    Excellent vid. I have a 2002 Ltd Sequoia thats got 200K. Gloss black Repaint, copper powder coat on stock OEM rims, new shocks/struts, alternator, timing belt, water pump, radiator, fan pulley, thermostat, powerstop z36 front and rear, sending unit for gas gauge thats faulty, speakers + Pioneer receiver, lower ball joints, underseal frame, basket roof rack, setpower fridge freezer. Done for a12k trip across country this summer. As for the back…seats will be removed and i will construct a single bed behind the passenger side seat out of 2x3 and plywood with two main storage areas underneath. A narrow 12-15 inch isle space to be able to sit on bed. With a similar, but shorter construction for a galley area behind the driver side seat. This will hold fridge, two burner cooker, water containers and plastic bowl for dishes. Entertainment….small area set aside for dvd player, some decent literature and whisky. I had used this set up in a chevy Silverado with a high rise topper before. The improvement here, obviously, is that I dont have to get out of the vehicle to access the camper living area…a huge plus for a number of reasons. With the complete new paint job and a few dent removal jobs+ all parts listed above and labour i am into around 10-11 k$ currently. I can sleep in this for days on end..no problem saving 100$ a night over motels so it does make overlanding affordable simply shelling out for gas. I am doing this at nearly 70 years of age no problemo…so if an old crock like me can make it work then anyone can!

    I enjoyed the video very much. My wife and I have converted a 2005 Sequoia Limited we've owned since 2007. It currently has 266K miles and is still going strong. I spent about the same amount as you did on the rear wood platform/drawer system. The main difference in design I left the the two second row seats in place in the folded over position so the front part of the platform rested some of the weight on the seats. This allowed me to double hinge the platform top so I could fold it up and have seating for 4 people if we need to. The only downside to this design is the head room in the sleeping set up is a little limited, but we have huge long drawers in the back full of all kinds of gear. We have a Prinsu rack with extra water and fuel tanks. We're still working the suspension and bumper upgrades. I'm wearing out the current set of tires before we upgrade the wheels, tires, and suspension. I loved the Rocky Mountain bike rack. I'll need one of those. We're going to add the awning this summer. It's been a fun project and it is definitely way more budget friendly doing it this way. We already owned the Sequoia so we didn't have buy the vehicle. We have splurged on some nicer gear like a Partner Steel break apart stove, a Stanley Cook set and a Lifesaver water can with pump and filter. It's been a fun project and we can go most anywhere we want.

      I'm considering the same platform setup so 2nd row seats are convertible on family trips for each night to sleep kids inside, and either carry our Gazelle tent or maybe a roof top tent in the future.

Just installed Softtopper($500 from FB marketplace), did break pad replacement, MAF sensor cleaning by my self. A bit of wear in driver leather seat, rear bumper and tailgate and some paint chip from normal use but I love my 2006 Tundra. just bought 5*8 utility trailer for hauling business and it goes well(bring me $1,000-$2,000 per month)

If so which notch are they set on and how much of a lift (roughly, I know you bought it this way) does that provide from stock height? Was there an adjustment you needed to make after adding the weight of the coastal bumper? Im considerinf the same one for my truck. I would definitely move the kitchen to the back. It will give you more room to prep and cook food. Also with the “closet” right behind the driver’s seat you could set up a tiny awning for a road shower/changing area in the future. You are not always going to be on BLM lands. Little extra privacy doesn’t hurt.

    Hey man. Thanks for sharing! I'm planning on buying a Sequioa in spring and living out of it fulltime. When the mattress is placed on top of your box can you sit up Indian style? Or are you forced to lay down? What's your height? I was looking at the coastal offroad kit... How challenging is it? For someone with minimal mechanical skills (I can do oil changes, small repairs) how challenging was it to put together and onto the vehicle? Thanks again for the video.

    • @ChasingYourAdventure
      @ChasingYourAdventure  Год назад

      I can sit up all the way and my head does not touch the roof. I am 5'11. that is why my box is only like 5 inches tall instead of some other peoples boxes which are much larger.
      I highly recommend the coastal offroad kit if you know someone who can weld pretty well. I can't weld but can follow the instructions and had someone help me with it. It can be a bit of a pain but I think it was worth it for the price!

    I've been trying to decide on getting a 1st or Second Gen. I have that engine in my 4Runner and I can't imagine it being too quick in the tree. I like the 381HP (and what?.. 400lb/ft torque?) of the second Gen. I DO prefer the look of the 1st Gen over the 2nd Gen manatee though.

    • @ChasingYourAdventure
      @ChasingYourAdventure  2 года назад +1

      You’re definitely right. The 2uz is no where near a quick engine but I don’t need to go fast, I just enjoy the reliability. It would help off-road with some more horses but it hasn’t hurt me. 2nd gen has much better components but man the first gen is timeless design

    • @ww5511
      @ww5511 2 года назад

      @@ChasingYourAdventure I like the fact it kind of looks like my 2001 4runner. I have that lifted, 2x batteries, winched... mostly icon off-road stuff and while I love it, it's not big enough to really sleep in comfortably.

    • @johnriley7053
      @johnriley7053 2 года назад

      Just remember the 2nd gens are very wide. They can go down most all trails, but when you have to do pull offs or get in tight areas... it is that much tight-er.
      3UR-FEs (5.7s) are absolute animals, but if you take one to red line you will be going close to 80 mph. The horsepower isn't really functional... but it is awesome! 4.7s are more than enough, I have both.

      I raised the bilsteins up from the 2nd notch to the top notch to get rid of my rake and get some more clearance up front knowing it would make the ride stiffer. I would probably keep it on the 3rd notch. Just a pain in the rear to change back. So I’m okay with how it is right now.
