I liked her version of Mercedes Benz and Me and Bobby Magee Courtney Hadwin sings both me and Bobby Magee and Mercedes Benz . She sounds similar with a bit of a British accent
I know where I was. I was 16 and a runaway from Ohio to California with plans to go see her at the 1970 Monterey Pop Fest. About 2 weeks before the fest was scheduled, she was found dead of an overdose in LA. 10/4/1970 RIP Janis
“ball & chain” ..but the live performance from the Monterey pop festival...its EPIC! There’s a scene where the camera goes into the crowd and it focuses in on Mama Cass, from the mamas and the papas…with her mouth is open in awe...
I miss the days of purple bell bottoms ponchos and peace signs hanging around your neck on a chain big enough to knock somebody out with lol..... Those were the daze....and Pearl was the leader of the pack. 💖💖💖
Another great live video of Janis is "Raise Your Hand", a duet she did with Tom Jones for a TV special, backed by a hot band. Enough raw energy on that stage to power Texas for the whole winter.
God bless that gifted woman. Whether it was her very first performances before she ever got into addiction or, in this case, was tore up from the floor up, she had so much soul it just shined through till her last breath. 🙏💕
Sadly Janice is part of the 27 club. Notable musicians who died aged 27. Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones and Amy winehouse are all members.
Not the best performance of this one, but sure shows her passion and need for audience participation. ❤️ Not many gals did it like Janis. If you haven't, you should watch Little Girl Blue. It is a great tribute to her.
I am glad the younger generation recognize and appreciates Janis and her voice than when she was alive. She was considered a radical by the elders of her time and shunned specially by her hometown Port Arthur, Texas.
I remember falling in love with Janis on the 8 track of Pearl blasting at top volume as my crazy German mother behind the steering wheel of her Mustang. She's in her 70's and as crazy back then!
In some of her live performances, including this one, she's too effed up to give her best but they're mostly good despite it. That's both talent and a waste.
Notice how small she is. Such a power voice coming from such a small body. I remember when she died. We lost Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis all at the same time. She accomplished so much in her short 27 years.
My son, before Covid19, was in an Independent Class indoor percussion group. Their last show before it was canceled because of the pandemic, was entitled "27". So many lost at that age. Amy Winehouse, Curt Cobain, Jimmy Hindrix, Janice Joplin, among others....
This is the best live video of Janis, even better than Monterey!!!!!!! And even the sound quality is decent!! And those groovin' Germans!!!!! YYEEEAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
She got a bunch of members from the audience to come up on stage so cool Janis was very down to earth... not a ego trip... it's sad she was just getting started...
Try - "Little Girl Blue" - "Ball and Chain" - "Cry Baby" - "Summertime" Well all of them .... I have been playing Janis since the late 1960 s. I blasted it out on my 1968 Road Runner 8 track player. The song I like best is the one playing at the time . If you do play "Ball and Chain" I suggest the live version at the Monterey Pop Festival. That is where the world discovered her. But you must play "Summertime". It is against the music playing law to not hear "Ball and chain" and "Summertime." Well is should be against the law. It is amazing that after all this time she is still loved.
Wish you had heard and played the studio version... Listen to the album "Cheap Thrills"" with Big Brother and the Holdiing Company. SWhe was heavily endorsed by the Hell's Angels and they worked security for free whenever she played in California.... She is my heart. She died at 27 along with Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, all 27, all icons...
Janis does have an amazing voice, Ball and Chain would be a great listen and also Try a Little Bit harder. You should also check the original version of this by Erma Franklin. Hard to judge which is the better version. Also I do prefer the Big Brother and the Holding Company studio version of this over this live version (great as it is).
Can't remember who was doing a react to this video, but a commenter said his dad was at this concert and can be seen behind Janis' left shoulder near the end. He was in the military wearing a green/grey jacker next to the guy with glasses and a tie. So cool. Wonder if he'll show up on this video and tell the story.
A funny story from the 60’s is when Janis Joplin signed with Clive’s record company she told him the only way she would sign is if they had sex! LOL!! It was the 60’s LOL !!
Cry, Baby... Ball and Chain... and Try (Just a Little Bit Harder) are more great songs from Janis Joplin.
I liked her version of Mercedes Benz and Me and Bobby Magee Courtney Hadwin sings both me and Bobby Magee and Mercedes Benz . She sounds similar with a bit of a British accent
Summertime is my favorite!!
I met a girl who sang the blues and asked her for some happy news, but she just smiled and turned away.
Yes Jay needs to do American Pie
Janis Joplin singing Ball and Chain at the Monterey pop festival in 1967 is one of her best live performances.
I'll never forget where I was when I was told she died. I just started crying. The voice of a generation gone. SHE WAS PEARL ! 💔💔💔
I know where I was. I was 16 and a runaway from Ohio to California with plans to go see her at the 1970 Monterey Pop Fest. About 2 weeks before the fest was scheduled, she was found dead of an overdose in LA. 10/4/1970 RIP Janis

Please do Anna Costanzo's suggestion?!!!!
Yes!
"Cry Baby" next. Janis launches into orbit on that one.
OMG Yes. Janis' power and control just ... Jayy, you GOTTA do Cry Baby.
Yes, one of my favorites! Her vocals on Cry Baby are her best, IMHO.
I'm just here to boost this comment cuz FIDDLESTICKING YES
i AGREE! And also Summertime! From the album Pearl.
Beat me to it! Lol
They were flashing the peace sign at the end. We were right in the middle of the Vietnam war.
Tom Jones and Janis Joplin "Raise Your Hand" Version: This is the Tom Jones Show
🕺💃✌
Absolutely 🔥 that joint there will melt metal......AWESOME chemistry between them 🤯🤯
I saw that video Last night.
Janis gives us everything in all her performances and it's epitomized this classic.
Janis is a beast. RIP.
I miss the days of purple bell bottoms ponchos and peace signs hanging around your neck on a chain big enough to knock somebody out with lol..... Those were the daze....and Pearl was the leader of the pack. 💖💖💖
Just seeing this for the first time and it's already one of my favorite things. Janis was special and this truly brought me joy.
She always showed out proper.
It's great to see Janis on stage just having fun with her audience.
Her live concerts are awesome but I like the original audio version of this song ✌️❤️💯
Janis was always 🔥🔥🔥🔥
She is on the Mount rushmore of Female singer
Agreed. I also propose adding Ann Wilson.
I'm from Louisiana and Janis was from Port Arthur, TX. Which is about 30 miles from me. She even has her own museum. Loved Janis!
Rest In Peace Pearl!
She was something else
Janis Joplin & Tom Jones - Raise Your Hand
Yes!!
I just requested the same one. I can't listen to it without getting up and dancing.
@@lorirose5343 i just gave yours a like :)
@@lorirose5343 There's some pretty groovy dance moves going on behind them, too! 💃🕺🏼
Her voice was so unique! Unbelievable!!
Her career was only four years long And we still haven't got over Her
Thank you lady! Never seen this live version before! No one on the planet like Janis! 💞
It allways makes me feel good how somebody from your generation can enjoy my generation 💓
Love Janice!! Cry Baby is one of my favs of hers. So much emotion in her voice. Great song pick and reaction!! 🙂
She was so Awesome gotta Love Janis 💖
I'm so glad you got to Janis. She's one of a kind.
Oh Janis!! Another one gone way too soon....THAT RASP THO!!!!!!! ❤️❤️
Bringing people on stage with no fear is a time lost
Absolutely LOVE how she invited fans up on the stage and jammed with them. Nobody could engage with their fans like she did
And the beat goes on..Janis Joplin was who she was..except her or not..
Ball & Chain next. She’s live at the Monterey Pop Festival. You won’t be disappointed. Awesome reaction.
Sadly Janice is part of the 27 club. Notable musicians who died aged 27. Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones and Amy winehouse are all members.
2+7=9
9=Life lesson completed
Yes they did!!
If you haven't already done it....Janis doing "Ball and Chain" at the Monterey Pop Festival is a must IMO.
BALL AND CHAIN LIVE AT MONTERY POP FESTIBALE IS THE BOMB!!
I love seeing Janis feeling happy.
She only put out a couple of albums, but she was the first female rock star, and yes I do like her there was no one like her
Her problem was heroin, she tried to quit, but went back after awhile and it was very pure, and it killed her
Not the best performance of this one, but sure shows her passion and need for audience participation. ❤️ Not many gals did it like Janis. If you haven't, you should watch Little Girl Blue. It is a great tribute to her.
It was quite good, the quality of the recording was off; the sound tech of live performances was hit and miss at that time.
ball and chain monterey pop is excellent
I am glad the younger generation recognize and appreciates Janis and her voice than when she was alive. She was considered a radical by the elders of her time and shunned specially by her hometown Port Arthur, Texas.
Ball and Chain from the Monterey Pop Festival next please.
You know back in the 60s the twist and jive were huge and that guys doing the twis
If you haven't checked out Ball and Chain yet,whew- you talk about a performance 👏
Looks like she had a lot of fun!
Doesn't hold a candle to the studio version though.
I remember falling in love with Janis on the 8 track of Pearl blasting at top volume as my crazy German mother behind the steering wheel of her Mustang. She's in her 70's and as crazy back then!
Can you imagine being one of the fortunate to dance with Janis Joplin
In some of her live performances, including this one, she's too effed up to give her best but they're mostly good despite it. That's both talent and a waste.
Unfortunately........when she was on she was the best
@@otisyoung7061 This is a train wreck compared to the studio version.
"Summertime", by Janis. ✌❤🌹
A legend gone too soon. She soulful as can be. This is my favorite. Thx
One of a kind, so vulnerable and so beautiful. I just don't understand Janis haters.
Notice how small she is. Such a power voice coming from such a small body. I remember when she died. We lost Jimmy Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis all at the same time. She accomplished so much in her short 27 years.
Dude in the white shirt dancing has me in tears 😭🤣🤣🤣
Janis Joplin's voice was so amazing and original... RIP Janis....
My son, before Covid19, was in an Independent Class indoor percussion group. Their last show before it was canceled because of the pandemic, was entitled "27". So many lost at that age. Amy Winehouse, Curt Cobain, Jimmy Hindrix, Janice Joplin, among others....

You NEED to listen to her sing Summertime!! it will change your world!
She as an amazing voice, she was a great talent
Hi! Thanks for reacting to sweet Queen Janis!
Another great live performance from her is "Ball And Chain".
I had a brief conversation with Janis. Really nice and engaging.
Janis Joplin is part of the 27 club artist that died at 27 years old. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Amy Winehouse are just a few.
There was a reason her friends called her 'Pearl' for so much beauty to come from such grit. Incredible.
She is freakin fantastic!!!✌
She got a bunch of members from the audience to come up on stage so cool Janis was very down to earth... not a ego trip... it's sad she was just getting started...
Fun song Janis did was,
Mercedes Benz
Janis Joplin "Work Me Lord" Live in Stockholm 1969. You won't regret it!
Ball and Chain - live at Monterey

Love the matching hair and lipstick.
Do yourself a BIG favor checkout her recording of Summertime, another side of her great voice.
I agree. Liked your comment.
not a huge Janis fan but I know this song , I have felt like this more than once
This is pretty cool. To see what really launched her into stardom was the Monterey festival, check out those videos.
Wish you had heard and played the studio version... Listen to the album "Cheap Thrills"" with Big Brother and the Holdiing Company. You should see her at the Monterey Pop festival, she was absolutely breathtaking. Please check it out! 🙏🏻

Hello Jayy hope you're keeping well. She A voice you can't forget
You’ve gotta check out Courtney Hadwin from her America’s got talent audition. Little modern Janis. Impeccable

A funny story from the 60’s is when Janis Joplin signed with Clive’s record company she told him the only way she would sign is if they had sex! LOL!! It was the 60’s LOL !!
Well I just learned something new today! Thanks!
You know she had to have so much talent because even being as messed up on drugs as she was she still sounded amazing!!!!!
