This man has always been VERY INTELLIGENT and well read. Even at his most strung out he was never dumb enough to let it define him. Brilliant artist and musician.
It’s ironic that he’s considered the poster boy, cliche rock star because he’s actually one of the most thoughtful, kind and intelligent of all rock musicians.
I think he's the poster boy because because he was the first one, the first guitar rock star. A lot of subsequent guitarists could therefor be accused of trying to copy an image, but not Keith. Because he was the original. (One of them of course, but certainly the most iconic one, image-wise)
This is a great time capsule not only for Keith, but the politics of the time. His lines about performing, and not only recording, apply today in 2024. He is still a performer. If you can? Do it. One thing he has never been in spite of his money and fame is full of crap. He has always been a real deal rock n' roller, and doesn't take BS from anybody, including the interviewer. The Expensive Winos were a good band, hence this promo interview. Unlike many rock stars, he was not " full of himself ". I'm getting ready to do gigs again because there is nothing like live performances. This interview inspired me, as I've performed for decades, and still can. Thank you for posting this.
I love the candid moments at the end when they are shooting B roll and Keith and the interviewer are just having a conversation and he asks him to do a prompt and Keith is so humble and accommodating. This is why people love Keith so much, salt of the earth that man.
He's totally authentic, which becomes even more obvious when the interview is finished and he is asked a few requests. Looks like he's just fell out of a nightclub but is as sharp as a knife.
Living legend….love Keef! Always keeps it real and always intelligent and honest, very interesting guy with rock and roll ,road dog wisdom, you gotta love him!
The man! Bona fide musical songwriting genius. Decent guy with a firm grasp on Reality as much as can be expected for someone in his situation. Rock On!
What I really like on Keith is, in this period, mainly this interview and ALL interviews with Keith at all - he's absolutely stoned by booze or pills or powder (mayby put all this stuff together) but I NEVER seen Keith is awkward! He's one from "the great" I belief what he says! He's a loyal and honest guy I think. I appreciate him as a honest human being, not only he's Keith Richards and got a lot of bucks. No I think, he's a "normal" guy you can hang around with, not in the way he's a VIP or the famous member of tha Rolling Stones.
His book "Life" is well worth reading and showed a side to Keith few realise such as his love of dogs The story of Rasputin, a stray he found in Russia, is golden! Todays Keith Richards is a different man having now even quit smoking, apparently after Ronnie Wood persuaded him!
Hearing him speak about Chuck B. sends me back to LHSN. Chucks son Charles Jr. was there in 75-79. He was a nice person. Laid back and shy. "Knowing the Stones" was unreal for a teenager, and I got a kick out that.
I've long thought he's highly intelligent. It's possible that music has contributed to being lateral in his thinking. His lyrics show his genuine emotions. And he's always answered questions very honestly. There's no bullshit here because he doesn't like fakeness.
I got the sense, during that part, of what a sweet guy he is at heart. Didn't act like an impatient diva, just a level-headed (and pretty buzzed) pro doing what's required of his job. I'm sure he could be a real a-hole at times, like most of us, but he comes across as a genuine sweetheart.
Oooh!! That look Keith gives him around 9:26!!! Can tell he’s really pissed…, holding back. Like “Hey man what kinda STUPID question was that?!?…, ‘What kinda drugs do I recommend?’ What is this…., 1966?? I’m a musician and I’ve been a good ‘little citizen’ for going on fifteen years pal…., and you wanna focus on drugs?!?!?? Better back off…..!” I think the interviewer got the message there….. Right on Keith!!! 👍👍👍✌️❤️
People who underestimate Keith are just repeating cliches and not really paying attention to his intellect and the wisdom he has gathered over the years. Some think he is celebrated because he has taken drugs and partied a lot but most of us just appreciate that he does what he wants to do , whether that happens to be partying or whatever. He's made his own rules and he has gotten away with it.
"There's air, there's food, there's mum and dad and there's the Rolling Stones." Out of context, that quote could look arrogant, but it actually shows a very humble guy reflecting on his place in the world.
There are many people who have been working with them or been in their orbit who disagree deeply with this statement. Glyn Johns and Nick Kent for starters. It is all a matter of taste.
Such a wise man at 44. He had already been through so much at that stage of his life. Very intelligent. He has always been cool, and I’ve always liked him.
During the 'end of the Glimmer Twin cold war'.....Keith showed everyone his value and great talent on his "Talk is Cheap" album.......The Stones were back next year
Mick Jagger’s solo album’s failure didn’t hurt. They’re obviously better together. Good thing their solo excursions weren’t too popular or else we might not have gotten the Stones together again.
There are very few people in this world who know as much as Keith about the nuts and bolts of Rock & Roll. He knows how the beats bounce off each other, the anticipation, the backbeat, the swing and sway.......
