I think the stupidest part is that they don't even have full movesets... like seriously, their pokemon are weaker than some of the pokemon you can find in the wild.
Kind of weird how X and Y, the game that introduced mega evolutions, has you fight so few mega evolutions (4 if you include your rival’s Mega Absol). But in ORAS, you fight 6 (10 if you include the elite four rematch).
I really think that they should have made korrina the 4th or 5th gym leader, and then after her all the gym leaders have megas, it would make the game harder and advertise megas
Here’s who I think in X&Y should have a mega: Korrina Clement Viealre Olympia Lysndare Sycamore (I thought when I first played X&Y) Tevor Welfare Serena/Chelam All the Pokémon League

I feel bad for Lysander, he was epic in the anime but in the games, he was *significantly* worse. They even took away his shiny garydos for a regular one
The shiny Gyarados isn't really interesting. It's too common and the colour doesn't suit Gyarados. Lysandre was alright in the anime, but Team Flare was pretty good. Lysandre just seems to be the typical "I'll destroy the world!"-villain, while otherwise being a pretty smart and reasonable person.
Yeah, can we mention how the Gen 2 gym leaders really avoided using Gen 2 Pokémon? Why doesn’t Chuck have a Hitmontop? Or Morty a Misdreavus? Or Falkner a Hoothoot? Or Bugsy a Ledian?
@Thomas Irwin Yeah... there's a double problem with that. First is that, yes, you get a Machop...ONE Machop. By an In-game Trade. And unlike the In-game trades of later gens, the level of the pokemon you get is the same as the level of the pokemon you give. In Gold and Silver this is moderately bad because Whitney's two pokemon are a Level 18 (Clefairy) and 20 (guess who), while the highest level you can get the pokemon to trade it for (Drowsee) is level 14 (wild in Route 35)... but in Crystal you get screwed up, because the pokemon you have to trade Machop for is ABRA, which you can get at most in the wild at level 10 (same route), but capturing one is a chore because Abra only learns Teleport. You can get one in the Game Corner by only 100 coins... but in a cruel twist of nature, instead of being at level 10 as it was in Gold and Silver, it's at LEVEL 5 in Crystal. And given you can't actually train an Abra except by Exp. Share (and SURPRISE, you don't get Exp. Share in GSC until you go for the Red Gyarados and get a Red Scale, and that's only possible around the 7th gym), you get a Machop at only level 10... and that leads to the second trouble, more heavily in Crystal, but still hard on both. Second Trouble: The Machop you get... well, it has a lot to handle. First and foremost, Machop is not resistant to the Normal attacks that may be thrown at it (besides Rollout, Whitney's Miltank knows Stomp and the previous pokemon, Clefairy, knows Double Slap, the former can cause flinch and the latter is a 2-5 striker attack). And while it may defeat Clefairy... it still has the trouble of facing Miltank and... well, Miltank is WAY stronger than Machop. Machop's Attack is 80, the same as Miltank... but that's its BEST stat, and the other stats are all WORSE than the same stats in Miltank. For example, Miltank's best stat is 105 Defense followed by 100 Speed. Machop's stats in those areas are 50 and THE ABISMAL 35 respectively. So, without STAB and type advantages playing, Machop will hit the same, but will be hit first and will be handle the punch taken worst. Also Machop loses in HP with 70 against 95. And the worst thing is... yeah, the STAB and Type advantage it gets in Gen II is HORRID. It only gets Karate Chop (50 power, 100% accuracy, high chance of being critical) and Low Kick (50 power, 90% accuracy, 30% flinching... before you ask, in Gen III it was changed to weight variant power and 100% with no secondary effect). And it's worse in Crystal, because it doesn't get Karate Chop until Level 13, meaning you get it at least 3 levels before it can learn Karate Chop. Sure, it's not that hard, but you'll have to grind prior to get to Whitney. And to top it off, Stomp is 65 power, has 100% accuracy and can cause flinch... and it's a STAB move on Miltank, meaning that, numerically, Stomp will cause more damage on Machop than anny of Machop's attacks will cause on Miltank. Sure, Machop can resist Rollout, but it better be tough enough to handle that, as the starting power of that attack is already 30 and it doubles each turn (30-60-120-240-480). So... yeah, if Machop doesn't knock Miltank out fast, it will be flattened like a pancake. And yes, those are the only chances, as the TMs for other fighting moves that hit can use (specifically, Dinamic Punch, the strongest Fighting move it can learn) are AFTER beating Whitney (the TM01 for Dinamic Punch comes after defeating Chuck). The only advantages Machop get, actually, are the type and GENDER. Miltank knows Attract, but the Machop you get is female (all Miltanks are Female, of course), so it will still be able to attack (forget your starter enters the action as all starters have a 7 to 1 ratio of male over female, so it's heavily likely your starter is a male). And yes, the type makes Machop resistant to Rollout and also the STAB moves are super effective, but it's still not like it makes it an immediate win. Fun Fact: In HGSS, the trade is the same as in GS (For a Drowsee in Goldenrod, max level being 14) and Machop is better here as now Low Kick is the current version, meaning its power against Miltank is 80 and the accuracy is 100. It's still the same in the rest (and given it's like GS, it still knows Karate Chop) but the change to Low Kick makes a difference. I would say the HGSS battle with Whitney is the easiest of all three battles, and the Crystal one is likely to hurt the most.
@@nerdymidwesterner3662 really? I mean, I think gens 1 and 4 are up to debate but gen 5? The games with the best story vs the series with the absolute worst one? Damn.
I remember playing these games for the first time and expecting Korrina to use her Mega Lucario in the gym :O Probably a good thing that she doesn't, but it still bothers me.
I think Gen 6 remakes and/or sequels could be potentially really good, seeing as how the originals bombed hard. It could fix a lot of problems, add some cool new dialogue and story, maybe even have a delta episode for Zygarde (of course not recycle the Delta Episode storyline). Hell, maybe they could even expand on Mega Evolution!
And even give the major trainers perfectly competitive teams like they do in BDSP, by not just giving them Megas but also competitive tier builds with movesets, abilities, held items, natures, and max EVs/IVs
@@thelagnificentleader To be fair, the originals didn't really bombed, they're like top 6 best selling pokemon games, they even sold more than Sun and Moon
In my opinion Clermont should have a Luxray cause: 1. He has one in the anime 2. It could be his boss/main pokemon since the other mons are a bit lack luster
Luxray isn’t in the Kalos Pokédex. It only becomes available in the Friend Safari after youvlear the game and ergo have access to the National ‘Dex. ... ALSO SIEBOLD SHOULD HAVE A MEGA SLOWBRO!
Pokemon in general just needs to balance the main story - Sword and Shield had this exact same issue. If I challenge a Gym Leader I don't wanna win with one Pokemon, I wanna scrape my way through just barely.
What I did to make SwSh more interesting is always make "official" battles "fair." I aimed to use only the same amount of Pokemon as them, and I did the battle on Set style (I didn't have my game set to it bc it made random trainer battles more convenient; I just chose not to switch when it asked). Some of them were still sweeps, but it did make a few of them more interesting.
if you have the type advantage, you really can do the one pokemon sweep in every game unless you dont have any good pokemon avaliable which is bad game design. They really should do the gyms based around themes instead of typings
@@MandJTV Did that as well back in gen 5, which meant I only ever used three mons for most of the leaders. If those three fainted, I would reset lol. Made things more interesting and fun though so yay!
@@MandJTV that's a good way of doing it - I quite liked the idea of gyms being limited to a certain number of Pokemon and felt they should have just implemented that for trainers across the board. It adds a nice little strategic step where your choice would likely have pros and cons that sometimes cannot be prepped for. It could get annoying & likely needs some incentive to do so but it was fun for the gym leaders. I just think in SwSh in particular, all trainers could have received a 10% buff in levels and it would have been fine. The Wild Area already threw ridiculously strong pokemon at you sometimes - likely causing most players to want to over train so they could beat a few.
I find it frustrating how NOBODY has megas in this gen. Gen 7 and 8 kinda nailed this for more use of rad z moves. It's probably because of how megas don't scale like z moves and dmax did, but even then you were given mega stones pretty early on
I was a little kid when i played pokemon X, and i thought release meant my pokemon could follow beside me as best buds....yeah, i lost a tyrunt and Xerneas to that misconception and was pretty depressed for a while
This makes me sad because Kalos is the region I started with, therefore I feel nostalgic over it. I really wish they would come out with Pokemon Z over anything else besides new generations as Kalos is the only region to not have anything outside it's main games
So if there was Z version with Korrina as Champion and Diantha as a postgame boss(with a rematch where she replaces Hawlucha with Pangoro and Tyrantrum with Arcanine), how tough would they be?
@@Heheheha-sh5zh Not in the exact way, but I’m still in love already. I mostly wanted a remake of x and y to make the games better like Platinum and Emerald did, or something that expanded on the story either in the future or the past like BW2 and LA respectively. I hope we see more of AZ and his story as well as the origins of Mega Evolution
Imo , from clemont and onwards every gym leader needs to have a mega evolution. For example give clemont a mega manectric And valerie needs a 4th pokemon , she should have a sylveon, a florges an a slurpuff and a mega mawile Olympia needs to be a double battle , open up with meowsic female and prankster male meowstic and the second duo is slowking and mega alakazam Wulfric needs 2 extra pokemon imo , a wevile with aerial ace , a mamoswine , his cryogognal replaced with lapras with psychic and his ace should be a mega abomasnow
That could be the hard mode! If the games got remade with different difficulties, the original would be easy difficulty, Mikey's proposal would be medium and yours would be hard.
Honestly without the anime I would forget this entire generation. Korrina was the only trainer who offered any sort of challenge, and even then only because flying press caught me off guard and it took me awhile to figure out the game wasnt buggy, and it was actually supposed to be super effective against both my snorlax and my freshly evolved machoke.
I know I’m late to the party, but Unova having four mons for their E4 I feel is more justified in BW as there isn’t a presence of mega evolution and no mons outside the unova dex. I also give credit to the post game teams they have which they at least gave them with more than 4 mons.
If we see the pattern then the I think it will happen like this Sinnoh remakes Let's go johto or gen 9 Gen 9 2.0 or a dlc Unova remakes If let's go johto will happen then let's go hoenn will be next Gen 10 Gen 10 2.0 or a dlc Then kalos remakes you are right we will wait soooo long for the kalos remakes
Natural Harmonia Gropius Let's pretend that this is a remake of XY on the Nintendo Switch and in this newer version, the Shinx line is available in the wild
anyone else see a counter to korrina's entire team? ....no? well in the route at the top of the mountain before grant you cant get a pokemon called drifloon, so literally just use drifloon on mienfoo and hawlucha and you will not take damage at all, as for the machoke id recommend sending your starter into it, drifloon makes the korrina gym battle the easiest battle in the entire game

A problem that I had with the gen 6 and 7 games, and this was nitpicky, was that the sprites felt very desaturated. The visuals of the 3d models, trainers, and pokemon look amazing, but the color felt very desaturated visually. In all the games prior to gen 6, all the sprites felt vibrant and colorful, giving off more of an exotic vibe. In gen 6 though, a lot of colors were taken out. What used to be a very dark and saturated yellow and red on Pikachu, is now taken out and feels lackluster. even the black on its tail looked more greyish. I'm glad that this was fixed in gen 8 because now with a bigger budget, they visually look more interesting and distinct
The desaturation also ruined a couple shinies. Shiny Gengar isn't the best shiny, but at least it used to be noticeable because regular Gengar used to be a significantly more vibrant purple before the jump to 3D. At least they made the mega's shiny an awesome white.

The fact that Korrina took me one try to beat on every one of my playthroughs. The fact that Grant took me hundreds of tries to beat on one play through Edit: I played pokemon Y again and beat grant on the first try.
@@curiouscreator8806 it took me way more than that no matter what I did it seems like rock types are just not my thing because i also struggled with Olivia in Sun and Moon
I've played through Y half a dozen or so times. I still hardly remember it. And the big reason I've replayed it? To use the other starters, as well as simply other teams. I would consider that being the biggest issue, it just doesn't feel memorable to me. But, fixing the difficulty would probably end up fixing the issue of being forgettable. Edit: A few things regarding the gym leaders. Give them all megas for the ones including and after Korrina, since that is when you can mega. On top of megas, give them berries, too. I know I've noticed this before during playthroughs, but it really is remarkable how bad the teams are designed in this game, not even just for the gym leaders.
Are you referring to X and Y specifically or Pokemon games in general? Because if it's the latter, it's not just your childhood naivety. I recently played through Fire Red after being fed up with Shield's easiness and there were numerous times where I got absolutely destroyed and needed to step back and level up. The rival fight and Misty in Cerulean City, the Silph Co. Rival Fight, and the Elite 4 all fucked me up and made me need to grind a bit, which I actually like in small doses as it makes it much more rewarding when you win. If they want to remove grinding they need to add difficulty elsewhere. There's no reason that double battles against teams that use actual, strategic doubles tactics should be nonexistent in the games. XD and Colosseum already proved that you can have games that use double battles exclusively and there are ***far*** more opportunities for cool and challenging strategies with them.
Sword and Sheild are even easier... exp candy can get you a fully evolved starter before the first gym.. I liked the grind it made getting mons like Tyranitar extremely rewarding to get because you put in the time.
@@fusedbrololy8672 Well then even Exp. Share is just an option. But the thing is that the Gym Leaders and Elite 4 in X/Y are themselves too easy, and hence the Exp. Share doesn't make any difference.
@@soulflaya2271 exp Is shared for all pokemons And you gain exp from catch as Always (also from Den and Candy exp). and Gamefreak IS STILL NOT ABLE TO BALANCE THE EXP SHARE properly that's the problem. If someone Tells you the problem Is you can't give the exp share ... They are stupid dumb dumb
@@soulflaya2271 Well for one EXP Share is still OP. You don't need to grind much at all. They also added more ways to gain EXP, which is just unnecessary. You can get EXP candies and occassionally rare candies from Dynamax battles, and you get EXP when you camp with your pokemon as well. Now as bad as all of the above are, they don't actually matter much since you can just decide not to camp or do gigamax battles, as they aren't required. You also don't have to feed your pokemon the EXP candies you get from dynamax battles. The BIG issue is that they turned EXP share into an in-game mechanic when it was an item before. You could turn the item EXP share off in previous games if you wanted to challenge yourself (or in games where it was a held item, not have anyone hold it), but as an in-game mechanic it cannot be turned off. This pretty much forces you to play the game in easy mode unless you either impose a huge challenge on yourself, hack the game, or actively avoid playing the game. Battle too much? Over-leveled. Camp? Over-leveled. Catch pokemon (because that gives EXP and the EXP share works with it)? Over-leveled. Now the cherry on top of all of this is that they turned the freaking SOUND SETTINGS into an item that you don't have immediately. Heck, it even comes from an NPC that you have to talk to, rather than from someone that approaches you. If you don't know about this and don't talk with them, you go through the whole game without sound settings. If some guy in Pokemon Platinum will actively walk up to me and talk to me to give me a fashion case then an item this important should have that too (or just, y'know, be in the settings). So why is something as important as the sound settings locked behind an item that the game doesn't give to you, but the EXP share is forced upon you from battle 1 onwards?
Heads up for Drasna with what we now know: she has a Mega Altaria in the anime, so that settles it. Besides, Ampharos isn't even a Dragon type if it doesn't Mega Evolve, so maybe he'd be a better option for Clemont (whose dad has an Ampharos in the anime; just saying) Instead she should be given a different Pokémon, and I think that Goodra is the best option. Two Gen VI Dragon types found in the Kalos dex are Goodra and Tyrantrum. Since Tyrunt is already taken, she could have the former. It's a formidable pure Dragon type with some nice abilities (Sap Sipper, Hydration with Rain Dance and Gooey? Its options are dazzling!), and while its movepool isn't huge, it's nothing to sneeze at, either. If you're concerned about looks, I'd say its horns/ears/whatever suit her.
17:55 makes me wonder if Ash in Journeys will go back to the different regions to duel the Elite Four members he hasn’t yet fought in the anime, meaning Drasna would finally show off which Mega she’d use.
I swept her with a Hawlucha actually during my Nuzlocke of Y. It was speedy enough to not be damaged much (if at all) by her Machoke if memory serves right.

Part of me wishes that Korrina actually had been the final gym leader, and that’s when you would receive the Mega Lucario from her, because not only could she have a decently strong team, but it would make much more sense to receive the Lucario at that point in the game, rather than having super easy mega evolution from the 3rd gym onwards. Might just be me, but I definitely think just swapping the order of some of these gym leaders would have made the games quite a bit more challenging. X and Y are definitely still my favorite games in the series, though.
after defeating Korrina, which was child's play all of my party is mid 40's, fully evolved and I just wish this game was even slightly challenging.... is there a battle tower in this game? please i really hope so...
I think Korrina should’ve been the champion. You see her around more than the actual champion, and she has interesting lore with mega evolution, plus she could still give you the mega lucario around the final gym.
Imagine if we had another stint where the games were as good as emerald to bw2 Also as a 9 year old I beat y in 13 hours but spent 200+ hours on platinum, heart gold, and black 2
Bonnie doesn’t own the Dedenne, it’s still under Clemont’s Trainership. Bonnie just takes care of it, and it’s been explicitly stated that she’ll start training it when she turns ten.

The most baffling thing about Korrina’s movesets is that Rock Tomb, the only move that can hit ghosts, is ineffective against both ghosts available up to that point: Honedge and Golett.
I remember playing X when it came out, after finishing it I started on completing a living dex and was able to level-up and evolve 4 pokemon at a time going through the "elite 4" with a lv80 Greninja and Hydreigon with ease.
I recently traded a pokemon and got a Rayquaza lv 90. With the good attacks (a fire, electric, water and a dragon attack), you can do the elite 4 and the master easly while leveling up 5 pokemon. :O
to be fair: Kalos was right after Unova and Unova-Ash SUCKED! That makes it even more surprising how good the XY/XYZ-anime ended up being. It's easily my favourite anime-region.
If the first gym leader starts spamming Sticky web, Ice beam, solerbeam, signal beam I don’t think it would be easy and you have to battle in a floor coverd in ice! This is the first gym so I don’t blame Ash for loosing.

I agree. It would only be hard until you you get all of yours evolved. It would be good to have a hard part at a certain point of the game. I would rather have a game harder than easy
Unfortunately all games after X&Y have been pathetic in difficulty and looking at Sword and Shield it's just getting worse. I love how in the gen 1-3 and even 4 to some extent kids couldn't really look up information online that well, the games were alot harder. Now that internet is full of information, guides and walkthroughs the games are so easy and handholding that even a monkey could beat them... Let alone a veteran gamer. I'm probably not gonna buy another main series game (skipped SwSh too) until they put effort in making the gameplay more challenging. Is it really so hard for them to add a feature pretty much every modern game has nowadays aka the difficulty settings? Heck, it's been a default feature in most video games for decades already. All I'm asking for is a somewhat challenging game with decent story and a region rich with exploration. So essentially what 4th and 5th gen games were. Seeing how Sword and Shield has none of these things present it really makes me disappointed with the main series games and Gamefreak in general.
I think the biggest part is that the elite 4 and the last gym leader DOES have Megas in the anime but somehow they didn’t think to do the same for the games. Granted the games came way before the anime so I could let that slide, but if the anime department agrees that it’s ridiculous that these people at this point don’t have Mega’s, than yeah that was probably an issue.

When I first played Pokémon Y, it took me like a month to beat the elite 4. You want to know why? All of my Pokémon were under leveled (and it was my first time ever playing Pokémon so I didn’t know what a balanced team was.)
X and Y is probably still my favourite game, I played it when I was 5+ or so, first Pokémon game so it always had a place in my heart. Reason I didn’t play black and white first per say is because I always found it hard to concentrate with pixel games at such a young age, it was just hard to follow and I always got lost. I never got lost in x and y but I did sometimes get stuck which made it overall more rewarding. As we know xy was rather easy but still at 5 with a terrible move set I still found it challenging at times as I’ve mentioned so it still gave me a sense of reward whenever I won a battle instead of always winning and never being satisfied. And also the fact that it was the first 3D Pokémon game. So yeah! :D
this ! pokemon x was my first as well ,which i played when i was around 8-9 . surprisingly i did struggle during it and it still holds a special place in my heart
My first game was also pokemon x when i was around 8 or 9. However, I got lost trying to find the furfrou in parfum palace and ended up with level 90 pokemon before the second gym, which I never made it to.
grant was AWFUL for me not even because of the difficulty, but because i had a friend trade me a leafeon for my playthrough of x but by the time i reached grant it was too overleveled to obey. i just barely made it through first try with a disobedient leafeon (and of course, i had chosen fennekin as my starter lol)
14:00 there's actually optional super boss, against Serena where she uses a Mega Absol. Although that doesn't really affect you're point but I just thought I'd like to say it.
@javi 2 hu it’s not even that fast until it mega evolves, which normally wouldn’t be a problem, but in gen 6 mega pokemon keep the speed stat of their normal form until the turn after they mega evolve. So the most likely thing that will happen is Absol will come in, you send in a fighting or Fairy type (probably the free Mega Lucario they give you) then breathe on it because even as a mega it has like 60 defense and special defense. The only chance it has is if you play on set but even then anything that’s not “not very effective” will kill it. They really hated giving trainers good megas in X&Y
I feel like another issue is that strong Pokémon are too easily available. You will most likely encounter Bagon, Gible, Goomy, Honedge and more without even looking for them. I really like how big the Kalos pokedex was, but the encounter rates of these types of Pokémon really should have been lower, or they should be encountered in optional areas or areas available later on.
Yea, except Honedge. You gotta go kinda out of your way to find that one. Other ones... yea they feel like finding the baby version of ultimate power & getting chance to grow it up... which won`t be hard.
@@pkmntrainerred4247 Eh, Honedge is a 15% encounter on a mandatory route. While the grass isn’t mandatory, there are quite a few items and trainers out of the way on the route, so people will likely find it by just looking for other things.

the only thing that makes me think that the 4 pokemon think is not much of a problem for Unova E4 is the fact that the choice of pokemon & their movesets make the fights hard enough to negate the need for a 5th one.
@blasterboy1995 Crystal and Platinum are in the wrong order. It should be Pokemon G/S/Pt and D/P/C. Also, we never got Pokemon Ocean Blue as a remake of FR/LG.

When I played through X, I always thought Drasna was the most interesting one of the Elite Four. I just loved the thought of this cheerful older lady surrounded by all these dragons. That same picture and adding this cuddly Ampharos as an "honorary" dragon that she mega-evolves is probably going to be my new headcanon for her.
It’s quite sad that the region that introduces mega evolution, the ELITE FOUR DO NOT HAVE MEGAS. The four strongest trainers besides the champion can’t mega evolve their Pokémon 😂😂😂.
I love X&Y. It's probably my second favorite generation and really brought me back to the game. It even got me interested in the anime and amourshipping even when I was probably too old for it. But I admit that it was way too easy, it's not really pokemon without grinding. I didn't have to train at all the entire game and my pokemon were still a bit over leveled

I Love Battle Cats
EXACTLY! Only 4 of them use only 1 Gen 2 Pokémon each. It's honestly infuriating!
Rainpooper I thought of that too I was thinking that is stupid
@Thomas Irwin Give Whitney another... ARE YOU MAD???!!!

I can say that I enjoyed the era when Pokémon was more simple
Like back in Gen. 1-3
and the NDS in Gen. 4-5
if you have the type advantage, you really can do the one pokemon sweep in every game unless you dont have any good pokemon avaliable which is bad game design.

And you gain exp from catch as Always (also from Den and Candy exp).
and Gamefreak IS STILL NOT ABLE TO BALANCE THE EXP SHARE properly
that's the problem.
Besides, Ampharos isn't even a Dragon type if it doesn't Mega Evolve, so maybe he'd be a better option for Clemont (whose dad has an Ampharos in the anime; just saying)
Instead she should be given a different Pokémon, and I think that Goodra is the best option.

Unfortunately all games after X&Y have been pathetic in difficulty and looking at Sword and Shield it's just getting worse.

Bagon's encounter rate is 5% on half a route, it isn't that common.

That same picture and adding this cuddly Ampharos as an "honorary" dragon that she mega-evolves is probably going to be my new headcanon for her.
It’s quite sad that the region that introduces mega evolution, the ELITE FOUR DO NOT HAVE MEGAS. The four strongest trainers besides the champion can’t mega evolve their Pokémon 😂😂😂.
and my non-mega evolved lucario OHKOed champion's mega gardevoir w/metal claws -_-
RUclips's algorithm is on point today. Finally getting Z.
Here's hoping the difficulty in Legends Z-A is tougher than these.
Mikey's auto captions are very high.
*also mikey: never talks about changing the thumbnail which is in progress*
The experience share in X and Y screwed me over when I went back to platinum
