When I was probably 8 years old (2006), he came to Gruene Hall here in Texas. My dad had always raised me listening to his kind of music and I loved his Leon Russel CD. I was singing along to every song I knew on the stairs up to the stage and his drummer noticed me and was just amazed that I knew the words to the songs. When the show was over he told me to follow him and took me to their tour bus. He went in for a second, came back out and told me to give him something to sign, that Leon never signs anything and that I need to give him something, I gave him the shirt off my back, he came back out moments later with the shirt signed by every member of the band and his drumstick that he used that night. Great testimony to Leon and his trail-blasing career. It was awesome. It was factual and informative. I had no idea he had cerebryl palsy and may have had alsymers. He was an inspiration to thousands of notable musicians and songwriters, including myself. I just wish the narrator would've pronounced names correctly. Ronnie VanZant and Gary Rossinton's band was Lynyrd Skynyrd, pronounced, Leonard Skinerd. Leon was a fighting genius, to say the least and a hero to me😂❤
A big problem with this kind of program is the disjunction between the text and the illustrations. I once heard the name Joseph Stalin spoken over the image of Harry Truman. There is a lack of respect for the artists, as well as us.
Nice Documentary but who ever put it together needs to learn what people look like. They keep showing Willie Nelson when they are talking about Joe Cocker and at one point show Curt Cobain and he wasn't even born when Russell was with Joe Cocker. But still very interesting.
Wife, this video is a fairly good overview of Leon Russell. It is full of mistakes. Some examples he was not born in Tulsa. He was born in Lawton and did not come to Tulsa until 1953. In the 1980s. He did not come back to his studio in Tulsa. By that time the studio was being run by Tulsan Steve Ripley. There is no mention of his success in 1971 at being part of the concert for Bangladesh. There are several more obvious mistakes in this video. Seek out other sources if you really want to know the truth
Loved Leon during the 70s. He seemed to be everywhere on records and performances. I was waiting for the big reveal on George Harrison that never came, more of a platform for Russell, but that's cool. The video had me going until the Liney Skinard bit. LMAO.
Interesting video about Leon Russell, but at no point doe Leon break his silence about George Harrison. They talk a little about the two, but the title implies some kind of revelation that just isn't there.

Nobody cares and you're broke, homeless, living on the street in the worst part of town. Don't let this happen to you and your loved ones. Peace.
What a dreadfully long-winded video I wish I hadn't spent my time seeing. It just repeats the same two or three pieces of information about Leon Russell over and over again. And the title is so deceptive; there is no silence broken, no big scoop about George Harrison.
I’m pretty sure that the backing band and singers at Concert For Bangladesh were all affiliates of Leon’s, as well as Billy Preston’s, all Bromlett alumni. Too ad Delaney and Bonnie weren’t there. Perhaps label conflicts.

Leon was a fighting genius, to say the least and a hero to me😂❤
i love leon russell and know a lot about him. i was expecting to learn something new here... but i didn't
Leon Russell was born in Lawton, Oklahoma. And grew up in Apache, Oklahoma. A small town north of Lawton.
Lenyerd Skynerd?
A big problem with this kind of program is the disjunction between the text and the illustrations. I once heard the name Joseph Stalin spoken over the image of Harry Truman. There is a lack of respect for the artists, as well as us.
Linyard Skynyard?
😂😂😂😂
Leon was a beautiful force. Handsome with talent, a rarity!
Was Leon's music, perchance, a blending of rock, gospel, country, and blues?
Linyard Skynard?
So what revelations about George Harrison were sending shockwaves throughout the music community?
Why is there a picture of Kurt Cobain?
Just a small excerpt of what he said about Harrison?
Loved Leon during the 70s. He seemed to be everywhere on records and performances. I was waiting for the big reveal on George Harrison that never came, more of a platform for Russell, but that's cool. The video had me going until the Liney Skinard bit. LMAO.
Track down the great les blank documentary on him that Leon didn't allow shown for years but you can find it now if you look hard enough
What a time it was, talk about moving n shaken rock n roll
Interesting video about Leon Russell, but at no point doe Leon break his silence about George Harrison. They talk a little about the two, but the title implies some kind of revelation that just isn't there.
Can't get much heavier than Leon .
If you really want to know more about Leon's and George's relationship, you're not going to find it here.
they would have STD tests every day? He played gospel music? How? His tours were drug filled? How?
I don't get these comments saying Leon looked like Kurt Cobain when he was young. Being white and blonde doesn't count.
I've always liked Leon Russell I wasn't really aware of him until George Harrisons Concert for Bangladesh tho.. But that was 43 years ago.. I didn't know that he had died 😢
"Yesterday's cheers and applause have a short echo"... Show biz is the cruelest of all business. Your name can be up in lights on the marquee of fame and by next week? Nobody cares and you're broke, homeless, living on the street in the worst part of town. Don't let this happen to you and your loved ones. Peace.
I prefer the unique and awesome Mr.Leon Redbone…singing songs of a different genre and past times …who has also passed away and is missed.
"Lynyrd Sky Nerd" 🤣
Saw him in concert w/wife Mary @Nassau Coliseum, Long Island, NY - 1976 (?) - 15th row - Pix to prove it
Miss you Leon such a GREAT ARTIST
Weird....at 2:16, that's a picture of Kurt Cobain, not Leon...
Perhaps label conflicts.
he up on de tightwawa 🎵
Lynn Yurd Sky Nerd?
So, you show Kurt Cobain as Leon? What's wrong with you guys?
Who was the gental giant guitar player playing rhythm guitar as one of the okie mad men playing with joe cocker and the English blues musicians
Okie mad dogs 🐕 I meant.
No, we don’t need to start where he was born. We need to get to the point.
southern gospel and Hare Krishna ...commonality ? that is light verses darkness !
you best open your bible...you missed a few chapters indeed !
Remember when Leon Russell was Kurt Cobain? Neither do I.
Is that picture of Kurt Cobain supposed to be Leon?
Why is there a picture of Curt Cobain at 2:18?
Not one note played by the subject? Not a word from Leon?
Why are they showing Willie Nelson
