadcrumbs to get us to question Pink/Rose, but I think you’re judging her way too quickly.
Most people fear meeting their significant-other's parents because sometimes, at least one of the two has a tendency to point out there flaws and will usually continue to antagonize them beyond marriage as their in-laws.
Greg didn't need an engagement ring because he got himself a diamond :)
I don't know how to feel about this comment
He got the ring of a diamond
Cute
Mah man!
Someone give this guy a trophy
He did.. he told Steven (sort off) on end of first season. Just we didn't know anything about diamonds back then.
😢
Greg *did* open her eyes to how complex humans are. She held a distant love for them, but never seemed to understand that people have the same feelings Gems have.
I think a good think to keep in mind is, in the flashback episodes with Greg and Rose, Greg is in his early 20s/college level. And now you can assume he's double the age. Maybe since they spent at least a decade together, and he was so caring and willing to teach Rose all about his race, maybe their love became genuine towards the end.
If anything this one reveal makes you want to rewatch the whole show with this new info. Like this changes the whole love like you song now too
Pink clearly did intentionally save humanity back then, even with cost of huge losses.. Greg couldn't be even alive five thousands years ago. So how the f*k this make any sense?
TheRezro Rose/Pink had a sort of admiration towards humans. She loved their way of life, but in a distant way; she never really experienced what it's like to be truly human until Greg brought her to reality.
Yulrica thanks
Technically Greg run out from his family too, so he would find a level of relatability with Pink.
christnapa4 awesome
Exactly what I've been thinking lately!
christnapa4 that's true... Nice observation!
Good point.
Maybe the Phrase just made her feel better about not being perfect.
Shane Lawrence I completely agree
Haha! This has been one of the most friendly conversations I ever had on a youtube comment section. I hope you have a good day.
Shane Lawrence ty lmao ppl are crazy . I try pulling my theory’s out but no one ever really tells me what the think lol maybe because I don’t wear “rose” colored glasses lmao 😂
"Their chimera of an offspring" -The best description of Steven Universe ever
"I don't even know what HE'S supposed to be"
True. Very true. But it sounds like cold in a way though.
Steven: "Hey!"
Siriusly Orion HAHAH
Kinda yeah
Steven is a chimera ant! I knew it all along
I love Greg, he’s such a dork ^^
Why do you have the same picture
Yeah, I never got why people didn't like him supposedly. A friend of mine told me people constantly hated on him in the fandom. *shrugs*
OMG I LOVE YOUR PROFILE PIC
Hannah Johnson he's no mega dork.
*he's gregga dork*
Hannah Johnson lol
That's actually the truth btw it has been confirmed.
@@bgggg4168 oh god so if pink and rose were two different people
@@bgggg4168 really ? where ? Like do you have any article I could read? 0o0 or was it on the vid? It's fine if u don't remeber sorry for trouble.
Pearl is really not mentally healthy
@@isa-sp2rp No one in this show is mentally healthy.
*PLOT TWIST* :
Steven: Dad *crying* mom was actually...PINK DIAMOND!
Greg: Phew, by time everyone else knew.
Christian Craig of he knew all along I would be shook
Christian Craig i would be mad if greg knew all along
why? it would make sense he would know...
Pearl would be pissed af if that was the case!
Christian Craig this is exactly what I'm hoping for. Then Greg and pearl relate on an even higher level than they already do.
Seeing you grow as a content creator is so exciting. Love you too Papa Slice.
Hmm..
Harmless Spider I know right
Lel
you should do an analysis of "Love like You" i think there is more to that song than we have ever thought
Kathia Angel dude now that i imagined how this theory make this song have finally a meaning
Isabel Brokaw I get it. Like when people tell stories and it turns out that the main character was them?
Bennea Smith Lol yeah it reminds me of a certain twist in Coco but I won't say it.
@The Irish Elite
For the note we do know that Pink try abandon Earth.
@Sissy Jack
Yes, but it was all what she have at that point.
The definition of selfish is thus - "a person, action, or motive lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure."
That is _exactly_ what Pink did.
R. Edwards wow you wrote a lot but yes you are right. i'm very proud
R. Edwards yes i completely agree.
pink is a selfish tyrant.
>:)
I do think she fell in love with Greg. However I do think she was being a bit selfish
Well isn't being selfish a part of loving?
Let’s put it this way: She started a rebel force against her own people while lying to the rebel force about her identity.
All her actions seem like a child jist doing what she wants without adult guidance and without caring about what happens as a result.
yea same
(Wall of text as usual, so here's a warning. Love you all!)
Pink was(is?) so INCREDIBLY short sighted, and has never forgiven herself for all she has done.
I agree with you.
Devin Johns Deep and well explained.
So I think if anything it was her way of escaping and creating something real, something special, and maybe as she saw it a small bit of redemption and maybe a way to
become a better person.
Devin Johns whatever I love evil diamonds anyway
HandMade By Holly *thank you* Holy bloody hell someone else thinks this.
HandMade By Holly that make sense, a lot of sense.
I agree with you. I was thinking this for a while kinda.
very good! at least some people actually see a character thoroughly and not out right demonizing them.
the crystal gems *chose* to follow rose quarts, she didn't command them.
Well she sacrificed her whole future for humanity.. how more selfish you can be then that? For some people it seams it can't.
She even said it in "Love Like You"
*when a gross half bald man that lives in his van somehow makes love and inseminates an immortal pink diamond goddess from space capable of controlling and colonizing planets yet somehow you are sitting here watching alone in your room still single*
so true
I suppose that’s true lol
Acctually i got a girlfriend today😎
*cartoons be quirky, people do a lot of stupid stuff in cartoons* -mr.enter
Maybe you should leave your room, she(or he no judgement either way) isn't going to manifest in your room. There's someone for everyone.
what makes it funnier, is when blue kidnaps greg, talk about getting kidnaped by your sister in law.
I be live that Pink really matured when she met Greg. She spent along time with him (long by human standards), so I don't think Greg was just a tool for her.
"You know rose...always did what she wanted" Greg and pearl said something like that in the episode where pearl sang it's over isn't it
Greg seduced two diamonds if you think about it.
Tbh, Blue Diamond can catch some sweet murderdickings too.
That's not seduction, that's grieving you doofus
I feel like we’re making a lot of assumptions about Rose/PDs motivations from faking her death onwards. We really don’t know whether she did it to fight for her rebellion (not understanding the reaction the other diamonds would have) or because she was running from her problems. Keep in mind, things changed quite a bit for PD between Jungle Moon and faking her death. She clearly grew up at some point in between.
Tristan Neal by my analyses she definantly did not think that the diamond attack would happen.
zalbortrox zalbortox Yeah, the way she says “Blue and Yellow don’t care” + how flippantly she decides to fake her death without saying goodbye says to me that she didn’t think the other diamonds cared enough to be genuinely hurt by her death. And since she didn’t realize how that would hurt them, she didn’t think they would bother with something like the corruption song.
1:27
"The very same child"
And I'm the very same child who, at four years old, threw a stuffed animal onto my mother's oven, laughing as it burst into flames and possibly caught my house on fire.
I think this was all intentional because at first, we see her as this saint, before being shown that she was anything but.
someone finally said it.
I like that story
"She wanted to bridge the gap between humans and gems, and that's why Steven was made."
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING FOR A LONG TIME! I truly believe that Greg will NOT feel heartbroken when he finds out Rose's identity. In fact I believe it would make him feel much better about a Revolution for gem-kind.
4:01 is there like a scale of being normal pregnant to *MEGA* pregnant?
ICraftTheArt Any time in the last two days of expectancy. Babies commonly are born from a few days, to even weeks both before, or after the expected due date. So I would say 48 hours until expected delivery is *MEGA* *PREGNANT!*
my husband was a 14 pound baby, so maybe if your baby is over 10 pounds, mom is mega pregnant?
she was preganant
I think he meant it like she was OBVUOUSLY visibly pregnant already
Did you mean: *gregnant?*
Aii iiA to what evidence do we see her as a bad person so far please explain?
zalbortrox zalbortox zalbortrox zalbortox Oh, well a lot of people are thinking she's a bad person because of her decision to fake her death, turning against gem kind, causing the war, and basically all of the negative effects associated with the gem war.
Yea I can agree with that. A few more months and we might have a better idea with her motives. Until then-- LET THE SHAKING SPLIT RESUME.
*Pink diamond stopped Bismuth not because of ethical issues but because Bismuth was threatening Pink’s family to her face. Carry on.*
krowking123 I think she did this because Bismuth was threatening *her* to her face
I think the REAL question is, did she bubble Bismuth before or after she faked her death?
Chase Langlands
Before, pretty much confirmed.
Pearl told Bismuth that she was bubbled for 5,300 years, about 300 before the Diamond attack, and Bismuth never got the chance to know anything about Pink's 'Shattering'.
@The Green Dragon 53
And she would guess that Ross sword can't shatter if it would be after.
I love everything about this! It makes you take time to sit down and really think about it.
K.G. Donathan Yeah, all great shows must put the fanbase thinking deeply, which makes them successful.
K.G. Donathan but didn't they arrived on earth millions of years ago?
@Quantum Boy
Vox at that point blatantly ignore facts to prove his agenda..
I vote for a shirt that has a picture of Greg and it says “the right kind of freaky”
Greg seems to be able to get along with diamonds, at the moment pink and Blue.
This is wrong...this is all wrong."
Suddenly the weight of her life is too much to bear and she can't go through with it.
Smile, wave, and for once in your life, do your damned job."
In desperation to escape her intractable life and save her planet, she cooks up the shattering scheme and we know the rest of how well THAT worked out.
The End.
wow this theory was interesting :0
This theory is spot on, and I loved the way you analyzed Pink's/Rose's character.
^^^ This ^^^
Beautifully written
After Undertale, the meaning of "determination" is forever changed for me. ..
When you started to talk about love, it made me think about "Love like you" and the meaning that song now has.
SHe was selfish person and become caring person. redempting her
YES!
Nice sock profile pic
Sissy Jack no Greg knew it in some point... he knew something more than rest crystal gems.
stefan barr oh thanks did this fanart long ago like 2 year
I really, REALLY enjoy the take on her wanting to really become human, rather than Rose giving birth to steven in order to run and hide again.
You are on a roll with these theories and I’m shook!!!
Erin Johnson I agree with you I wouldn't be surprised that if one of his theories show up in Steven Universe
I LOVE THAT THUMBNAIL I love how everyone is swiching rose with pink
She also resulted in getting rid of all the rose quartz gems, the gems she created!
After seeing her gem creating ability,I can't help but wondered ....maybe those rose quartz were all just non sentient rock....
@@陳品涵-j9r she did create a perfect gem: Jasper
Avonvalley1
I do not think it was her who bubbled them🧐
Perhaps Pearl's memory was corrupted, causing two memories to fuse and eventually become one, the one we saw in 'A Single Pale Rose'.
NOW THAT WOULD BE A PLOT TWIST.
i think they would do thats since most people hate the pink diamond is rose quartz thing.. :( i love the plot twist form a single pale rose
DehSky The oldest theory everyone threw away. We showed them. We showed them all. Seriously people are hating on Pink far too much.
You sound desperate now.
@DehSky
No they won't because most people look on your small group of crybabies with irony.. yours desperate attempt to deny what was foreshadowed from the beginning become more and more hilarious 0_0
@The Irish Elite
Not everyone.
I still think her actions are justifiable.
@Sissy Jack
The thing is that she didn't have other options even if she was naive.
I just need an R rated version of Steven universe and I’ll finally understand how this “birth” really worked
Damn hats off to you for realizing that thing about pearl pulling the gem out of baby Steven
The Sassy Whale He knew it, watch the 2 last episodes from season 1.
I mean, pink Diamond aka Rose seem to like to tease men in general.
she not only teased men, she had flings with men in the past before greg
Pathetic For the record, I don't think it was specified as just men, just that there were past partners
Humans in general tho
Pearl's song specified men, though Greg asked her about "humans".
I guess his sword was strong enough to pierce a diamond. ;)
Rose is pink
Greg is human
Put them together
You get steven
little tale ink san ehhhhhhhh it almost works
What about all that we got from “Mr. Greg”? How no other dude ever mattered to Rose as much as Greg, or how Pearl flat out states that Rose actually fell in love with him?
Or at least some kind of love however Rose understood it.
IM HERE -kicks down a door-
Dude you know ho long it took me to put up that door?
KICK IN THE DOOR WAVIN THE .44
TooManystars 4 that picture along with the comment are perfect. Thank you for a lovely laugh.
I feel like people don't give Pink enough credit. I'm not saying she did the completely right thing, but everyone's questioning not only the results, but her moral founding on it. She was a child. The youngest of the Diamonds and really, she probably thought of this in a simple fashion as well.
"Earth isn't just another colony to be made, it has life too.It shows a life of freewill, that gems deserve as well, but me promoting that message as pink diamond is just like me ordering them to "be free", which defeats the point."
She doesn't' mind being a leader, but she wanted the people to hear her words and gain freedom not just because she said so, but to make something new.
Foolish, headstrong, naive, more then a little childish? definitely
Manipulative, Irresponsible, downright evil? I don't think so. We should most definitely look at it with broader sight
SO UR SAYING THAT BLUE AND YELLOW R GREG'S PARENT IN LAWS.........O.........M.........G..........i mean sisters in law...
They're related and Steven is their brother lol
I Wonder if greg knew rose is pink diamond?
Most likely not. No one knew except pearl. Not even the diamonds
He knew she was filled with secrets but decided to "leave the past in the past".
He knew it, watch the 2 final episodes from season 1.
Gabriel López you mean the return and jail break?
And Greg hIT SOME DIAMOND AS-----
Jk, but I do agree with the theory :)
YES. I want Steven Diamond! That would be so cool. He is a diamond now, so technically Earth is his colony since it was Pink’s, and he is Pink
Doggos. Tsk tsk. She didn't *die* she just have up her form and became part of good old Steven
Doggos.
You mean he fucc a diamond
GREG 💥 A DIAMOND
Tbh how do you have this much creativity like wow omg 💞
Greg and Rose/Pink were used to being overlooked and told what they can't have or do so they both later became free and we're allowed to live their own lives maybe they just remind each other how good freedom is
*Ahhhh Greg fell in love with a Diamond* 💕💕💕
4:17 wait a minute.
WAIT JUST A FLIPPING MINUTE.
THAT WAS FORESHADOWING THAT STEVEN HAS PINK DIAMAND'S GEM!!!!!!
Yeah. I think that's exactly why Pearl stopped herself at that moment.
She realized that it would reveal Rose Quartz's true identity.
That was a close one.
I will always say it, how great Greg, falling in love and making love with one of the highest ranking and most prestigious gems
"It doesn't matter, I love you for who you are, not what you are."
Dunno if it's just me, but did anyone else have the feeling that Greg might have said that?
I really feel you shouldn't be calling her Pink Diamond. That's Rose Quartz. Pink Diamond died a long time ago.
Pink Diamond IS Rose Quartz, so its basically the same thing
It feels weird saying Pink Diamond to Rose, IDK 😂😂
Wilson Martínez Same 😥
I think we've only seen a couple episodes with PD/Greg, and all of them were in the beginning of their relationship so we can't make a solid stance on the validity of their love. I'd like to see what their dynamic was like when Greg was older.
Poor Greg was catfished. Lol
Wow I like how you told us your idea while still being respectful just like all your other video
Wait...
Steven is a DIAMOND.
The diamonds are the most HIGHEST gem beings.
Steven is just.... Wow!
Wow, never thought of it like that but I really like it. You always open a new perspective of this show to me and I LOVE it!!! Thank you!
Amazing ideas, I honestly dont know how you have thought of them for so long. you got real smarts. :3
I actually find this theory quite heartwarming! I hope your right, too. Stay cool Slice! 🤗
So Pink Diamond was basically humankin.
Marin Eduard I don't think that the shows "rules" work like that. It's a nice thought, but I guess only time will tell what Rebecca truly meant
As Greg put it "There's no such thing as a good war".
This whole thing just makes me think of the lyrics:
If I could begin to be
Half of what you think of me
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love
and
I always thought I might be bad
Now I’m sure that its true
‘cause I think you’re so good
And I’m nothing like you
There is so much hate in this video for Pink Diamond.
Marianne Burch I respect you very much.
Most people fear meeting their significant-other's parents because sometimes, at least one of the two has a tendency to point out there flaws and will usually continue to antagonize them beyond marriage as their in-laws.
Steven universe is more mature than is mother. Maybe you can look at Pink Diamond to Steven as one character.
I honestly agree and it is awesome how you put pink diamomd/rose in a whole different light
