Pink Diamond actually reminds me of Peter Pan. An eternal child that has all the negative aspects of childhood. Only unlike Peter, Pink wanted to grow but didn't know how.

@@fossil1266 This is also very true. But I would like to take a moment to point out how Gems work. As seen on Kingergarden Kid, Gem's are grow in the ground, like plant seeds. Likewise, they carry the same flaws. A peach seed can only grow into a peach tree, but things like height, width, and quality/quantity of fruit will depend on factors like sun, rain, and soil quality. Gems are the same, the quality and soil they grow in will affect how they turn out. Something Homeworld seems to be in denial of.

We've essentially seen Pink Diamond's redemption arc backwards, and that has colored everyone's perceptions of her.
When it comes to Steven specifically, Pink Diamond legitimately had no intention of "making him clean up her messes". Even Garnet never saw the Homeworld Ship coming, and it wasn't until Steven met Lapis that the Diamonds on Homeworld became aware there were any gems left on Earth. In all cases, she believed that the Diamonds had indeed abandoned Earth and that Steven would grow up safe.
And there was nothing to show otherwise. I think it's important to remember that.
Rose Quartz in her video message to Steven verses Pink Diamond leaving Spinel behind to get to her colony come off like entirely different characters.

@@bolladragon yeah, she did grow (even if only slightly) she just was never once told her actions were wrong or hurt anyone. She surrounded herself with yes men, even if unintentionally. I do wonder what would have happened if she survived giving birth to Steven. Would she have faced her mistakes and grown from it? Or would she have just ran away like she did with everything else? And would Pearl have followed her?

The best way to look at the difference between Pink Diamond and Rose in viewpoints would be from how no gem could recognize Pinks own Pearl. Not the original, but our Pearl. They just aren’t seen as individuals. Pink viewed Spinel as any other Spinel (and Pearls song kind of indicates that Spinel isn’t unique in the respect of the kind of gem she is, but rather by her cut and how she is made for Pink specifically).
Contrast to Rose, who eventually sees cause and effect from what the gems do to other life. Rose, who saw Garnet and decided that there was more at stake than just Earth’s life, but Gems individual freedom. Rose describes how she views humans ability to change in Greg the Babysitter as a contrast to Gems who come out as they at with their designed purpose. They don’t naturally change. Rose forced a foreign for the betterment of everyone else. The tragedy though is she had to do it on her own. She didn’t have her own Steven. Greg was still figuring his own stuff out and was too young to guide her in becoming a better person. He did his best and made great progress inadvertently, but nonetheless she was self-taught.
Say what you want about her, but at least she isn’t a boring Mary Sue.
Ikr right? It seems like a lot of people want that, because that's what she always felt like at first- perfect, boring, untouchable female hero....but once her flaws came out she was more interesting like an anti hero-- sorry for this being long I'm just tired of people acting like all the stuff she did didn't happen.

Everybody hates pink now but I still feel like she’s not a villain. a very flawed person? Yes. But evil?

Yes, she isn’t evil because it would suggest that she had the intention to hurt others. Pink is a bad person. The Diamonds or at the very least Yellow was a villain that was described as a bad/ misunderstood person. Overall, none of the diamonds are redeemable but I would said that Pink isn’t the worst.

Teliki Mouse You shouldn’t stab the man but you shouldn’t silence what he did and pardon him just because he is gone. Pink Diamond not being able to defend or redeem herself doesn’t mean that we cannot discuss about what she did, agree and repeat that she was an horrible person so her victims and what was done to them isn’t forgotten or belittle. Her death doesn’t mean that the people concern by what she did should move one or that she has to be pardon. It can be apply both to fiction and reality.
The other diamonds were NOT redeemed and the movie points this out I'm tired of people saying they were redeemed when their actions come off very superficial and Steven no longer can stand them. All of the diamonds were bad in different ways.
It's not easy to break programming, gems are tech and there's probably a limit to just how much it's possible for them to "deviate"
Bismuth still wants to create, Lapis still wanted to work the Earth via farming, Amethyst still likes to roughhouse and fight, ect.

Lucas McInnis To be fair, Amethyst is also defective and was an exception among the gems we’ve seen for not being born with any base programming or set of directives, instead mindlessly copying everything she saw because she was, for all intensive purposes, a completely blank slate.

That is exactly what she was doing. Listen to the lyrics of her song love like you. She's literally saying im making steven because i kniw im a horrible person who cant change even if i try.
That's a nice thought, but I really don't think so. Greg even confirmed it, Steven was just meant to be their son, to be a human being. I'm pretty sure Rose thought that her deeds as Pink would stay buried and dead along with Pink. I think towards the end, when she was getting ready to become part of Steven (or even before when she first started wanting a child) she realized how bad she messed up and that realization lead her to not want her child to have to suffer the consequences for her actions. Sadly, she didn't foresee the events of the show.

Nice thought, but I am doubtful. The Diamonds were unreasonable. Pink had to go to extreme measures to garner their attention and keep it. Had the Diamonds known who Rose really was, who knows what the ramifications could have been at that time. They didn’t put much stake or respect in Pink’s decisions and didn’t take her seriously in any capacity. Pink wanted to leave it all behind when she became Rose, so the Diamonds are not included.
Spinel unfortunately wasn’t included either. Think of how gems in general are viewed. No individuality. They serve their purpose to their superiors. Pearl when rebooted gives common knowledge to Steven on who the gems are. She knew what a Spinel was for, implying that their are more than one Spinel, making Spinel not a unique gem species, but unique in her creation, Aka her perfect cut and color. Spinel was a forced friendship that was made to fill the void of Pink Pearl before her. Add to the fact that Spinel was incredibly problematic in helping Pink seem like a valued leader and less like an incompetent one, you can get a good idea on what would lead Pink to abandon Spinel and completely forget about her. It isn’t malicious, but rather ignorant. Inexcusable and cruel, but Pink is a child at that point, not having any foresight on the concept of consequences. That concept is taught to her when she visits Earth and realizes that life is dying because of what gem culture is doing to the planet.

Honestly a part of me is hoping that when Steven has to face "his own problems" in Future. Its him having to face the fact that he doesn't like who his mom was. Or mabye just dosent like his mom at all, and he'll have to accept that and realise that that's OK.

I don't think she had that many. Spinel said that Pink was lonely in the palace, probably meaning she got spinel after pink pearl was taken away. After Spinel she went to earth where she couldn't risk to be dustracted by playmates if she wanted to impres the Diamonds so I doubt she got any there. And the Diamonds specifically recognized Spinel as Pinks Playmate, I don't think they would recognice her specifically of Pink had many more playmates (based on how they wheren't able to recognice our Saphire becouse there are so many saphires). So I really think that Spinel was her only playmate. (I'm not counting Pink Pearl becouse Pink enjoyed entertaining Pink P. instead of the other way around)

As someone who’s lived some life I really relate to pink, I just see her as someone extremely maladjusted. When you know you haven’t been raised correctly but aren’t sure how to act you can make a lot of mistakes. Tbh I feel like pink sacrificed spinel to prove to herself and the other diamonds that she was no longer a child or so she wouldn’t be used against her.
I think that's the most likely explanation but also consider that Spinel was a Diamond sanctioned replacement for her actual friend 'Pink Pearl'. The relationship was unnatural and it makes sense Pink didn't value her much in the first place. It's hardly Spinel's fault though and she obviously didn't deserve to be treated that way.

I relate to PD also. I know I've done my share of mistakes, and thougth I try to be better, the people I've hurt can not be unhurt. But I'm not a gem, and I grow and learn from my mistakes. Maybe that's the point of PD. To be used as a mirror in wich we can see all our wrongs and move on from there.
C lloyd I also believed she abandoned Spinel because there has been evidence that she was Locke din a tower for hundreds of years, so it could’ve also been just how she was “raised”.

(Warning: BIG RANT.)And also the fact that they use gems as objects and literally architecture (the gems seen in the walls, comby), they squished a bunch of basically dead gems together to create a geo-weapon, and of course some other shards were used to make the other gem experiments, yea the diamonds did a lot of awful crap. I would have much rather had the “trying to change” character be redeemed than the damn-near space nazis. A lot of people are saying that pink diamonds abuse at their hands isn’t an excuse for what she did (which is valid), it’s crazy to me how a good group of people seem to be mostly ok with the other diamonds committing genocide and unlawful experimentation, and slam pink for being flawed. I am slightly downplaying her actions, she seriously hurt people, but most of them were unintentional, and the diamonds had every intention of hurting. Also, pink at least had a motive. You could also say that maybe blue and yellow also had motives. What motive did white have other than being a narcissist? Sorry, I needed to rant.
Love how we're gonna ignore the damage the other diamonds did. Cause everyone goes nuts when pink abandons Spinel. But then they're just like, "oh Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond shattered millions of gems? Well, Pink Diamond hurt a lot of people."

The thing is, we learn about Rose's development in reverse order. We see where she ended first, and see how she began last. That means all of her misdoings, look worse by comparison. She's very flawed, but I like her because of that. She started as a Petulant Child and tried to find a way to grow and change. She never intended to hurt those around her with malintent, it just happened. She tried to become more mother-like, more pensive, but she still had a lot of baggage. I think that's really cool in a character. They're clearly trying, but it just doesn't end up the way they think.
Also you thought about the fact that she couldn't return to Spinel anymore? Maybe she wanted to, but was unable due to the Rose Quartz spiel and then "dying", thus leaving her past behind.

Spinel is frankly annoying and Pink clearly outgrew her, even Steven was put off multiple times by her. She probably thought Spinel left, literally no one would expect her to stay there. She didn’t want to leave the diamond but they were literally abusive and wouldn’t listen to her. She was inspired by Garnet, and ofc she kept things from pearls, everyone has secrets, even I have things I haven’t told my best friend for over half my life. She was willing to give up her own life in order to create a better life that can be what she wish she was. If she didn’t disguise herself as Rose, the diamond would probably chase her to earth and White would try and control her anyways. Plus the gems couldn’t feel free if the rebellion they were in was lead by their oppressor. True she started a war and caused a lot of grief, but if she didn’t earth would be dead rn, and the diamond would’ve continued they’re rain of terror. Pink is not an evil or antagonistic character, she’s a complex character who’s every action can be looked at by a different lense and look completely different,

Pink is selfish and childlike, but rose I think is FAR more mature and tried her damndest to be selfless. Pink becoming Rose is her way of growing up

People act like Pink is a monster, but she's more human then she ever realized. People ignore a few key things about Pink. She herself stated gems don't change because she felt she couldn't. She was wrong about that, of course, but that's how she personally felt and you can tell she deeply regretted what she'd done and felt she could never go back. Another point to bring up is she COULD have just shattered Spinel for her pushiness and annoyance. Blue probably would have shattered her and yellow definitely would have. One might argue that her near endless isolation would be worse then death, but look how things turned out. Spinel got another chance at happiness and her isolation was largely self imposed. She could have given up on pink and left, but she didn't.
Another thing is Pink originally might have kept Spinel in the garden with the intend of leaving her behind and assuming she'd just find another purpose like all the other times. But with the war at hand, she likely kept her there, (if she was even still there to her knowledge,) to protect her. If Spinel had gone with Pink, she would have been turned into a gem mutant. Or shattered. And it doesn't help that Pink was babied and never really shown the right path through life. We point and accuse and blame Pink for her failings when she was near as much a child, mentally, as Spinel was. And don't even get me started on Spinel's involvement in her situation. Why is she more pitiable then Pearl or Garnet or Amethyst? Spinel was played with briefly and forgotten, but Pearl deeply loved her, Garnet hero worshiped her, and she was like a pseudo mother to Amethyst for a long time. They spent a lot more time with Pink and yet people instantly boo hoo for Spinel when she had the least to lose out of them.
And maybe Pink's influence wasn't that bad. Pearl nor Garnet nor Amethyst tried to destroy the world out of selfish, meaningless, revenge like Spinel did when Pink left them, despite having spent more time with her. They learned to value life.
As to Steven, people are mad at Pink for thrusting her mistakes onto him, but don't we humans do that in real life all the time? The way we destroy the environment, go to war, etc and then die and leave a mess for our children and their children to clean up? Pink was at her most human when she had Steven and passed off her mess to him. It's still not a good thing, to be sure, but it is a thing that we ourselves do.
Also, Gems are programmed with a purpose. Pearl was always loyal to Pink Diamond cause she was made to do that, Jaspar was still compelled to fight for Pink even though she became Yellow's, and Spinel was made to be Pink's best friend/plaything. Even Pearl in her song said "She'll being you endless entertainment". She was made as a toy, only to be abandoned/discarded. And once she found out her waiting was pointless, she snapped.

Pink couldn't go back even if she wanted too. Also take into account how Pink was raised. She was raised to believe that gems lower then her were lower then her and it's honestly a mercy she wasn't shatter happy. Rebecca actually stated Spinel was based off a stuffed rabbit she'd forgotten in the garden when she was a little kid and later rediscovered. Kids do it all the time. losing "toys" and not thinking a second thing about it till they rediscover it later.
@@biguattipoptropica Oh it definitely is abusive, but chances are you've done something someone could claim was abusive and never apologized for. We all have at one time or another because no being is perfect. That was part of the whole conflict between white diamond and steven. Perfection is impossible because one person's definition of perfection is different from another's. Pink was a childish brat, this can't be denied, but she had flaws that are equally reflected in us humans. Damning her so harshly is the pot calling the kettle black.

I remember in one episode where Greg is babysitting young sour cream she says she admires humans for their ability to change with a clearly wistful and desiring expression. She felt she couldn't change and only Steven could apologize for her.
@@biguattipoptropica I'm not trying to "excuse her" at all, she did do a lot of bad shite. Just trying to help you see it from her point of view and understand why she did what she did. She wasn't just a selfish monster, there were reasons behind her behavior and yeah it's easier to just look at it on a surface level and call her a monster, but the easier way isn't always the best way. Pink herself learned that when the "easier way" was to fake her own shattering.
To me she's was a child and just wanted a lot of things.
To me she finally seen what she did and hope that her son can fixed what she did to everyone a to say that she was sorry for what she did.

I've personally been on both sides of this, I've been a Pink and a victim of a Pink. Both suck. Realizing that you are toxic and working so hard to change that sucks and is hard, but 100% necessary. And realizing that someone you love is toxic and leaving to save yourself is just as hard. Both sides suck.
No matter how flawed Pink Diamond is, she still loved the Earth enough to protect it, let Pearl have her own personality and liberated a fusion relationship. This ain't a dis at you, it's a dis at the part of the fandom that believe she's 100% a terrible character.
I mean, there's still the whole forcing pearl into silence that did a number on her mental wellbeing. I'm not sure if pearl ever was her own gem. Even her desire to fight was in the name Rose quartz (which she sings in the extended intro) rather than her own reasons.

Everyone has flaws, it's good to know that even those we saw as pure or untouchable are humans that we an learn from or can learn from us. However, there comes a point were ones flaws don't mean they get a pass. Pinks flaws left many hurt, both physically and mentally. She has been shown to only care about herself and view other as a means to an end. She only comes to the realization that she has hurt someone when she can no longer avoid it (seeing Earth dying due to her colony or Greg snapping at her after she laughs at him) and by then the damage has been done. She refuses to own up to her mistakes and make right with others, opting to find easy ways out of less than favorable situations (silencing pearl, leaving spinel, faking her death).
I will agree with you, she is flawed, but the fact that she makes no effort to work on these flaws and become a better person shows that "Pink has flaws" can't be used to justify her cruel actions.
@@star22sally67 I'm not excusing her actions but it sounds like you think her protecting Earth is no big deal but you got to think about this scenario. If she didn't care to protect life on Earth, Earth wouldn't have any humans by this time. The fandom just only think about the impact on the gem's lives but not the humans and animals that exists because of Pink's willingness to protect it. Yes she screwed up quite a few times but that doesn't take away from the good and benefitual things she's done. The fandom hates Pink even though the rest of the Diamonds did far worst things than she did. Blue seems to do the most shattering, Yellow seems to force fuse gems into clusters more (look at her room when she had the crystal gems bubbled), and as for White (Look at Pink Pearl, that's worst then our Pearl being silenced the way she is).
@@idreadFell365 yes she protected Earth, only to leave it when she had the opportunity instead of sticking around and wrangling the last of the corrupted gems. She was also shown to view humans as entertainment to her rather than creatures to protect. She only deals with issues when she's forced to face them head on and even then, she deals with them in self serving ways (leaving the crystal jems and becomimg Rose quartz). As for the other Diamonds, I'm not saying that they are better but to put her as an exception just doesn't work. Also, while she did protect the humans and Earth, she did hurt many of her own kind. Their pain should be put above our own.

I think Pink knew how much of a flawed person she was and hated herself deep down for it, and also believed she'd never be able to grow past it. Just with that context it make a lot of sense why she wouldn't think twice about giving birth to Steven, at that point she might've even figured that her friends and the rest of the world would be better off without her.
Here's my theory about why Rose abandoned Spinel:
We don't really know if she abandoned her old Pearl, but Blue DID say "White will take away your Pearl". I thought about it over and over and I think Spinel and CG Pearl were given to her for some reason after White took Pink Pearl. It's probably because she was really unhappy about that and the Diamonds attempted to "fix" the situation by substituting her real best friend for a new one (much like Blue creating the human zoo after Rose said she wanted to preserve organic life). I think Spinel's abandonment was a response to Rose being forced to be friends with someone new while still thinking of Pink Pearl. Also, Spinel is kind of a toxic friend and has BPD traits. Although it's not her fault, it's clearly not easy to be around her.
But yeah it's just my theory. Rebecca Sugar said we'll find out more about Pink Pearl in SU Future.

Spinel was clingy and annoying, it's understandable Pink got annoyed with her but I don't think she abandoned her on purpose.
When she was still Pink, she would have been too busy with her colony to go visit, as we see the other Diamonds are during Diamond Days. As well as just wanting to seem more mature for the Diamonds by not being around someone so childish. Not only that, Spinel and Pearl were a replacement for Pink Pearl, a forced friendship will never last long. Now onto when she left Homeworld and became Rose.
She couldn't have gone back as Rose in risk of being caught and captured. Going back as Pink after her shattering or even before could lead to her identity as Rose Quartz being discovered. The warp pads being broken also prevented her from returning. Leaving Spinel there was the best decision, to protect her from the war. She most likely thought Spinel would leave or someone would recover her, I doubt she thought Spinel would stay there forever.

I still love Pink Diamond. Yeah, she did some really questionable stuff and some outright cruel things but overall, she was a good person. I know that doesn't excuse a majority of of her actions but it would be nice if people stop trying to paint her as an outright villain.
I really wish we can get some kind of special in which we can see a more detailed history of Pink Diamond, and see it from her perspective. We never know what she was really thinking or feeling. And that's why a lot of people are able to easily portray Pink as a heartless character who didn't care for Spinel or Pearl or others, when that's not true. Maybe Pink can never get a redemption like the antagonists, but I honestly think that if we can understand more of how she genuinely felt it might put some theories and/or ideas to rest.
I think it's interesting how you referred to Rose as self-centered and possessing traits that are forgivable in children. Like Rose, early Steven was way more self-centered, seeing adventures as a game (to the point at which he often brought toys along on missions). Eventually, Steven began to grow up - a "power" that Rose considered incredible. Perhaps Steven exemplifies what Rose could have been if she could grow up.

While I did feel sorry for Spinel, I was surprised by how angry people were at Pink, taking the "innocent baby" approach with Spinel. I actually related to Pink/Steven treating Spinel coldly more than I felt for Spinel. Pink probably never even asked for Spinel and was given her to simply shut up and stop bothering other Diamonds, yet another symbol of her being treated like a child. She was only nice to her as a necessity. You can see in the flashbacks she didn't have an honest bond with her. A whole 6000 years of not giving a sh*t were cruel, definitely, but I don't blame her for not wanting to take Spinel with her. I had an extremely clingy roommate at one point, and it was insanely draining and damaging to interact with her. I eventually moved out and soon enough she found a partner and started acting chill with people around her. I think this severed bond is what Spinel needed too.

Good work on the video. Even tho Pink did a lot of things that are inexcusable, I don't think she realized what sort of damage she had done to others internally and to her own son. One of her main flaws is that she doesn't understand how other people really feel about her and how much she impacted their lives enough to be really attached to her, as with examples of Greg, Pearl, and Spinel. Again, this doesn't excuse all of the bad things that happened because of her actions. She pretty much succumbed to the Diamond mindset of disregarding other peoples feelings, looking at them as lesser than her.
I think this is more about the danger of idolizing someone. Which is rampant in social media with entertainers, leaders, parents, guardians and "influencers". Pink has always been flawed and shes apart of the cycle but it hurts now because the movie put a spotlight on it. Pink's true nature has always been there. The blinders are just off now.

I see Rose Quartz as a failed hero. She truly wanted to save the Earth and its inhabitants, but her methods, and ideas behind those methods, led to everyone who knew her to suffer in some way.
I'm seeing very interesting points in the comments aside from the video itself. One that I'd like to point out is the fact that I believe Pink diamond started to mature after Greg tried to fuse with her. After that she started to have a healthy relationship with someone who saw a good person on her and helped her mature. I say this because in my eyes Pink is just a victim to her circumstances. The way she was treated by the diamonds, the way she was seeing by homewolrd, the status she was born with... And I not saying her actions were fine or anything, she made horrible things but I don't see bad intentions. That was what she was taught.
A thing that changed when Greg taught her otherwise.

Okay, I agree with nearly everything you said, but I don't understand _at all_ how you can blame her for White bleaching Pink Pearl. The diamonds constantly abused her, and then essentially killed someone very near to her just for what they considered acting out. When she faked her death, she believed Yellow, White, and Blue didn't love her. She felt she'd be free of them forever. It's like she answered when Greg asked if she ever missed her home planet; "No. Never."
I feel like the crewniverse has demonized pink diamond very well. So many people just jump to hate her. but we have to remember. most of the pink diamond scenes are not in earliest to latest. pink diamond grew over time. abandoning spinel was before she learnt how much others mean. when she arrived to earth and put herself down as rose quartz she realized how she was destroying life. she couldnt handle it and said she didnt want to finish colonizing. despite her attempts to convince the diamonds they ignored her. she was fascinated with organics and loved the way they grow and change. as a diamond she had no such privilege. diamonds are the most flawless of all the gems. she started a rebellion to try and make it known earth was not up for colonizing. even faked her own shattering. when she met greg she knew she wanted to be more. she wanted to know what it was like to be organic, so she sacrificed herself to steven. knowing no matter what the gems would care for him and help him grow. Pink diamond sacrificed everything to save everyone. and in the end steven managed to fight back against the diamonds. they had to cope with the change. that pink diamond couldnt be different. she was a diamond. but she did what not many gems would think of doing and defy logic by changing herself to such a great extent.
pink diamond is such a great character, in the sense that she is so terribly flawed. in the beginning, she is treated like a angel, who did everything right. but in the end, she was a childish person who so desperately wanted to be respected by the other diamonds. call her what you want, but she is way better than she used to be when she was a perfect being. so very great to analyze. imperfection.

I will say that Pink Diamond is probably one of the most confusing and hard to truly understand characters. I think that many of her instances of causing harm were unknowingly (i.e. when she found Greg trying to fuse with her funny) with some (like faking her death) being intentional to a degree (though in the case of her faked shattering, it was a last resort).
Pink like all gems couldn't escape role she was made for. Even as Rose gems were putting her pedestal. Something we see gems do with diamonds is to view them as if they were Goddesses.
What's kinda tragic Pink's wish to be different and more equal to gems she ruled made her more cruel then other daimons. Because Pink was giving gems hopes like to Pearl they will be always together on Earth. But because of her nature of diamond to put her wants and needs above other gems, Pink as Rose was fooling around with humans. Something I think pretty much was torture to Pearl.
Those hopes Rose give gems and humans in her life were made false. Because no matter how much she wanted. She couldn't escape being a diamond.

Honestly, I don't believe that she meant to do the things that she has done. She was trying her best to things better but in her own way. As a diamond, she was constantly told that she was wrong, not good enough, sent to the tower to be alone and was crying either at the hands of the diamonds or the pain from deep inside. Because of that, like a child learning and experiencing things from grown-ups, they repeated their actions on Spinel; trying to be a grown-up diamond with her first colony and leaving Spinel. On the other hand, I don't believe she meant to do that or hurt others because she's still developing and dealing with the war at hand. It's hard to think and remember things when you're fighting and planning things ahead.
You know no matter how bad people say how bad pink was. She still is a saint compared to the others. I don't get why she is suddenly the worst character on a show when the other diamonds are clearly worse then her.

Individuals who suffer from abuse will often become abusers themselves. I am in no way justifying abuse, but that is often what happens especially without proper treatment to recover from abuse. This could be another reason for Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond's behaviors.

Wish people would cut her some slack, I see fans dote over and easily forgive the other diamonds, they started the cycle and the system pink eventually saw thru, hated ,and rebelled against. Yes she was a spoiled wannabe tyrant only looking up to the other diamonds. And while being hurt, she hurt others. But finally having sometime on earth she changed and wanted to change. Thus Rose Quartz was born. She isnt perfect but she sure as hell deserves better than "pd is a awful person" She made Steven.💜 oddly she reminds me of my mother, she was awful,messes up, but she still is pretty great

But she would need help.

I can’t hate Pink Diamond like some people have after the movie. She used to be my favorite and one of the most relatable for me besides Steven and Lapis up until her dirty laundry came to light. She is such a unique character that shaped the show into what it is now. Although she did very terrible things, some of her decisions caused great things to happen. The Earth is still alive and teeming with life, gems are free and no longer subjugated, colonies will no longer destroy planets thanks to Pink forming the crystal gems and giving birth to Steven. Given who her family is she could’ve been a lot worse, but she also could’ve done better. But the only things that bother me is (just like the video said). She’s gone. She can’t fix her mistakes, or be redeemed, or be taught better. The Diamonds have eliminated life on many planets, brainwashed and shattered other gems for stepping out of their line, they even hurt each other snd drove Pink away. I believe that if the remaining Diamonds could be forgiven and everyone could move on, then Pink can be forgiven. Although some characters still suffer from her secrets and choices (Jasper) other characters have grown and moved on thanks to Steven even though he’s not obligated to fix any of Pink’s mistakes.

Welcome to abandonment the character. We have all slowly been dropping our opinion of rose but spinel was the straw that broke the fandom's back.
As far as it goes with Spinel, she was just supposed to be a toy to Pink. She was probably given to Pink after losing pink pearl, and she may have fallen into depression. In order to snap her out of it and get her back to "normal" the other diamonds gave her Spinel, a goofy gem who did nothing but fool around because that's what they thought Pink Diamond was all about.
In the flashbacks from the movie where you see Pink interact with Spinel you can see that at first she was cheered up, but eventually the glamor of a new play thing ended. There's only so many games they could have played, she must have been getting bored, and Spinel doesn't seem like the type to think outside the box like Pink does. The sad look she gets while trying to seem happy doesn't strike me as someone who's sad because she's not getting what she wants (a colony). We've seen what that looks like for her, it's anger, it's throwing a tantrum. I really believe for a time she probably dropped the subject all together. I think the sadness over pink pearl was creeping in again and Spinel could no longer keep Pink happy or entertained.
Seeing this, the Diamonds panicked and finally gifted her a colony, hoping a busy mind would get her thoughts off of it. That's a lot like advise depressed people get, just go do something and keep your mind busy so you don't even notice you're feeling sad. Also the Diamonds kinda suck with showing comfort, so their way of appeasing her was to keep giving her things, kinda like a distant parent who buys you expensive toys to make up for lack of affection.
Hearing this Pink's attention is grabbed right away, she probably knows the Diamonds are still hesitant and this is kind of like a trial run so she needs to keep the best behavior up. She internalized that time Yellow told her to "act" like a diamond and she knows she has been given a responsibility so she has to stop acting childish. Even if it's in her nature, you can kind of see in the call she has with Blue and Yellow where they tell her the news that she is worried about them seeing Spinel. It's the kind of reaction someone would have for having an embarrassing friend who doesn't realize they're embarrassing. She's trying to seem mature now so they don't take this opportunity away and change their mind about this chance.
Then she tries to go to the transport and Spinel keeps wanting to play and Pink has to make the choice to put that part of her life aside so she can step up and be a leader, and grow up like she always wanted. She couldn't bring Spinel with her because it would only be a distraction and seem immature to the Diamonds. It would be like bringing a stuffed toy to college or a job, think of it like Toy Story 3, you can argue that at this point in time Pink still thought of other gems as lesser than her and really thought of them as toys. To her, this was just leaving her childhood room and playthings behind to focus on being an adult. Now I'm not saying any of this like it's an excuse of what she put Spinel through, but just an explanation.
After this went down Pink was always busy from that point on. First she was controlling the colonization of Earth from the moonbase (needed to look serious, couldn't bring Spinel), realizing she loved the planet and staging a war (she tried appeasing the Diamonds first through negotiations before the war and they STILL weren't treating her like an equal, if she went and picked up Spinel that would only further prove she was childish in the Diamond's eyes), then after she was shattered she wouldn't have much opportunity, not only because she reformed into Rose and couldn't show up as Pink in the garden or she'd be discovered, and yeah maybe she could have filled Spinel in or taken her by force but maybe it was kind of like how Pearl couldn't physically speak about the shattering, maybe Spinel would be forced to physically stay there until Pink herself released her.
But even if they could get through to her, maybe they just didn't have the time, after all Pearl even said they didn't have the time to save the Zoomans, and it seemed like that was something they had planned. That proves that there was many things they had wanted to do that they couldn't maybe because of the corruption light/song as it's not stated exactly how much time after the shattering the other Diamonds did that. And then after that, to keep the Diamonds from coming back and doing further damage, and with all the chaos of being surrounded by their zombified friends, they broke all the teleports on Earth to isolate themselves and Pink never got a chance to go back to Spinel.
There's just too many unknowns about the situation, again not saying it's ok, but just a little bit understandable. The one thing that bugs me is why Blue never found Spinel in 6000 ears? She kept visiting the zoo as being "one of Pink's last treasures" but never visited other sites important to her? It seems like Blue was constantly visiting there too so how come she never even went to the garden once, that would have actually made more sense.
I feel like ultimately she understood that she didn’t understand or comprehend her actions like others. The ending song that is sung from her perspective talks about her feelings toward Steven and who he is and despite the fact that she did wrong she wanted to be better.
I still have to stand with my concept of Pink did what she thought was the best. Up to this point if a gem lost meaning to there diamond they were simply shattered. So by abandoning Spinel she was saving her from a much crueler fate in her eyes. Was it right? No, could she have done something else? we don't know, this is the corse of events that took place in this timeline.
I have had so many pink diamonds in my life it's not even funny. I can't tell you how many times that I've been ghosted after we have been friends for years.
What Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz whatever you wanna call her was such Complex Person and what she did to Spinel was Cruel and Pink went the wrong way about it just Abandoning Spinel in the Garden for 6,000 Years. Pink could of gone about this a different way Pink could of had a talk with Spinel that they can’t play all the time because she had a Colony to focus on now and I think Spinel would of respected Pinks wishes and if they came to a understanding they could of been Good Friends even Best Friends and Pink wouldn’t of Abandoned her and instead took Spinel with her to work on her Colony with her but Pink never spoke to Spinel about it and just Abandoned her to get rid of her when all Spinel wanted to be was Pink Diamond’s Friend and help her if Pink just did that instead Spinel wouldn’t have all these life long Abandonment Issues and hurt now. Sadly Pink has hurt so many people to many to count and probably even more that we don’t even know of and she clearly lacks a level of Empathy and that’s strange to me given the fact that she had Empathetic Powers and you would think with those Powers she would of been able to understand the feelings of other people more and not hurt them as much as she did. I know this gonna sound weird but I can’t bring myself to fully hate Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz cause I like to try to see the good in people and she has done some Good in her life but she sadly has caused a lot more Bad so I have conflicting feelings about her she wasn’t a Bad person but wasn’t a Good person at the same time Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz she wasn’t perfect.
I still don't see her as a bad person. Flawed yes, but she tried to better herself and I think that's good enough for me.
Pink Diamond is that one person that once she’s there people tend to disregard at first but, once she leaves her actions and words are finally noticed. Some of the people I met in my life are like PD due to me always focusing on the past years later

I really do believe she realized that she herself could not fix or be capable of changing for the better. It doesn’t make sense to me that a character like Pink would relinquish her life without a greater purpose. To be, Steven is himself, but he’s also more or less a reincarnation of Pink. Pink became Steven to give her all she needed. Steven was born into a loving family. Was raised to respect and empathize with everyone. Pink and Steven likely have the same personality at their core, but Pink did not have the background and love needed to become a selfless, great person. That’s my interpretation anyway.
Yeah Steven was born into a better place and Pink didn't have that luxury unfortunately and it affected a lot of their choices in life.
Her intentions were good but she didn’t take other peoples consideration into account. So she would do what she feels is good for her and leave the mess behind.

For all pink diamond haters, Pink was the gay diamond, she was different and only want to be herself, her pink pearl was her friend who was taken by White as a punishment for being herself, We still don't know if Pink really broke Pink pearls eye, Pink diamond was abused and the ways of living in home world was torture for her, She loved the beauty of Earth and saved human kinds, sure she made a huge making the war, but if she didn't, she would probably locked in the Tower in home world, She wanted a place for her and gems like her who wants to be free. Sure she could have handle things better, but remember she's comes from a tragic past with childish personality, Pink diamond didn't hurt Pearl as you said, just go watch now we are falling a part, Pearl literally throw herself on Pink, Pink diamond and Pearl relationship are like the first relationship you enter, 90% of the time won't work, and Pink diamond only fake shattered herself because of Bismuth, She was usually following the gems around her as Sapphire said, She locked Bismuth because She was afraid for her safety and her fellow diamonds, I'm sure she still cared for them, and sure that was bad, but didn't the crystal gems do the same thing with Lapis?
