@@LongWayHome the shift cam probably helps. All the bikes are running so lean now. I think the 800 ktm twin does well to still make 105ps and still meet EURO 5
What really would help, if city planners would go for a traffic light system that actually allows the traffic to flow properly. But noooo, it would cost them money, so let's force the manufacturers to pay more...
Governments won’t talk about the pollution from container ships or jumbo jets because that would have an effect on their economy. But they’ll tax the fuck out of their own people...
I wonder if Honda will bring back the EXP-2 of 1995 Dakar notoriety to keep two-stroke engines alive with EURO-5? If they do, it will have been a long time coming, but I, for one, hope that it can meet the standards... I also wish that the MMIC would standardize the OBD for motorcycles with the OBD2 that is already in other cars and light trucks... (since 1996) - this would mean one standard port, which has already been in use for 25 years... E-5 will not mean the death of the bike as we know it, the majority of Japanese cruisers have been liquid-cooled for quite some years now. Big Singles are the tough one, but many manufacturers have already seen the ghost on the horizon and are moving to twins of the same displacement... ie: KLR650 replacement is the Versys650 with the parallel twin (not an exact replacement, but reflecting the actual use of newer models of the KLR - less dirt and more street/highway. The dropping of the Hayabusa by Suzuki really isn't a surprise, many of us long-time riders have been expecting a new version for a few years now, and it will certainly be compliant.. What I would love to have is a 2002 ZZR-250 with EFI and a 2-into-1 (relatively) high-mount exhaust... 38hp in a 330-lb wet weight is a very nice commuter.. and the 29.5" stock seat height is a full two inches lower than what passes for a low seat height these days!
I’m just glad I live in Australia, SWM Australia just brought a shipment or SWM RS 650 as they were Euro 3 ( they got them for a steel) as we can still sell them in Aus. And SWM are not selling the RS 650 anymore as the Superdual was selling way better and they didn’t bother getting it to meet Euro 4 at the time. Anyway a lot of happy customers got a RS at a bargain price. I noticed the new Moto Guzzi V 85 is Euro 5 as well .
Yet another good one. Thanks mate. By the way, I'm guessing that Suzuki and other manufacturers will be looking at cost benefit analysis results to decide whether or not to be Euro 5 compliant. Say g'day to Dave,(you still feed him sometimes, yes?).
Hi, I'm gonna move to europe latter this year and I will buy a cruiser there. I really want a t-birt storm from 2018. Is there any chance of older/used bikes from before eu5 being prohibited of riding?
i lucky secured a euro 4 T700 in Australia ,first and only batch from france factory ,others will beforeced to wait for japan to finish euro 5 compliance
I can’t even believe they’re doing this with motorcycles. If they are that worried about pollution or whatever, they should start in other places that need it most. Like…a motorcycle, really
My one week old Vstrom 1000 XT will die this year since it was already upgraded to EURO 4 in his lifetime, lets see what Suzuki brings next. Hope it is so much fun as this bike...
Maybe a bit too strict, but without these regulations nothing would happen. Riding a 2007 euro-3 xvs1300, hope it lasts me a long time, will be hard to find a reasonably priced cruise next time I guess... 🤔
They should exempt motorcycles all together from emmisions standards To be frank ... cars are the biggest poluters out there sitting in trafic with their big ass engines ... not motorcycles
Motorcycle used to emit 10x more exhaust gas than cars, they have to wait at traffic lights just like cars and there is a lot of motorcycles in European cities. The Euro 4 and 5 standard for motor hacks are comparable to what car manufacturer have been doing for 15 years. It’s nothing exceptional, just adding some proven pollution mitigation technologies. And as far as old bike ending production… well yeah… They’re old. They might have last 6 months more without those regulation but that’s it. There will be a new Hayabusa next year.
Actually I dont mind. Bikes were way behind cars in this aspect. Car engines are light years ahead technology wise yet they cost a fortune. I dont think there is room for big price increases on bikes so we probably will better engines for once for jyst a slight price increase. But sure the bike market will be smaller.
When will air cooled bikes die out...euro 6 perhaps. Someone better tell Harley Davidson.....or are they having a going out of business sale , when it happens.
Like it's gonna make any difference... Ignorant politicians don't know everyone takes the stupid breadbox off their bikes, even MORE with euro5. If they would keep the regulations for motorcycles relaxed most people wouldn't even bother and the end result would be better.
I thought the Asians must be cheating , then BMW came out with the biggest boxer I ever seen and Triumph the 660 ;-) Ducati as usual * * * * * C O O L * * * * * Pan American sold out !
The internal combustion engine is in its final death throws, being legislated out of existence. At the moment it looks like electric is the future. They were never going to last forever anyway, can't run a combustion engine if there's no oil.
Suzuki smart. Hell with the European bs. I’m sure there’s way other things there much worse than bikes. Tone that down and things will be such much better
To be honest mate, I've never liked two strokes, even in my youth I thought they were primitive. If they are outlawed, that's good for the environment.
well its true that they are not good for the environment i would not call them primitive. they came after 4 stroke and where made as a optimization to give them better power to weight. 4 stroke cant compete with the same displacement
EURO 5 is really tough for motorcycles. What is you wannabe 2020 bike and is it ready for EURO 5?
Not really. The 1200 GS puts out 95.8 CO2 g/km. (CO2 - Carbon dioxide emission) which is HIGHER than a Ford Fiesta (82g/km)
@@LongWayHome uses more fuel than a ford fiesta too.
Im not sure there is a single bike produced in 2019 omologated for euro 5
Off the top of my head all of BMW's new 1250 boxer engines are EURO 5. GS, RT, RS.
@@LongWayHome the shift cam probably helps. All the bikes are running so lean now. I think the 800 ktm twin does well to still make 105ps and still meet EURO 5
But all bikes combined in Europe can't polute enough as Germany's coal burning powerplants
I bet a cargo ship pollutes more than all the bikes and cars ever will that it ships

And then Euro 6 and Euro 7 until only electric bikes are allowed 😭
They can go to hell! EU is a political Union, they should kill themsselves
So now instead of riding a motorcycle, people will opt to drive the car instead with 4 times the exhaust output. Good thinking EU!
A couple of my favorite bikes, the Kawasaki KLR650 and BMW G650, already got the axe because of this.
wold be better if they tryed to reduce factory emmisons and not car/bike emisions.
Are horses allowed in Europe?..
We have too many donkeys already.
In Brussels.
The donkeys belong in parliament
No, becouse they shit on street 😁
