    He's Dick Grayson because he's orphaned at a young age.
    He's Jason Todd because of that anger in his bones.
    And finally, he's Tim Drake because of those excellent detective skills.

      @Sawngawkuh 7 лет назад +848

      While one can interpret it in that way, I'm pretty sure it was just them using the typical sewer gator urban legend to express their disbelief towards the guy. Characters who point out how paranoid and delusional others are often refer to said legend. "Chasing sewer gators" and all that. It's become such a ridiculously common go to reference for investigative brush offs in stories that it being a nod towards Killer Croc could have been a happy accident.

    • @blankerism
      @blankerism 7 лет назад +365

      even if its coincidence. This isn't the first time a reference was made towards characters in the comics in dialogue that Nolan inserted. In Batman Begins, a reference was made to Cats, implying a nod to the Catwoman when Fox is showing Bruce the body armor that would become the bat suit. Other references are to hard to ignore as a happy accident. Such as the reference to Mr Freeze and Clayface as well. Fox in this film talks to Wayne about his visit to Wayne Tower to the effect of him waking up from his "cryo-sleep" a nod to the way Mr Freeze froze his wife as he searched for a cure.

    • @h.b.smith_writer
      @h.b.smith_writer 3 года назад +12

      @Signore Colomma Actually no. This scene alludes to that certain people suspected that Bruce was Batman. Blake saw through the playboy persona and reasoned that Bruce must've been him, it wasn't just from a look as some people thought. Most of these alleged plot holes are explainable.

    • @h.b.smith_writer
      @h.b.smith_writer 3 года назад +3

      @Signore Colomma It's not nonsense as I've already stated. Some people bitched as to why nobody suspects that Bruce was Batman in the first two films and this scene actually debunks that. Blake's personal connection with Batman is made and how he became a legend among the orphans, also shown by the boy Mark who Blake visits before this scene. Many consider it to be the least but there are also plenty who consider it better than Batman Begins, and a number who think it's the best (including some professional film critics).

  • @tannermaxwell7321

    A thing I now realized about this scene was the realization of the negatives that have occurred in not only Batman’s absence, but Bruce’s too. A true representation that if you are a good man you must not stand by and expect the world to work things out itself.

    • @mansoorahmed1676
      @mansoorahmed1676 Год назад +8

      That was the goal to be able to leave Gotham without needing batman, and have a real hero like dent. This was the point of taking the fall for dent and the laws passed in his name was what kept the streets cleaned and he thought the world didn’t need him anymore. However it was built upon a lie and the truth finally comes through years later in the form of bane and the underground army riding where batman can finally make the sacrifice to inspire hope based on the truth and not a lie. The parallels and allegories to Jesus in the last movie as dent was a Christ like figure who died for gothams sins and was reborn as a symbol was based upon a lie kind of like is the first believers lied about Christ being reborn to spread the religion. Cant say what happened in real life but that being drawn into the parallels for a tale of 2 cities in the dark knight rises is why Christopher nolan is a genius. It didn’t work as well as it could have as it was more messy than the dark knight but this trilogy and director is goated and it’s so much more than batman beating up a bunch of criminals

    • @mysteryace2129
      @mysteryace2129 8 месяцев назад +2

      @mansoorahmed1676 no the point was Batman was an idea. Not a messiah figure which Bruce in his previous mindset before Bane had a near martyr like death wish that he needed to change and Alfred saw that. Batman doesn't need to be the end all be all. Bruce can help Gotham in more ways than just being Batman. Harvey, being the fallen hero/idol was something Bruce envisioned Batman of being but chose Harvey because he had an actual face to his deeds. It exposed that putting a normal man in the same messiah standing like Jesus Christ isn't possible as again we are just normal men. We are easy to be corrupted which is what happened to Dent along with Bruce with his own hubris. The DKR shows that Batman at the end stands as a symbol of duty not an idol or Martyr. That anyone can answer the call of duty in Gotham when the time comes. The duty that Batman took a bomb across the bay or Police officers storming a large number of terrorists after being stuck underground for a long time. There is no difference in meaning between these 2 actions as both did it as that is what needed to be done.

And for a few, you can tell who had to go through similar experiences just by looking at their faces, the way they move or "hide" it. So it's not such a far stretch people. Plus, he probably based some few facts as well: the money needed to become Batman, physical posture and build, etc etc.

      But he was able to deduce it based on evidence. Tim (a fan of the circus) saw a move that Robin did which he recognized as something only Dick Grayson did. Blake did no such thing. He went from Bruce is an angry orphan to he must be Batman. Gordon was completely taken aback, like he had NEVER thought of such a thing. There's willful ignorance, and then there's just plain gullibility.

    The words that describe best this scene, in my opinion: a masterly piece of acting. Being in a room with the great Christian Bale and his massive character, The Batman, and manage to steal his thunder, with a role that may have seemed minor at first; well, that is the sign of major talent. It's actually a moving scene, especially the part about the anger he feels as an orphan, and he conveys that admirably. Hats off to the marvelous Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who's gotten better and better over the years and is a joy to watch! 🙏🏻

So now you've got a whole pile of yahoos who geniunely believe Blake divined Batmans identity by recognizing a forced smile on Bruce years ago. Obviously Blake had a lot more leading up to that conclusion than that. Hell, it shouldn't have been THAT difficult to narrow down the list of possible candidates. What this scene really conveys is how smart Blake really is...and how much he and Wayne are alike.

    Don't really get how people forget the lines in Blake's monologue where he says he and the orphans, out of awe of billionaire Bruce, would make stories about him. Legends. And how only the other orphan kids would treat them just as stories vs. Blake who took them seriously. Basically, Blake did not say "Bruce is hiding his anger --therefore, he is Batman". He says that he and the other kids thought Bruce was awesome since he was rich. So, they made a story/legend about him where he is Batman, since Bruce is rich and little kids love Batman (shown by the bat symbol chalk drawings). But, only Blake took the story seriously since he knew that Bruce was hiding something through his fake persona.

My mom died 2 months ago and I watched this again. I only now realise how it suits me. I have always been angry, but to others, I had to put on a smile. I had always been depressed but to others had to force out a laugh. And now all I hear is I understand what you are going through. That is only until the shock of what happened is over. But when the door stops ringing with people offering their sympathies, people have moved on they expect me to do the same. I know I cant, I am 16 and my mother is gone but they expect me to get over it. But when they see I cant, they just cast me out. Treat me as if I am below them. A cry for help is just a noise in the background to them.This quote never used to mean anything to me, but now it is the fuel driving me forward. This is the first comment I have ever made of this type but anyone struggling the way I did, PM me. Because I truly understand, not just temporarily get it.

My Dad died when I started high school, I was so angry for so long, and watching each movie in this trilogy is the only thing that got me through it. Seeing someone turn something so horrible into something positive was inspiring. When I look back on these movies, they chronicle my battle with depression, and they mean so much to me, I will never forget this movie, this scene. The end to Bruce's story helped me to realize that I'm ready to move on too, to not runaway from what has happened, but to put all my anxiety in a box and just find a better place for it. That’s the scene when she asked Batman who he was, and he repeated her words back to her, “It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you” right before leaping from the top of St.Smithens. Ya know, I know it's a movie... but that's true. People understand until they don't. They run out of patience and want you to just "be better." But you can't. Without a miracle, you'll always have that wound. Always.

    some people aren't satisfied with what I do, they want me to be someone I can't be no matter how much I tried, it makes me angrier than I have ever been in life, then I watch this clip and I realise getting angry is not the right move, i just need to practice smiling in the mirror and it helps so much

      Saif Ahmed I agree. My dad would definitely agree with you on all that, since this movie is his favorite in the series. But I, & I guess others, felt like it was a bit of a step-down from Dark Knight

      Scenes like this were obviously great, but the overall movie was indeed shit. First of all it took like an hour and a half before the movie finally started. And if you look at it from a cinemagraphic standpoint the filming and choreography of the fight scenes were pretty terrible. Extra's falling in the background without something even happening, shooting in thin air, walking in the wrong directions and don't even get me started on the first fight scene between batman and Bain when he broke his back, I actually laughed at that scene. It was a mess, Based on Christopher Nolans usually fantastic work, this looked more like a film school project sometimes. The dark knight will always remain a masterpiece, but this one isn't nearly on the same level. I wish it were, because it had so much potential.

      @@chiraine1 No, the fight scenes were actually very practical though there are a few background mistakes. The film took an hour and half before anything? Did you smoke something? There was character development and building up to Batman's return to Gotham and Bane's revolution throughout the first half of the film.
