  • Hundreds of #flood stranded #truckers on I-10 in #california were sleeping due to closures in all directions when a wave of water from a new flood came out of nowhere. @JonathanPetramala helped wake up dozens of motorists #traveling when stranded due to flooding earlier. This is near Thousand Palms, CA. West of this location on I-10 near #palmsprings the interstate was washed out due to a large flood.
Interstate 10 will likely be closed for a considerable amount of time and is the main link between #losangeles and #pheonix
#aerial #drone #video shows the extent of the historic flooding

That cop might have messed up. Someone's probably going to figure out who he is and report him. I understand he's probably at the end of a long shift, but cops are cops all the time, on or off duty. They signed up for it and sometimes the shift is extended. If there's an emergency and you bail, I don't see why we need cops like that. Not to mention running his lights and admittedly just so he could get home. "I don't care.."?! Now THATS what we want to hear from our first responders.

As a company, you know where a truck is headed. Why in the world wouldn't they have turned these trucks around and headed them east until after this storm has passed. They have said for several days that this storm would dump enough rainfall in one day that they get in a year. I do not understand. Now ya got great men and women whom have been put in harms way. God bless you truckers.

Here in the Midwest it floods often enough the we have learned,, some of us anyway to not drive into moving water as it washes out the roads and you will get washed away when you drive into the hole, I sure there will be some of that there. cars also stall when the water gets into the engine.

I have a family member who is a lifelong trucker. They get used to sleeping through honking because plenty of times they stop to sleep in their trucks and there's honking going on from passing traffic. Sometimes they drive long hours so they're exhausted too. The patrol car siren had a better chance of waking them up but the deputy didn't care to do even that.

I think some of you all dont understand desert flash floods...not the same as the midwest (lived a long time in the midwest but from cali)...deserts are dry, but cant soak up the water as fast as it falls...it finds a river, canyon, depression and pours out of the mountains...big mountains
My moms car got taken outside of Vegas about 25yrs ago, she got lucky, but it hadnt rained within 50mi of her, but did in the mountains, hit her without warning
And a tropical storm has never hit Cali in my lifetime...and as for the truckers come one, we all have had that boss...went anaphylactic at work one time...boss called the er to see if i was coming back to finish my shift....js

You'd be surprised. Those big trucks are a lot more top-heavy than you'd expect. When I've been out driving in blizzards in Wisconsin, in a car with 2-wheel drive and a 4-cylinder engine, I can't tell you how many big trucks and full-size SUVs I've seen spun off into snowbanks. The assumptions people make about their big trucks are all wrong; drive faster because you're heavier? Nope. Physics is NOT a guideline, lol.
