I got an as built class 20 of the new batch of Bachmann models it’s a beauty semi gloss green silver buffers as if it just left the Vulcan foundry it’s glides along and looks great even running with my rail freight 37 😊 Cheers Dave Mark 😊😊
Pleasant and enjoyable video to watch Dave. Thanks for covering this variety of subjects. Those Class 20s look superb but really need a smoke generator fitting. A plume of (diesel) smoke on start-up would be the icing on the cake.
I used to just put down plaster bandage before anything else on the layout needed working on, I paint over the mess anyway. But I did always struggle with plastering when there already was detail in situ- duly noted to cut it into shape beforehand next time. It was also absolutely lovely bumping into you at Aviemore- Here's hoping the next time 60103's driver finds his brake in time!
Yes, cutting into shape does help when trying to work it around other stuff that’s fixed down. Was very nice to chat at Aviemore. I hope you enjoyed your trip. You got the best weather to enjoy the scenery. I don’t think that driver will be back on the footplate of FS again lol.
Could be my PC speakers but I think the grey 20 sound is better. Years ago they did a tablet catcher version and I thought I read they were bringing one of the new ones out like that but no sign of that now. Sorry you missed out on Flying Scotsman, at least your trip was not from Amsterdam. I saw FlyingScott had. The locomotive has been cleared fit to run on the main again and will do it's scheduled tours so hopefully you can get to see her before she heads back down to he NRM.
They took her out of service and the inspection on the Monday cleared her. Could the staff at aviemore not have been allowed to do that inspection straight after the shunt and send video and photographic evidence to the NRM to confirm that it was ok!??? I feel it was an over reaction as we now are used to in this risk averse health and safety world.
@@DeanPark Everything is a major incident these days. I know it was a hard shunt but think like you they could of carried out an initial investigation. Also NRM staff go with the locomotive so there was someone there who was surely able to check over her. On holiday years ago I saw an 08 in Inverness collide heavily with the rear of the train I had got off while removing a GUV off the rear. The driver injured his nose hitting the control panel, the van leapt in the air and landed down in a ball of rust which is on a photo I took. They looked at the van and 08 and carried on after the driver had said he was OK. This incident was reported to the RAIB who said they would not need to inspect the locomotive themselves so it was nothing to do with them that she was locked away out of sight on your visit
I drove past there on Friday 29 Sept. on a return day trip from Fort William to Balmoral Castle and have to say the Cairngorms National Park is truly stunning, this was off the back of a 8 day holiday throughout Scotland with my family and we absolutely loved it!...need to go visit Strathspey Railway next time, at least we did the Jacobite.
Great video. I think the accurascale "privitisation" 37 cab figures look better than those you reviewed (i have these an they are quite nice). Its probably because they are wearing orange health and safety vests and they 3d print better than the all blue of the old uniforms. Although those on their web site look a lot more consistently blue than those you received.
Hi, that’s interesting. They are decent figures, when I film it’s under a light, so perhaps this Highlights the speckle finish more. In around 3-5 years the quality of these prints will be even better.
From the filming it looks like Bachmann have changed the leading lights on the class 20 from yellow as the first new tooled BR blue liveried one was fitted to warm white LED's as per the Bachmann class 24.
Hi Dave that speckled finish is usually caused by varnish finish, if you give them another spray with some varnish this usually gets rid of the speckling. David
Hi Dave. You’re absolutely right concerning the 20’s Call it overkill, but I have 15 Bachmann Class 20’s they brought out in the DRS livery. Why ? Because like us all, I waited an eternity for these to be released, and once I got 312 in compass, & 306 with the original decals I was blown away with them. They are superb. My layout is obviously DRS based, and they had 15 of these, and I just had to have all 15, renumbered obviously ! Weathered in various states as they were towards the end, they look great Sound has been added to some, but don’t you find they drive you bonkers after a while 😄 Your latest update is great as usual, iv’e used some plaster cloth in my time, and the Aviemore piece you did was great, I really need to get back up there sooner rather than later ! Incidentally, I purchased a couple of Accurascale DRS Class 37’s after you reviewed them in one of your last updates They are incredible, and I believe Accurascale have taken RTR loco’s to another level, especially taking into account as you said in this update, the staggering cost increase of Bachmann’s equivalent Keep the updates coming, they are superb and I look forward to each one
Looking good. Why not include a couple of clips of trains running through the section you've been working on, after the months work is done, to give us more of an idea of how it will look when done, and how it fits in with the rest of the layout? I need a 2nd bachmann 20, although I'll go for an older tooling headcode disc one in blue, preferably with the engineers marking as per the weathered one here, so it both matches the 20217 I already have in terms of finish, but compliments it with having the other type of end. Very nice to see Bon Accord with the Palvan there, and I love the Ivatt 2s
Some people hate the RUclips library music, some people like it lol. It’s hard to find music that isn’t awful. I like the music, saves me having to talk all the time, when there is nothing really worth saying!
I noticed that you got the woodland Scenic T pins I found a package of 200 pins for less than the price of the Woodland Scenic ones to let the people with a budget to get them
First of all hope you enjoyed your trip out, some great shots captured, pity you couldn’t get onto Scotsman but hopefully the locomotive is fine and she will be out running again soon, I would still like to catch her during her 100th anniversary. Layout overall is looking great and good to see more progress being done on it, keep up the great work. I need to get a couple, of class 20 into my fleet at some point, more specifically I am looking at getting the new tool railfreignt ones which I do think bachmann have released 2 versions in that livery in their new tool suite of these models now, they are overall great looking models and when I get a couple of them I would be up for running them as a double so would like ones in the same livery. Those accurascale figures are alright in my opinion, I would be up for trying some out and seeing if they can be used in other manufacturers locomotives, an overall great update here Dave, keep up the great work.
Cheers. Glad you enjoyed watching. The 20’s are great models. Bachmann have really sone the real locos justice with this model. If you do go for the accurascale figures, I’d be really grateful if you use the link in the description, if you want of course. 🙏 😊
You’ve certainly got a great layout of Dean Park!! You’ve got some wonderful scenery, including the back scene!! As a steam locomotive fanatic, I would love to see a heritage train go on your layout. Any chance?
Hi, thanks for those kind words. I’ve got a model of Flying Scotsman and Union of South Africa and will add to that in the future. I often have Scotsman or union on a rail tour with some maroon coaches. Every layout needs a bit of steam :-)
I can set up consists on the esu ecos I have. Most controllers will have this function. But it’s helpful if both locos are from the same manufacturer and are the same class of loco. That helps running them together a lot easier as they share the same motors, gear boxes etc.
Another great update Dave. Shame that you and the Scoonie lads missed out on Scotsman at Aviemore. Re the Accurascale crew I was wondering if you’d tried fitting them into one of the newest Bachmann 37s? I’ve got Radio Highland & Loch Lomond which could really do with crew. These figures might be the answer as sourcing painted crew figures doesn’t seem so easy as it once was.
Hi Andy, If bachmann cab seats are true to scale, as I’d expect they are, they will fit without an issue. I’d recommend adding them to your models even with their slight speckled finish…as you dont see that when they are in the cab. If you do order anything from accurascale, can I kindly ask you click on my link in the description of the video? :-) cheers. Dave
Great video as always, was great to see the updates. As someone who is the owner of a single Class 20 (Railfreight Grey previous tooling) and at some point is going to add a second, is it worth buying the new tooling or going for the previous and probably now slightly cheaper version?? Also the updated speakers make a big difference always thought mine was slightly quiet 👍
The new one is a step up in terms of bogies and the electronics. Why not get the new one, with lights…then you can have that one leading in a double headed train, so the trailing one wouldn’t have lights on it anyway!
@@DeanPark I’ll see how the budget runs on through the year I might treat myself 👌. If you have a spare 26 seconds I’d love you to view my short of Accurascale 37043. Tell me what you think 🤔
Thanks for another great video. I wonder what is the reason for the signal at 36:53 being “off” for a train in the opposite direction. Maybe it is a precious prototype for modellers who dont have operating signals!
Hi, the off signal is for a situation where the guard/dispatcher at the end of the train doesn’t have a sight of the signal at the opposite end of the station. If it’s ‘off’ that means the signal is green. When the train is in the other direction it can be switched off.
@@DeanPark Bit of a mis understanding here Dave. mikeryan959 is asking about the semaphore signal for the opposite direction being clear or 'OFF' as it is known. The reason is when a signalbox is closed or switched out the signals for both directions are released by the locking so trains can run under clear signals in both directions on a single line. It is in effect as if the signals belonging to that box do not exist and the release transferred to the next box that is open.
