All this talk of losing the "expertise" of those with years working with trans children misses the fact that these distressed children need clinicians who will first see them as individual human beings, not trans avatars born in the wrong body. @@johnpixieYou call it 'helping', I call it mutilation. Also, no, most times it did not lead to death but prolonged suffering, which many trans children end up going through.
The five+ year wait list is intentional. The NHS is hoping that by removing access to care, many of these trans kids will be forced to endure puberty while they wait. The pubery-blocker debate becomes a non-issue, bc puberty will have already been allowed to take place. The kids are forced to suffer dysphoria longer, and then have to go through expensive surgeries once they're adults. 14 is too young to make a decision. There is plenty of time. No treatment should be given until they are 21. They are called teenagers, not adults, for a reason.
In contrast, Dr David Bell presents a more thoughtful response eg the role of the unchecked 'affirmation' as a Human Rights directive absent of any clinical consideration - children self diagnosing and Doctors handing out hormone blockers like sweets or candy.
Bell took issue with Tavistock "fast tracking" some children. They weren't following the rules and that WAS a problem.

Children can barely keep their own ideas consistent, there is no way they can be trusted to make a serious decision like changing their gender during puberty.

Your sensationalising through fictionalised comments about trans children's care is despicable.
The only thing that is important and without a doubt is the government has failed these children for years by not providing enough clinicians, clinics and appointments so they don't have to wait until they are adults to receive care due to them from point of need. End of.
They also failed them by having a single pathway available and in some cases pushing them on to it after a couple of sessions post waiting list.
Are you aware that it was the clinicians that wanted to continue lobotomies? And it was the public (so called amateurs) that eventually put a stop to it?? We are all people with opinions and nobody needs to be cancelled from their viewpoint
The kid can thank them later for delaying and blame the educational system for warping her mind once she grows up
Alarmed to see a mental health professional refer to being trans as a 'problem' and a 'disturbance' I know many healthy happy trans adults post transition. Their identity isn't a 'problem' and they are not 'disturbed', they are living fulfilling lives
