Thank you! They require chains but a lot of this was shot on I-80 after they closed it down. They do a really fantastic job keeping it open because it is such an important corridor but usually when snow rates get over 3"/hr and winds start blowing they can not keep up. It becomes nearly impossible for the average person or semi to travel. Thankfully California can not stop media if properly equipped so much of this was shot after the interstate was shut down. Vehicles used for this video were a combination of Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Tundra, both rentals.

At 0:18 is Sugar Bowl ski resort. During the winter of '82-'83 the snow was so deep that the cable for the Mount Lincoln lift was below the snow depth at the top of the mountain. They cut a trench under the lift in that section and you rode the chair through that trench below the snow. With the avalanches sliding down into Silver Belt Gully the snow depth was around 70'. It snowed every month except August of '83. July 17th had 6" of snow at 6000'. Of course now we have global climate warming change and it rarely gets below 70 degrees at Sugar Bowl. With the melting of the glaciers and the rise of the sea level, Sugar Bowl, which used to be at 7000' elevation, is now a popular ocean front surfing destination. If you time it just right you can ride a chairlift to the top of a wave and you don't have to paddle out!

We Are from India.. Most of indian areas are in the tropical region.. Trivandrum.. Capital of southern state of india.. Always temperatures ranges from 33 to 22 degree celsius.. Can't imagine how people survive there, hats off
it's not difficult b/c in California the temperatures never get *that* cold. the overnight low -- and mind you these are the lows at like 4:00am -- at Lake level are around -5C. the average highs at lake level are typically -4C to 2C. and Lake Tahoe, isn't terribly windy like it is in the middle of the continent, so wind chills aren't so bad. i've been skiing in Vermont with a mountain peak windchill of -80C. you have to wear a neoprene mask over your face with your goggles on so that you don't get frostbitten. when it snows hard though, you probably wouldn't believe how hard it snows in California.
I really got frightened seeing this video.. I was comparing my city of Trivandrum, in Kerala, south india.. Also getting really worried about the difficulties the public and state Departments facing. It's touugh to imagine.
@@webdeveler indeed. with big storms, as you know, there's almost always someone who is hurt or passes. someone doesn't get the memo or is unprepared typically
Are snow chains uncommon in America? I am curious as where I live roads get closed to only vehicles with snow chains fitted. When the snow is really bad roads are closed to all users and we don't even get snowfalls like this.
Many of the vehicles in this video have chains. In fact, chains or 4wd with snow tires is required with active check points. Chains help but they aren't a sure thing, particularly with elevation changes and snow so deep that vehicles bottom out.
In a day when people blame everything on AGW, they seam to forget the past. I lived in NV, close to Tahoe. I saw heavy snow, floods and droughts. People fail to understand weather cycles.
I thought about it but to be honest, these edits are taking 18-24 hours to put together as is and there are about 250 cuts in each video and cutting down over 100GB of content. For this one, most of the big snow shots come from Truckee, the towns surrounding Lake Tahoe, Soda Springs, Cisco Grove and other areas right along I-80. The landslide was in Tobin, Ca. The flooding at the end was in Ventura, CA. Hope that helps.

Back in my days of school, they would never even dream of calling a snow day for this kind of accumulation, nowadays they’d call a solid week for one hour of freezing rain
I live in England and just love the snow. We never get it this bad though. Just shoveling my path is heavy work (for an old lady!) When you think about it, snow is just really water. Very dangerous when it's feet high on roofs, they can collapse.
rosemarydudley I suggest watch a 13 part series called _What on earth happened_ by Ewaranon to learn that the earth is not a globe.
I got it in my about tab.

Great footage!
2023 will be a GREAT year for crops.
What are those semis doing there? Don't they know there is snow?
'Wow', that's a lot of snow, i pray that everyone is ok.

@@flat-earther Thank you Perinne, i see you are a fellow 'FE' like me 🙂💕
Serious Snow!!!
I really do like how the insulated frog kept jumping on the lobsters back so his claws wouldn’t freeze while clearing the snow.
A frog lobster combination always makes tough scenarios like these way better.

11:20 How bad would the tires have to be for a Subaru to be stuck in so little snow?
@@RobertMJohnson Hope nobody's hurt 🇺🇸🇺🇦
@@webdeveler indeed. with big storms, as you know, there's almost always someone who is hurt or passes. someone doesn't get the memo or is unprepared typically
Stay indoors when you can - and get fat 😞
Nice video✌✌✌
Are snow chains uncommon in America? I am curious as where I live roads get closed to only vehicles with snow chains fitted. When the snow is really bad roads are closed to all users and we don't even get snowfalls like this.
I LIVES NOT TO FAR AWAY FROM THEM AND WE ONLY GOT RAIN & THEY DON'T NORMALLY GETS THAT MUCH SNOW !! THAT WAS JUST A FREAK SNOW STORM
Many of the vehicles in this video have chains. In fact, chains or 4wd with snow tires is required with active check points. Chains help but they aren't a sure thing, particularly with elevation changes and snow so deep that vehicles bottom out.
@@WxChasing Thanks for the explanation.
Super Winter.
Watching it from Brazil 💯 degrees today miss the snow
Truckers n those who clean the roads are Heroes !!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
Really good compilation thanks.
In Ukraine, the temperature is +5! What is happening to you seems fantastic! Take care of yourself !❤️🙏
I do hope those trapped have some warmth and food, could be a long few days. God bless all
These are from past events and California Highway Patrol does a fantastic job making sure nobody gets in too much trouble.
Incredible video
Почему то меня это радует!
I hanks for being safe appreciate you ROB
Wow I love to see that’s snow from Lorna Higgins faerfaxcountry Va
In a day when people blame everything on AGW, they seam to forget the past. I lived in NV, close to Tahoe. I saw heavy snow, floods and droughts. People fail to understand weather cycles.
People have be conditioned to blame and not think critcally. There are patterns in weather like the carbon cycle.
😊😊 like snow
As I always said 0:40 NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE 😂💪
It would be helpful if they added the names of the cities of each footage shown. 🙏
What kind of truck is that at the start of the video?
Amazing views
nicw video thanks
Зато детям сколько радости...
