      Honestly Iron Man 1, Spider-man 2, Logan and Joker are much better than The Dark Knight.
      Nolan better make character driven films like Prestige with emotional connection again instead of making one-dimensional character plot driven films with plot holes.

      @@riceballdonut847 It's just a common theme for psychopaths to continually change their stories or overexaggerate with them, it's a side effect. A relative of mine was working in a hospital clinic and they brought two people to get tested for blood and stuff. The person who was acting all weird and maybe crazy was completely harmless, the other guy who was gentleman like and talked calmy and with temperament was actually the guy being kept close eye by 4 guards. As my relative finished the convertation with the patient like with everyone, they asked the guard why is the patient what did they do, they seem fine and healthy mentally. The guard replied that he started a massacre.

    Joker noticed that the last time he mentioned Gambol's grandmother, Gambol was very angry. He could tell that Gambol cared about his family, or maybe had a chip on his shoulder about it(insert potentially insensitive "black people no father" joke). So, when he meets Gambol again, he tells a backstory that is a corrupted version of "family".
    Later, Joker knew from the start that Harvey had a romantic partner. He knew that Rachel and Harvey were in love. So, he tells Rachel a backstory that is a corrupted version of "love".
    I wonder what backstory he was going to tell Batman.

      See, like you, I had a, uh, code. Just like yours. A silly, little, code. Never. Kill. Anyone, unless I absolutely, positively had to. And I was quite good at not killing anyone, believe me. I *captured* my enemies.
      We round up all the, uh, *overzealous* gunmen and load 'em into a little truck we found. But, before we're about to head off, one of our guys spots a straggler running off.
      Now, all of us, excepting me, are too tired and weary to chase after him. So, they send me. But even I can't catch up to him, so I decide to just let him go. I return to the guys, and the next morning we haul the captives away.
      But the thing is, when on duty - you never, ever slack off. As we're driving to the extraction point along the worn dirt road, a dirty bomb deonates, catching us all off guard. A truckload of my comrades disappears in - *fire* and *asshhhhh.* And as for me, well, that's how I got these scars. Two pieces of shrapnel flew at my faces, sssllll *icing* both of my cheeks.
      I fall to the ground, spent.
      A while later, an old, white pickup truck shows up. One guy gets out - presumably the leader of the thugs, followed by another guy. But get this - it's the same guy I spared the night before.
      So, me watching, he takes his gun to my crippled unit commander, laughing while he does it. He aims it at his head, and says these words to him - 'دلسوزی تو پایان تو بود - Your compassion was your end.'
      Those scars - the mental ones *and* the cheek ones from the shrapnel I got to the face - stayed with me my entire life. And I never would've gotten them had I not refused to kill that man.

      Joker always makes his stories similar to those he’s talking to. He probably knows Gamble did not have a happy childhood and probably suffered abuse. So he picks at that and makes it into something terrifying to pull at his fears. The same with Rachel when he mentions him being in a couple etc. Secretly joker is very smart in how he talks. He understands interrogation and getting inside someones head (Batman). He can take your psyche and turn it on itself and thats what he tried to do to Gotham before Batman actually stopped him. But he did get Harvey to turn on himself and that in the end was all it took.

    0:27 in a way I respect Gambol for this bit. He doesn’t double cross the apparent murderers, rather keeps his word and offers them the $500000 reward he promised. This ties in with the mob bank manager saying “criminals in this town used to believe in things. Honour, respect.” Gambol is an example of that.

    • @chuckleshoneysuck1515
      @chuckleshoneysuck1515 Год назад +103

      Yes but people like Gambol don't honor their word out of the goodness of their heart. In the criminal world news travels quickly and if you're the boss of an organization who's known for offering jobs then refusing to pay, or even worse killing the people hired to do the job?
      Good luck getting anyone to take your jobs the next time you try to hire anyone, people don't like to work for guys who are known for scamming their workers. Honesty and keeping to your word (at least in a public situation like this, backstabbing happens all the time when they can get away with it) is the cost of doing business in that world.

    But what if the two background stories on how he got his scares are both true. That when his father put the blade in his mouth and said "let's put a smile on that face." His father didn't actually do it, but it left a scar for him mentally. And when his wife got scars all over her face, it gave him the idea to carve a smile on his own face since his wife kept telling him that he needed to smile more. His father gave him the scar mentally, and he physically gave himself the scar for his wife. Both stories are true.

      What the Joker has is a talent for HUMINT (some have suggested that the character's backstory included time in the military). Just the mob boss meeting scene tells us a lot. First, apparently he had sussed out in advance where the meeting was going to be and hid inside before anyone else got there because goons were screening everybody at the door. We know he was close enough to be able to hear them talk before revealing himself because when he said "And the suit? It wasn't cheap..." he was reacting to Maroni's earlier comment that the Joker was a "two-bit whack job - wears a cheap purple suit and makeup" and he heard the continued conversation or he wouldn't have been in a position to tell the group that Lau's ("the television's") plan would result in Lau squealing because Lau was vulnerable to being picked up by Batman even if he were in Hong Kong. The Joker knew who Gambol was on sight, and knew enough about his personality to successfully bait him into trying to have the Joker brought to him dead or alive (why bother seeking out Gambol to knock him off when Gambol wants the Joker to come to him?). It's just an example of the storycraft brought into this movie.

    • @PoisonelleMisty4311
      @PoisonelleMisty4311 11 месяцев назад +1

      The Joker's unpredictability and lack of remorse also added to his terrifying nature. He was willing to do anything to achieve his goals, no matter how cruel or inhumane. His maniacal laughter and twisted sense of humor only heightened his villainy, creating a sense of unease and fear in those who crossed his path. Additionally, his complex relationship with Batman, who often struggled with his own moral code when facing the Joker, added to the sense of dread surrounding the character. Overall, the Joker's lack of boundaries and his willingness to push the limits of sanity and morality made him one of the most terrifying villains in comic book history.

    It's absolutely insane how effortless he makes this look. The voice, the accent, everything. He absolutely is the Joker and is a completely different person. In real life everyone who knew Heath would say he was one of the most gentle, kind people that they've ever met. I think we have gotten so used to knowing Heath Ledger as the Joker that we've forgotten he was also in Brokeback Mountain, A Knight's Tale and 10 Things I Hate About You. After watching these and then re-watching the Dark Knight (with the whole world doubting him at that point). You can see how phenomenal of an actor he is here proving us all wrong. The Joker is literally the complete opposite of Heath Ledger. Legendary performance.

    One aspect of the Joker's character overshadowed by his manic personality was his unexpected physical abilities. His "magic trick" with the pencil required quickly overpowering a much bigger opponent, and him quickly stabbing the two men on either side of him as he rose from the bag in this scene required real skill. That, with his ability to take a severe beating from the Batman and continue talking to him, is pretty formidable.

    When I first saw this scene at the cinema I remember thinking "Hey! Isn't the Joker supposed to lack a clear origin story?" but Ledger's delivery was so incredibly sinister that I just went along with it. But then came the scene where he tells his wife's story and holy shit! The entire theatre went wild with excitement at this masterpiece of a character.
