My dad died about 6 weeks ago. He was at home so that we could care for him there.
This was his favourite piece of music. He went into a coma the day before he died, Mum and I played it to him in his coma. He opened his eyes and looked around and then went back to sleep. Glad he got to hear his favourite music as he went onto his new journey.

Hello :) Your Dad and mine clearly both loved this beautiful piece of music, which always has the power to reduce me to tears. My dear Dad died in England, early in the morning on 04Mar22. I will be ever grateful that on Sunday 27Feb22 I, via Skype, was able to play another favourite of his (Fuer Elise) which actually awoke him briefly from the deep, dementia-induced sleep he was in. It was wonderful that he recognised another favourite piece of music.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad died way back in 2004 and he loved this song and it was played at his funeral.
Every time I hear the song it brings so much emotion and reminds me of him.
I certainly have grown to appreciate these amazing songs and tenors as I've grown older. My dad's favourite tenors were Jussi Byorling and Placido Domingo but I still remember him saying that Pavarotti was possibly the best of them all.

These voices complement one another better than other versions. it's how they harmonize, evoking that chill down the spine. Better singers have sung this aria but never better.

Nevet been a great fan of Pavarotti but this shows him at his best. Such a considerate singer. Too often the tenor part overwhelms.

@@dopeydawg8954 that’s a bit harsh. There are plenty of tenors I prefer over Pavarotti. Not saying he’s a bad singer, but he certainly was not “the greatest” as everyone claims he was. I don’t blame them for thinking that, as he’s probably the only tenor most non-classical music fans have heard. It kind of makes it hard to compare. I think Pavarotti had some great roles, but I find it ironic that most of his more iconic recordings (Mostly Verdi and heavier Puccini) are not what I would consider the best. It’s subjective after all, all these guys were at the top of the world at the time and to place one completely above another is kidding yourself.

I love Pavarotti, but this is not ideal repertoire for his voice. Typically this would be sung by a lighter tenor voice. Leopold Simoneau is an excellent example. ruclips.net/video/kSNHSEltakY/видео.html
