I love the different types of sarcasm.
Nora sounds like she's using it as a coping mechanism and is having fun, while Nate is just straight up tired of life and doesn't give a shit.
Nate is a veteran so he probably already dealt with PTSD and has graduated into just going "yeah whatever" and sees the wasteland as more an annoyance then a threat.

Nora delivers it as a joke, like she’s amused at the possibility of the reds still being an issue. Nate delivers it as if he thinks Codsworth is stupid to even suggest it and is plain pissed off.
I think Nate is funnier to be totally honest but there are some lines that Nora definitely does better. And some of her different lines are funnier too.
nora is nihilism and nate is absurdism
The Nate one is the best in my opinion, no offense to the voice actress for the female sole survivor but I feel like all her lines were emotionless and wasn't really good at it, but the male ss voice lines are so funny.
And then later in the game in its DLCs he has been shaped by the wasteland to the point where he embraces it and becomes more absurd with his sarcasm.
Nates voice actor for fallout 4 is criminally underated.

Over 200. I’m guessing the Sole Survivor is in his 20’s to at most, like, mid 30’s, and Fallout 4 takes place around 210 years in the future, so I’d say he’s about 230-240 something years old

Gage is the best companion in my opinion his character is cool enough to be worth losing the perk I mean his companion perk sucks tho but yeah I just wish he reacted to more stuff in the main game and Far Harbor

I think the issue is that he had such a 'goody-two-shoes' voice, if that makes any sense. That and he didn't have many normal dialogue options with any depth. FNV excelled at immersing you in the character, but it just doesn't feel that way in 4.
Justin Johns I think the voice immersed me better because it gives life to your character. Your not just a mute idiot through the whole game.

From a modder standpoint yes, it's a bad idea because he had to have a response each time someone makes a companion mod or anything that uses the voice of the VA. It's not everyone's cup of tea. Some people prefer it "role play" the voice themselves to make it seem a little more immersive. But again, it's very subjective because I find both to be appealing.

I think they're WAY funnier as Nate. His voice acting is gold compared to whoever did Nora's. I play as the male just because I can't stand her croaky voice. Drink. Some. Water.
i’ve always found myself playing as the Male SS just because of his voice. i can’t stand the Female’s voice, but her ‘Will you comply?’ does sound pretty funny tbh
I don't see how the writing is even bad. All the writing in each game is good or great. Best was fallout 3

I never realized you can change your character's whole attitude (the skipping dialogue quips) by being consistently one personality type. Definitely adds replay value.

@@tompetty927 ok here I got it. The dialogue skips options: positive response is A in Xbox and X in Ps4, negative response for Xbox is B and Circle button on ps4. But the questioning response is Y for Xbox and triangle for Ps4

Seeing this, it really does tell a story. Like it almost seems like the game wasn't meant to be about RP but was instead about the most sarcastic jerk on the planet who, after losing his wife and child, only has his sardonic sense of humor to keep him going. It feels so much more consistent than just the guy who says Yes to help everyone

I've got a feeling that the voice actor for the protagonist laughed at the script when he saw that
The Shroud missions were hilarious. I always chose the option to talk as The Shroud and confuse the hell out of people. 11:08 is the finale; I believe the henchmen only say “It’s really him!” and flee if you’ve stayed in character wearing the outfit. I reloaded my save probably ten times just so I could score a perfect headshot with my railway rifle and save the hostage from being executed. The VATS cinematic was amazing; the camera was looking down my barrel as it slowly raised and fired, decapitating the bad guy and nailing his head to the wall. It’s to this day one of my all time favorite Fallout 4 experiences.

People say that including voice acting was a mistake in an RPG, and I’m inclined to believe them.
But you have to admit that Brian T. Delaney and Courtenay Taylor really did a great job.
I'd agree the series is definitely strong with no VA but I've come to enjoy F4 as the story of Nate or Nora which is why I never customize their appearance.

@@juan_becerra I enjoy oxhorn for being thorough in his lore but yes, I've rarely play female characters but when I do I can't stand the bright hair and monstrous anime look people give them.

@@iama2509 The only thing I have on my female SS (Ellie Valkyrie) modded is the hair and HD face textures. Everything else is vanilla (hair color, body) (Originally, I was thinking of naming her Nora Valkyrie, but figured it'd be too much of a RWBY referrence, so I went with Ellie instead.)

I did a playthrough as a sarcastic jerk, told bethesda, they were not amused.
If they are so sensitive, then they will like even less the fact I am sometimes not only sarcastic but even unscrupulous (even with good karma playthroughs) in Fallout games. Why do they put options like that in games if they don't like them?
When Fallout series was still made by Interplay, they seemed to have more sense of humor. I sent David Hendee an email saying I robbed his grave. He laughed.

I wasn't a big fan of the dialogue system and the protagonist being voiced, but Brian Delaney completely nailed all of the sarcastic/jerkass lines.
