On the contrary, those with influence, wealth, and everything to gain from it are the most powerful and dangerous people on the planet. Those with nothing to lose are completely powerless before them. Sure, people of the latter are incredibly desperate, and willing to do anything, but that never matters, because the elite have every tool they could possible hope to have at their disposal to stomp on them until they are _nothing._ The silver lining is the more that powerful people stomp on the little man, the less stable their house of cards gets. Batman made Joker's life worth living again. He would never kill Batman, and he knows Batman would never kill him. Order vs. Chaos locked in an endless battle. Finding Batman was the happiest moment of the Joker's life.
That’s a great statement! Describes the evolution of Gotham’s authorities throughout the whole trilogy. In Begins the were corrupt. In TDK idealistic. In TDKR exploited.
Um, no, it really isn't...if anything, its more about Harvey Dent and his fall from the grace, and the drastic measures Batman had to take to fight crime and corruption. Joker played a huge part, but the movie certaintly isn't solely based on him entirely.
If you pay attention at 4:15 he says "killing is making a choice" that means choose=kill, and "you have to CHOOSE (kill) between one life or the other". By choosing Rachel, batman actually chose to kill Rachel, rather than saving her. That's why the directions were "wrong". Avenue x was not the direction to save Rachel but rather to kill her. Batman just did not understood joker's game.
I always come back to this scene. Aside from the brilliant writing and acting, it’s the subtext. Joker is a maniac but here you can tell he’s being genuine with Batman when giving the speech. He’s trying to tell him how the world really is. He obviously had a troubled past and must’ve been broken down by people or society to get to where he is now but He sees Batman who is a noble man trying to good for everybody and probably respects him for it. He’s open with him and tells him the truth because in his eyes it’s all futile.
And he speaks truth. You don't only see the madness in his character but he is also talking about the madness that is this fucked up corrupt world/society we live in today. Order followers lack conscience. Conscience is the exercise of free will, to determine to one's self whether an action they are about to take is moral or not. Order followers will carry out an order regardless of whether that action is moral or not, so by definition they lack conscience. They say "yes sir!" and carry out the order. Those cops, politicians, and lawyers are no different than The Joker's henchmen/thugs in that regard. They are all thugs.
It'sAustin no, he didn't. Gotham didn't turn to chaos and didn't lose hope. Batman took the fall and the Dent Act was passed that ended most organized crime. It just came at a tremendous cost for Bruce.
Christian Tompkins did you watch the movie, man? He turned Dent but Batman and Gordon hid the truth from Gotham. He was instead made a hero and city's legislation stopped organized crime for 8 years until The Dark Knight Rises. Joker definitely changed things but of all things, he didn't win. I almost feel like the reason Batman snapped at 3:18 isn't because he was super concerned about Dent, but because the more Joker went on, the more he realised he was right, and he was too stubborn to let it show thus he changed the subject the quickest way he could.
The Joker movie is the greatest to come out of the franchise since this one. They explored a plausible origin of a realistic Joker and yet it was different enough to not be overshadowed by this classic
Yeah they kinda neutered him in the new film a bit. It's too bad Phoenix didn't have the creative freedom that Ledger did, I do wonder now how much farther he might have taken it.

"you have NOTHING to threaten me with." that was the most epic line ever. he was so right. joker wasn't your typical criminal, and he had batman by the nuts
Joker was 110% right. At the end of the movie Batman was cast out and when the ships were down (Bane’s occupation of Gotham) they all ate each other. Noone was proud of being a cop anymore. Joker knew Batman and Gotham better than anyone.
0:41 If you look closely you notice that when the Joker is emphasising on just how alone you really are his eyes look to the left corner and then closes them for a brief second, he definitely knew what was exactly right behind him the whole time. This is why Heath Ledgers Joker is the best of all time great subtle acting.
Hawk7743 yeah I think the prosthetics would dry and crack and it took like 3 hrs to reapply them so instead of that he would just lick his lips to moisten the prosthetics so they wouldn’t dry and mess up
I'm convinced of the origin theory that this version of the Joker started out as a special ops soldier. Hence why he has no record or means of identification, his entire existence was erased so he could do what he thought at the time was for the greater good. Except only he soon realized it was all a lie, he killed people, did unspeakable things all in the name of protecting a free world. But when he came home, that world didn't really exist, he was actually killing for the idea of it, but in reality it was just so a few self-important people got to keep things they way they wanted them. The mob wanted their money, Harvey wanted order, and politicians wanted votes, they say it's all important and worth doing it all for, but in the end It was really all just a cruel... sick... joke.
Joker to me seems too independent to have been a solider. He hates having anything interfere with his ideas and doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would tolerate getting yelled at by the chain of command such as occurs in the military. Kind of a lone wolf. Also, any civilian could learn the same skills as a soldier if they found the right person to teach them and Joker would have the money and connections to do that.
It makes a lot of sense. I've always thought of him probably starting out more as a highly intelligent operative working for the CIA - someone who'd spend a lot of his time in a suit or in disguise. I pictured him getting assignments that were more and more brutal where lines between right and wrong and where "playing by the rules" became more and more questionable. These assignments were morally ambiguous and, eventually he was betrayed by those in charge of him and betrayed by the "rules". In his mind, the situation was bigger than that - he was betrayed by society's rules as a whole. In this betrayal, he was beaten and tortured (by the "good guys" or the "bad guys"??) During that torture, he was given his scars. I'm picturing that somehow his love interest was involved and probably the man he trusted most - one of his bosses or handlers. His "wife", maybe a fellow operative and love interest who probably got too involved with the "bad guys" and paid the price for it. His "father", boss/senior officer who trained him and gave him the monstrous assignments that drove him over the edge. Or...maybe those people were all in his head. I don't think he started out as a clown who advertised for sandwich shops or visited kids in the hospital who inspired to be a stand up comedian.

On the contrary, those with influence, wealth, and everything to gain from it are the most powerful and dangerous people on the planet. Those with nothing to lose are completely powerless before them. Sure, people of the latter are incredibly desperate, and willing to do anything, but that never matters, because the elite have every tool they could possible hope to have at their disposal to stomp on them until they are _nothing._
The silver lining is the more that powerful people stomp on the little man, the less stable their house of cards gets. I'm tired of being stomped on. I'm sick of it. It's driving me mad. I wanna see it collapse. So... BADLY!

That movie should call the joker and batman, batman second of course. Joker steal the entire movie to batman
Um, no, it really isn't...if anything, its more about Harvey Dent and his fall from the grace, and the drastic measures Batman had to take to fight crime and corruption. Joker played a huge part, but the movie certaintly isn't solely based on him entirely.
Louis Rodriguez ehh naw
If you pay attention at 4:15 he says "killing is making a choice" that means choose=kill, and "you have to CHOOSE (kill) between one life or the other". By choosing Rachel, batman actually chose to kill Rachel, rather than saving her.
That's why the directions were "wrong". Avenue x was not the direction to save Rachel but rather to kill her. Batman just did not understood joker's game.
That's actually really brilliant. I think though a different Batman would've figured that out.
I think it’s not metaphorically meaning to kill rachee but to kill Harvey, by choosing to save Rachel he’s choosing to kill Harvey

One of the best scenes ever. Truly showing the madness that is the Joker.

Joker was right about everything.
In the end, he won
It'sAustin no, he didn't. Gotham didn't turn to chaos and didn't lose hope. Batman took the fall and the Dent Act was passed that ended most organized crime. It just came at a tremendous cost for Bruce.
I would say this, he was right about EVERYTHING but didnt win because he didnt think batman would take it all on himself.

The mob wanted their money, Harvey wanted order, and politicians wanted votes, they say it's all important and worth doing it all for, but in the end It was really all just a cruel... sick... joke.
Sounds like First Blood
@@Mc-godzilla Or Punisher.
Nah cause if he was special ops he would have fought Batman instead of using dogs and wild attacks in the finale of the movie
