2002’s have always been underrated regarding their versatility in my books. I just finished mixing a concert that was a singer/pianist, drummer and symphony, where the 2002’s fit in perfectly with the tonality of the symphony.

Thanks for your typical, thorough review! Like sharing how the 2002 are not just a great rock cymbal set, it’s qualities lends itself to a myriad of styles. In so many other reviews I’ve seen them mostly in a rock setting, not a jazz cafe or similar situation. Thanks for that insight.

I believe Max Roach use to use the 2002 series when he played Paiste for a little bit.

Paiste cymbals, especially the 2002 series, are the perfect cymbals to me. I don’t wish to play any other brand. I’d love an endorsement deal with Paiste.

    Great review!
They sound like "home" to me.
I switched to signatures a couple years ago. There are times I miss the brilliance, and higher pitch of the 2002, or 2000.

I love mine. I have almost the same setup except a 22" ride with an additional 10" splash they don't make anymore. The BEST part is I got all of them back in the mid 90s for $250 US. My friend wanted to buy all new cymbals of a different manufacture and he asked me if I wanted to buy them. I said would $250 work and he said sure :)

Playing in the orchestra pits for several weeks in a row, my drumset stayed in one place. The first week's I used Sabian AA.
After the third week I brought my 2002 and went through a regular soundcheck.
This sound engineer came down to me later and thought I had a whole different drum set. He had to see for himself what was different.
    I love 2002 crashes......
I don't use the word love often.

  • @ZeBubba
    @ZeBubba 3 года назад +11

Quality tones! The ride sounded a bit small and "crashy", I might like a 22" more. Also the 16" crash sounded almost like a big splash cymbal, good tone there too tho. I liked the hats and 18" very much. Cheers for a nice demo!

I was thinking the same about the 16", more splashy than a crash.

I purchased a 22" Paiste 2002 Power Ride in the late 80's. It's quite heavy with a huge bell that's outstandingly clear. It's my go-to ride for higher volume gigs.

Been playing for 37 years. Started with Sabian then switched to Paiste. Then went with Zildjian. Loved the tones of the Paistes but unfortunately they cracked the soonest of them all. And they weren't straight and I never had them tightened down. Love the 2002 sound though.

in general the 2002 are thinner than other brands but that helps their shimmering sound.
I like the heavy hats and ride but with classic crashes.

I got the Rock set for my son as a gift. They are an awesome value in my opinion! I used his hats yesterday in place of my 2002s to try them out. They actually seemed more crispy and articulate than my 2002s. The 2002s seem more full sounding however, better sizzle and more complex sound. In any event, I love pst7!!
