At first I thought batman is just a billionaire with some tech and some fighting skills. And I always preferred iron man over batman. But the way Christopher Nolan wrote the Trilogy I must say batman's story is the most inspiring and its a true masterpiece.
Batman is the worlds best superhero. This is not because he has powers like superman, tech like iron man, magic of dr fate or speed of flash. He has something stronger his will power. The most awesome thing about batman is how many times you break him in end he always wins. The best superhero ever.
Trilogy starts with bruce falling in cave, which has bats and they frighten him. Trilogy ends when bruce is rising from a cave, which has bats and he frightens them.
1:08 his self-conscious smile always gets me, he simply KNEW he would make it Btw. this scene is so powerful and timeless! Everyday we fight our own battles and sometimes we give up for a little thing, but we are able of such great things! I just love the legacy of this scene
I don't think that it's so much as he knew he would make it, i think he was just accepting that whether he rises or falls, this would be his final attempt and that he wouldn't be living in the pit anymore.
"How can you move faster then possible, fight longer then possible. Without the most powerful impulse of the spirit.... the fear of death" This might be one of the most powerful lines I have ever heard in a film. Brilliant!
No idea why but this scene really inspires me when life is rough, the symbolism that as Bruce did we must sometimes risk it all and pull ourselves out of the well when we are at our most hurt and vulnerable, maybe that’s not how it was intended but it’s how I see it, such a great scene
This isn’t just a scene for me.. its basically my life.. it’s always this part I come back to when I need to be picked up again. I’m 26 years old and this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Not only because Christian bale is one of my favourite actors and my favourite Batman and I’m a MASSIVE Batman fan(I have Batman memorabilia & other collectibles in my room) but mainly for his iron will and his dedication and never giving up. Seeing him stand up out of that pit rising like the warrior he is with Mr. Hans Zimmers music and the prisoners cheering is bloody amazing it gives me chills and its exactly how I felt. Being sick & dying in bed everyday first from destroying my body, and then being sick from healing it, as Batmans was until he was finally ready to make the climb and rise. I like to think that I myself conquered what I did and I also did rise again. I’m no warrior but I battled drug addiction in my life and pretty much lost everything. After highschool, I went from an athlete, a competing promising kickboxer, a basketball player, to a junkie loser. No money no future no desire literally nothing. Couldn’t even save a dime. I was a walking corpse. Nobody wanted anything to do with me. I didn’t either. You can imagine I was called every name in the book and suicidal thoughts were nothing new to me anymore. Talking harshly to myself was nothing new to me anymore. I had a privileged life I had everything I ever wanted and I guess somewhere down the line I took advantage of it and I went from a good kid an athlete, to nothing. Just another junkie loser. Here I was hurting my loved ones but mainly myself the worst way possible. After battling pure hell somehow with the Grace of God one day at a time I’m now almost 3 years clean and sober and I have everything back in my life and more. My family. An amazing fiancé who knows everything about me and wants to be there for me through it all. And I can actually save money now which is a blessing to me like no other. I went to acting school for couple years and got an agent and became an actor so we’ll see what happens with that. I’m now also attending school to become an addiction counsellor. Hopefully I can help the ones like me. And I started a small carpentry business at home making tables/desks since covid started which has been very beneficial for me. But mainly I hope acting and my career as a Therapist works out. Even if not, I can atleast do the things that I want to do now in life and try. And not be trapped in my prison of addiction anymore.. Despite all that I still consider myself a junkie loser who hasn’t really done anything in his life. And I don’t feel like I’ll ever make my parents proud. Facing death and fighting for my life and winning it back from addiction I guess isn’t something this older generation of my Indo Canadian ppl think it’s anything to be proud of.. more like something to be ashamed of. I know I have to talk to myself kinder and that’s something I’m working on. But it’s hard when even now sometimes people who I don’t get along with that well try to judge you for your past mistakes. Calling me a junkie every time there’s a heated argument. Using my past as a weapon. So I just stay away now as I can’t handle that kinda toxicity in my life. It hurts more and does more damage than most will know but it is what it is. Most importantly I just hope to make my family proud, mainly my fiancé and my parents who will hopefully be proud to call me her husband and their son one day. Thats all I really want. That’s all I hope for. Thank you for your time to read this. All the real ones struggling and fighting out there please keep going. One day at a time. You are a warrior like Batman! When he finally rises out of that pit it is exactly how I felt when I finally beat my addiction and saw the world with my clear eyes again. I was rising again. To a better, wiser and stronger me. You Will Also Rise! God Bless You🙏🏼💪🏼🖤
Same feelings Right now Haven't achieved anything but I Promised to not even waste a single day of my life Work Like Hell From now Lets finally face our fears
Incredible story I understand how you feel it really resonated with me thank you for inspiring me! I will look at this comment and reply often when I need to and want to
@One Day You May Happy New Year to you my brother, cheers on going to your 4 years clean. If your children and their kids gonna inherit your will and strength to live, trust me,they cant be more proud of that. Pride doesnt come from the things that you own already,it comes of what you went through to get there. Never forget that.
We all grow up in a pit. The pit of our ego, our hate and our arrogance. Some of us manages to escape that pit and then throw the rope in the pit for others to escape as well. Unfortunately most of the people decides to ignore that help.
You know, I never realized the symbolism of the pit when I saw this the first time. I never realized that this pit was the Lazarus Pit, and when Bruce entered it, he was broken, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He allowed peace to make him weak and that is what allowed Bane to plow him into the ground. He didn’t have the fighting spirit and the will that allowed him to face down criminals with automatic weapons. He allowed the pain that came with the loss of Rachel dying and the humiliation of letting Harvey Dent become a monster turn him into a recluse. By entering the pit, Bruce was able to reclaim the physical strength he once had. He was able to reclaim the mental focus that made it possible to give him purpose in his crusade to save Gotham. And he allowed the fear that once forced him to become Batman in the first place, to enter his heart again, and in that moment, he climbed out of the pit stronger than ever. His vitality returned, his warrior spirit rejuvenated, and his mental focus as sharp as a knife. I never thought that the Lazarus Pit could be used in such a brilliant fashion, but with Nolan, everything is possible.
His soul/spirit had been trapped in that pit/prison a long time before Bane showed up, paralysed and waiting for death. Bane just placed him there physically.
@@l555mat8 How has Bruce’s soul and spirit been trapped in the pit even before Bane came into the picture? This was the first time Bruce was even in the pit.
@@nateborie6329 have you not seen the film? He’s a recluse, he’s not been seen in public for years. When he returns as Batman, Alfred is concerned that he Bruce doesn’t care if he’s going to die or not. The pit is a metaphor
@@l555mat8 The pit is both a figurative and literal place, but Bruce was never there before, during, or after he became Batman. Now, if at any time he trained with Ra's he was taken to the pit to train, maybe some part of him was left there, but I highly doubt it.
@@ironfist7789 the rope is already tied up top. It’s what allows them to lower prisoners & supplies into the pit. Notice the bucket which is tied to the string, and how he just picks up the rope and drops it in.

1:05 I like that Christopher chose an actor who sounded very much like Michael Caine to be his companion in the Lazarus Pit. Because even though they were worlds apart, Bruce still had an Alfred there with him in some form.
i love the change of tone in the soundtrack at 1:48 it so suits this scene in its true message of resilience and not giving up even if crap hits the fan.
This is my favorite movie scene of all time. The prison sometimes is our own mind. The fear of not knowing if you're going to make it keeps you locked in that prison until you take a leap of faith. The inmates chanting rise is our self conscious digging deep and getting riled up to make the leap. When we preserver we feel ultimate victory and become stronger then we were before. Sometimes we need to be completely broken in order to be rebuilt even better. This scene is powerful metaphor for life and will stick with me forever.
Background score + Direction + Acting = Mindblowing scene. It's been 9 years since "The Dark Knight Rises" released and till now this scene still gives me chills!
i swear this scene hypes me up and the symbolism of it brings tears to my eyes. All of us have that inner hero and we must go through some of the roughest obstacles in life to rise to the occasion 🙏🔥
Saw this with my Mom alongside me on opening night. She passed in '18, but I'm so glad I got to share the moment with her when those bats emerged to guide Bruce. They were waiting for him.
No, Bruce Wayne is a play boy billionaire who is ruthless, Batman is the complete opposite, Bruce Wayne is like that so the world doesn’t find out that Bruce Wayne isn’t Batman
@@semelatifofalism5833 The point, as pointed out in Batman Begins that it is the Bruce Wayne character that is the mask whilst Batman is the person whom he truly is. Its one of the things that makes batman so interesting IMO.
@@semelatifofalism5833 you can say that for the other stuff, but Nolan’s TDK actually has a Bruce Wayne, a Bruce that got his freedom and love. This Bruce is more than Batman.
I have watched this film countless times and this scene never fails to give me goosebumps. Everything about it, from the camera angles, the mounting suspense, the chanting of the prison inmates and Hans Zimmer ingenious, emotionally gripping score. This scene summarizes Bruce Wayne's entire arc. He was once Batman, but was left beaten and broken, physically and mentally at the bottom of this pit, forced to helplessly watch his city suffer. However, despite all his adversity, Bruce never gives up. He rebuilds his body from the ground up and regains his identity as Batman again. The exact moment the goosebumps take hold is when the bats fly out of the crack in the wall. Bruce flinches at first, harkening back to his fear of them as a child, but then he lets them fly around him. At this point, he is Batman in his heart and mind again, even without the suit and gadgets. Once he makes that final, near-impossible jump, the hero of Gotham has returned better than ever before. This is why it is my single favorite scene in the entire Dark Knight Trilogy.
God I love this scene. One of my favourite movie sequences of all time. And I especially love how he drops them the rope at the end, quickly and simply.
Ironic how he gets fear about death back in life and it actually is how he gets over the biggest obstacle of his life that might risk him death. Best scene of all batman cinematic series.
This trilogy and it’s symbolisms… man they can almost make u tear up. Wether u are going through depression or hard times in life, you are symbolically climbing rising and climbing out of your own pit. This was just like when Bruce fell into that well as boy and his father came and saved him. But his father was the safety rope. Now he didn’t have his father, he needed to climb it himself… without the rope. Just like Bruce used fear to strike it into the hearts of criminals he needed to use the fear he had of dying in that pit to motivate him to escape it. The fear of death is the biggest motivator in life, it’s what allowed him to rise.
1:51 is the moment when you have all victoryies and you retired when you are done and then you must have a comeback and you get very badly beaten up but you think it is all over but time geting back and you are making a real big great comeback and rise once again.

For me this scenes represents my depression a dark abyss of internal pain. Like Bruce Wayne I suffer from the lost of my three family members. I dream of them wishing it was me who died. Ever since my sister pasted away my pain pushed me to become smarter better and I do have my moments in sorrow and pain! I learned so much from a man who doesn’t exist in real life but in my soul he is very real. Funny thing is that my friends called me Batman or Bruce Wayne haha. But In the end it was hell of life !!
today, I'm at the lowest point in life, I'm surrounded by hell lot of problems from all possible directions....this scene perfectly fits my situation and only leap of giant faith with bail me out of this big crisis...and surely I'll find my way out...coz the problems and situations and bad consequences that i faced forged me into much stronger individual physically and most importantly mentally than I was in the past...
I'll never forget seeing this for the first time in the theater. During this scene, everyone in my audience was in complete silence. When Bruce caught the ledge, the audience erupted. I miss movie theater experiences like that.
1:55 a perfect juxtaposition to when he embraced the bats in the batcave in batman begins, this is the moment he truly becomes batman again spiritually
One of the best scenes in the trilogy. I got chills the first time watching it in theater and the doctor said "Then fear will find you again" It was over for the League of Shadows right then and there lol.
Tf is that even supposed to mean? My god, it’s lIke those dumbass circlejerk comments on Star Wars videos where people are like “tHiS iS beTtEr tHaN tHe enTiRe sEQuEl trIlOgy”
This entire sequence was so perfectly written that it could be its own short film. I remember crying when I saw this in theaters, because Nolan so perfectly took the audience (me) and put us in Bruces shoes. At a time in my life I had so many fears and doubts and limitations-all self imposed. It perfectly portrayed a conversation that my mind and heart had daily. Bruce/Batman aside, the Pitt to me represented Heaven+Hell, the climb to me represented my physical body going through the journey of breaking the limitations of my mind and the Rope represents Lack of Faith in God and instead living life in comfort failing to have faith in God and forever being bound by putting faith in the wrong things- The bottom of the Pitt represents Hell, eternal darkness bound by the limitation of your own mind, chained and in a jail cell that you have the power to escape as long as you're able and willing to master your mind and break the bounds that are holding you in your own hell. The top of the Pitt represents Heaven/ Freedom on he journey to breaking your own limitations you'll have to put in work, you'll need to climb to heights that make you uncomfortable having faith in your plan, idea, your calling and that everything you believe in is now in Gods hands because you're climbing with out a rope - without a safety net- you either live or you die trying. Once Bruce is at the peak and at his final objection as high as he can get with out his rope, (your own final objection) the enemy ( I call him Satan) will cast his final objection into scaring you and making you doubt everything you've done to get where you are so that you can fall. Once Bruce faces his fears and has faith and is wiling to die- that is when the miracle happens and the realization, that you never needed the rope in the first place- that freedom took a leap of faith into the discomfort and unknown so that you can grow- Once at the top you're free, once you've overcome those limitations the Panning of Bruce walking into the world represents a world that you can't even IMAGINE because you haven't taken the first step into breaking your limits. When Bruce is having that conversation in his it symbolized his Mind and Heart having an exchange, Bruce being the conscious mind had been lying to himself, he had been avoiding his fears, doubts and limitations- never truly facing them, nor feeling working to overcoming them. His heart knew exactly what he needed to do to escape and reminded him on what exactly he needed to do to escape and once he accepted that, his spirit was rejuvenated- The spirit was represented by the men hyping him up to "RISE". As well as those men also represented different past versions of himself that no longer served him which were also caged and trapped but also craved freedom because they were him. You can actually see that of all the men cheering there was one man that didn't- that was the latest version of Bruce- himself, the one full of doubt, the one full of anger, self pity, and lack of confidence, and living in the past. Bruce managed to put them behind and grow into the person he needed to be to face his challenge and find freedom. It was an amazing sequence that spoke to me in that way and this is why it's my all time favorite. It allowed the audience go through that journey and see Bruce RISE as well as yourself. A physiological breakdown perfectly put together in this sequence. Nothing will top this for me.
And the things we have to overcome to reach where God has called us. And note he made the climb on the third try, which represents completion in the Bible.
This scene tells us one very important thing. Let nothing hold you back. Fear can be a powerful thing for good, but it can also hold you back. Let fear inspire you to great things, not limit you to what you can achieve. All you need is the will and determination to see it through. Even if you think it’s impossible. Rise.
Manic Rhymes The pit was made from scratch which is amazing. But I think he’s talking about when he escapes the pit. I think the area is set in India maybe.
Yes but the scene consist of 2 different locations. The scene where bruce comes to the top of the pit, we can see the Mehrangarh fort in the background. If you search Mehrangarh fort in google maps you can also see the pit's location marked near it. And the inside of the pit scene where we can see the stairs, that scene was shot at Chand Bawri, Step Well, Abhaneri, Rajasthan (India).
This movie certainly isn't perfect but you cant deny the high points, and this scene is an example. There is an absolute, undeniable emotional power to this moment. The blind man's speech, the cinematography, the music, the chanting.... it all culminates into something absolutely stunning.
I love the overt symbolism: As a child his father had to carry him out of the well, but now, as a man, he must carry himself out, Bats and all.
I punched my damn bed wall when I saw the bats flying out recently, I forgot that happened lol.

You guys are wrong, wrong, wrong. He got erectile dysfunction from his flawed jump. He went blind because one of the bats is a reincarnation of Thomas Wayne who decided to put his bat pecker in the doctors eye to teach him humility.
But if he had jumped without the rope, he would have died. Anyone help me understand why him jumping the rope was a better option?
At first I thought batman is just a billionaire with some tech and some fighting skills. And I always preferred iron man over batman. But the way Christopher Nolan wrote the Trilogy I must say batman's story is the most inspiring and its a true masterpiece.
Oh , you seriously need to catch up on some real batman stuff.
Ohh kid, iron man doesn't inspire like the batman does.
Batman is the worlds best superhero. This is not because he has powers like superman, tech like iron man, magic of dr fate or speed of flash. He has something stronger his will power. The most awesome thing about batman is how many times you break him in end he always wins. The best superhero ever.

Btw. this scene is so powerful and timeless! Everyday we fight our own battles and sometimes we give up for a little thing, but we are able of such great things! I just love the legacy of this scene
No he didn’t. That’s the point of this scene. He didn’t know if he was going to die or not. That gave him fear, which in turn gave him strength.
I don't think that it's so much as he knew he would make it, i think he was just accepting that whether he rises or falls, this would be his final attempt and that he wouldn't be living in the pit anymore.
"How can you move faster then possible, fight longer then possible. Without the most powerful impulse of the spirit.... the fear of death"
This might be one of the most powerful lines I have ever heard in a film. Brilliant!
When the old man starts chanting. I lose it every time. He knew the strength Bruce had. He even gave in to hope.

We all grow up in a pit. The pit of our ego, our hate and our arrogance. Some of us manages to escape that pit and then throw the rope in the pit for others to escape as well. Unfortunately most of the people decides to ignore that help.

DarkDoughnutsVids it does indeed. I always wanted a bat suit as a kid lol.
It’s the man that makes the suit not the suit that makes the man. If Bruce was nothing without the suit then he shouldn’t deserve it.

I've used the music from this scene for my wake up alarm for about 5 years now. I love that it starts out calm and builds slowly.

Amen beautifully explained, I'm sure this resembles many of our lives.
Rise.
