I was always a huge Skaven fan, then I read The Doom of Kasavar and now I'm just scared of them. Seriously, just imagine; You're in your home, it's late at night and stormy so it's pitch black. You're doing dishes or some other chore when you notice something move outside, looked like a person but hunched over and draped in torn dirty cloth, then another, and then three more, ten, twenty, and so on until it's just a wave of them in the street. Looking on in horror you notice one climb out of the rushing crowd onto something tall, like a lamppost or a car. It stops and gazes around before it's eyes fall on to your terrified expression, in the light you can see it's some huge rat creature with glowing green eyes, you look at each other for a while before it slinks back into the crowd. Then, you start hearing banging on your door, then all your windows, then through every single wall. I just scared myself.
Now imagine hearing the faint scratching beneath your feet. Something is digging up towards you. Skaven as an idea are absolutely terrifying. Snikch is terrifying beyond that. Queek is absolutely insane/oddly intelligent, Ikit will gladly use you and your kin for weapons testing, Throt will gladly use you for parts or eat you alive on a whim. @@kevincass9917 Hi, I'm not familiar with the tabletop game, I only played Vermintide and now Warhammer Total War. Why is it dead? Does it mean no new figures are going to be made?
@@user-dj6sk2uo8g So, Warhammer Fantasy had a massive event that would launch into its newest edition, but GW wanted to relaunch Fantasy into Age of Sigmar, which streamlined the game and made it easier to play, but unfortunately destroyed the world in the process. The figures for the tabletop were renamed and brought into Age of Sigmar, but a couple armies like Bretonnia, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts and more were dropped completely. The Old World was completely gone, but lately GW announced they're bringing back the Old World, potentially for a new iteration of Warhammer Fantasy.
Just started reading the Felix and Gotrek Books, and I loved every moment of Skavenslayer. The skaven were such good villains, and damn entertaining to read, while being equal parts cartoon villain and still horrifying grimdark monsters that were terrifying to read about. They spent half the book killing and sabotaging each other, while the people of Nuln suffered their machinations. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy, it's a wonderful story
You know, something I never see mentioned. Someone had to COME UP WITH THIS. You know? Some person was sitting at home or work, probably at night, and said. "I need something to spice up this world...what could I possibly bring to the table? I have horrors of the beyond, I have c'thulu, I have racism, I have tyrany, I have BDSM elves, I have monsters and orcs, I have a bunch of different races. I have a TON of problems that could be solved with half way decent or even attempted communication. What am I missing...what could I possibly add...what would fit in and not feel...out of place...Maybe...animal people? But I already have beast men...but then again...they are ludites...What more could I make? Maybe something common...something simple but preying upon the oldest fears we have. What could it be..." Just then a rat trap snaps and he hears the squeal cut short. "Oh, that'd work."
on the tilean myth: not only did they make a tower of babel- like structure, both them and the dwarves refused to just leave their city when they had more than enough time, implying the city had an overly-materialistic lifestyle. does this part of the story come from another myth i dont know? the story makes it kind of seem like the skaven were a punishment from the gods for that city's decadence.
I'm so proud to be part of such an inspiring community, not only was this short film absolutely amazing, but the compilation of art, cinematics, music, gameplay, the hordes of models, it's all unbelievably cool to someone who has just gotten into Age of Sigmar and started building up their own little army!
Same, luckily as the Wolf King once told us, a man can only be brave and forge his Saga when he is afraid for the cornered Wolf is the most deadly of all beasts.
This video makes me evermore certain that Warhammer is not like other fantasy universes. If you like Harry Potter, you'd like to live in that world. If you're into WoW, you'd want to explore its secrets. If you are up on your Warhammer lore, you Don't want to live in Warhammer World (even more so with 40k). Between Skaven, Green Skins, all the diferent types of Undeath, and of course Chaos, as well as astronomical amounts of Racism, Despair, War, Death, Crime, etc. you'd be happy to say you lived out a single day in peace. It's absolutely amazing to read and listen about, but horrifying to think of experiencing. Either way, great video. The Narrative was great and the Visuals were On Point! This is one of the best Warhammer related Videos I've watched in a long While :D Keep up the Amazing Work!
I mean no offense, but I don't think I'd want to live in Warcraft's world either with Black Dragons, Old Gods, Undead, Naga, Demons and other things, aswell as a global crisis every other year :P

Of all the high fantasy material I consumed through the years, there's no fantasy race more vile than the Skaven. Games Workshop took the black plague concept to heart, lol And to mix steampunk tech with all the bizarre shit was a really good choice.
Absolutely love this. With this level of editing and epic, I'd love to see lizardmen (seraphon) down the line if its not already done. The story was one I did not know and frankly, was rather biblical.
I asked my friend, once, why there didn’t seem to be any female skaven. He quickly told me, “we don’t talk about the female skaven.” I was confused and looked it up. We don’t talk about the female skaven.

I challenge you as your series finale, the end times with many clips from battles and fights from the total war warhammer 2 (and/or 3 if it comes out before you make a vid about it) i know several people don't like the end times but i think it would be one heck of a video series ending, but until that day comes, which i hope not, you make really awesome videos no one else thought of using total war warhammer 2 clips as part of warhammer fantasy lore videos, my point is i love your vids and keep on doing them
Amazing video! One question: who exactly WAS the stranger who offered to finish the tower? Was he a champion of the Great Horned Rat? An avatar of the Rat? Or something else? What could that else be?
The skaven's only real "badguy meta" angle is the bit where they can harness warpstone. They (the book of choyer) totally overlooked the driving force behind the entire race, but it was nice to have a different, refreshing take on the subject. See all the glowy green bits, stones, tubes, decorations and weapon attachments? All warpstone. And what's warpstone you might ask? It's the chaotic fantasy version of raw force and power weapons; with a dash of transmutation properties. Most of their monstrous experiments like rat ogres and abominations simply aren't possible without warpstone. And only because they have some kind of biological affinity for the stuff. Basically you'll know some warpstone didn't agree with the skaven touching it if the shard/boulder decides to explode in his hand. Otherwise it can be utilized by warlocks for healing powders, boon potions of random properties, and borderline orcish building instincts.. except, on the biological warfare side of things. Any other races typically require some alignment with chaos to even gain a slight resistance; which you'd definitely want since you won't be so lucky as to explode like an unlucky rat. What determines these outcomes, you might also ask? The humors of the gods, of course!
(Awkwardly adujsting totally real moustache) mere hysteric now come into this dark secluded alley with easy access to the sewers after all you would be surprised the accidents a hysterical man can achieve yes yes
Do have back problems citizen? You appear to be quite hunched over, also you should really try to groom more, your limbs and face are oddly hairy, I bet you're part Ostlander.
This is my first time seeing one of your videos and I can only say this: fantastic job, dude! Your voice work is top notch and sounds very professional, like something I'd see on TV! The writing and video itself is great! Keep up the great work!
the skaven are probably one of the most well crafted races ever. They are so unique and the design is flawless. They are as simple as any animal, they only want to survive and they are still full of mystery and they have complex technology. They are hiding in the shadows... waiting for the day when they will rise and the vermintide will consume everything in its path
I always felt bad for Skaven. A lot of people think the Skaven are simply evil by nature, but the fact is that the way they are brought up makes them into vicious survivalists. Imagine you are born along with 20 siblings and thrown into a nest-pit, fed only blood-laced milk enough only for 12 pups. No one cares for you. If you don't kill and eat your siblings, they will kill and eat you. You grow up like this. You have to fight and claw and murder and betray to survive. Skaven grow up quickly and take these lessons to heart. I always thought "what if the Skaven did NOT live as they do" and what kind of empire they might build if they were born and raised as humans are.
2seconds in and I'm like FINALLY someone who actually has the voice for this kind of thing. Instead of some geeky high pitched voice that drowns out the music and degrades the tone in which the video was intended.
Skaven are the most dangerous of beasts, even when you survive an attack, only the gods know what kind of plague you got infected with, what kind of curse is casted upon you and what nightmares will haunt you in sleep and wake.
Wait, how sick is 17:15? These are tabletop figures, right? Must have been 1000 Skaven there. Put them together and paint them all is absolutly incredible. Also really great camera and effects work on this!
The ratmen has to be the most terrifying foe... ate least for me. They dont just kill you and take your gold, they poison, starve you and when you are all skin and bone they come the feast
LuiBei1994 basically it start as a taint then evolve into an overwhelming menace, the god part let’s just say he’s another embodiment of Nurgle, and possibly the first Skaven existed, this is how Chaos works, it’s all about warp and mutations
LuiBei1994 it was a really tall tower with a city’s worth of belief behind it that’s how chaos works and the horned rat probably was like the first skaven thus the great belief in him from the other skaven
I have a fan theory about this story. The man who finished the tower might have been a follower of chaos undivided and dedicated the Bell to chaos and the rat not so great yet jumped on its chance to do what he does this the little chaos raf God became greater than most but not all ofcourse
I often come back to this exact video over and over. The voice acting, the design, the editing and the writing is honestly just as good as the actual game. Great job every single video. You all do great work!!
I am of the belief that in the Doom the citizens of the city, both Dwarf and Human were turned into the first Skaven with the pealing of the Bell. But not all of them, after all the new Skaven had to eat something. Also that diorama(?) display at 17 minutes is fucking amazing. I want it.

Was he an agent of horned rat, maybe nurgle, maybe it's 3 skaven in a trench coat but the fact he comes in and either brings forth or even creates the skaven with the bell is such a cool concept one that I'm glad is shrouded in mystery but I just want to know more about

(all will eat you too, Queek might use parts as decorations)
It's the most spooky race idea in any fantasy I can think of.

5 years after the death of WARHAMMER FANTASY and 75k people watch some old world lore in a few days..... 9th edition would have been glorious.
Well do I have good news for you then. GW, has finally come to their senses and are bringing Warhammer Fantasy back!

They’re bringing back the old world in a couple years
@@kevincass9917 Hi, I'm not familiar with the tabletop game, I only played Vermintide and now Warhammer Total War.
This is a great bedtime story. Also, the voice, the editing and the sound is just all perfect
The doom of kavzar is my favorite piece of warhammer fluff ever. You did it justice.
Also that diorama towards the end of the video OMG!
Somebody edgy...they have an "evil for the sake of evil" quality seem to only fail by Deus ex-Machina (from what I have read of them.)
5:47 : "everyone was happy"
Skaven : "I'm about to ruin this whole city's career"
on the tilean myth: not only did they make a tower of babel- like structure, both them and the dwarves refused to just leave their city when they had more than enough time, implying the city had an overly-materialistic lifestyle. does this part of the story come from another myth i dont know? the story makes it kind of seem like the skaven were a punishment from the gods for that city's decadence.
Probably were with a weird Warhammer twist to em.
I'm so proud to be part of such an inspiring community, not only was this short film absolutely amazing, but the compilation of art, cinematics, music, gameplay, the hordes of models, it's all unbelievably cool to someone who has just gotten into Age of Sigmar and started building up their own little army!

This is one of the best Warhammer related Videos I've watched in a long While :D

I have a super challenge on a... sensative subject if you ever think of ending the series, (which i hope you don't cause i love them).
I challenge you as your series finale, the end times with many clips from battles and fights from the total war warhammer 2 (and/or 3 if it comes out before you make a vid about it) i know several people don't like the end times but i think it would be one heck of a video series ending, but until that day comes, which i hope not, you make really awesome videos no one else thought of using total war warhammer 2 clips as part of warhammer fantasy lore videos, my point is i love your vids and keep on doing them
Great suggestion :) I plan on waiting for TW:WH3 befrore even attempting to do End Times . Thanks for your words and your suggestion 🙌😃
@@TheBookofChoyer i agree that waiting for 3 for the end times would be a wise decision
Amazing video! One question: who exactly WAS the stranger who offered to finish the tower? Was he a champion of the Great Horned Rat? An avatar of the Rat? Or something else? What could that else be?
Yes-yes
So they are what you get if you make a RPG player a race, taking absolutely everything they find.
And don't forget copious amounts of murder-hoboing.
😂
Thanks so much for this. Love Skaven lore. I read the second edition cover to cover so many times it fell apart. My favourite army ever.

the skaven are probably one of the most well crafted races ever. They are so unique and the design is flawless. They are as simple as any animal, they only want to survive and they are still full of mystery and they have complex technology. They are hiding in the shadows... waiting for the day when they will rise and the vermintide will consume everything in its path
do hope that this will be the Warhammer movie that we'll such a perfect intro into the series
The fact that skaven have throat singing makes them awesome
Beautiful story telling!!!!!. Always wondered about this factions origins. Congrats as usual on another well done video!!!!
Who could dislike this? It was so well done!
Probably people who are trying to deny the skaven's existance an make others deny it too
