A very bold undertaking my friend. Thank you so much for this. Online forums are great but having someone walk you through the physical books in front of them, *there is no emoji for the Italian food is good fingers*
Empire is really underrated. That is one of my favorite Mark Waid books. The sequel to it was actually pretty good too and grossly under-ordered and talked about as well. That Giffen/Dematteis/Maguire Justice League run is one of my favorite comic runs of all time. Up there with Moore/Bissette/Totelben/Veitch Swamp Thing run, which is my all time favorite, and John Byrne's runs on Alpha Flight and Fantastic Four. I don't think comics have even gotten any greater than they were in the mid to late 80's. That isn't to say I don't enjoy a lot of new comics. It was just a creative zenith for comics with things like Watchmen coming out and Morrison's Doom Patrol and Animal Man which gave birth to the Vertigo line of comics later. The twelve issue Squadron Supreme series from that era is another favorite of mine.
Awesome video Omar. Thank you for taking the time to compile the reading order and talking us through it. It's awesome following NMC and being able to pick up all the information read throughs, reviews etc. NMC is a vital tool to people like me who are either new or returnees to the world of comics / graphic novels / omni's and just want to pick up info and follow reading orders. Thank you. Your work is really appreciated.
Great job Omar! Loved your custom binds at the end there! When you got to Syndicate rules, I remembered that Busiek carried over a plot thread or two from his JLA vs. Avengers. Syndicate Rules was the high point for me in that last 3/4 of the JLA run. Oh yes...You and Maddie need to do JLA vs Avengers in Old reader New reader! Keep up the good work brother and I am looking forward to part 2!
I thought about adding that awesome story. I love Nicieza, but I wanted to focus. Also wanted to add JLA Avengers too, but then that would open up more and more things. :)
its good to go Crisis forward. pre Crisis you can go in and out and pretty much follow what's going on. i used to only buy the issues that had Superman and Batman in them and it was easy to follow where the stories were going. when the satellite gets destroyed that's where i drop. the Jurgens era in the 90s is really good. the villains are ratchetched up to match Superman and Maxima
Omar, you must be so stoked that DC has solicited both the JLI vol. 2 and Grant Morrison’s JLA in omnibus form. I got them both via preorder. Can’t wait!
Grant Morrison was a reason JLA became DC's best-selling title from the mid-to-late-90s, but the real reason was that it was the first time in over a decade that the Justice League had the "big 7". Ever since 86' Crisis, for whatever reason, it was believed that having Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman at the same time was too corny. Morrison said he'd do JLA only if he was allowed to use all the big guns.
Just did a rewatch. In the past year, I have been busy with my own custom binds (not send them off to some company, really sew and glue the issues myself) to create 11 trades. JLA 1-125, followed by JLA Classified 1-54, with some annuals and specials (not all) mixed in. If you ever want to talk about those with me, Omar, no problem.
Those custom binds are awesome. I must find this Kyle and make quick friends with him. I’m slowly working on acquiring all of these books. Great work mi amigo

Those were pretty good stories. I like the Justice League just as much as I like the Avengers. I like the crossover story that they had. Justice League is one of my favorite DC comic books.

JLA's quality dips considerably after Waid takes over and the series becomes unreadable under Kelly.
You didn't like Obsidian Age?! Or Tower of Babel? I think Tower of Babel is one of the best of the best JLA stories. and hell no to Chuck Austen or Byrne's run.
@@NearMintCondition Tower of Babel was good, but a massive step down from Morrison's stellar run.
Kelly's run was pretentious and unreadable. The art was also way too grim and more befitting of an occult-themed comic like Hellboy than the JLA.
