Same. And then, during the GT3 era, I discovered Initial D.
It made me go from being a ricer arcade racer to being a Motorsports enthusiast. And yes it took my love of cars to astronomical levels.

3 major memories for me
1. Buying a 20" TV and a PS1 and a SCART cable (for the best image quality) just because of GT1
2. Waiting at my local shopping centre for it opening to buy GT2 after I managed to get in by pretending to be staff
3. Taking a days holiday off work to wait for delivery of the GT5 Collector's Edition and taking photo's of the delivery van as it arrived

Before i took my drivers test in 2008 my father made me get gold on all licenses available for gt 4. Since then I've been hooked on the game.

Remember being excited to buy GT3 as a kid. However, when i got to the shop, i saw that GT4 had just been released. One of the best days ever :P

I think you undersold what GT Academy has done for Jann. There are 3 races that are super prestigious, Monco GP in F1, the Indy 500 in IndyCar and the most prestigious of them all, LeMans 24 Hours in multiple classes. Jann drives in LMP1, the fastest of all the categories. There are F1 drivers that dream of being able todo that, matter of fact Jann drove against Webber and Hulkenburge. The Nissan with its radical design elements never stood a chance of winning, but he was there, a PlayStation gamer, racing in LMP1 at the most prestigious race of them all
L P LeMans 24 hours over Monaco GP over Indy 500.
That is the order, some would argue the Indy 500 is more prestigious than Monaco because of it being counted towards the F1 WDC in the 50s also
Yea, people like to mock GT Academy or the thought of Gran Turismo potentially translating to real racing skills, but there are examples of high end professional drivers coming out of the game.
M Wadud, "There are F1 drivers that dream of being able todo that" - they are all able, dude. They just have no time to do that in addition to their F1 career, have better options in other racing series (when they can't race in F1) or have no interest in endurance races.

Same I had GT4 when I was 4 years old (Ilum innatis confirmated :0) and then I lost the PlayStation now at 12 years old found it but without the game so now I will buy Gran Turismo 4 again :')

GT has a very impressive history. Embracing VR is a pretty big deal, though I wish it had been taken further.
I am beginning to prefer VR games to traditional games. And this is strange considering that VR games tend to have far less depth. There is something exhilarating by being inside of a world, rather than watching it on a flat, 2D screen.
Sean Lumly I would not want to play horror games in VR. They're scary enough watching playthroughs
True VR mode is half-assed at the moment.
1. Tsukuba
2. More of the older cars like Supra, R32, RX7, E46, muscle cars and so on!! Not just modern cars!
3. Career mode
4. Proper upgrade and maintenance shop like GT6
5. Make drifting easier on controller, make it less snappy
6. More tracks in general like ebisu?
MultiTerpen drifting on controller is easy just practice
I really miss Costa di Amalfi. It was my favorite track in GT4 and I wish they'd bring it back.
I used it as my test track whenever I bought a new car.
Just imagine how good it'd look on these consoles.
I'm happy that GT is a big part of my childhood.

they need to add the Famous castol supra and old 90s cars in gt it cant be gran Turismo without them legendary cars... 1000bgp that is japans main car they should have this in gt sport will neevr get old supra lol
You could still do that in GT4. But yea, GT3 was probably my favorite of all time due to how much I played it back then and how it felt like it opened the series up a lot compared to 1 and 2.

Playing online in GT6 from 2014-2016 was one the best periods of my life and me and my friends can't wait to FINALLY get our hands on Sport.
I am very proud to say that I have been a fan since, yes, December 1997. I bought the game as an import (Tekken PS1 boot trick!) the month it released when I found it in a video game store in New York City. I first saw the game in a magazine as a preview; I specifically remember a blue Honda Civic (DX?) hatchback in the preview picture and thought, "This game is going to be everything I've ever wanted… A racing game with actual cars that you see every day, not just race cars"… Exceptional work, each and every time. Long live GT!
GT5 had over 1,000 cars... but over 100 of them were just different variations of the Nissan Skyline / GT-R! 🙄
And miata's, RX7's , NSX's...etc. lol.

No career mode. No game :( and I was a hardcore GT player. Golden license on all licenses and finished every endurance race on GT1-2.
Mister Ree You're not alone mate. I think a lot of us old GT players are steering clear of this game.

i have never completed a Forza game, not even 1/2, but i've gone 95% -100% on every Gran Turismo i've played....
21. Dodge Viper GTS has better grip than Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 in Gran Turismo 1.

Awesome facts here. I remember that scratch ‘n’ sniff disc. The smell was still there when I sold it! Because Polyphony Digital took it to a new level with each console generation, I just sold off the previous ones. Now I have a pang of regret, seeing the rich history of GT here.
3:15 Initial D coming over here also helped. That anime came out around 1998, the same time GT1 hit American markets.

I’m a big fan of these game. But I was so disappointed to see it didn’t have career mode and the lack of Car and the upgrades for them. This is the first time I wanted to return the game.

The very first video game I ever played and owned was GT1 on the PS1. Then, seeing how much I played the game, my uncle gave me a PS2 with GT3 and GT Concept, and I also played them a lot. I've got at least 1 GT game per PlayStation generation except for the PS4 because I'm not very interested in GT Sport.
The game that made me into a petrolhead and car enthusiast, teaches me the basics of the racing world and car brand,models, oh and introduced me some fine jazz,lounge music

And the influences from Motor Toon still could be felt on Gran Turismo - Toon Island II/Night Island from Motor Toon 2 is actually the base for High Speed Ring in Gran Turismo.
This new 'history of games' style video was really cool to see and I'd love more of them - though I assume you probably don't have the time to make this a regular feature :/
I learned to drive a real car after countless hours on gt2, gt3 a-spec, and (finally with a proper wheel controller - the driving force ex) gt4. Great drive down memory lane!
GT2 gives me a nostalgia overload of my one of my favourite childhood games. GT3 was so far ahead of its time. Even the visuals now days are acceptable. GT5 online with a big group of friends was superb. I absolutely love this series and IMO no other racing series is remotely as good. Hopefully I’ll pick up a ps4 and GT sport soon because this video made me miss the series.

you're right but in this case "turismo" is a Spanish/ Italian word, so the British pronounciation doesn't really make sense.

I actually liked the gran turismo psp feature of being able to upload your cars from that game to GT 5.

GT4 is still one of my favorite car simulator. I still smile thinking about it.
I don't ever remember having the Gran Turismo 4 Nike shirt or the eye toy. But I still had access to the Nike One car
the only racing game ever to teach players how to actually drive a race car/ drive a car in general, that is why its my favorite racing game. on summer vacation i pretty much lived on Gran Turismo 4 i just hope that if they do make a gran turismo 7 that it will have all the car from the previous games all 1300+ without forcing online connection to play like they did with sport.
Favorite GT memory, playing with a wheel for the first time, it actually made me a better driver in real life

PAragon Bytes I have played the game only 4 times not much but I get something new everyone I play the game.
I knew every nook and cranny of the map but missed 1 or 2 things. Only 99.8% completion each time. But the story and side missions were so good that I really liked doing them all over again and I also hoped to find what I'd missed out before.
Is the game playable off line, apart from the online races?
I mean, can the game run if there is no internet connection?
I know.
And save is only available if you are connected, same goes for photo mode and the majority of the things single player related.

GT sport isn'tlike the other GT games, it's made to be a competitive e-sport instead of an all-rounder semi-simulator like the others, hence the "Sport" branding.

The scratch and sniff feature of GT2 was widely known at release. It smelt a little rubbery and petroly. Although, I suppose youngsters wouldn't know that. Or people who just didn't know at the time. :D

The original game captures here look brilliant...my heart is making me want to believe that all of the old GT games will be released on PS4!
I remember I used to come home from school early just to play gt3 on my ps 2.......the good old days :')
I remembered in the PS2 days, I had to skip school for 2 days just to get the F1 cars in the 24H Nurburgring.
(PS2 turn ON for 24 hours, b-spec, check console every 15 or 30 minutes for refuel and tyre change, eat, sleep, watch a movie and play basketball in between.) NEVER AGAIN.lol
I've never actually seen a video breaking down GT like this. In the couple of years I've been watching gaming videos, I firmly believe it would be my choice of a racing game. Heck, the amount of people who bought and had faith in GT2 despite lesser graphics the the original proves it's power.
I never knew about the scratch and smell disk 2 , so then I immediately looked for my gt2 disk 2 and was surprised

When I was little i got to play gt1 Japanese version cuz my local game store had it, instantly sold and have owned all since.
I belive the car list is going to do something similar for GT Sport that it did for GT 1 and 2, start out small(150 cars) and end big (mabye 7 or 800 cars for GT8)
I miss GT-3 it was such a gem, amazing music just the right number of maps and customization. Can't say I'm overly excited for GT Sport however, other games seem to have it beat in graphics/sounds and number of cars. If they drive even close to what GT does then I have no reason to pick it up.

When I played gt4 it was like an RPG, like grinding and unlocking. And the best part is the music.
I like to call it a caRPG :P

Gran Turismo is the best track racing series ever created. Whether you love or hate GT Sport you gotta admit that GT is still the best track racing series.
