I love how from beginning to end, in all three movies, Lucius never once refers to Bruce as Batman when they speak to one another. Compartmentalization with well-defined boundaries was how he balanced his dedication and commitment within Bruce's two worlds.
In the Nolan trilogy they make it clear that Batman is just a symbol, Bruce doesn't identify himself as Batman but rather he uses that persona to be incorruptible and invincible at the eyes of his enemies. He says that many times and also that he didn't want to be Batman forever since he wanted to have a life outside the cave with Rachel first and then is able to do that with Selina. Also if you notice unlike in many other superhero movies in the end credits there's no "Bruce Wayne/Batman" (no real identity slash secret identity) just "Bruce Wayne" when he's credited.
I love the way the Joker totally called this. "And as for the television's so called plan? Batman has no jurisdiction. He'll find him, and make him squeal!"

Also: No one in Hong Kong EXCEPT Lau knew that Batman even existed. Imagine how scared they were when this is the ONLY encounter with the Bat they’ll ever have.
The wire grapple system batman uses and the electrostatic glide cape are still sadly science fiction but feasible in the future, and the trilogy certainly had more real gadgets in it than any other to date and I too love them for this reason. The fighting is also far more real, people get tired and don't move around like a hamster on drugs but like proper cage fight / brawl style, i.e. as humans do. The trilogy is a masterpiece and I doubt I will see as good a batman film again in my lifetime.
Lucius actually did correct him. A bat uses its ears, and can discern obstacles. Active sonar on a submarine goes through a computer and can give a 3D representation on a screen, turning the audio into a visual picture.
Maybe Bruce is actually trying to get Lucius Fox to say "bat" as a confirmation that he is so onboard the whole Batman thing But Lucius always maintains a professional/technical attitude as well as a careful plausible deniability Both characters are portrayed very well by Nolan
Amazing movie but I never figured out why Batman couldn’t blame everything on the joker at the end. The whole take all the blame die for everyone’s sins ending seemed a bit contrived.

One thing I absolutely love about Nolan is his real time events. Most movies show a timer of any sort and never follow them in real time. Batman times them for 2 mins 30 secs and this whole scene ends with explosions at the same time 2 mins 30 seconds.
"Sonar, just like a, uh..." "Submarine, mr. Wayne. Submarine." I never realized that line was Freeman's character subtly implying he still didn't want to have anything to do with Batman officially.
Yeah plausible deniability. Plus anyone who suspected Bruce as Batman might bug areas Lucius frequents either to justify an arrest warrant or blackmail him. Hell, in this movie someone in Wayne enterprises figures out Bruce is Batman just by examining Wayne Enterprises' accounting records and old stock inventory. Imagine if he'd taken more time to prep his blackmail, like gaining a recording Lucius and Bruce couldn't alter later (like they'd be able to at least attempt with the company's finances and they could try to relocate the gadgets/prototype bat-mobiles. Lucius was careful enough to make sure such a recording could never exist.
Well the fluttering of his Cape makes those sounds and it's such an important detail instead of just using music background when in the air like some movies do. It was impressive.

I want to say that guard wasn't supposed to fall prematurely without being hit that last time with the gun that scene alone blows my mind like who fucked up here 🤔
My god, it just hit me that there was a double meaning when Fox told Bruce "like a submarine". It wasn't just explaining the tech but more so a cover story to hide Batman's identity from the R&D. You could tell at 0:10 that Bruce's mouth almost wanted to utter the word "BAT" as in "echolocation" but Fox reassured him that they had a legit tech relation to subs just so to throw off any suspicions linking him to Batman. Seriously the little details man...
This is one of the Rare moment where Batman act like Mercenaries, no talk, no wages & no postponement, but That's what actually makes him scary, just doing his task & leave the crime scene like it's nothing, a Pure Perfection of 'Take what you can and Give Nothing Back' in any Action movies.
Bruce: "Sonar. Just like a…" Fox: "Submarine, Mr. Wayne, like a submarine." Bruce: "I was gonna say 'bat'." Fox: "I know you were. That's why I said 'submarine'."
Everyone's talking about how Batman got in and out of a building, no one's talking about how that crack pilot sneaked a slow moving C-130 into Chinese airspace, made a low pass right over downtown Hong Kong at precisely the right moment from the correct direction, nailed the pickup on the first pass, and then flew home with their lights on all without getting intercepted.
He didn't sneak it in. You can bet that plane was officially scheduled to fly there for totally innocuous reasons, and was equally officially above suspicion as it flew away, the second part being thanks to some very fancy bribery. Let's not forget, Batman has the most powerful superpower there is--cold hard cash.
No one is asking the other question here and it’s bothering me- who flies batman’s personal military cargo plane? Somewhere, possibly within applied science, Batman has a whole staff of people with specific skills that I guess must know about Bruce along with lucious and it feels like a plot hole (even though it doesn’t technically break anything).

I remember the day in the theater literally everyone was balling laughing... just such a great moment. The police/guards think they have him cornered, he blows the windows and then not only leaves them holding the bag and the L but doing it in the best most badass way.
Yeah, Bale's Batman is still the best. No other Batman ever reached this level of badass. The man took on the entire Hong Kong police force, disappeared into thin air when thugs were shooting at him, blew out the side of a skyscraper and Fulton extracted himself, all to get one man.
This is still imo the greatest super hero movie of all time by a country mile. So good that it transcends its own genre. As in, The Dark Knight itself if Batman didn’t exist prior and this was a film and isolation is still one of the best action-drama films I’ve ever seen. History does and will continue to view this film (in all honesty led by Heath Ledger’s once in a lifetime performance as The Joker) as an absolute home run.
Well I think to be fair he gave himself some extra time. By the time Batman beat up Lau’s goons and was holding him hostage the bombs hadn’t gone off yet. So he had some time to spare.

That's how you know when the story is good when the story comes first and then superhero second. For example: Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Especially with Jessica Jones, you sometimes forget that she has powers.
I dunno, Mexico is getting pretty close to that point. Just last month the Mexican police were outgunned by cartel militia when they captured El Chapo's son. Police had him in custody, but were under heavy fire, some captured, and couldn't leave the city. Fearing a massacre like what killed 14 police that same week, officials agreed to hand him back over. The Mexican government is practically on the verge of being a failed state at this point. They control only what the cartels don't care to contest them for.

I love how Christopher Nolan uses real life gadgets and equipments in Batman Trilogy.

I cannot wait to see a moment like this in the new Batman series. This is Batman the character at his peak of skill and experience.
I feel like every criminal who faces off against Batman has a moment where they genuinely start wondering if he really is more than human.
This was Lau's moment.
Comments like this make me appreciate the video game Batman Arkham Origins, where cops and criminals didn't think of Batman as a man in a costume, but rather, a urban myth/boogeyman for criminals.
The dark knight trilogy are for kids
The Batman and Moon knight is for adults
"If you make yourself more than just a man..."
@@Samuel152 it’s a shame Arkham origins gets a lot of hate it’s my favorite out of all the Arkhams
