OMG….Not watching the rest of the video after 15:09. I’m fine with channels doing a small commercial for a product but when you do two, now you’re wasting our time. Plus it’s for a crappy Company. Had them deny a claim for their clear case that would never yellow and carried a lifetime warranty. They denied it, then after several attempts of contacting them, they never responded. It’s a $29 case, how hard is it to send a replacement? Total garbage company.
So the 5X, I prefer the 5X telephoto for everyday, non photography stuff. “That guy across the street is wearing a stupid hat, I wanna send a pic to my friend”. But for actual photography, I would 100% prefer the 3x. It’s great for portraiture, and I just don’t have any interest in such a long lens. I was bummed to see them get rid of the 3x.
I‘m with you on x3 lens. I had to get a new phone, waited for an Apple event and got … a brand-new 15 pro instead. What were they thinking, how do you leave a gap between somewhat usable 48mm (x2) and a 120mm lens? No portrait-range lens at all and a mild tele to replace a really useful lens? If they don‘t want to put a fourth sensor in the phone, they should at least go with a 77mm and 48mp sensor, that will still give you somewhat decent 12mp at x6…

Smartphones as camera is always a compromise, but I don’t always have my Nikon dslr with all the lenses in my pocket when I might want to use it. My phone, however…
I'm actually keen to test the camera on my iPhone 5. Some of my really old photos have a really … filmic? … look to them, not "good" but just old-fashioned, with crushed blacks etc etc.
I’m still using a 14 Pro Max with a 3x zoom, and it feels just right - I think that that the difference between 2x and 5x just feels too big. I was happy to not get a 15, but I’m undecided about this 16 Pro/Pro Max. That Camera Control sounds wonderful.

missed your poll but I think I would prefer the 77mm lens to 120mm. But do we have any sense yet of how good it will be at computing a good 77mm equivalent shot? (Similarly, how good the plain 16 non-pro will be at this, even without any tele lens?)

This new iPhone makes me wonder what direction they are going for next year. It's almost like this is a step before something bigger. Idk, I can upgrade if I want but may just stick with the iPhone 15 but those new video features are wicked nice.
1:55 I'm confused … why is the size of pro log raw video a concern? Earlier you said you don't see the point of HDR video and just use SDR. But if size matters so much, and you want to manipulate the video, you'll get more out of an HDR compressed video (especially a 4K120 one) and it's also 10-bit, but my point is it has the bitrate to match. Whereas raw has insane bitrates yes, and is for very specific purposes only. I just can't see the purpose of using both extremes - smallest SDR MP4 and huge raw video - when the middle-ground is right there. Every HDR video can be downmapped to SDR if you prefer SDR. But if you want to draw more detail out of it, HDR 10-bit also gives SOME of that to you, but with WAY lower data rates, like 99% better.
So a tip: Even if you're targeting for 4K24 or 1080p24, just shoot 4K120 HDR compressed with HEVC. This has a ton of information that you're used to seeing in virtually-uncompressed footage. Try a bit in your workflow! See if you can tell the footage was shot on HEVC vs ProRes. Obviously it depends what your final delivery format is, but an A/B test would be edifying.

Did the microphones get covered by a case, or are they in the screen? I’m still running an iPhone 13 Pro and it is doing very poorly with my voice to text. As far as video goes I just have too much environmental noise for me to really know if it’s any good. I might look at the iPhone 17, I think that I still have another year left in this one. I got the new iPad this year and I got the AirPod max because the second generation doesn’t have enough changes and Costco had it for $220 less AppleCare included. Way of saying that I’ve already spent all my Apple money for this year.
Please do a video on the best camera settings for the new iPhone, there are new files sizes as well as the photographic styles seem to only work with heif file formats
I actually like that the videos in the photos app don't initiate at full screen. I was sick of having parts of things cut off by buttons, menus, etc. It's still a way bigger image than it would have been full screen back in the day on a smaller phone.
Hopefully next year we will get a 48mp telephoto sensor and then we will finally have caught up to my old Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra from 2021 that had a 50MP main sensor, 48MP telephoto and 48 MP ultra wide. And even though it will have caught up on sensor resolution, it is still WAY behind on sensor size. The Mi 11 Ultra had a 1/1.12" main sensor, 1/2" telephoto and 1/2" ultra wide. The iPhone 16 Pro Max has 1/1.28" main, 1/3.06" telephoto and as yet there's no confirmation of the ultra wide sensor size but you can bet it wont be anywhere near 1/2". I love my iPhone but man, Apple really drags their feet on hardware updates. The mi 11 Ultra had an AMAZING camera. It was a bit inconsistent, probably due to Xiaomi's software/tuning but when it hit the sweet spot, it pumped out photos that were absolutely stunning and still way better than the best photos I have captured on my 15 Pro Max.
Year after year, I wish they allowed us to tune the default micro contrast level. Some like it crazy crisp, like it was shot on Samsung, some others prefer it to be softer. They do quite much for photographers, we can tweak the default photographic styles, but the micro contrast is what I'm really missing, it's the major issue with the non-RAW images I get from the iPhone.
Could you elaborate a bit more on the new spatial video mode? First of all, is it going to be locked behind Apple wall and only viewable on Vision Pro or would we have choice to watch the videos on something like Quest 3 or those 3D stereo smart glasses that are not sold at $3,500+? Also what’s up with the Spatial video limitation at 1080pX60? 3D video at 1080p in 2024??? Vision Pro has 4k resolution per each eye, so does Quest 3. Why are we limited to 1080pX60 and don’t even have 4kX30? Is it going to be one of those features that nobody uses on iPhone for several years because people don’t have Vision Pro and because nobody wants to watch 3D in 1080P on a huge virtual display?
We love you Tyler, huge fan of your channel, i been following you since last years iphone pro 15, watching all the way from UK, i was waiting for your review on this, we love you

Great review. You've done a better job of explaining the new phone features (and their benefits) than Apple did in the showcase. You're someone who it seems to actually uses the phone, as opposed to the other tech reviewers such as MKHD (as brilliant as he is in his area), who it seems to me are basically driven by the need for new features to satisfy the techie fanbase, rather than having expertise in a specific user area.
In terms of lens distortion (making things look bulbous), is the 2x (48mm) really optically 2x? Or would it have the same distortion as just using the 1x, and then cropping afterwards?
I can’t understand from where we know that can shoot 4k 120 in LOG. There is no official source - as i have searched so far - to say that can shoot 4k 120 LOG. In otherwise apple said that can shoot 4k 120 dolby vision aka the normal video format in iPhone. So im curious where you have read that it can in log. I wish to be proved wrong 🤩 because 4k 120 can shoot also the s24 ultra so its nice to have something better than them.
picked up my 16 pro on launch day. having an issue with changing my aperture in the new camera control feature. every time I change the aperture either wider or smaller other than the aperture apple automatically assigned it my camera app crashes. was on the phone with apple senior advisor for over an hour and it's being escalated to engineering with a screen recording of the issue. not on a beta. anyone else experiencing this? hardware diagnostics test indicated no hardware issues.
Thank you for this! I will never be a pro photographer/videographer but iPhones are the best option for the general population users to dabble in this kind of work. When they upgrade the cameras enough to help be take better shots, I know it's time to upgrade. Oh, and that action button was something I have asked for from the beginning! Thanks again.
Realy nice review. You have not mentioned anything about the telephoto sensor remaining to 12MP... in 2024. That's a bit of a bummer for me, since when you do a portrait mode you kinda go 3x or something... And the front camera again... 12MP?... when can we take qualitative selfies with our friends? Those are my dissapointments in iPhone 16 launch.
Hear you on the 3x. I was really hoping for it to return. it's why I didn't buy last year (have 13 pro) but I might just have to learn to live without it for a while.
Ultra Wide 48MP and that dedicated camera button makes me happy. I shoot a lot of landscapes and these are major benefits. Especially when I don’t have my main camera on me and don’t want to miss a shot.
The primary reasons you see these enormously large terabytes for devices such as iPhone and Macs are the file sizes from tech getting better as it has since birth, and now a terabyte is minimal 🎉
Great video. Unfortunately, as someone with a 2020 5K intel iMac and an iPhone 14 Pro, the cost of entry into Apple's intelligence ecosystem would be expensive.
4K at 120 FPS FINALLY! I don't understand people who still film in 30, 60 is barely acceptable. We should finally start seeing smoother videos on the internet in the future. Video games have had high frame rates for a long time now, it’s about time our videos got an upgrade. It's unacceptable in 2024 to be filming at 30 or 60 frames per second. When the frame rate is too low, it hurts the eyes and lacks fluidity, it's not pleasant to watch. 4K 120 FPS was the real info of the keynote

Much appriciated. Best content about new products.
Chat I have an iPhone 12 is this upgrade worth it ? Or do I keep the 12 for another couple years
PAUSE VIDEO RECORDING??? NO ONE MENTIONED THIS! Thank you!
Please do a video on the best camera settings for the new iPhone, there are new files sizes as well as the photographic styles seem to only work with heif file formats
Didn't Casteify steal their designs from a RUclipsr? Why do business with them?
3x and 5x are not focal lengths. I had to leave your video to go look up phone specs to get the actual focal lengths that a photographer would use.
what do you think about Tony Northrups video? 48 MP ? 12 MP?
Tony a good guy but I completely disagree with a lot of his takes
Can that braided cable withstand Velcro?
17:35 negatives of iphones start here after video pause point
We love you Tyler, huge fan of your channel, i been following you since last years iphone pro 15, watching all the way from UK, i was waiting for your review on this, we love you
When are the new Lightroom presets coming out? 🙏
5x only 12 MP is disappointing!!!
that's for iPhone 17 or 18😂😅 48mp telephoto
Hold up, their 5x is only 12MP? Wow.
Its a shame to make ads for company like Casetify that is stealing other peoples ideas. Didnt you hear about casetify stealing the design made by JerryRigEverything and Dbrand?? Will not watch any of you videos anymore.
12 pro max user here. Should I upgrade or wait another year?
The video I was waiting for! Always love your perspective.
Are there any 3x telephoto lenses you would use with your iPhone? I see company’s like moment have 2x.
The comments are on point with case ❤
What are each of the three lenses on the Pro Max called?
It would have been more revolutionary if there was a way to add an SD card on the phone.
There is, USBC
sd card? okay grandpa
I watched the weeknd video shot with the new iPhone but it looked really bad on my oled. Also they uploaded in 1080p. Not impressed. Can't compare with an actual cinema camera. Great video.
literally no reason for ProRAW to not be in the base models, its just software
Dawg you’re so delusional??? *PRO* RAW.
It’s not called, *RAW format for the low end models*
The reason is money. You didn’t pay enough for it. It is not unreasonable to charge for software features
@@NotGarrettG it's an artificial boundary between the models, it's literally just software
@@frappes_ just because you define it doesn’t negate its purpose. It’s supposed to be FOR THE PRO MODELS…. How dense are you??
@@NotGarrettG Why software limit a feature that has no reason to be limited?? Crazy how you'll call someone dense while acting like a brick yourself.
The iPhone has a shutter button before this official shutter button….. if you an iPhone 11 to 15 you can use the volume down button as a shutter
This was a very informative video. The knowledge this man has on pro-cameras is remarkable. That's why I subscribed.
So the photographic styles are only available on the 16?
Bose QC in ear bugs beat airpods pro on the airplane noise test though the previous Bose with the neckband had better software. The current bose sw is a a mess though they are fixing issues quickly.
Is main camera sensor updated IMX 803 or new IMX903?
Not sure how the regular 16 has macro mode, considering it doesn’t have a macro lens? I guess I’ll google it. The new Pro looks good for photography, amazing how far they’ve come in ten years.
Loved the video, hated Casetify.
Loved the video. Saw casetify. Turn off the video. Goodbye to the channel

Where’s the lie?
Great review. You've done a better job of explaining the new phone features (and their benefits) than Apple did in the showcase. You're someone who it seems to actually uses the phone, as opposed to the other tech reviewers such as MKHD (as brilliant as he is in his area), who it seems to me are basically driven by the need for new features to satisfy the techie fanbase, rather than having expertise in a specific user area.
Why Casetify? Did we forget the dbrand lawsuit already? Tyler, you need better sponsors.
I guess its good money that lets people to forget everything
In terms of lens distortion (making things look bulbous), is the 2x (48mm) really optically 2x? Or would it have the same distortion as just using the 1x, and then cropping afterwards?
Please dont support Casetify, horrible company
They steal from Jerry right everything
I don’t use the ultra wide lens the telephoto lens is more useful. I’m waiting for the large sensor for the telephoto camera.
This was easier to watch than the actual keynote. Thanks, Tyler!
picked up my 16 pro on launch day. having an issue with changing my aperture in the new camera control feature. every time I change the aperture either wider or smaller other than the aperture apple automatically assigned it my camera app crashes. was on the phone with apple senior advisor for over an hour and it's being escalated to engineering with a screen recording of the issue. not on a beta. anyone else experiencing this? hardware diagnostics test indicated no hardware issues.
Not actually a review, not even preview.
16 pro doesn't have 3x lens?
Just 5x now
please explain me why 3x is better than 5x?
A thief sponsor
I can’t believe he used them with a straight face.
Hear you on the 3x. I was really hoping for it to return. it's why I didn't buy last year (have 13 pro) but I might just have to learn to live without it for a while.
just FYI for people: Airpods 4 will have wireless charging and Find My in their Active Noise Cancellation version. Extra $50 charge for those features
what sense you use for filming yourself?
Ultra Wide 48MP and that dedicated camera button makes me happy. I shoot a lot of landscapes and these are major benefits. Especially when I don’t have my main camera on me and don’t want to miss a shot.
Have you watched the Tony and Chelsea video about the iphone 16 cameras? I guess they have a point.
Storage - can’t you just use Blackmagic camera app to use different codecs? Also, offload log videos to an l external drive ?
I look forward to the day when all the lenses look the same quality wise
I was so hype to get the new phone for tech reviews and to review the phone itself………… that’s the whole story
Have you tried the Linux s9’s puts aka presets.
Yes, I’ve made LUTs for the S9 that I like but the built in ones are as bad as everything else
@@stalman interesting, all the reviews I’ve been seeing have been saying that they are on par with Fuji’s recipes.
