@@stalman yeah .. a game changer in my mind. ! thank you for making videos like this, someone that truly understands photography, not like most "tech reviewers" summarizing the checklist of new features.
Thank you for being the first one to make an actual in depth camera review. Such a breath of fresh air in comparison to all the "iPhone 16 Pro vs. X phone camera comparison" videos where they do nothing but compare processed images from the main camera app and completely forget that you can actually do more with your camera than point and shoot.
It's gotten to the point where as long as shallow depth of field isn't needed and you're not in a seriously problematic low light situation, iPhones are fine professionally. Remember there was a time when it was "professional video shooters don't use DSLRs" or, "professional photographers don't use mirrorless cameras." The nay-sayers say nay while competitors pick up more clients who appreciate speed, efficiency, and portability.
Yea, only difference is clients couldn’t really tell when people switched to DSLRs, to them it was still a professional looking camera. And same with mirrorless. With an iPhone, clients are way less often willing to pay a premium when they themselves essentially own the same device. Maybe eventually it will get normalized, but it will take longer than DSLRs or mirrorless cameras.
Idk..my 16 pro max looks pretty terrible at even 3x zoom. Sensor doesn’t pick up details. Although I strictly use ProRes log 4K with external SSD, can’t speak for the other modes but if anything they shouldn’t be better in details
@@Siduch. Only an issue if you're shooting in front of the clients and even then, not all care. Many clients do realize they're paying for skills not hardware.
You are actually the first person to show a more practical use of Studio mix mode vs. cinematic being good for on the street. Also the mentioning the quality of the 120fps footage! That’s a huge reason why I rarely use it on my phone, yea it’s slowed down but it looks pretty bad! So great upgrade
I used to shoot with an iPhone and I switched to a Sony Alpha for my Videos just because of the overall quality+lens options but the first video camera I always recommend everyone is the iPhone, there’s a lot you can always do with the iPhone Footage+the flexibility of it being with you everywhere and it being tiny I still occasionally shoot with my phone
You, sir, showed me the potential of the ip16pro camera better than most of those that compare it to the pixel and galaxy phones. Your channel deserves to step into the million subs club! Thanks for the quality content!

soooo weird seeing square one mall in the background of your videos (mississauga local) and places that I walk on the regular. Your shots and colour grading make it look so much better xD
I was waiting for this. One thing I’ve noticed about all the camera control portions of reviews is that while you can move the camera control menu with a finger on the screen instead of the button itself, no one seems to know that. Often, that’s a lot better. I don’t know why no one has realized that. I use my thumb for that. It takes a little getting used to, as does everything of value, but it’s worth trying.
Best review I’ve seen so far. You made some compelling arguments for the 16 Pro, compelling enough to finally make me switch from my trusty 13 Pro. Just need to decide on the colour now.
@@Siduch. I agree but for me I typically look for at least 3 reasons to upgrade. USB-C and Battery Life were the two main ones before I got sold on the camera upgrades on 16 Pro.
Thank god Tyler is doing these videos. He's in the minority of producing actually valuable insights into cameras and photography. Much appreciated - bravo 👏🏻
Yes, I do not understand why it is not mentioned in most reviews. They always say it’s great and showcase a highly processed sound that does not sound great at all. I love the idea, I want this, but why do we just pretend it gives out good audio quality when it clearly does not.
omg thanks for this comment lol i also think all sound horrible, and i was really excited for this feature till i see it in real world. IT IS TERRIBLE.
I appreciate you highlighting the strengths of studio mode. I’ve seen several reviewers just take the phone into terrible audio conditions and show how studio sounds and… of course that sounds awful. Studio is meant just like you said to make an average environment sound a little more professional, like a podcast.
It's incredible that you are doing so many jobs with the iPhone. I live in a small town and if I show up on a job with my iPhone, they would turn me away!
Thanks for the suggestion on tweaking the tone values to a "sweet-spot". However, I feel certain photos go well when they are lower in contrast and certain would do better if they are higher in those contrast levels. It all boils down to the subject, environment and the detail your are trying to capture. Nonetheless, I'm very very glad that Apple decided to give these options/controls to its users and not make it into a cookie cutting process of a photo.
The audio mix feature seems like a gimmick. I’ve watched one review where I thought “wow” but every other demo has sounded like cheap EQ, this one included.
Bro, the comparison with the leica shocked me, the difference between the normal vs dng files is what I've expected from a phone camera for years, my 14 plus may be replaced by now, as everyone said, we always wait for your reviews to make the decision
Thank god someone said everything about the button placement I have wanted to but haven't done yet. ONE Focus Group woulda solved this and if there is a mechanical reason it cannot be further down then don't put the button on the phone imo. Great phone overall, the button is a shame. ISO, EXPOSURE, and WHITE BALANCE as the three ONLY functions it pulls up, woulda been perfect!
I'm happy with my upgrade this year. I went from an XS Max to a 16 Pro. Now that the phone has log and can use it with my X-T3 😀. Looking forward to more iPhone content Tyler!
The Camera Control button is in a good place for my hand; I hold my phone with the bottom edge firmly in the crook of my thumb/index finger and my index finger naturally fits on the button
Good review and video, but slow down when ‘pushing around’. I was getting dizzy trying to see the difference between the formats you were showing. Ended up freeze framing. Nice one though 👍
Not a single word on how or why they locked the new Tones feature to the iPhone 16 and didn‘t make it available to people who paid 1000+ bucks just a year or two ago?!
I have slowly come to prefer you and Flossy Carter over all other reviews. You cover intricacies and details of video and photo capture the best and he covers average usage the best. Thanks for the video. 👍🏻
Totally agree about Camera Control. Half an inch over would have been perfect, and at this point it’s best served as a dedicated camera launcher/shutter button.
This is so useful. Thanks for tips on how to get more “real camera” looking photos. The over processing and sharpening can be annoying on all camera phones. I’m hoping to get the new iPhone SE when it comes out and am hoping it has some of these features
Awesome video, quick question, what are the best photo settings for someone not doing post production? I just want to shoot for fun and have the best image quality straight out of the phone. HEIF, JPEG, etc. Thanks!
I have been holding off on a true high end phone for a while for budget reasons, but now that I'm doing more video work I think it's inevitable I'll be getting an iphone. I think this review does a much better job than most on explaining how to get the most out of it beyond the default settings and tone features, and with that much flexibility I think the pro max is pretty much my best option. Thanks! :)
I got the 16 pro in natural titanium 1tb. I filmed an unboxing and first impressions on my channel. So far this phone has been comfortable in my hands and the camera quality.... amazing!!!!
Welcome to Toronto! Appreciate the detailed look. I'm still really loving my 13 Pro Max, but I already feel like there's a nice accumulation of camera upgrades waiting for me whenever I do choose to upgrade in the future. I had no idea what JPEG-XL was about - I'll definitely need to transition to that when I can. As for "pros don't use iPhones"... lol. I definitely used photos out of my 13 Pro Max for real estate photography. Not exclusively, but sometimes it really came in handy and had just the right focal length or could really grab some extra dynamic range relative to what my a7iii could pull off. ProRaw is seriously good. Now that I'm back in hobbyist mode, the Pro iPhones are just spot on if you're the kind of person who enjoys photography and enjoys editing your photos.

11:16 i actually disagree on then”people, don’t shoot 120fps to view it that way.” Since iOS 17 I recently picked up shooting in slow Mo 120 frames per second and then removing the slow Mo element because it looks so much smoother on the promotion displays. Now that you can shoot in 4K 120 FPS, I haven’t even been slowing down the video. It just looks so nice and buttery smooth on promotion displays.
