It’s certainly my least favorite of the dark knight trilogy (my favorite movie trilogy EVER, for that matter) but it’s still easily in my top 50 movies of all time. Despite how flawed it is, the symbolism and apocalyptic gotham setting are what make the somewhat bloated plot work for me. I just wish they removed talia from the script and added some extra time to have some of the plot holes make more sense (the main thing that comes to mind is a conversation about how bad of an idea sending the entire gotham police force into what would seem like an obvious trap in real life)
Edit: after several rewatches I now prefer rises over batman begins, but dark knight is still my favorite of the trilogy (yeah I know I’m so original)

I'm by no means an expert on DC, especially as I don't collect the comics/graphic novels ...
But my understanding is that the reason why Superman drafted Batman into the Justice League, with little hesitation, is because the former realised that the latter, despite being by no means a superhero, made up for being a mortal human by having an extraordinary set of skills that utterly sets him apart from anyone else ...
... in fact, I prefer Batman over Ironman, as Batman is far more than just his suit. Yes, Ironman out of suit is still a utter genius, I'm not quite sure what is he proven to be, outside of his suit: to Stark, him, and Ironman, where one, and the same ...
Batman is different, as in Wayne and Batman where two entirely different personae, especially as Batman could well be, in Jungian terms, Bruce's 'shadow self', a quiet, yet incredible, and powerful, force, that lurks in the darkness, that presents to the people of Gotham as a vigilant protective presence, their ever present watcher and guardian, that became far more than a vigilante; he became their hope, whilst casting dread on the more serious of criminals, and even more so on petty thieves ...
That's what I believe Superman grew to admire about Batman: despite Gotham regarding Batman as their 'Guardian Angel', he never let that feed into what ego he has, as he believes he is just doing a necessary civic duty. Batman may have unresolved issues, but a narcissistic personality isn't one ...
Hence the huge disparity between Bruce, and the Bat: the less people knew about whom Batman actually was, the greater, and more powerful, that vigilant, dark force, became; of that duality of both hope, and dread ...
In fact, even Bruce Wayne, the billionaire, playboy, 'high market value' guy, whilst still being the generous philanthropist, is, completely obvious, yet another of his masks. The only time he can be his naturally introverted, but not impersonal, self, is not only with Alfred, and Lucius, but also Superman, as there is, whilst, again from my understanding, that though Bruce maintains that tiny bit of uncertainty, and a fully thought-through contingency, if something happened to cause Superman to go rogue (ala Homelander ...), they still had a huge amount for respect for each other, possibly because, being pragmatic in being willing to be in harm's way to protect any innocent people, was one of many attributes which caused the rest of the JL to treat him as one of their own ...
      [Edit:- Exactly that ...
Yet another reason why he's highly regarded by the rest of the JL is how he handled adversity, with quiet dignity, and perseverance, never once making himself out to be a martyr of circumstances; again, amongst one of the many personalty traits that is of the true Bruce Wayne, himself ...
It's funny that on occasion, a person with an almost characterure of a personality, that is just an outward shell that the world sees, can exist, whilst the real person, kept deeply underneath, is almost a diametrical opposite of that construct ...]

Not to mention, virtually everyone in Gotham at this point hated Batman and his legacy after the events of The Dark Knight, for his fake murder of Dent/the Police Officers. So this symbol just gives everyone hope.

I agree that Foley definitely had a moment of realization here that he was wrong and now could find the courage to stand against Bane and his army.

And the knowledge that criminals fear that symbol, is what gives people hope.

It’s honestly amazing looking back at this trilogy’s greatness and realizing that there are so many small details in every scene, that I didn’t manage to see beforehand at the time, that I’m starting to find out and learn more about now when I rewatch these films scene by scene. There is really so much to dissect in this trilogy that can be easy to miss at first glance. Christopher Nolan really is a detail-oriented genius. This trilogy truly is a masterpiece. There will never be another one like it. Is anybody else also finding and noticing small but critical details and moments in this trilogy that you didn’t see beforehand?

When you think about the dynamic of who Blake was supposed to be, it changes this interaction. It feels like an exercise in trust, a demonstration of expectations, a lecture in theatricality, a test to see if he could follow orders and finally the assignment of a role. He may not have a suit and a codename, but he definitely feels like Robin. Especially from this scene.
