Excellent comparison!! Whoops, I am little late to the party as my Ioniq 6 Hankook Ventus 2's need replacing and I am deep diving into tire tech. LRR tires are a work in progress with tires, like the EcoContact 6, making compromises to optimize efficiency and the EcoContacts are probably the most efficient tires out there. But most folks don't like them because of their handling in weather and because they tend to wear out fairly quickly and, like a lot of LRR tires, they haven't got a lot of tread new: 7mm / 8/32 I believe. But that is similar to my Ventus 2's and I did get just south of 30,000 miles which isn't bad. The new LRR tire from Hankook, the Ion EVO AS sounds like a good tire with good tread depth, wear, handling and excellent efficiency . . . but they are not available in Ioniq 6 18" size north of the border yet.

      Thanks!
Yeah the ecocontact6 is awesome, but you're right they're burning through the tread pretty quick.
But as they're only a summer tire, you can afford to let them go down to very low tread before needing to replace them.

@@edsgarage001 No #1 is that you like them. I am iffy about the Ventus 2's. They never really felt solid . . . unlike my X-ICE Winters. The EcoContacts don't get the greatest reviews from Tyre Reviews and from some online but their efficiency is amazing.

Interesting test Ed. Harder to do maybe but try one on wear. We often hear from the EV haters that they go through tires 2-3 times faster than normal tires due to the battery wait. My wife has 22 Model 3 dual motor with the original tires and they have 36,000 K on them. I have a digital and manual tire gauge and are checking them regularly. The tire wear is completely normal.

Yeah the consensus is that they wear about 25% faster. Though that's tough to test.... I'd need an equivalent model ice car on the same tires. And I'd need to watch the difference over tens of thousands of km. That's not a video I'm willing to try to make 😂

They attribute it to launches also. The assumption being that people will be using max acceleration with some frequency.

My first EV BMW i3 changed the Bridgestones after circa 30k miles. My second EV VW ID3, had Bridgestone EV tyres too, changed on the rears after 9k miles.
I really think it depends on the car and tyre combo.
In my experience, EV tyres don’t make you go through tyres less often. And I wouldn’t consider 9k miles normal wear, quite aggressive. ID3 isn’t that much heavier than a 5 series BMW so I didn’t expect this level of wear.
My 3rd EV comes with sporty Bridgestone non-ev tyres, I will see how much life I get from those.
As you can see I’m an EV enthusiast, but I have experienced accelerated tyre wear on my EV.

EV's are performance cars and most folks who drive performance cars go through tires quicker than "normal" folks. Plus a lot of EV's ship with LRR OEM's that are a little light on tread which doesn't help. I got 29,000 miles out of my Ioniq 6 OEM's and that's better than some of my OEM ICE over years.

Well... The Nissan leaf is definitely no performance car.. 🤣🤣
But I get where you're coming from
