For me, it's logging season while the ground is hard. Select timber and invasive trees/ shrubs, and limbing trees. The little critters are hibernating deep in the ground. The ground is hard and doesn't get wrecked by my tractor. Just to make room for more trees in the spring.
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Happy New Year to you all as well. We're hoping to get some late season hunting done since we're supposed to get a little bit of snow this Afternoon and Sunday.
Bedding areas are again number 1 on my list. Just walked into one I created last winter in February. Numerous beds and about a dozen rubs I found on 12/31.
Jeff I run solar panels on every camera I own. True they can be a bit more daunting to hide, but they don’t need direct sunlight to charge. Even under full canopy they do fine. It’s the only way to go.
I use Moutrie Edge cams with duracells set on 5 min delay(reduced during peak rut), immediate upload, and my cams I put out sept 1st are all still over 70% battery life.
Hi Donald! We've had the solar panels die in shade pretty easily. Lots of them. When fully charged they add about 60-70% additional "battery" capacity but will not recharge without sun. So they do give the camera more life in total shade. We've found AA lithiums last almost as long as a solar panel and lithium battery combo in complete shade, so a lot less hassle just to use AA lithiums. Great in total sun tho...or at least 50% daily sun exposure! The new solar panels from Reveal are incredible!!
@ hmmmm, I have never had a solar panel die even in deep woods areas. I do make sure they face south if at all possible. I kid you not, I have multiple cameras that have been out over a year on regular batteries. Haven’t touched them. In some high frequency areas to boot. All Camojojo cameras and solar panels. Love your content and stories Jeff. I only wish I had land that I could use your services for. 👊🏻🦌
Great video. Its jan 2 and we still got one more month to hunt here in ohio then its time to bust out the chainsaw. Jeff do you prefer to clear cut aspen or hinge cut
That's great you guys still have a month to go! Jen and I will go for some does towards the end of January...can't wait! Definitely clearcut pockets...you never want to hinge cut Aspen as it will kill the tree and they don't side sprout. Make sure you get plenty of sun to it as well
Jeff, I hear you talk a lot about creating bedding with hinge cuts and how much work it is but very rarely discuss having a commercial sale and getting paid for your timber. Is there a specific reason why?
Hi Kyle! You have to have marketable timber, to harvest timber. So when I talk about creating bedding habitat I quite often talk about harvesting timber is the #1 option and hinge cutting is less than 20% of the time. On my parcel, in particular we talk about hinge cutting very little, actually. Instead we show complete cutting with a face cut most often. I edge feathering we show a combination of cuts but the tree determines the cut, with no marketable timber along our edges. The size and variety of the timber along the edges determines what cut is used. In our woods this, hing cuts make up a small % of the cuts, as determined by the size and variety of the tree. Our # tree we cut in the parcel is Aspen ..so those are largely complete cuts to promote lateral root sprouting. Again tho, I talk about hinge cutting as a small portion of what we typically recommend, or show in the field. And then encourage folks (including clients) to harvest timber when they have timber to harvest, as the best option.
Hi Carlo... definitely the same concepts 😊 But even in Eastern Ontario the habitat can vary greatly! Happy New Year...we always appreciate you watching!
The Reveal battery life was atrocious this year. Tons of other people on the Tactacam Facebook groups have had the same issue. I only run two SK's, so I have the lipo packs, and at least they are only a couple miles up the road from me.
The SKs have been bad since the beginning...at least the old models. We run about 60/65 and get an average of 3-4 months with 10 second video. We get several months to a year+ on pics. However, if they are in a bad cell recep spot they go thru batteries faster, in particular if folks set them on immediate send. Also, many are new to cell cams in general...they put them on a bait pile with 200 pics a day...or even way more, and no camera is set up to last a long time on a few hundred pics a day. We set them on mock scrapes and funnels for trying to get buck pics only, for the most part. Or inside corners of food plots on a scrape. I don't want to wade thru hundreds of pics per day, ever, either per camera. We put our cameras out last with fresh batteries in August, on 10 second video. A few are still working. We also use AA Lithiums in season. They last longer than the litho packs and a lot longer than any non lithium battery. We actually get about 25 litho packs out right now, when we don't mind them running out sooner, as we are on the land a lot during the off season. The new solar panel and litho pack combo is awesome!! Cameras not in a bait pile can last a year + on those I get to see every model out there...and I can with all honesty say the Reveals last the longest. We went to a KY guide this year who uses a non reveal because of overall cost...but their cell cameras literally don't last a week. Folks often think another camera will be better...until they use another camera.
Hope everyone had a great holiday, only 9 months until Pennsylvania archery opener, watching and listening to Jeff's video on RUclips, love it.
I can’t wait for the 2025 archery season here in northeastern Pa. Good luck next season

HAPPY NEW YEAR JEFF AND JEN. 🦌
Thanks so much Steve! Happy New Year to you!
Just finished my last sit yesterday 😢…it’s over for us here. Hey let’s make 2025 a great one. Hand to plow let’s get it!
Get after it! Hope you have a great off season!
Thanks Jeff and Team. Hope everyone had a great holiday and best wishes for 2025.
Thanks so much Jason, we have really been blessed! Happy New Year!
Good Morning from Central Illinois and thanks for the info.
Thanks a lot Jerry...you are very welcome and Happy New Year!

That's pretty awesome Marc, and very rewarding!
Inspect those hanging stand cables at the crimps boys! Good video mr sturgis happy new year
Amen to that! So important...and one reason I don't use stands with cables.
Happy New Year!

I've personally seen a few dozen of these trail cams last less than a week...just depends on where they are placed.

Happy new year guys thank you for the info😅
Happy New Year Paul, thank you so much!
Second year with your seed produtos and some of your technecs shot my best buck this fall in the radish and turnip food plot
Rattlesnake Stew is a SE Minnesota dish. 👍
Haha, I like that! I've heard tasty!
Hey guys, even rattlesnakes have their place in a balanced ecosystem.
Yes they do...just don't want to encourage them. Or plant habitat for them. We will leave that up to your land 😊
Thanks Jeff, already thinking brassicas are out on my property. I think they’re going to rot for a second year in a row.

jeff can you do a video for north eastern Ontario canada.
big woods no farm land private property, and how you would set it up .? Thank you Carlo 🇨🇦
All the Best to you Jeff your Family & your Team in 2025!

Huge snow coming through on Sunday for southern Illinois. How should I approach this weather for a hunt?
What would you advise be for food plot when you have cows on your property in northeast Georgia
Literally, a fence. I haven't seen a viable food plot you can manage with cattle hitting it. They destroy just about every piece of the habitat
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks so much love yalls content. Got a ton of work to do
I'm thinking of starting red osier from seed. I'll be starting next month. Any other tips?
We can still buck hunt
That's awesome!
I would trade my left leg to see how you would design my property.
It's not worth THAT much 😁 Maybe a toe or something, ha
Appreciate you!
I think WHS is now accepting cash payments for consult work now, so I'd go that route
🦌😁
First, what's up?
Endocrinologist appointment. Can’t harvest every first!
