Man thank you so much for making this. My wife has been eyeing these and I’ve been looking for a first woodworking project to do with my father in law. This settles it.
Thank you so much for this video! I was very intimidated by pictures of it, but because of you, I was able to do it and it wasnt as hard as I had thought!
I will make one when our weather in MN get warmer. But want to try a different design with the boards on the bottom and an inch or so wider to go onto the counter top edge.
This was a great video !!! Very direct n to the point ,easy to follow ! Loved it n the board turned out beautiful ..very glad I found u !! I’m going to look at some more of your videos now ! Thank u so much
What vinyl did you use for your stencil? It looks like it sticks well! Also, just a tip, if you put on a layer of matte mod podge over your stencil, let it dry and then paint, you get very clean lines and the paint won’t run under your vinyl!
I love this video! Thank you for being so informative about every step you took and supplies that were used. I make stove top covers, but I just used one flat piece for the base. I was asked to do one exactly like yours and I'm glad I came across your video! Although, my husband works out of town a lot, I don't want to have to drag out his air compressor and nail gun to do one like this all the time. I watched a video of a lady where she took the two top wood pieces that hold the handle, laid everything upside down and screwed the base boards onto the two top pieces. If I do that, would it be safe to use a wood filler to cover up the screws so they don't scratch up glass top stoves? I use Stain that already has polyurethane in it.
Does it stand way higher than the counter tops? Was wondering how it looks since this was putted on top of an electric stove so its even with the counter top.🤔
The paint will last longer and it looks more professional. If you opt to do a decal it will also last so it’s just up to you and what you prefer aesthetically.
Nice work! I’m looking to do one for my girlfriend. She has regular burners on hers. I would just put 2 side boards on the bottom side that way it’s sits taller?
So you the base boards aren’t connected? Nice. Thought you would pocket screws to connect the base. Great job turned out really nice this will be my next project
I love this board and I love how particular you are with your measurements! Wish I could commission you to put together a board for me and then I could stain, embellish and poly it myself! Thanks so much for your video!! I'm hoping I can cut it at Home Depot myself since I don't have a saw like yours. :-)
At about 1:50, you mention the end grain rings of your boards. As you lay your boards out next to each other, you should alternate them rings curved up and down, looking at them from the end. Your finished panel will be less likely to warp.
Thanks for the video! What are those little orange pointy things you used to set the noodle board on while you stained it? Forgive my ability to describe those little guys, I’m dying to get some of those for myself
Joshua Potts I’m not sure if the exact name but I got them at Lowe’s in the painting area. I think they come in packs of 8 if I’m not mistaken. I use those things all the time!
Hi! Great project and as a beginner, Im not feeling too terribly intimidated! My question is this...did you glue, clamp or fasten the base together before adding those two side top pieces? Thanks so much!
Love this ❤ but I would of flipped it upside down. The small vertical pieces would of been sitting on the stove so it’s raised and handles on the side.. (basically too would be flat) and then also use it as a cutting board as well. I’m just learning but I have so many tools I just bought from Home Depot so watching people make stuff is so exciting and then I can put my own touch… anyways great work
Awesome video and turned out beautiful ? Question for you ? The measurement for the depth of the stove, is that from the front of the stove to the back part where the knobs are? Example, my depth is 28 ", so is that including the back part or just from the front to the back wall? I read your comment about the wood not being true size, so if I did 5 boards @ 5.5 , that would give me 27.5 which would be right there. Let me know, thanks !
11 3/4 wide and tall which is the biggest I can do on the silhouette cameo. I use both permanent and removable vinyl but the removable seems to do better on wood.
I didn’t glue each board because I glued the outer 1x4’s to the wide boards. I do the same thing when I make my flags and haven’t had an issue with them. Since I built this stove top cover, it looks the same now as the day I built it.
Hi, this look really cool, I would like to make one, may I ask what type of wood do you think is more appropriate for the heat and also I like the stain you used, I have recently sanded an oak coffee table and I would like to obtain the same color, should I look for oil ? Which product and color is it if I may ask ?-)
I use the premium pine at lowes. The stain is Dark Walnut by Minwax. As far as heat, once we use the stove we leave the cover off until the stove top cools to the touch then we place it back on top of the stove. Just to be safe!
Do you know of a food grade epoxy you could use so it can be used as a cutting board also?? GREAT project! Yours is the best video I have watched! TFS!
I want to use the leftover piece that was left after being cut out for the sink. It is laminate over particle board. How do you suggest I deal the free edges?
K Lowe’s and Home Depot sells edging that you you can use an iron and melt the glue so it will stay. I’ve used it on plywood edges before to dress it up.
You wouldn’t use this as a cutting board unless you are sure you use food safe stain. In that case, is easier to apply mineral oil and don’t stain it. Use something better than pine though or it won’t hold up to the abuse.
Jaclyn Pendleton I use the “wall removable” vinyl so when I pull it off it comes off easy and doesn’t damage the wood. If you have a hobby lobby near you they sell it also.
I made my board and it’s stained. I’m going to stencil a design on the top. I’m going to spray sealer over the design. Do I need to seal the rest of it? I’m not sure being in the stove.
You don’t have to. We use ours as a serving tray a lot. So if your gonna out things on it then adding a clear coat to it will help clean it off a lot better. It will also protect the wood more.
Samantha Rosario My most used tools is the miter saw, drill, circular saw or table saw, and a router...hand held or bench mount. If you have a harbor freight nearby you could try to start off with their tools to see if you like it, then later jump into the more expensive tools.
I left it. With the dark walnut stain the brads kinda blend in. Plus the wife likes the “rustic look” lol. If you don’t want them seen they can be shot from the bottom.
Is there a difference in transfer paper and stencil paper? The stencil paper I got from my local store is difficult to lay flat. I’m just looking for an easier way to stencil.
Chicbychan5 Yes, I just use regular 651 Oracle vinyl to cut the stencil then use transfer paper to place it on my piece. If you amazon vinyl transfer paper it will pop up. It’s a lot more user friendly.
If your measurement from back to front is 22”, what size were the boards? Your video shows you used 1x6. 4 would be 24”. Did you have to trim the 1x6’s?
No, in box stores if lumber states it is 1x6 then it actually measures 3/4”x5. 1/2”. Like a 2x4 is really 1 1/2x3x1/2 So 5.5 wide plus four gave me 22 inches. When I go to pick out lumber I always take a measuring tape with me so I can see how big the wood is before I buy it.
What if my stove top is shorter then 22” in depth. I’m having to cut the length of the width of the stove top to sit flush like yours. Or am I missing something ?
I hope you can PLEASE help. I make noodle boards and I want to add a design to them. I have a cameo 4 pro and I was wondering what type of paper or vinyl to put it on the board. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Roy Bacchi
I've seen so many of these videos on RUclips and yours is by far the easiest and the most straightforward one. It looks great. Good job
Thank you!
Man thank you so much for making this. My wife has been eyeing these and I’ve been looking for a first woodworking project to do with my father in law. This settles it.
This is by far the prettiest stove top cover I’ve seen. Beautiful job!
The felt on the bottom is a great idea
This is so beautiful! Thank you for sharing your project!! Now we have a new project for my house. Showed the hubby. He loves it too! Thank you again!
Michelle Corvison Your welcome, thank you!!
Now that's a man who ❤ his wife. Thanks for the inspiration
Thank you so much for this video! I was very intimidated by pictures of it, but because of you, I was able to do it and it wasnt as hard as I had thought!
You make it look so easy that I feel I can do it. Ill deff try to make it! Thank you for showing the materials :)
I will make one when our weather in MN get warmer. But want to try a different design with the boards on the bottom and an inch or so wider to go onto the counter top edge.
Mine would be established in 2008 as well 😊.
I’m going to make this tomorrow
We just bought a silhouette cameo 3 vinyl cutter. Looking forward to using it with my woodworking. Thanks for sharing.
The video was so very helpful! Thank you! I've completed one and now on to the next Christmas gift.
Thanks for sharing the details for making the stove top cover, great and popular project!
What a beautiful stove top cover and I love your decal it is so pretty! Thank you so much for sharing a simple projects that looks so cool.👍👍
I have started making these thanks to your video!!!
Your so patient and kind to take the time and engage with Q&A I love diy’s like this. I just liked subscribe and shred it on FB
Thank you!!
This is beautiful! Thank you so much for such a great and informative video. I am making 2 this week for Christmas gifts!
This was a great video !!! Very direct n to the point ,easy to follow ! Loved it n the board turned out beautiful ..very glad I found u !! I’m going to look at some more of your videos now ! Thank u so much
Love the video. Super helpful. Thank you! And the sound of that wood stove is so relaxing. Lol
turned out so nice. thanks for sharing!
You could use cedar fence boards and cut the wood cost by more than half.
China North Airguns does Lowe’s sell cedar fence boards?
@@bonqueesha4real376 Yes. Cedar and pressure treated depending on your location.
I love it! Thank you for sharing! I'm going to give it a try!!!
This so beautiful and than you for making the video so easy to follow! I'm subscribed!

It was the orical 651 vinyl
Glad you told me what you used and how to do it.

Savannah Terry Yes the wood filler will work and as long as the screws themselves aren’t sticking out you will be fine.
well done, one of the better ones I have seen
Thanks for your video... I have been looking for something similar... I think I will just make it like you did...
Thank you so much. I've been wanting one for my gas stove. Now hubby turn to make me one lolll
Does it stand way higher than the counter tops? Was wondering how it looks since this was putted on top of an electric stove so its even with the counter top.🤔
thanks so much I will start working on mine tomorrow!!
Awesome project. Love your videos.
Johnnie Whinery Thanks!
New subscriber here. That was exactly what I was looking for. You made it look so easy!! Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us!!
Thank you!!
Love this. What are the measurements for the stencil? Also, would a decal not stick to the wood and that’s why you painted? Thanks!!!
KS the decal is 11x11 inches. A decal may stick but I painted it on because we sit items on it all the time and I was afraid the decal would peel.
The paint will last longer and it looks more professional. If you opt to do a decal it will also last so it’s just up to you and what you prefer aesthetically.
Very cool project, great job!
if you put a sealer before the paint it will not bleed at all . Great vid
Beautiful work.
Great video!!! We will be trying this!
That is absolutely awesome
Saved me lots of money! Thanks!
It's such a great idea I really really really like that 🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️
Nice! This is exactly what I'm making.
I have terrible with stencil work, Can this work with just adding a vinyl decal?
Wow really nice great job 👌
Gorgeous!
Nice work! I’m looking to do one for my girlfriend. She has regular burners on hers. I would just put 2 side boards on the bottom side that way it’s sits taller?
I have the exact stove!!! Now I need to make a cover 😂.
Thanks for sharing. I want to see the RZR in the background. 😊
Haha I sold that one and now own a talon 4 seater
So you the base boards aren’t connected? Nice. Thought you would pocket screws to connect the base. Great job turned out really nice this will be my next project
Thank you for doing this. What size brad nails did you use?
Kellie Bishop 18 gauge 1 inch brads
Love this! What color is the wood stain? Great job thanks for the video
Dark walnut by minwax
I love this board and I love how particular you are with your measurements! Wish I could commission you to put together a board for me and then I could stain, embellish and poly it myself! Thanks so much for your video!! I'm hoping I can cut it at Home Depot myself since I don't have a saw like yours. :-)
Where do you store the stovetop cover when you're cooking on the stove top?
Great job!
What type of clear coat lacquer may I use?
I like that glossy smooth look too.
Dee I use either polycrylic high gloss, or polyurethane high gloss. Both by minwax.
At about 1:50, you mention the end grain rings of your boards. As you lay your boards out next to each other, you should alternate them rings curved up and down, looking at them from the end. Your finished panel will be less likely to warp.
nicely done.
What kind of wood did you use? And did you have to seal it at all so it doesnt splinter?
Tameca 222 I used the premium pine from Lowe’s. Also I used spray polyurethane and gave it 2 coats.
Polyutherane after decal correct?
Thanks for the video! What are those little orange pointy things you used to set the noodle board on while you stained it? Forgive my ability to describe those little guys, I’m dying to get some of those for myself

Gayle Kane No, I only glued the 2 top pieces that the handles are on. I glued them to the bottom 4 pieces then shot them with brad nails.
Thank you!
@@PoposWoodworks Beginner here. What size/length nails did you use?

Hello, thank you for this video. How big are your decals for this board and do you use permanent vinyl or removable for the stencil
11 3/4 wide and tall which is the biggest I can do on the silhouette cameo. I use both permanent and removable vinyl but the removable seems to do better on wood.
I love it,I'm going to make one for myself but I don't know how to make the stencil?
Beautiful ❤
? Just curious why don’t the boards get glued together? Also, what does the wet towel do to your decal? Thank you!
I didn’t glue each board because I glued the outer 1x4’s to the wide boards. I do the same thing when I make my flags and haven’t had an issue with them. Since I built this stove top cover, it looks the same now as the day I built it.

Can you tell me where you found that monogram with the deco edge? I’ve looked everywhere and cannot find anything like that!
What color of stain did u use for this project?.
Awesome 👍 congratulations.. where did you get the decal.? Thanks
Cristian Davis. I made it with a silhouette cameo craft cutter
I love your board what size stencil did you use for your board
12 inch X 12 inch

Silhouette cameo craft cutter

From lowes
What specific stain did you use? I love it!
How did you get the boards to stay together? You did not glue or nail!!! Did the side pieces hold it all together???
When you do the decal, is that just regular adhesive vinyl you cut or do you actually cut a plan stencil through your machine ? thanks in advance
Jaclyn Pendleton I use the “wall removable” vinyl so when I pull it off it comes off easy and doesn’t damage the wood. If you have a hobby lobby near you they sell it also.
Good work
This really cool. About how much does it weigh? What is the best kind of wood to use?
Tricia Chandler It doesn’t weigh much, maybe 5lbs. I used premium pine from Lowe’s
Popo's Woodworks thank you so much. Thanks for sharing.
I love the stain, what color is it? Is it Minwax? Thanks
Dark walnut by Minwax
what type of wood did you use and whats the best kind to use for this project what colour stain was that also that you used thanks

It the Dewalt 12 inch sliding miter saw
I see you put Brad nails in the top. Did you then fill those holes in with wood filler before staining or did you just leave it with holes?
I left it. With the dark walnut stain the brads kinda blend in. Plus the wife likes the “rustic look” lol. If you don’t want them seen they can be shot from the bottom.
Did you seal the acrylic pant?
Before paining oh on the decal, you let the stain dry how long?
I let the stain dry to the touch, then put a coat of polycrylic over it. Then painted the decal on and clear coated again

D Jacobs I used a silhouette cameo so the decal was as big as the machine would cut. I think it was around 11 1/2 wide x 11 inches tall
Beautiful!!!! What are the dimensions of your 4 pieces at the bottom?
Stephanie Townes they are 1” x 6” boards which I think measured at 3/4” x 5 1/2” actual size
