Going out on a limb here... I’m guessing you are in law enforcement and 731 is your badge number?
This is glorious, been searching for "diy projects woodworking plans" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Yanathew Wood Waggler - (do a google search )?
It is a smashing one of a kind guide for building amazing sheds and your own wood work projects minus the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my cousin got amazing results with it.
How do you price your projects ?
As long as someone has something to believe in... Someone out there will be there to destroy it.
As a fellow craftsman, I have to ask- who the hell downvotes this video. He's honest, genuine and helpful.
Thank you
I’d guess it’s the thin blue line flag.
Mr. Reditor. Its dislike.
Biden voters
A jealous POS
God bless this guy actually trying to reassure people it isn’t rocket science to build stuff out of wood. So many RUclips guys act like they have a 10y woodworking degree and just like to show off all their expensive tools. Humble dude, really appreciate him encouraging people.
Thank you
He's got my husband convinced he can start a side business and eventually leave his job to work fulltime for himself and he has zero experience lol. He's going to give it a try, and I'm sure he'll succeed so, thank you for giving him the push he needed!!!
If he wants is bad, and has your support, he can do it and much more!
It isn't that easy bro or everyone would be good at it. He's telling people to go for it but not saying its easy.
And aanndd he has a special blue ring on his finger🤣
Unbelievable!, I feel like Matt’s talking to me like he would talk to his brother. No hustle, no bravado, just showing me how to do it, and what things to try and avoid. Thank you, Matt.
I just have to say that this video and this man has breathed life into my very small woodworking business. As a female wood worker I have struggled getting help with questions, tips and tricks as well as guidance for not being taken seriously. Your videos have inspired and helped me in ways I could have never imagined. Thank you sir for your videos and guidance to help grow my business. You are my mentor so once again, thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge.
I have wanted to teach 2 different classes for a long time. Both target those with a desire to learn basic skills with no focus on strength or previous knowledge. Both would be called "Build a box". 1st course would use cordless tools. The second - a table saw.
Keep going Lisa haters gonna hate, and Iv seen women do very well at this.
Hello
I've been building and selling bunk beds for the past couple years, but through another company and it was very difficult to market myself because of their constraints. With the pandemic, I had to stop entirely and am no longer contracted with that company. (I don't mind - gotta put others' safety first).
Now I'm taking this opportunity and I'm in the process of designing and prototyping my own furniture, which I can market as I wish.
I wanted to say:
Thank you for being clear.
Thank you for not offering the same old stuff (cutting boards, wine racks, etc).
Thank you for talking about price structure and THANK YOU for actually charging a reasonable amount.
This is heartening to see, and it actually gives me hope as I try and get my business running so I can provide for my family.
That was long-winded, but I'm grateful your willingness to share your knowledge and experience.
All the best,
-Aaron

I appreciate your taking the time to tell me this. I appreciate the feedback! It’s always scary putting yourself out there. May God bless you in your business!
Custom furniture for concealment. Like to make it get one soon
Trying to make ends meet and support a family can be scary, I know. However doing something you love and building things people need and want are usually fool proof.
I’ve seen those built and they are neat
@@731Woodworks I'd like to start soon, I'm trying to build my garage myself so i can do things like this in a contained area.. I've been in to building things and also pyrography/wood burning images, would it make sense to combine the two skills and create customized items? I'm in a smaller city in SE Georgia.
Love this guys sincerity and reassuring attitude. We need more stand up guys like this. Very refreshing.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
He even disclosed the fact that the dog didn't stay in the kennel 🤣 seems like a solid dude.
lol I appreciate that
My sentiment exactly
100%
I've always loved woodworking as far back as I can remember. My grandfather had a woodworking shop and sold his doll furniture. Recently I have been wanting to build exactly what you've talked about here. Thanks for inspiring me and assisting with building tutorials for us all. Blessings to you and yours!💗🙏
I appreciate that you’re not those annoying RUclipsrs that drag it out. Much respect boss thank you!
Thank you

"Give a man a fish feed him once teach a man to fish feed him for life" Thank you very. Much for this video and your knowledge. There's no posible way to know the impact this video may have on who knows how many people out there. For that many blessings are coming your way Matt.
Thank you so much. I actually told my wife that phrase today when we were talking about something else lol.
@@731Woodworks kind regards to Mrs 731 Woodworks. Blessings to you and your family Matt.
Thanks
I plan on using this. I am trying to get started in selling wood pieces #beginner
Watch Seaspiracy on Netflix.
Great video...I'm a retired pilot in Central Florida...started making adirondack chairs our of 5/4 decking I saw on RUclips and found people wanted to buy them...they stopped on the street and I had a great business till the city fined me...lol...the newspaper did a story on me and made me a HERO...SO now i sell at the local farmers market. I built a 4 foot table with 4x4 legs and deck top which I do a distressed look, navy blue paint, sand it...put white over it..sand it...then clear coat...i call it "faded blue jean look"...I've done it in every size up to 12 ft. I sold the 6 ft version with 2 benches for $700. Its a great seller. I also do childrens chairs and give them to all the kids in my neighborhood. I go from "itty bitty" to adult simply taking the height of the child in inches...say they are 36" high and divide by 72," which is the adult size and so you get .5 and multiply that out on all your cuts ...people LOVE THEM...and it spreads good will...many of the folks I gave a child chair come back and order a table..etc.......pricing is tough and I consider this a 'MINISTRY'. I have found the best thing to do on price is ask the buyer what they think its worth...often they say a number MUCH HIGHER than you would ask. And I give away a ton of stuff to folks who cannot afford it. Its been A joy...to do that. Really down to earth presentation. I will definitely do as you say and build these items on the video. THANK YOU!!! Be blessed.
Your honesty shines a long way, I recently got into woodworking, purely doe making a few things for myself. I really appreciate some of the ideas you're throwing out there in terms of what people are purchasing. I may try it out locally with a simple item to begin with myself
Hey Matt, thx for sharing your knowledge and experience with everyone. This was incredibly valuable.
You’re welcomed. I’m extremely surprised at how well received it has been.
Very generous and kind of you to offer all this advice and encouragement to us...I certainly appreciate it. Thank you so much!
I'm glad that it helps! Thank you.
Yeah, I too appreciate the advice. Pretty decent of him.
Thank you
Seen your videos on Facebook. I have always loved wood working but never done it for a living. I just sold my welder and bought a table saw. Also grabbed a sander and some clamps. I am going to give it a shot. Thank you for giving me the kick in the rear I needed! My wife passed in june at only 36 years old so needed some motivation to get me out of my depression. I cannot wait to build my first piece and sell it to someone that will love it. Thanks again and God bless you brother 💪🇺🇸
I've been a carpenter for about 17 years now. I've always said that I wanted to make furniture for a side hustle but never researched what would sell good. This video popped up in my suggested videos and I have to tell you that it has given me a kick in the rear to get going. I love how basic and beautiful these projects are. I knew instantly that they would sell. I see stuff like this in houses all of the time! I know I have the skills and tools to do it so now it's time to get started!
Thanks man. It was truly the advice I didn't know I always needed.
Same here man . I'm getting started as soon as our snow melts in Canada lol . I have some half decent tools , enough to get going well
Hey did you start making furniture for sale? How's it going for you?
When the whole covid 19 started in my area I started to mess around with wood and was able to make a coffee table with Chevron top and added it to my ig story and a friend of a friend saw it and she asked me to make her a desk whith the Chevron design and I had no idea how much to charge her since it was literally learning myself.. I only charged her $260 because she was a friend but lol I so under charged her it took me forever and it come solid and she wanted to Xs on the frame and the chevron top. This video made me get excited about woodworking again. Thank you. I need to start new projects. I also made a dinning table for my little mobile home and a bed frame but that's just for me and my girl bc we needed this anyways. Thank you again
You’re welcome. Thanks for sharing.
This is extremely generous of you to share so much information for these items. This is all greatly appreciated.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm starting making kids chairs, price is 25$ each. I spend 4-5 h on it. Material cost is 12$. Like you said, don't count time when you're starting. I've sold 5 of them in 2 weeks, so it's still motivating and will increase price soon as the overall quality improves with practice!
Good luck with it 🍀🙏
Hey! You posted your comment like a year ago and I was wondering how your woodworking business is coming along now?
@@sofifl in my first year as an official business (will end in June). I'm still trying to figure out the market and exploring what sells and what doesn't. I'm at about 2k after tax and expenses in 8-9 months. I guess it will grow as now I'm in the learning out to do business phase.
@picturesfromtheworld208 that's awesome! It's great that you're keeping it up! I'm just starting to learn woodworking now. It's so much fun!
@@sofifl thank you! Good luck to you!
It really makes sense. Nobody wants to talk about these. Thanks!
As a woodworker and musician, I agree with almost everything you just said. What I didn't agree with? When a family member buys from you, he/she is trying to support your business. Giving a discount would be ironic. If a family member is struggling and you wanna help him/her out, you could have them buy the materials while you do the work for free, and have him/her help you build it. That way he/she will appreciate how much hard work is put into woodworking.
Thank you for your feedback
As a Furniture Restoration business owner for over 35 years I've got to hand it to you for putting out such a good honest easy to digest video on your craft! Great ideas! Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
I like the way you explain things and your honest approach to everything. I appreciate your humility. More people need that. Keep up the good work Matt. I like listening to you. Us newbies need all the help we can get.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video!
I could definitely see doing items like this to be able to reinvest into more tools for other projects. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! Go for it!
I agree with Juliet Phillips, in that you are very generous with your advice.2
Thank you so much for selflessly sharing your beautiful advice regarding what sells and for how much.
👍👍
Thank you for the kind words.
Hey Matt!! Otro gran video, super motivador y de ayuda para quienes estamos jugando cada vez mas con la madera! Mil gracias amigo.
Pricing to sell. Cost of materials is only the start remember added costs screws, glue, nails, biscuit joints is my method of jointing timber so add price of beach biscuits. Electric and heating your workshop per hour hidden charges people forget about but need adding to the cost of selling price plus your hourly labour rate. All these costs are added together to get a selling price then add 100% at least for profit. Now you have your selling price plus delivery charges. Most people don't know how to price there work and end up making no profit at all or very little. I've been self employed over 46 years and and always used this method to price any job.
This video was gifted to me by the great algorithm in the sky, and I couldn’t be more grateful! Clear and relevant information without unnecessary filler, preempting the follow up questions. You have a new subscriber and fan in bonnie Scotland.
Thank you!
My man, I built myself a workbench a couple months ago, and I really enjoyed it. Since then I've built 6 foot desks for my daughters and a shiplap daybed style headboard. And just today I sold a desk and set of matching shelves to a friend for about $75 profit. Took several days and was really underpriced, but I learned some new skills and it paid for a new shop vac to help keep the dust at bay lol. I really appreciate your honesty in pricing too. Most videos cop out when it comes around to pricing. While it's not a guarantee, it definitely gives an idea of where they should be priced and what people will pay. Going to watch more of your videos now!
I appreciate the kind words!
Really appreciated this video. I've been puttering for years and sold a lot of pieces in my own pet store. Custom aquarium stands mostly. Time to expand and move into other projects and you information is invaluable. I want to find a way to spend more time with my children and this is really going to help. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful
Your level of encouragement is astonishing, I can't thank you enough for your videos.
From someone that has always fantasized about building things for a living, love this video
Thank you
Lol, me too...and millions of others as well. While I appreciate and really enjoy the videos that woodworkers post, and am happy that there are a few that can sell handmade furniture, the reality is that it's nearly impossible make a "living" in woodworking. I've been a woodworker for nearly 40 years, have a 30x36 temperature controlled wood shop with every tool imaginable, and I haven't attempted to sell anything since the mid 90s. Less than 1% of people will pay a higher price for handmade goods now, thanks to big box stores and their Asian produced goods. I don't know a single soul that would buy a handmade table or anything else for that matter. But like I said, I'm glad there are people out there with enough friends and family willing to give them money for their hard work.
Thank you for making this video. I am just starting to build the larger furniture items and find pricing the hardest thing to figure out. Now I can use your video as a reference.
So glad it helped.
Wow, so glad I stopped by! My kids moved out (I am single mom), no money for furniture. I decided to find out if I could make it for them. I started with a garden bench. they loved it. I moved on to end tables, entry tables, coffee tables. Loved it. Then one girl got her own place, and the problem was no tv stand she liked. So I made each a tv stand, both of them very different (they had their own wants and finishes --yep both custom stains, sizes, heights, lol), so I decided to see if I could successfully design with fireplace and barn doors. that barn door hardware is expensive! so I figured out how to make my own by wandering around home depot for ideas, lol. Both came out great, and a lot of their friends are asking me to build for them. I also made bar carts that look great in the kitchen and roll on wheels. One has a removable tray, the other tray is secured (clumsy daughter). And it is fun challenging myself to design and build with only a miter saw, a drill and that kreg. So yeah, it can be done, and your video is excellent. Thank you so much for sharing! But caution...make sure the wood is DRY, or you will, like me, be rebuilding a barn door. sigh. lesson learned!
Thank you so much for your channel. I’m loving your builds. I have a small little business less than a year old of home decor type things..
We have most saws and equipment now and wanting to expand to bigger builds. I have a 16 year old who is not college bound and thinking this would be a great thing to bring him into. Looking forward to our first build! Thank you again for all your tips and step by step videos 😃
Glad they help!
I appreciate and love your content! You really make a difference in helping us beginners learn! I did a couple of your builds already and making a few bucks while learning and gaining comfort
That's great to hear! So glad they help you!
Hello, I just wanted to thank you for this video! It just shows how big is your heart. It's not every day that we find someone with this kind attitude, sharing your own experiences and taking peoples hands and teach them step by step.
This is going to help a lot of people, including me.
So, I thank you all the way from Brazil.
God Bless you💖
Glad it helped!
Thank you ! Grounded in love yes I needed this today!
I have to say this is one hard working honest guy sharing some great information. One of the best I've seen for beginners. And he is motivating as well. I'm impressed
I have looked at several "woodworking projects that sell" videos and this one by far is the most realistic! Thank you, subscribing now.
Thank you
I am a software engineer and almost 50. I done some woodworking in December and really enjoyed it. I want to start and build furniture and make it my living in the future.
Finally someone on yt who doesn't name three different types of electric saw as an absolute must for starting to build furniture - build what you can with what you have
I really appreciate your videos, and the fact that you realize not everyone has the budget for a planer, jointer, miter saw, table saw, etc. (even though I have a table saw)
Thank you
Hey, great video first off. I'm sure a lot of people really benefited from. More importantly I wanted to say I love the shirt.
Thank you! Got the shirt from Mardels (Christian and Teacher supply store)
my name is Chris, I'm just starting out in woodworking, I've watched alot of utube videos, yours has recently become an inspiration to me and based on what I 've seen yours is by far the best. You've given me an idea I never even thought of, and that is your religious point of view. I have been wondering how to succeed in my passion of wood working, and I've have decided how I'm going to proceed with my business, in which I don't have yet, but I'm working on it. I am going to try a whole different approach and through the Gospel. Thank You , Truly. ChrisK
This was excellent! It was to the point--no fluff. Thanks
Thank you for being awesome and generously making this knowledge assessable to everyone, and I find your instruction style succinct and thorough.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video and even more excellent advice! Thank you. I appreciate this more than you know!
Thank you for the kind words!
Thank you for sharing your top 5 projects. Very generous act. Love you
you are so generous with your info - I appreciate your generosity!
Thank you. This is one of the most useful videos I've watched in a long time.
Glad to hear it! Thank you
This was an outstanding video, Matt. Thanks for posting it. I loved it and I learned a lot. God has blessed you and you are a blessing to many others. Thanks again. Stay safe.
Thank you. Yes I am blessed for sure.
This is most generous of you. Thanks alot
Wow! Awesome, i formative video that gave me some great ideas to try! Back in January, i renovated my Chiropractic office... mostly by myself...but had a couple guys help with more involved parts that i was completely unfamiliar with... i went with a 'country chic' style... a barn door on rolling rails..some corrugated metal accents, .shiplap on a couple walls, and I built 3 rustic garden benches. Building & staining those benches was fun and therapeutic. Some ladies from a hair salon in the building LOVED how they looked and sat...I said that I was taking orders for them and they both jumped at the chance! And they didn't bat an eye at the $175 pricetag.
I think I'll try some end tables and kennel tables this winter!
Thank you sir. Keep up the good work! And may God CONTINUE to RICHLY bless you!
Thank you. Glad the video helped!
Appreciate the transparency in what you're doing to make money. Truly an inspiration. Have been looking to get started doing something like this myself so it's greatly appreciated! Can't wait for more of these videos!
Thank you
Thank you for this video, I’m currently starting my own business like you do and it’s been very helpful! Thank you a lot!
You're welcome!
Hey Matt, this is the third time I've watched this video and it NEVER gets old!!! You are SUCH an inspiration!!! I've used some of your favorite verses in my Sunday school class.
Awesome! Thank you!
Subscribed! From U.K. and have a small workshop and fed up of seeing videos of “simple woodwork projects” then they go in a shop with everything you can imagine! This video is brilliant! Humble and honest! Thank you and I’m going to get a lot of help from your videos 😊
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you, I honestly have never thought about the stove thing or the dog kennel and I even built one for myself with my two golden retrievers.
Awesome! Glad it helped
Great ideas! I'm pretty new to both woodworking and trying to sell stuff I make, and so your tips and assurances about the tools and simplicity of building them is very encouraging. I have a full set of excellent tools and a huge garage to store some things. I'm looking forward to perhaps making some extra money using them as well! God bless you! Love the passage on your t-shirt too!
Thanks for being so thorough.
Just want to say thank you for the video. Appreciate all the detail you went into from tools, projects, and generalized pricing on items. Looking forward to more posts!
Thank you
Thank you, your videos have been such a help! I just started doing woodworking to supplement my income as a teacher 😁. With your videos I've gone from using a drill for the first time to selling my first 5 pieces of furniture and made over $1k! You are so kind and such a blessing to us out here trying to make ourselves better! I appreciate you! God Bless!
Thank you
What did you make/sell?
As someone just beginning this journey, I am very grateful for this video. You’re doing a huge service by helping people like me.
Happy to help
Great tips. Looking forward to the next video 👍🏻👍🏻
So glad I found your channel! I’ve been trying to talk my husband into building things to sell for years. He’s really good and experienced at woodwork. I am just breaking into it but my daughter has made a lot of her furniture, and it all is very good quality!
Welcome
Dude, this was so well put together and informative. Definitely subscribed!
You’re exceedingly generous with your knowledge.
I appreciate that.
Thank you for sharing brother! That speaks so greatly as to one's character and I hope you continue to be in God's blessings in the future for what you are paying forward. I've been in the construction business since I was a kid and I have just recently got into trying to market myself as a craftsman looking for ideas to add to my portfolio and these items are definitely in my wheelhouse as well as items that should do well here in middle Tennessee. Thank you again bud! New Subscriber, Brian.
I appreciate that!
Thank you! I appreciate it
An informative, sincere, helpful guy! What’s not to appreciate and like!
THANK YOU, for just being who you are!
Thank you. A great starting reference.
Great video Matt! I’ve built one of your end tables for us and I’ve built 2 of the ship lap farmhouse TV stands, one for me and the wife and one for my daughter. Building a 3rd for a friend. Love your channel. Keep up the good work. Going to try to start making a bit of money at it as I inch toward retirement.
Thank you. Glad the videos have helped you
I will be Honest, before I pressed play I was thinking, here we go another False Title.....Wow!! Not only was I Wrong, but Thank you!!! You are the Real Deal, very Talented, and Great Delivery. Thank You!! Awesome Work Brother.
Many thanks for this. Good bit of insight and inspiration. I recently started woodworking (when I have the spare time) and quickly realized I needed help-mainly because I was clueless on how to do things efficiently and well. I appreciate your tips and advice on how to start and where to go. Just what I needed. Thanks again. Blessings to you and your family.
Thank you
Thank you for the advice, man. This video was super helpful.
We are re-doing our family room, we have the floors down, the walls painted and then looked around and have no furniture we want to put in it.....just yesterday hubby and I were talking about getting tables and a coupe side tables...we have chairs already picked out....amazing timing on this video. We will be making a tv stand, 3 side tables (1 for each chair) thanks again
That sounds great! I bet they'll be great!
You give me confidence i can do this. I have tools and i have space. I just need to keep watching videos and keep learning. I love working with wood and im gonna give it hell. I will use your advice though, im gonna start with little projects and maybe move up to bigger projects later. Just built a shed for myself, and learned from many mistakes, so im gonna go with small projects for now. Thanks for your story its inspiring.
Go for it!!
I'm convinced woodworking isn't your calling, being a instructor or tutorial guide is. Real good genuine video. Thank s
Thanks 👍
I appreciate your openness Cheers.
Thanks for the encouragement..i made 1 coffee table exactly like the one u show on this video. 👍
Awesome!
Wow, what an incredible video, great editing, well organized, easy to follow, straight forward, with all the links and info needed. Very impressed. Subbed.
I appreciate that
Excellent thanks for some great advice ........love the tables....
Thank you so much for all the information!
Good ideas, especially the indoor dog kennel, could be used for cat's as well. Good video and advice.
Yes it could. Just move the bars closer together
Kreg has the best customer support!
I have the K4 Pocket Hole Jig.
I did something stupid and sheared off the drill guide locking pin (a set screw that holds the drill block in place) and the drill block was locked in place; no way to back the drill guide stub out of the drill block hole.
I called Kreg support and they sent me a new K4, no questions asked.
They are great. My K5 vise messed up because I over righted it on something. I reached out to them and they sent me a replacement vise at no cost to me. This was after my warranty period too!
Thank you so much for all the details and information you give in your videos! Your videos are priceless! I’ve learned so much! ❤️
I stumbled upon this video without looking for it and am totally tickled that the focus is on selling the items you build. I have an item in mind that I want to build and sell and came onto RUclips to get workbench ideas...tired of working on the garage floor and a pair of sawhorses. Great timing and pretty encouraging. I almost feel like I have a mentor :)
Those stove covers are something I've never seen before and I'm planning on making one for myself, mostly because I would like extra work area for making and kneading bread, so I think I'll add some rubber gorilla glue mat to the bottom for grip and put in some hooks so I can attach it above the stove and maybe use it as an extra storage/spice rack right under the microwave.
Caution: Older gas cook stoves have standing pilots( little flames) at or near each burner to ignite them. Do not use these on those type of cook stoves!
Awesome video! Love seeing “real people” on here. This video covered it all
From top To bottom. Can’t wait to try out some of your ideas and the dog kennel idea is awesome! That could do really well in a lot of areas! Can’t wait to watch more of the how to videos!

Looks like the youtube algorithm finally found this channel. Checking out some your old vids pretty cool. Gonna sub and wait til you blowup and do a shop build!
Lol. I appreciate the kind words. Not sure if a shop build is in my future. But it would be AWESOME!
