Hello!! My name is Brad. I live in ar and im disable and am getting in to woodworking, or more specifically bowl making as a way to keep my self busy and to supplement my income! I got a lot of good info from one of ur videos but i have one question. Im ot good at determining the worth of my products!! Do u have any advice in pricing ur products?
Hi Matt from Coachella CA. I'm glade I saw your video. The advice you give is outstanding. I have to be honest. I don't sell over the internet as I took a different route. I started wood work just over three years ago making small items for my home. Like you said in your video, I was sending before and after photos to family and friends. Request from family and their coworkers started to come in. I freaked out! That's how I got my start. About two years ago I made the decision to sell. Like most of your subscribers I work a full time job and have very little money. Like the great advice in your video, make a plan. So I contacted two local irrigation companies that discard so much wood. I get more than thirty 4x4x8 per week. At $11 each. Do the math. Add free 2x4 and ply wood. I also contacted realtors and companies that flip houses in my area. Accent walls, barn doors request never stop. They also request barn style dining tables and coffee tables for staging or as a gift for the new home owners. Like the great advice in your video. Be divers. I bought a small welding machine and started to sell metal barn doors. I started making wood tables with metal legs, frames or metal added to the project. Thank you for the great advice.
I would very much love to see a video on marketing on Etsy. I just got a 44 ft circular sawmill and am setting up a wood shop to build my own products for sale. Your video was the first I found when looking at marketing wood products. Subbed. I will be watching your videos. Thanks.
Wow.. Your video just gave me courage to start a woodworking business. My husband and I have remodeled bath rooms, added a bathroom from a closet, remodel several kitchens and built a home theater from scratch. My husband LOVES to build. So we also enjoy building outdoor pergolas and last year we built an outdoor daybed that is absolutely beautiful. Thank you all the good information. I know the products I want to sell is for unique customers that enjoy luxury outdoor furniture. I’m going to give it a try.. why not!
Hi Matt! Old retired guy here. I’ve renovated many properties over the years and have some building skills. I think you’ve inspired me to make and sell woodworking projects. I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to produce these videos. I appreciate your easy going attitude and willingness to share ideas! Big fan here!
I really appreciate the video. You have given more information in 16:46 minutes than I’ve been able to gather in weeks, maybe months of watching RUclips videos. Please keep up the good work.
I’m trying to start my own wood working business, and watching this video is so motivating!! I loved it and will keep watching. I’m excited to see what’s next!
Mr matt, I have been watching you for awhile now and I like your sense of humor and you have a lot of good tips and tricks for wood working, I am like you when you started, I only have a miter saw and a circular saw, heck I don't even have a place to do wood working but, I hope and pray some day I will and like you I believe God will help me do this, thank you for all your inspiration, you are a blessing from heaven
By far my favorite RUclips channel. The only downside is I probably watch more than I should while at work! Best part, if I get fired for said downside, I can do start my new dream full time job, woodworking!
I am a recent subscriber and I love your videos. You are down to earth, honest, and I appreciate the time and effort you are putting in to share what you've learned. I'd love to see a video on how you set up your Etsy store.
Matt, your videos are the best! For the last year I've been watching every one of your videos, some several times, you've helped me do a life long desire and that is woodworking. You give such great advice and awesome projects, many of which I have made. Keep doing great videos, I've learned a lot from your videos and for that I want to say THANK YOU!!!.

Love, love, love your shirt! And your videos. Thanks for the help, most woodworkers don't want to share their pricing. All of us out there appreciate it.
Awesome video, thank you!!! Yes I would love to see how Etsy works for you, like to see some good tips on that topic. Another topic is when as a new woodworker is it time to open an actual LLC ?
Hi, Matt! I'm a hazardous materials tank truck driver in Toledo, Ohio, who has had enough of the craziness on the roadways & looking to get out of trucking and into woodworking. You have given me great inspiration where family and friends have really been negative and doubtful I can do it. I am 60, but still have desire to be my own boss, but they do shake the heck out of my confidence in myself. I am Building a small shop in our garage at our rented house, so I am very limited from the start. Just want to tell you "thank you" for the morale booster. I really need it. I have already gotten about 75% done with the storage chest from plans from you, ( for my 91 year old mother who still quilts, drives, and just keeps on staying busy!) and have a couple more plans, stove covers, safer crosscut sled, etc. Please keep the build videos coming & keep up the great work! And congratulations to Mrs. 731 on her upcoming retirement from teaching! Thanks again.
Hi, I have a confession, when your video popped up as a RUclips recommendation, I thought nah, not for me, white dude, skin head with an accent like yours, how prejudice or unconscious bias we can all be, I'm so glad I watched your video and have gone on to watch the rest. You give some of the best relatable tips and advise I have ever come across on RUclips. I just wanted to say thanks, and please keep up the good work.
I'd also be interested in hearing your thoughts on using social media to promote your business. Do you have a business Facebook page? Do you make random posts showing "baby steps" of your progress? Does your RUclips channel help you sell things by getting your name out there?
Matt, i just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all your videos and insights. I have been searching for a way off the road (trucker) for years now, and your videos have been very helpful. I have always loved woodworking but very little training. God has blessed me with a broken elbow to get me off the road for a while to set up my basement so i can start working the plan. Looking forward to future videos and just wanted to reach out. I can tell from your frequent attire you will understand the meaning of this statement…I appreciate you and pray God will bless you and your family with much happiness and success.
Thrilled to have found your channel, just as my husband and I are starting a woodworking business. You've given us a lot of hope with all these tips. Thanks very much
another great info loaded video. Thanks Matt. By the way, all my dad's people are up in the Evening Shade, Cave City area. Had an aunt and uncle with a chicken farm outside Hot Springs. Used to go on vacation there every summer when I was a kid. Love Arkanasas. Last time I was there was on my way to Viet Nam. Miss it. May God always be with you sir, you do a fine job and service.
I really do appreciate you taking the time to post this video. Recently started finding more things to make than just end tables and I’m loving it! So now, naturally, I need to market the items to generate sales. Thank you. Also, I really do appreciate your video on woodwork finishing.
Your a solid guy homie. I've framed houses, residential, commercial and custom for over 20 years in Arizona. The heat got to much for me so now I've started getting wood from pallets an got a mitre saw (Delta Cruzer 12" to be exact) an I just wanna say thank you for sharing some of your much needed knowledge as this is all brand new to me, well the selling part anyways. I subscribed.
A lot of good things in this video. Its gave me ideas. I say watch this video at least a couple of times and take notes. I know i did. You showing a progress of something your building to a customer was something I did a week ago and the customer loved it.
Thank you for great information that I can pass on to my husband! This is the first video that ive came across that addresses our issues! My husband works full time night shift he sleeps a few hours and gets up and builds then goes back to work night shift, same circle everyday. His dream is to be able to sell enough projects to be able to buy more tools and make woodworking a business fulltime. I will share this video with him. Thank you
I have built quite a few items around the house for my wife. It's currently a hobby that that I quite enjoy, and have gotten fairly good at. I've had multiple people tell me that I should start selling this stuff. Watching this video (as well as a few others of yours) has definitely helped give me more confidence in making the leap. I really appreciate all the tips. If I do decide to start selling things, I will be employing several of your tips in my business strategy.
Thanks for the tips, Matt. I started selling on FB Marketplace a couple of months ago and can't believe the amount of sales I've gotten. There are two things I've found that are KEY to success and you mentioned them. Great pictures are VITAL to getting responses. Staged items and good lighting are ways to get those. The other thing is boosting a Facebook Marketplace ad. I've boosted for as little as $3 and noticed increased responses. The number one piece of advice is (besides building good products) is to conquer the fear of posting for the first time. That mental battle is real, but it gets easier once you get past it. Your tips will definitely help people out! I'd be interested in learning more about Etsy, too. Thanks!
I'm just starting out with my Wood working hobby/Part-time business. I'm also trying to build my RUclips Channel in the process. I really appreciate this video, it has a lot of great information.
Awesome info!! Thank you so much for being so transparent and helping us beginners get a jump start with all of the pro tips. You have one of the best RUclips channels on the web. 👏🏽🙌🏽💯
I’ve watched several of your videos and came away educated. I got bored at some of the campgrounds while traveling around in our motorhome, so I made room in our storage bay for a miter saw and a contractor table saw and a few hand tools and I started making flags🇺🇸 I donated a few to the campgrounds and I sold most of the flags to the people camping at the campgrounds. Just making flags I made enough money to pay for the miter saw and the contractor table saw. We built a new house and I am setting up my garage as a small wood shop. I have already made four flags one hallway entry table and a blanket ladder and a dog ramp for our dog to get up onto the couch and I built a Queen size platform bed with an extra large headboard with Black pipe Edison lighting came out great...just stuff for the house right now but stuff I can sell later on. That’s my Plan. Thanks for the inspiring videos.🙏😊
@731 Woodworks, thank you for all your videos and honesty. It's hard to find videos were people are so honest. BTW, I'm a beginner woodworker from the Bootheel of Missouri.
Thank you for the tips . I was laid off in March and have been trying to build my woodworking/cnc business and have been struggling with marketing and selling my items.
Right now I'm struggling, real bad don't even have 4 walls around me or a door for my living space. I could fix this with the money I got but if not have much left I have done construction, I made a beautiful Alaskan style dog house. I wanna try my shot at doing woodworking in my small town and I think it will go well here. We got roughly 4,800 people in town and nearest place with decent furniture is an hour away, so my hope is to help people here and help myself as well. Very excited to get started and tomorrow I am beginning thanks for all these videos man.
Thanks! This was an excellent video!! I just found you and subscribed to your channel. I am already doing some of the things you suggested. Rather than sending photos of the progress on a customer's piece, I make daily progress videos. I prep the videos for my RUclips channel, mark them as unlisted. Next, I send my customer the link to the video of the day. When the project is finished, I start setting all of the videos to release, one per day, until all videos of the project have been posted. That way my customers get to see all of their product's videos before the public sees the first video. I have had very good response from my customers, many of them thanking me for their progress reports!! Thanks again, Frank Jenkins, Pops Custom Signs, LLC.
Love your generous, down to earth, simple explanations that help the likes of me (new to this world) understand projects and selling strategies. I have only recently discovered you here and have not seen all of your content yet, so apologies if you've already covered this. You mentioned in this video that you would consider doing an Etsy dedicated video if there was interest. I would be keen to learn more. BTW, I built your squaring/tapering dovetail clamp sled today. Simple, easy to follow instructions and seems to work perfectly. Thank you for that.

Thanks Matt...I really like your tips, and your projects.
Thank you
I’ve watched several of your videos and came away educated.

Thank you for the tips . I was laid off in March and have been trying to build my woodworking/cnc business and have been struggling with marketing and selling my items.
Glad to help

Glad you enjoyed it!
Your crushing it! Well done Matt 👊🏻
Thank you
Right now I'm struggling, real bad don't even have 4 walls around me or a door for my living space.
Thank you that’s an excellent idea
Fantastic! What a great video. How very encouraging.
Thank you
Love your generous, down to earth, simple explanations that help the likes of me (new to this world) understand projects and selling strategies.
