Your followers will often have a brief exchange with each other when you swap them. This can result in well-wishes or some amusing banter.
Some combinations of followers will not result in conversations, such as replacing McCready with Danse, or replacing anybody with Dogmeat. I tested these combinations multiple times to be sure, so if the pairs missing in this video actually DO result in a conversation, my save file might have been bugged enough to prevent them :(
All conversations were recorded at the same point in the game -- towards the end, but before you start burning bridges with the different factions. This save file has max-friendship status with every follower except for Hancock, MacCready, and Strong (hense the state of Danse and Curie). I maaay be missing some conversations that are unavailable without those (evidenced by the curie4deacon conversation). Humorously enough, despite certain events changing some characters significantly, the conversations between characters remain unchanged (esp. Curie and Danse).
I'm not sure why most of Preston Garvey's conversations would free me from the dialogue camera.

I find it funny that Danse and the brotherhood are all “against abominations” and shit, but it’s only to synths ghouls and mutants. Literally no one in the BoS pays attention to Mirelurks, Deathclaws, Yao Guais Or Brahmin. Unrelated reply, I know, but Danse saying that to dogmeat really sparked a though I guess.

I also find it strange that even after (Spoiler alert) you find out hes a synth he still talks about the brotherhood like their his religion or something. He's still a jerk to synths and ghouls (mutants I can understand) even after he said himself that it doesn't matter what you are, you can still do good.

It's funny how most people are more comfortable around strong than X6
The Institute is unpredictable, and their Coursers are just plain creepy. At least with super mutants you can tell that some might actually prefer combat with only certain people on the other side of the field. The Institute... They say neither Jack nor Shit.
if a super mutant wants you dead, you'll know it. Institute synths are a lot more sneaky-snake.
Strong is built like a brick Buick and has no inside voice at all. If strong wanted you dead, everyone in a ten mile radius would know. X6 is calm and off-puttingly quiet.
Even more funny is how Strong is nicer than Dance. Dance is condencending and low-key wants to execute a third of them while Strong is just "that human/robot is weak", and when he's not, he actually compliments others.

Since he's a committed member of the Brotherhood he hates synths, and he knows about Valentine because he's well known throughout the commonwealth. And Danse is a really high ranking member of the BoS which synths tend to be afraid of, so it makes sense that Valentine would know who he is.

Danse and the brotherhood are extremely isolationist in terms of their attitude, dude’s had that sense of superiority instilled in him through violence and conditioning for years.
Very capable soldier and combatant. Leaves a lot to be desired in terms of social skills. He somehow still manages to be more tolerable than the Outcasts and their Neanderthal comments lol

Strong will pop into the conversation at each of these points, approving or disapproving of your choices

@Zayin Frye In survival mode he’s actually one of the best. He can’t hold a lot but if you tap into the lone wanderer perk you can hold a crap load and still have dog meat travel with you. Dog meat also won’t give you away when you sneak and won’t complain when you eat a human body.

Despite the hatred Fallout 4 got, the fact that Bethesda worked on NPCs, especially on companions. The sassy jokes and stuff like that makes Fallout 4 amazing.
Honestly, if the game had the same level of writing that New Vegas had, with maybe some more fleshed out mechanics here and there, I'd think Fallout 4 would've been more loved than NV, and that would say a lot.

Bethesda did an amazing job on the companions in this game. The companion swap-out lines particularly, are some of my favorite dialogue in the game. The "Preston In/Hancock Out" is one of my favorites:

The amount of Sass and Friendliness your companions have towards eachother in Fallout 4 is what honestly sold me on the game itself
The companions in this game are amazing. All of them are relatable, with some being more morally layered than others, but each also explains where they’re coming from and how they ended up where they are. I really like all of them except for X66 and Danse, they just annoy me.

It seems like most of the companions recognize McCready as a formidable fighter. Yet everytime I have him around he just doesn't die but he doesn't do a lot of damage either.

Even when I give MacReady a fully modded up Gun-nut 5, Science 5 weapon, I still kill 9/10 enemies when not in power armor. When I’m in power armor he’s basically there just to annoy me by complaining when I scavenge or do anything intellectual.
I get that the Sole Survivor is supposed to become the ultimate badass of the Commonwealth eventually, but hell, Piper kills more baddies with a rifle than MacReady does. I really don’t know why his aim is held in such high regard.

Yeah it’s an interesting thing. While unrelated, it did make me think: Throughout the game, it’s really only suggested that the BoS dislikes Ghouls, Mutants, and Synths. We destroy see the BoS think negatively about the other creatures in the ecosystems and shit.

I keep all my companions at Kingsport Lighthouse, and travel exclusively with Dogmetal/custom robot.
I like to imagine they all get into wacky sit-com shenanigans while I'm gone, and every time I come back to check on them (make sure Danse hasn't killed Strong or Hancock) I subconsciously play the theme song from 'Friends' in my head.
Some people think BoS kill all ghouls/synths/whatever because of what they say. But if you check, they never actually do it.
