Nice little channel you have here, hope you continue to develop and grow. we have 40k creators coming out of our ears but not lots of fantasy so I'm all for it! a nice voice doesn't hurt either!
Imagine growing up with all of this lore, reading countless novels, spending thousands of hours playing total War warhammer, and then going to your local Games Workshop store to pick up some miniatures ... only to find that everything had been replaced by Age of Sigmar. This was me, a few years back. Still one of the most bewildering experiences of my life. It just didn't make any sense. I stood there, looking at all of the weird AoS stuff, thinking, "Why? Why did you kill off WHFB?" To this day, I can't get excited about AoS, for the simple reason that the whole enterprise just makes no sense. GW missed a huge opportunity in their bid to chase $$$ with a new game and a younger crowd of players who don't care about the lore.
Well you see they bit off their nose to spite their face. Higher ups didn't like that they couldn't copyright the names of the factions. Like Dwarfs, Lizardmen, etc. So they needed a new game to change the names of the factions. So they killed the franchise at the same time it was gaining massivly in popularity.
@@totallynottrademarked5279 I wonder if they've spent more money rebuilding the entire game/world/armies then they would have lost by people making similar miniatures.
The thing is, total warhammer was the reason why so many people actually got interested in the world of warhammer fantasy. Before that it was doing so horrible that they made more from their painting tools sales then with actual sales of warhammer fantasy models and the 8th edition rules were notoriously *bad*. Interesting lore or not, it didn't sell, the game played badly and the barrier to entry was so high (requiring several hundreds dollars worth of models for a starter army without even the books.) that the only people who played where people who already had their armies. age of sigmar was released in 2015. Total warhammer 1 released in 2016. Keep in mind that the entire age of sigmar thing would've required several years of work beforehand and the decision to discontinue warhammer fantasy battles was probably made somewhere in the 2012 or so and work began on the age of sigmar line. So honestly, to me it does make sense. They just severely botched the age of sigmar launch and didn't anticipate a niche game like total war:warhammer would reignite interest as much as it did. I mean, the three total warhammer games have sold more copies then all other total war titels together. Nobody expected it to be a hit at all when they lent out the licence. and frankly, I'm glad they *did* kill warhammer fantasy battles. Because the 8th edition was unplayable and now we get warhammer old world. Which hopefully starts from a clean slate and gets us some decent rules.
@@exewon I enjoyed 8th edition. It was highly nuanced though and difficult to be "good" at it. AoS was a breath of fresh air, faster games, pretty fun too. I understand why they did what they did...it did sorta need to die and I think it will help them with old world to be honest.

This is the game I wanted to play back in 2000, when 6th edition came out. But even though I got the starter set, I never had a chance to actually play.
While people still play "Oldhammer" around the world, and Games Workshop coming out with a renewed version of Warhammer on table top within a year I believe, I would heavily suggest you check out Kings of War as the go-to fantasy wargame at the moment. It was designed and is maintained by those who originally built the foundation of Warhammer 6th, having founded a new company for the game. An excellent experience, a modern take on the fantasy wargaming tradition, easily accessible for hobbyists and played globally.
There are plenty of REAL enemies of the Empire out there before we start inventing giant rat men in the sewers. I'll grant you, some of the rats in the tavern cellars can grow pretty large, but these stories only come after someone has had far too many ales!

Damn alot of people whining about AoS, it was needed. You may be one of those few good players but 95% of that fan base was toxic as hell, the rules were so majorly over complicated that rules lords would self fellatiate for hours about them. AoS is quick, clean and fun most of the time, but has enough back end to make more drawn out battles and home brew. I like the setting better, because its just Fantasy turned up to 11. The models are better, the old one looked like Hanna Barbara cartoons. Literally all the same faction just even better, many of the same characters. With the new realm of 8 and then outside realms we could add faction at nauseum and it would make lore sense. Fanatsys problem is and will always be it was a tiny Pangea so when shit popped it made little sense to involve only the "Ubstriek 5" or "G&F" Literally after awhile all the factions were largely piled on each other like in TW which again makes no fucking sense. So the Empire is famous for black powder and offensive magics. Yet we didn't bomb the fuck out of all the KNOWN Skaven capitals. More of why Fantasy hurts its self, its so contradictory to everything it sets up. Vermentide is a holiday (for those unaware) happens every year and often leads to a city assault or "great plan", so if this happens every few year (say they don't raid but every 5) how are rat men a myth? How is it that a Reiklander has never seen an elf but those exist? Even WH can't explain how somethings are North Korea tight around propaganda and what people believe but at the same time falling to chaos constantly. I'm not saying that AoS doesn't have issues but it has rectified what I thought were alot of dumb situations that forced writers to either be bogged down or have to break set lore pieces.

The ‘trash’ aspect of a Bretonian frontline is one of the highlights imo - stinky peasants with not a hope in hell just holding out long enough for the damn near immortal, shining knights of the lady to crash into the rear of their foes and break them is just perfect.
