Guillaume Atlan is the guy behind it, Mani Hoffman is the singer and it samples a track called The Rock by East Coast. French artists were very in vogue in the late 90's and early 2000's with Air, Daft Punk, Cassius, Mirwais (who went on to work with Madonna) to name a few, in much the same way French disco had been popular 20 years before with acts like Cerrone, Sheila B. Devotion, Gibson Brothers and Patrick Hernandez. (In face one of Daft Punk was the son of Daniel Vangarde who had produced a lot of disco hits). Anyway, it's a cool track.
Love this ! Great club tune and big hit in the main charts in the UK. I guess it would be concidered a "Club Classic" by the current generation, but that is way too recent for me to call a Classic.
What a superb track. Released 2001 I think. Love the song. Great video by the way. Was part of that French House scene then , which included Daft Punk and Laurie t Garnier who did a brilliant track called I think Crispy Bacon. Still works over 20 years later
Oh Matt - what a pleasant surprise ! I have the original 12" mix that I discovered on the compilation Disco Kandi 5 - circa 2001. I played the hell out of it then and it is a regular recurrent to this day. I am so pleased Chafic gave you the opportunity to let it funk you up too. Cheers to you both.
Yeah, gotta love the Hed Kandi compilation CD’s - I have a few of the Disco Kandi and Winter Chill releases - and I’m sure this track is tucked away on one of them.
If you're looking for a similar type of funky upbeat song from the same era I recommend you Playgroup "Number one". And the motion capture on the clip is fantastic for a 20+ years video.
Please see the video clip with the potatoes....

Haha, it absolutely did "funk me up!" Great track, shout-out to Chafic for sure. Cheers for the comment, Joseph!

Which is the scene Daft Punk emerged from, presumably.
