the song has confused me for all my life, at different times it had different meanings and emotions, i was fascinated by your reaction, the pan flute got you at the start, in the middle you got a little lost and maybe bord, then when the build of the song started you looked puzzled, then you had a deep emotional reaction, bless you i adore your reactions, i know its an old clip,

Faith! It sounds corny, but when things are the worst, that's when your belief in yourself and your future has to be the highest. It's not about logic. It's about faith. When things are going terribly and you're on the brink of losing everything, there's no reason to think things will get better, why would it? But that's what faith is all about. Not even religious faith, although many people find faith through religion.
Also, the song didn't save you. Many people listen to this song and don't feel much (although they're in the minority). Something in YOU connected to this song. This song released something inside of you, it triggered something. You still have hope. This song woke that. I'm glad it did. Your journey isn't over.

Yes they are among the best ever, but to make a list is very difficult. Many type of music and thousands of incredible musicians out there, but yes they were the pioneers of hard rock/metal and many more. They were awesome. Destiny had to take Bonzo and they did what was the best. They've earned enough and w/o Bonzo there's no Led Zeppelin.Respect for that.No one could replace that rabbit quick right foot and those triplets w/ broken rhymes, taken from Jazz and his hit.Never seen in rock before.Think of Rolling Stones.Like a bad rhythm machine.4/4 time. Not BONZO.He went behind Jimmy and not Jones like it was used(still is)in that period of rock.YOU CAN MAKE A BOOK AND STILL TOLD TOO LITTLE.DIVINE

@@michaeldillowsr402 I'm not saying that they were not. They were out of the scale of course and the biggest thing is,that they tried new approaches and became pioneers and that is something special that can put them near or to the top.Technically there are other musicians that can compete w/o any problem.Let's talk about Bonzo.Awesome drummer,my god he was special, but the best?Arguable.Neil Perth of RUSH was incredible too.The drummer from POLICE was great...many.It's difficult to compare.Styles,genres...Yes,THEY ARE(not were) superb musicians.Meaning that are still very much the lighthouse of ROCK.

He's telling the rich woman she can't buy a stairway to heaven because it is something that lies "on the whispering wind". He goes on to explain to her that there is no classism in heaven for we will all be "one for all and all for one"/equal. My favorite line is "to be a rock and not to roll" which means to stand firm on what is objectively right and not to stray from that. Very very deep spiritual song.

Only one lived out of 6 and it was in Mount Vernon, Ohio in about 1975. I always think about them when I hear this song.....so sad. Drinking and/or drugging while driving is ALWAYS a foolish choice. There's so much in these lyrics, I like "there still time to change the road you're on" Too many people are afraid to change, because they hear, "a bustle in your hedgerow" it frightens them not realizing; "it just a spring clean for the May Queen"... The Piper is calling us all, but you have to have the courage to follow him... You have to stand Tall......

That beautiful melodic intro with the recorder, and Robert Plant singing softly (no drums), blends into acoustic guitar as the speed and volume increase slightly, then it shifts faster and louder still, and it all eventually finishes with violent, thunderous drums and energy at the end.

The song is about a misguided rich woman who thinks she can buy her way into heaven. He tells her that her stairway actually "lies on the whispering wind" and that she has time to change her ways and "the road she is on". I also love the message that if we get on the same page and agree with what is right and wrong on an objective level we can all be as one and that if we are objective about what is right it will be our rock to stand on and it will not roll which is also a pun about rock n roll of course. Very deep, epic, creative master piece of music.

1974 I am in advanced calculus class in high school. One of the richest towns in America. Large class, super privileged people. The head teacher goes off on this song saying it was nonsense and asked if anyone could explain it. I have spent my life debating with myself whether I could have gotten thru to him if I had tried to explain it to him. Months later I headed to California hitch hiking from old rich retired Florida. The song inspired me to want something more than just being another wage slave consumer.

I think it's awesome that the younger generation is coming back to what we grew up being inspired by. My sister took me to see them live when I was only 11 years old. I'll never forget that night. They can try and move away from rock but rock and roll will never die!

When I was a teenager I thought this song was about drugs. I didn’t do drugs, so the line “to be a rock and not to roll” meant to be steadfast in what you believe. This song has different meanings for different people. Truly one of the greatest songs ever!

THAT... JUST... HAPPENED!!! You just heard the greatest song in the world!! It is the greatest because lyrically, vocal melody, music composition-wise and musical dynamics-wise.... it is the most well-balanced of all of these elements with nothing being too much (where you get sick of it.. it leaves you wanting more) or too little (where the song isn't properly utilizing a good part as a structural leg of a song).. and how it naturally builds from the beginning to the end... like a journey that has a final destination and the joy you feel when you get there.

I think it’s almost certainly about materialism vs a more spiritual outlook. It’s definitely open to interpretation though, as lyrics back then were often not as literal as they are these days. Many artists used to like to cloak their lyrics in mysticism

One of their most iconic songs. "Stairway To Heaven" is the song that many people immediately think of when Led Zeppelin is mentioned.
There's a lot of myth and legend associated with the song, and even with the band itself.
Some swear that the song has sinister connotations, while others, including the band members themselves, deny such claims. As I said, "myth and legend". Most of it is likely untrue, but it makes for an interesting discussion.
