For whatever reason advance ticket sales were dismal and my friend had to call off the concert well before it was scheduled. Minute 10 and 30 seconds Did these songwriters ever stop and think as Linda said she felt a responsibility was to share these songs with a bigger audience and in doing so Jackson Browne and others You got more acclaim more acknowledgment and more money Wah! wah! wah! Of course music is spiritual and personal to each and every one of us Why do you think when bands cover your tunes Little garage bands playing in little tiny bars and maybe making people cry It's because the song you take so personal that you wrote people who listen to it on the radio but your record spun it on the home stereo and came to make it a part of their personal lives take your song very personal Once you play it to an audience and it's broadcasted on the radio and no longer belongs just to you and if you have gone through your whole career and have never come to understand it then you are a very obtuse individual limited in your scope of the human psyche & in the human Adventure!
She was amazing from the get go! Linda Ronstadt's first hit song was written by Michael Nesmith, You're no good that was which was originally recorded by Dee Dee Warwick in 1963. JD Souther wrote Faithful Love for her, Neil Young helped, Gary White wrote Long Long Time. back then they all got together at the Famous Laurel Canyon. It became became a nexus of counterculture activity and attitudes in the mid-late 1960s and early 1970s, becoming famous as home to many of L.A.'s rock musicians, such as Cass Elliot of the Mamas & the Papas; Joni Mitchell; Frank Zappa; Jim Morrison of The Doors; Carole King; The Byrds; Gram Parsons; Buffalo. Jackson had his time. He was once a sex symbol and my big sis loved him. lol
Saw her in Dallas while I was in college. She came out and stood at the microphone silent for almost a minute, silent. She then whispered “ Hello Dallas”. That was all she said to the audience throughout the hole concert! Can’t deny her incredible voice. It was about as entertaining as sitting in the den listening to one of her albums. In the mid 1070s as a college student, concert tickets were sort of beyond my budget. Never went to another of her concerts. Beautiful voice or not, it was a ripoff.
Concert tickets were dirt cheap in the 70's...I saw Pink Floyd on their Dark Side of the Moon tour in 1973 and tickets were a whopping $5. I saw Ronstadt multiple times during that period...always put on a good show. She's paid to sing, not engage the audience in conversation beyond introducing the band, etc.
A lot of song writers in the old days (Dylan, cat stevens) borrowed much almost directly from the Hymnals LOL I guess if you’re going to start playing the blame game you better just blame everybody….especially in the music business which is full of inequity and legalized corporate theft . I know that I enjoyed both of these artists and all the other artists that Linda covered too.
Bottom line, she recrafted the existing songs and apparently made them a better listen. Both the original artist and Linda both have valid points, it will always be a conundrum between Linda, Jackson Browne and the other artists.
Old timers had more humour. Merle Travis hated his own song Sixteen Tons but after he got the royalties from the Ernie Ford hit recording he joked about it and sometimes changed the line "I owe my soul to the Company Store" into "...to Tennessee Ernie Ford". Lieber&Stoller didn't care for the Elvis take on Hound Dog vs Big Mama Thornton, until the money rolled in.
Same with Little Richard and Fats Domino. When Pat Boone had big hits with their songs they had a big change of heart over his versions. Fats used to introduce "Ain't That A Shame" on stage by showing a fancy diamond ring to the audience and then proclaimed Pat Boone bought it for him.
Treat yourselves to Glenn Frey's homage to Linda Rondstsdt, when she was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. He completely delights that she recorded Desperado, making it a hit. I don't know a soul who thinks it is not a gorgeous Eagles' song. Nor can I imagine any rock star supporting and encouraging her own touring drummer and guitarist to quit the tour in order to form their own band. But she did Moreover, Browne also covered other musicians, making hits off their work. I suspect Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs weren't traumatized after Browne profited from their song "Stay" . Why he supposes his songs are uniquely precious escapes me. From Mariachis to Cole Porter, Ms. Rondstsdt finds the best songs to record, whose authors should feel honored. Her extraordinary talent transcends such churlish whines.
Most of the biggest artists don't write their own material, they either have songs written for them, or sing covers, often better than the originals, or at least more radio friendly ! Many artists/bands are forced by their record company to release a proven cover to kick off their career 😊
Wait, I'm confused, so Jackson Browne was introspective? And Linda didn't sing her own songs so that was questionable? Paging Dr Sinatra.......Dr Frank Sinatra.........
That was her talent.if that was your talent would you do it, or say no its wrong.all i do is cover.for the same reasons.if i wrote i would be thrilled to be covered.

Oh boo hoo Jackson! Linda rocked! Poor Poor Pitiful Me-a version that made Warren money…he had children and ex wives that needed Warren to keep them in manner and style that they were accustomed. She gladly provided backing vocals to many artists songs. The backing vocals raised good dogs to great songs. Linda was a beautiful force, and no one would know who Elvis Costello was if Linda had not covered Allison…and let’s not forget The Eagles.
Love Linda's music, but honestly, she needed to leave the politics at home when she played a concert. Was not there to listen to your political views.... I will say that she made every cover she played a better song IMHO.
Then stay at home and listen to your record player. I’m always fascinated by what inspired artists to write songs, or what they believe in. Otherwise what’s the point in going to see them. It’s called stage presence.

He was once a sex symbol and my big sis loved him. lol
She didn't think it was stealing - but taking someone elses work & claiming it as your own while greatly profiting from it - THAT's STEALING IT
Linda is the greatest female singer of our time
Saw her in Dallas while I was in college.
Go see a Korean boy-band.They're very entertaining. Maybe see a super-hero movie.
Nonsense. Bullcrap. Fiction. Pointless. JB should sue these idiots.
I liked her acting in the Muppet show and here contribution to American Stars 'n Bars
Another example of the tag line appearing nowhere in the article.
Old timers had more humour.
Merle Travis hated his own song
Sixteen Tons but after he got the
royalties from the Ernie Ford hit
recording he joked about it and
sometimes changed the line
"I owe my soul to the Company
Store" into "...to Tennessee Ernie
Ford". Lieber&Stoller didn't care
for the Elvis take on Hound Dog
vs Big Mama Thornton, until the
money rolled in.
Don’t know why because she was a great singer but I just never cared for her.
I like both artists....don't really care what you think !!! So....bye bye now !
This quote is never uttered in this video.
That was her talent.if that was your talent would you do it, or say no its wrong.all i do is cover.for the same reasons.if i wrote i would be thrilled to be covered.
Why are you showing a 3-second shot of Jimmy Page when you're talking about early to mid 70s Los Angeles music?
A bit too glossy for me, hearing it was like an announcer telling the color blind how blue is a warm color, while red is hot. I started to listen and knew what was meant, but it's just story telling here.
Nobody can sing so good as Linda Ronstadt ....Nobody!!
Except for Colonel KlinkTrumpn
There is no escape from Stalag 13
Jackson and other people toured and sang these songs with her years ago. And don't forget the people who sang her songs she wrote did not have a problem some just stole her songs out right.
anything for a video huh? isn't singing a song what a singer does? their own intereptation, so what?
What a waste of time.
Dear Jackson Browne I never was a big fan of yours though there are two maybe three songs of yours I really like but news flash the song See I have already forgotten the name of it Not only do I not remember you singing it It was so damn popular that I don't even remember Linda singing it so get over yourself if this video is accurate about you and others whining about Linda Ronstadt Otherwise Happy New Year's!
What horse manure. Bottom line they were elated to get those fat checks.
By the way don't try to looking up my name ... I went by a stage name!
How do you do the don't show me videos from this channel? This is garbage.
LOOPED . ITS ARTIFICIAL , NOT INTELLIGENT
I did not hear a word from Jackson Brown about how Nico "stole" his song "These Days"
ruclips.net/video/0_z_UEuEMAo/видео.html - and I doubt she ever made a penny on it.
Nico was disguised as Truman Capote when she stole it AND claimed she was Bond,James Bond agent 007
Answer your question Jackson Browne did it lose something in the process being sung by Linda Ronstadt? Answer ... ABSOLUTELY NOT SHE TOOK YOUR GOOD SONG AND MADE IT BETTER JACKSON YOU WERE ONE HELL OF A WRITER SO WAS CHRIS KRISTOFFERSON SO I'M TOLD ABOUT NEIL YOUNG BUT ONE THING LINDA RONSTADT ELVIS PRESLEY AND SO MANY OTHER AMAZING VOCALISTS WHO JUST HAPPENED TO BE BLESSED WITH A BETTER VOICE THAN YOU NEIL AND KRIS ... YES MADE YOUR SONGS EVEN BETTER ... BE GRATEFUL THAT YOU LIVED IN THAT ERA AND EXPERIENCED ALL THE WONDERFUL AND AMAZING THINGS YOU DID IF YOU HAVE REGRETS DO AS I DID ... GET THE F*** OVER IT BE HAPPY BE GRATEFUL APPRECIATE WHAT WAS GIVEN TO YOU AND WAS PAID FOR TO YOU FOR IMITATION IS ONE OF THE GREATEST COMPLIMENTS DON'T YOU KNOW!
I'm shocked!!,
Strange reaction for song writers to have.
@StevenCarinci If you plan to make a deal with the devil--- you might want to know if he has a rock band or prefers pop hits.
So here we are coming to the end of this video God I thought it never end and still talking about the one song Jackson Browne wrote and gave permission to Linda (She didn't take s*** from no one) to sing perform it to rewrite it because if she didn't have permission that is nobody's damn fault or business but their own ... So here we are at the end of the video still talking about the one song "Rock me On The Water" So just for the hell of it let's throw in poor poor pitiful me That wasn't written by Jackson Browne, but Warren Zevon ... Will We be hearing next from Warren bitching and moaning about Linda singing poor poor pitiful me lol My God I don't know whether to laugh cry or just call this stupid trust me if I see the name Linda Ronstadt poor poor pitiful me and Warren Zevon ... I'll be steering far far away because I already feel I've wasted a half hour of my time in life even giving this video the respect to watch it and listen to all this ridiculous whining and moaning!
I like some of Linda's stuff, but I prefer Jackson's original version.
Amen to that!!!
Did Dan Fogelberg record that song first Rock me on the water?...I tried singing Dr. my eyes© to a blind man in sign language he flipped me off
Picture Fogelberg on a pony with his middle aged girlfriend calling Wildfire while he slowly realizes his mount is getting frustrated thinking he's singing Rock me on the water
Alice Cooper did not steal Desperado from the Eagles
Try to imagine Trump sedated on a psychiatrist couch rather than JD Vances own while he sings Karaoké Linda Ronstadt with Jackson Browne's voice
Politico linda, music Hanoi jane,,always spewing hate, why she never married or had kids.whats goes around, comes around.even attending award dinner for her,had to confront a politician and spew hate.only performer thrown outta Vegas performance with her luggage.listening bono, waters
She is a better singer than Bono
Weren’t those writers getting royalties?
They told them they were not royal family members
Linda Ronstadt was also one of the most beautiful women in the rock world. She is truly a captivating beauty.
Yeah they cried all the way up to the point they got the royalty check in the mail.
You know I never hear the artist say these things just you reading a script. What's the matter they never said this in an interview.
Wow…
Could you redo this and just get to it?
Well, she did hang with Jerry Brown. Birds of a feather…
loved her did not know she was a thief ,....... boy Lar's would be PISSED
As other people here pointed out, Linda gave credit to and paid royalties for every song she ever covered. Linda was too beloved by too many fellow musicians for anyone with sense to buy this bullshit. She would have been widely resented in a tight artistic community if she were a "thief", since there are *no* secrets in that industry. She has always been very close to Dolly and Emmylou, also women of great character and substance. You believe what you want to, but there's a sucker born every minute.
this video is boring because I got the point the first 50 times you made it !
Yes, and made them a ship load of money in the process.
Whiny boy.
These poor song writers. The same song writers that use musical instruments designed and built by others. Did they steal their creativity? How about the cars they drive? Someone in Detroit put their pride and craftmanship in that vehicle they drive. Bottom line is, they signed contracts with record companies that allowed Linda to sing their songs. Whose fault is that? Aww...you didn't know what you were signing? lol
Nothing shocking here. Really a waste of time.
This is bullshit. All the songwriters mentioned adored Linda Ronstadt and would never speak about her in the terms stated here.
And yet,here you are.
@@ruthdevisser2526 I am also in the USA where a convicted felon, sexual predator, congenital liar with cultish followers who worship him helped put him back into office. And YET you are here too ruthie.
Thats stupid Elvis never wrote songs but when he sang a peoples song they loved it. And if not for him most of the songs were shit decent or even good and he made them great. This is such bullshit they loved her when she sang there songs and made tons of money. TThey can write a song as I think I could but it takes a good singer to make it make money. The other guy he mentioned I think the only hit he had . YOUR ONLY LONELY I believe he sang with the Eagles and he never said shit. He was more then grateful when they let him perform it with them. Jackson is nothing special as a singer he should be thanking her. Had he put it out himself it would not be half as good. All these singers sing others songs. Its not the writing of the song that sells it is who sings it. These people get older like Jackson and when there not able to make the money on there own. It's off to You Tube I go! Layla the biggest song I believe for him the guy who played in Cream took one of her songs and they made millions and then insulted her. And told her she could never win in court she was a woman and did not have the money. She let it go!.
Her music was soulless…product. Just like a Hollywood remake, it was strangely sterile and unmoving.
Big deal
Butt hurt JB. I did not care for LR.
Now she can’t talk ! Funny what goes around comes around !!
She stole legit artists music...and she was just loud. Annoying as hell.
You're not paying attention.
Rondstadt made a bogus career out of other people's music. She was the queen of the cover song ...and that's not a compliment.
Elvis never wrote a song. Sinatra never wrote a song. Are they the Bogus-Careered Kings of Covers?
silly vid
Love Jackson Browne 💥🌟💥😍
..more bullshit.
May want to ask Ms. Hannah about Jackson!
Sorry, but I've Never liked Linda Ronstadt's voice.
She just screams! I never got it!!!
I just think it’s kind of “uncool”= because MUSIC…”
Women just need to show up and sing. Most can't write anything.
Oh a gay troll or a deep misogynist. How wonderful for you, not.
If a Goddess came along and sang your song as if her own, wouldn't you feel cheated by the Gods?
No,I’d feel cheated by her.
This header is a complete and total lie. The whole video is a long drawn out story that's almost as interesting as what you would find on Wikipedia.
How is it that LBJ did not draft him ? Did he pay off someone at the draft board ? I'd sure like to know.
Why? What’s wrong with you?
Bone Spurs
Everyone had to register. Not everyone got drafted. The army didn't need 10 million men. Jackson was born in Germany.
I didn't care much for her voice at all....
Each to their own. I liked the album Running on Empty but not much else. He also had a reputation for being quite the POS - refer Daryl Hannah and probably plenty of other girlfriends he was allegedly abusive to.
too bad
@@deadlotCamperare you nuts?
@@heather6668 I like to separate the talent from the person. As far as Hannah goes, her claims against Browne were unsubstantiated, and he ended up winning a related defamation suit. Hannah's also a MeToo activist, so I would take all her accusations against men with a grain of salt.
Are you kidding? You might prefer other styles of music (although she successfully performed various genres) but her voice was amazing, and her style of singing was outstanding.
All these song writers got their share of the money.
Great artists but never been a fan of either one.
That's fair.
Yet you're here. ?
