In this month's Dean Park Update I show off the new retaining wall and share progress of it's installed on the layout. Is it the Great Wall of Dean Park 2?
I also show off the latest Hornby APT with all its improvements. However is it worth the asking price? I also add some excellent detailing items to a MK1 Coach along with some West Hill Wagon Works detailing items. Accurascale's FNA-D Nuclear flak carrier wagon is reviewed as well! If you want to find out more about the items I have covered in this video, click on the following links.

Tomorrow mornings breakfast viewing sorted 👍
thanks for your reply Dave.......love all your videos
Spot on as usual.........👏👏
good to see a improvement in the Hornby APT as well as seeing your improvement on that incline.
I’m tempted to sell mine off or just get the new release since I’m rather disappointed in mine
Great video Dave. Love the work on the incline and eagerly awaiting the finished product later in the year. Just shows whatever scale you work in, time taken and accuracy are the two most important aspects of work like this. Thanks for the update. Cheers, Bob
It’s certainly taken a bit of time to get to this stage and a lot of work still to do. But it’s all good fun. :-)
Liking the new addition of ‘Dean Park Detailing’ 👍
Good!
Great update Dave!!! Awesome trainset this APT! Many thanks for sharing this video! Cheers Onno.
Thank Dave, great work on your new retaining wall and the detailing items. Mike HO from Australia.
The accurascale fna-d does look nice. Too modern for me, though I do have drs 68s... the improvements in the apt are also good. Hopefully they keep improving other recent models and fixing the flaws on some.
great video
Another great update Dave as always
Great Stuff Dave
Great to see the new revised APT (2nd draft) featured. Been holding off getting one to see what (if any) improvements there were. Thanks for covering it.
Absolutely love the layout. Grew up always wanting to nip through to Glasgow in case it showed up at Central.
Boy I wish you could help me build a layout like this here in Las Vegas, it's an inspiration. Hoping next time I'm home in Edinburgh that I'll be able to see your setup in person somewhere.
Ace video.
I just got my 7 car set today. It looks good. I do think that if they had provided 2 powered NDM's it would make a super good train. I still like it though. Just had to have an APT.
Across the entire layout so far, the retaining walls are one of my favourit aspects, most excellent work! I pray to the Gods of modelling that there will one day be an N gauge APT. (It might, however, be smarter to contact Dapol and Grafar.) I also wonder how trains will be involved when humanity switches from fission to fusion in the realms of nuclear power...The Chinese have found Helium 3 on the Moon , but that's a little far for loco-haulage methinks. I see a gap in the market for an Advanced Moon Train...but that' for a separate video! Respects...Cap-com out.
Hi, I do like retaining walls 😆…I’ve a few feet of them! Cheers. Dave
I'd be surprised if hornby doesn't offer a apt in their tt120 range at some point.
I expect someone will do a n gauge one at some point, perhaps pestering revolution may work? It'd go nicely beside their pendolino in a traction history point of view.
Brilliant update, dave. I'm looking forward to seeing how that incline develops in the future, especially if you are going to install the overhead gantries and the embankment. Them accurascale wagons do look Brilliant. Take care, my friend.
Great overall update here Dave, nice to see a more in depth overview of the accurascale nuclear flask wagons, as I originally said on your rapid review they are wagons that I may look into in the future, some excellent work overall on the layout, keep up the great work, nice to also see the various improvements that have been made to the APT, must admit while,I do have one of the original 1980s sets i may look into getting the new hornby version.
I know you're a stickler for details so it would be great to see the red and white chequered limited clearance signs at the start of tunnels or bridges. Sometimes you get blue and white if there is clearance on the other side. Basically anywhere where there is no position of safety along the length of a structure for a railway worker to stand if a train approaches.
Yeah I’ll be adding them :-) cheers. Dave
@@DeanPark BRO, don't insult me my name is not DAVE, OK!
I have two packs of the FNA-D wagons which I got to say they are my favourite wagons, I was put off getting the APT model as I know they sometimes go on sale for cheaper but it is expensive model and I do like West Hill Wagon Works things as I am going to get some of the station kit they recently released.
Great video as well and take care
Thank you for another informative and interesting video, it's nice to see things develop on your layout. I completely agree with your statement about Hornby, quality lacking and maybe they are rushing models out before they are ready to recoup some of the development costs? Let's hope Hornby improve under the new management.
Great update as usual, only minor thing I'd say about the detailing in the wheelbarrows is the handles are normally plastic or some kind of rubber and therefore would be a different stand out colour but I'm just being picky. Cheers for now 😊
Those flashing red tail lights look really good as they disappear into the tunnels 👍👍 I like the APT but not enough to pay that price.
Yes the apt isn’t cheap. I won’t be buying another…don’t need another!
I agree with you in regards to the Accurascale wagons.
I actually typed a more comprehensive reply to your review of these wagons but I am being censored by RUclips for whatever inexplicable reason, really can't stand YT.
Excellent video.
Cheers. Really? That sounds bizarre!
@@DeanPark Yes it was and have a feeling mentioning the word 'flask' or 'fragility' may be the issue which is ridiculous considering the context for which I wrote.
Good opening shot of Flying Scotsman. The Accurascale flask wagons look great value for money, a 70's version is what I would really want but I am tempted to get a couple of these. I have some Bachmann ones that I have been quite happy with but seeing how much more detail and the added weight of these makes them worth considering, as for the APT I am not sure I will buy one of those after spending so much on the first release for something that has never run. I wonder if the power car is now improved enough to run without derailing in a full train, it is too much to pay for a new train just to find out. The APT is the only train that will not run so although my track is not perfect it is not as if my layout is so bad I have problems with other trains all the time. 3D printing is very good now. I got a few things in Glasgow and like the DMU trolley and water hydrant you show. Good to see the heat did not affect the layout it must of been roasting up in the loft. When it gets up to 32 in my room I get a short on the layout. I am unable to find what causes it and wondering if it is actually the Roco unit that overheats because you can re set it straight away.
Great video as always Dave!, as for the Accurascale FNA-D's, im surprised they didn't look at a screw in solution for the hoods, magnets did occur to me as well until i realised they might interfere with the tail lamp.
Otherwise i fairly small observation on what appears to be a stunning wagon, i shall be ordering a pair next week :)
Click on my link on the description for that order if you wish. Thanks. :-)
Excellent work. I’m going watch this all later on 😊
Thanks 🙏
Those walls look really good Dave. The acurascale flasks are great but I’ll be sticking with my Bachman one. Great update as usual
Bachmann don’t make this FNA-D so there isn’t a comparison

Hi Dave unfortunately I am in Antrln hospital at the moment I do like the new Apt iñ do have the 2o22 model of the Apt great video mate
Great video as always. Having watched your Chanel for
Many years it always amazes me how much space you have. I’m still not totally sure of the plan of your layout!! 😂
Keep seeing those nuclear wagons and really want a set. I should really pay for my class 66 pre order but a little voice and countless videos of those wagons keep trying to tell me to order those instead……!!!!
I would just like to say I hold you responsible for the financial peril I’m now in 😂 I should have paid for my Class 66 Pre Order. However having seen 2 of your FNA-D nuclear flask videos I’ve now bought a set of those instead!! They certainly look worth it 👌. The Class 66 isn’t due out until Q1 2024 🫣😬🤞
Haha. They are lovely wagons. You’ll get your 66 next year :-)
Nice opening shot Dave. My brother in law was going to do likewise at Morpeth but a (so called) friend called round for a cuppa as he was heading out the door! He was raging!!!
Haha. I would have told said friend that he was out of luck and I was heading out for something more important than a cup of coffee! Lol.
I LOVE the APT. Just getting into modelling myself (not making a model of myself, that is- a few spotters may find there way on to my layout!) and was wondering how you got the profile pic- was it custom? Dean park detailing would be an amazing series.
Have you started modelling from 2014 onwards? Always enjoy watching your videos.
Hi. No. I just bought these to see what they were like. They will end up running on my mates layout that is set in the current day. I’m still the 1980’s era…plus I have rolling stock to do a 2019 running session, with LNER class 91’s, HST’s and an Azuma. I can’t resist the LNER livery :-)
Really appreciate you watching my videos. Great to hear you enjoy watching.
Regarding the FNA-D. Accurascale have modelled the sun shade prototypically, where it would slide back to reveal the flask. So the bulk head wall which forms part of the sunshade with catches is accurate. It might be fiddly but maybe allows for the shade to be modelled in the open position for when a flask is been loaded is desired? Also offering access to the batteries.
It looks a better model than the Bachmann FNA, which is expensive for what you get in my personal opinion.
Sadly the Accurascale FNA-D is too modern for my era, so don’t have example to comment from direct experience of the model. For area and era I model around York, they weren’t a common sight in the late 80s and into 90s prior to privatisation.
Yeah I can see when they have the separate white sections, to allow for a sliding open position. But the clips are too fiddly as it is.
exactly that. everyone expects everything to be detailed and scale accurate but also usable
like lego. seems a manufacturer can’t win lol
Great work as ever Dave, and Steven at Scoonie Hobbies will be delighted that you're helping him get enough funds for that holiday home in Southport! Seriously though, whilst I won't be running the APT on my layout, I was wondering, has the new one free of the Hornby "disease" that affected some of their models in 2021/2, that of light bleed?
Thankfully, the Hornby Apt was never one of those light bleed products.
Hi, You mention version 2 of the APT coach lighting has smaller but more powerful capacitor, but do you know what the tech specs are? I was hoping to replace my capators on my first version coaches to see if might improve the siutation as mine go out instantly too. The old one used a 25v 1000uf capacitor I believe. Thanks.
Great running...like the backdrop...expensive hobby
Thanks. Expensive…oh it sure is :-(
Use the retaining walls for the OHLE.
Hi….the walls are too far away from the rail edge for it. I had looked into this. :-)
HI Dean love your videos. I was wondering what the words "Not to be Sheeted" on the FNA wagons meant. Thanks
Have you ever thought of using working Kadee #17, 18 or 19 buckeye couplings for your carriages?
Hi. I have considered Kadee yes. For locos to the first carriage.
Another very informative video Dave!
Which DCC Sound decoders did you go with in the end for the Hornby Class 91 and also the Dublo Flying Scotsman?
Thanks for the update on the Hornby APT - I have the full 14 car set from the first batch, and you have me thinking about those revised versions...
Hi. Roads and rails sound in the 91. I don’t have sound in the dublo Scotsman. As th regular a3 sound decoder files don’t work well with the dublo. Cause running issues.
@@DeanPark Thanks Dave. I will have a look for a suitable decoder for the A3.. Cheers
Hi Dave, Appleby Linc's here, you did a video clip along time ago about you building your version of Waverly Gardens, please can you send me a linc to it has i need to get some trees & i liked the one's you got, many thanks.
I think the videos were around the end of 2021. But the trees I use are from primo trees, the model tree shop and also I make my own from sea foam and Gaugemaster leaf scatter glued on to the Sean foam.
Layout looking good. The APT looks good the capacitor do the job this time the 1st lot were a waste of space😂Do you know what value they are?
Cheers. I’ve no idea the value of them. But at least they work this time 😆
Sounds like the 2020 APT release was a rush job, ie, wanted the product out as soon as possible.
Yeah that’s very much what I think too.
Hi Dave, looking at your videos can i ask you " where did you buy all your backscenes for Dean Park"?? Thanks Ken
Hi, these are from ID BACKSCENES. They are self adhesive. But you get paper/card versions too.
Thanks for that Dave...Ken@@DeanPark
In regards to the apt. When you say first and 2nd release are you referring to the old original apt or 2 versions of the new release . Thanks. .
Two versions of the new release. As I said, the 2021 version and the 2023 ‘improved’ version. Cheers
@@DeanPark thank you. Must have missed the years.
ahh thought the walls was 3d printed nice work
Oh no….lol. These are too big to be 3D printed. Well…in one piece 😆
Hi Dave what lighting did you use in dean park station
The station…DCC concepts station lights. These are now distributed under the gaugemaster brand. Excellent lights.
not many will know what a white roof on a steam loco signifies nowadays
Hi. I've just put a video about the transport of nuclear flasks around Chernobyl on my channel.
Darrenbury Central Hi like ret wall v good. The station i really like. How about some lines men . Tatty Bi
I think this video should be number 330, not 229!
Oh thanks, didn’t noticed that. I’ve updated it.
FNA Wagons. The battery is awful. Pickups and a stay alive capacitor would be better.
Might cost more though? mind you at £30 odd they are remarkably good value for money
Great video will have you snoring in minutes 😴
I’m pleased that I can relax you to that point 😝
