    Hey man Army vet here. but I actually got into wood work after getting a peloton and wanting to find a cycling shoes hanger. They are very expensive, I saw it and said "I can make that". At this time I didnt have any tools for cutting wood, my wife and I put some money and got the basics. I made mine and my wife put it up on Etsy and up to now we've sold 4. Good side project to make some side money. Also made my own floating shelves a few weeks back. Great channel man. Love the ideas and the energy!!!

    I am going to try to make some of these. I got hurt at work and pretty much forced onto disability. I need to supplement my income badly as well as find something positive to do with all the free time I have now. While initially I was going to do pallet furniture because I live beside a carpet store that throws away pallets every day and will let me have them. I found most of the pallets have busted, cracked or broken pieces. I want to say “Thank you” for sharing your wisdom with a beginner. You must be a genuinely good man. Most people are so greedy that they wouldn’t risk losing $0.01 to help their fellow man. God bless you.

    Tip: the RV industry re: those stove tops. The industry doesn't have the edges on the plastic or plastic countertop material that keep stuff from sliding around. Also, any small portable shelf or well made step stool comes in handy to, everyone uses something that isn't near as nice as good woodworking unless they make it themselves. I'm camping out in my truck camper for a few months at a job, and I'm discovering new needs for coat hanging pegs on backing boards, shelves, boot dryer on some swing out hinges across from a heater vent, etc. Those blanket and quilt ladders sized for RV's would probably also be popular. The rv industry supply chain is toast, and their consumer accessories are / were mostly plastic junk anyway. Also, thank you for your flags and promotion of the military and law enforcement, sometimes they need to hear the positive instead of the unfairly negative too. Keep up the good work and thanks again for the videos and information!

    I love how you bring up the Jay Bates thing. How he got you into wood working. I've always been interested in wood working. And I quit drinking in October 2020 and I've been trying different projects since then that keeps me busy, but I always seem to keep an eye on wood working videos and wood burning videos so I'm always coming back to wood. I watch a lot of
    John Malecki's video because he used to play for the Steelers. GO STEELERS!!!!!! And I searched something the other day and your video popped up and I've watching you as well since then. So just like Jay Bates helped you get started, you're helping me get started. Can't wait until Tuesday/Wednesday. I ordered a new more expensive wood burning tool and I order a Rotary Tool. The Rotary tool is the first tool that I'm purchasing to get started. I'm excited and can't wait to get started. I look fwd to learning and watching more of your videos! Thank you Matt!!!!

Thanks for the videos! And especially thanks for using your woodworking designs and RUclips presence for your faith! As a Christian myself, it’s nice to see someone who uses anchors, crosses, and verse numbers in your work! Kudos and keep strong brother!

    I've been wood working for about 20 years ( 18 or so as my full time work), It's good to see people such as yourself encouraging others to make the transition from hobby to business. You've also got me thinking about the flags but where I live (Barbados) doesn't have a flag as sparkly as yours in the US so it may not look sharp. It does have Aqaman's trident on it tho so we'll see, lol.

      Don't get me wrong. I'm all for wood working projects. Especially if you have the skill or tools to put out a good quality product. But the cost of wood right now? How can you even do these projects at a price range that would make them affordable? Take the little shoe bench for example. A 2X6 is over $15 and in some cases over $20 (and you would need two). A 1x4 is over $6. And these are unfinished. The supports will need to be 2X4 so that's another $9. So you already have at least $45 in lumber. And that is not even taking into account, sandpaper, wood screws, stain, or paint. This is easily a $60 project and that is without labor considerations. Assuming an hour construction and sanding. Plus and hour for painting or staining and anything other than selling it for $90 means you are under selling your labor and still not able to match a price on Amazon for similar products.
      On a side note, if your client has large feet, over 12 inches, you are going to have to create a bench wide enough to compensate for the extra long shoes. So that is another 2X6 and another 1X4 which puts your materials in the $75 range. Now mind you, your client probably isn't going to find a similarly long product on Amazon, so you can make a profit on this niche market. You could probably sale a finished product for $150 and clear quite a bit. But I should point out this bench is going to be heavy and how many people would you know that are such large footed and want want of these benches?
      If wood prices would drop down to what they were 2 years ago. I'd say go for it. You could sale them for $90 each and have still made a reasonable profit. But right now. I just don't see it. Not with wood prices where they are at.

    I started woodworking when I retired two years ago making Adirondack chairs, benches, birdhouses etc. just like you do. the only difference is I make everything out of salvaged wood i find, (side of the road, dumps etc.) It makes it so much more of a challenge working around the imperfections and flaws of the wood and is very rewarding and when I tack the word "rustic" onto the ad people grab them right up! I'm looking forward to getting some of the plans. thank you for your videos.

I haven't had a minivan for a long, long time. I'll have to get another mom truck if I learn how to make all of these woodshop projects. Buying a bench from his store might be a little more affordable though.

    • @steelsunpi

      They've held up great. I haven't had one fail yet.
      You can cut them shorter, but to use in many projects would require additional power connectors and adapters, which would cost about the same as a new strip.

    I'm still struggling to find tubatwelves that don't resemble slop troughs. My first desk came out looking like a crayon drawing by a six year old. Mr. Murphy has always been a close companion of mine, but he and his law were working overtime on that one. All I can say about it is that it works. Like an old moped it'll get you there, but you wouldn't want your friends seeing you on one.

      Your better off either cutting the 2*12 into strip and then gluing them back together, wood is a natural product and dressed lumber is never really flat. You can flatten em with a plane. Router sled or planer

    • @jond661
      @jond661 3 года назад +1

      I find it easiest to cut strips to What I want the final thickness to be or just a bit more then rotate em 90degrees and glue em together so that the cut edges endup making up both faces. Unless your fence drifts the cut edges should be pretty even. Might not always get true flat but it will be close enough.
