It is very sad that people needed this concept explained. It isn't a race, it is a showcase to show the differences in speed between road cars, tin tops and F1 cars. Very very simple concept people, don't let it confuse you.
patto505 hmmm how does one show the differences of speed between things like cars.... what's that called again? This isn't a superior statement calling you a moron it's just demonstrating the definition of a word.
scook2003 Because they are going to start a race series between road cars, V8 supercars and F1's... That won't ever exist. So instead they gave us a speed comparison, to see how much faster an F1 is vs a high class touring car and a road car.
Top Gear UK did something similar a few years between Clarkson in a Ford road car, Colin McRae in a WRC Ford Focus, and Johnny Herbert in a V10 Stewart F1 car.
My overturned Honda civic with gigantic almost comedically large spoiler, and tilted wheels, with lowrider capabilities, and the lowest suspension you've ever seen (literally you can hit a pebble and this car will crash), will out speed anything on the track! My oversized exhaust that shoots blue flames, and Nos tank for turbo busting will always guarantee me victory. Let's not forget the painted headlights and the under glow neon you can't see because the suspension is so damn low, the fuzzy dice in the rearview mirror, interior neon and a bass boost so loud my windows start to shatter, it's the ultimate racing machine!😉
Kristian Von Koenigsegg, Matte Rimac and Elon Musk helped me tune my prius, now it can go in an amazing 0-100 in 2 years, never have seen before in a prius :D
Thank for your kind words. All I wrote was "aerodynamic force is high from much lower speeds like 130 to 160 kph" which was simply expressing the view that high down force was generated at much lower speeds than you asserted. Look at your response. Good on you and happy F1 spectating:)
Brian Tolliver they love to drive any car that is the best in it's class, doesn't mean it's a better race car. NASCAR drivers love to drive F1 cars also.
SL63 is what? 1850kg? haha, full luxury. the performance of the F1 and that " V8 Supercar " (or whatever the fuck) is awesome, hats off, but the SL63 steals the show. you can rip the road surface up, and have heated seats AND aircon on if your butt is freezing, but your hands are too warm :D amazing Mercedes!
I'm pretty sure the car has "massaging" seats too.. i think Top Gear did a episode on one of those cars lol... its insane on how the SL63 has so many features.
Yep. Well it broke the lap record by a lot but it was more like 20 seconds. But it wasn't even set up for Bathurst. It was geared for Melbourne so it was red-lining in 7th gear before it was even halfway down Conrod Straight. They reckon they could have knocked at least a handful more seconds off the lap time if set up purposefully. See the link I've now put in the video description here to go to some footage from that day :)
It's an Holden man, even my v3 potato could beat it... I agree with you about german cars, but the other guy is actually right about Japanese cars, they are VERY reliable and VERY well engineered.

I love f1 racing more than any other, but the majority of these f1 fans are so fucking arrogant. Lol it's not you driving that car out there, stop talking down to other people because they prefer another form of racing
but to answer your question - yes, we aussies get spanked with ads from our major commercial networks. the ones in this clip are relatively minimalist compared to some of the animated adverts which occupy the bottom third of the screen and jump around distracting you from the action. its a disgrace
The track speed of F1 is unreal, nothing in this world can come close, forget it. I wonder if the drivers get long term health effects from the g forces?
+Sherfan Idk where you get your facts from, but fighter pilots rarely pull 9Gs. For example, F/A-18 pilots pull 7.5G on an initial positioning turn that's considered the hardest turn during 1v1 dogfights. Furthermore, 9 G is NOT the limit for passing out... People regularly pass out around 5-7Gs, but it is entirely different for different people. If you meet someone who passes out at 9G, sign them up to be a human crash test dummy :)
no, but they have to be in perfect shape to drive that. very few things compare to that ... Vettel once said the only thing that would be close in at least acceleration would be a racebike, but of course those don't break or corner nearly as quick. Fighter jets are probably comparably extreme to maneuver, but I don't think they accelerate as fast as a F1 car.
Now I did not read all comments. But I do believe the promoters of this little race took the fast lap of each car and started them off with the right amount of head start to have them reach the finish within seconds of each other. Just for crowd amusement. Who says there's on math in racing. Remember being .001 sec/p/lap X 250 laps is one hell of a win.
+T Hud screw u TURHD. Just have to leave a crap reply didn't you. Get a life. I drive a race hauler for a prototype challenge team so I do have some background in racing. What do you have smuck.
Just because you drive a hauler doesn't mean you have a background in racing, it means you have a background in truck driving. I used to haul medical supplies, does that make me a doctor?
+T Hud Ok last reply Troll. Yes that does make me a truck driver. But after working with and around the race cars for 13 years there is little I can't do. My original comment was for the few who commented this could not be true. So do your self a favor " Don't try to be smart with people you don't know. Stay the way you are!" Now back under your rock.
I pasted the exact quote from f1 engineer, Gary Anderson. They are not my words. You originally wrote that "once it hit 300 km". This means you think it has insufficient down force to drive upside down below 300 kph. I challenged that. You didn't like being questioned. On some circuits the cars don't even reach 300 kph on the straights, so how would they drive inverted in your F1 world? On many circuits, turns are taken at speeds between 100 and 200 kph. Check out telemetry with G and speed.
Why didn't they take the audio directly from the sound mixing board instead of from a mic through the speakers. Australian is hard enough when the sound is clean, but as muddled as that was, I could barely understand it.
Drivers: David Coulthard, Mick Doohan, Casey Stoner. It's just for show, don't take it seriously. If it is not they wouldn't put motogp riders on a car. Don't you all see?
Seems alot of you think the V8 supercar, is a Pontiac G8 or Chevy V8 with a LS engine. This is an Australian 5.0l v8 specifically built for this touring class. it has 650hp and weighs 1400kg. This will destroy the AMG because it is a full blown race setup car.
v8 supercar engines actually use engines from the US and not Australia: "Engine and drivetrain[edit]All cars must be front-engined and rear-wheel drive. All cars use a 5.0-litre, naturally aspirated V8-engine with electronic fuel injection, capable of producing between 460 and 485 kW (620-650 bhp).[8] Manufacturers are free to choose between using an engine based on one from their own line up or a generic engine provided by V8 Supercars.[62] Both Ford and Holden use US-based racing engines with pushrod actuated valves and two valves per cylinder."
+Backdoor Bubba Brown Good old Wikipedia, people like to write anything. The engines are built here in Australia, Holden Use a 308 block which was made in aus from 1969 to 2000 and Ford use a block from a performance company SVO not far from Melbourne
***** What is the point in that link? You do realize a little company called GM from the US manufactures Holdens and provides engines for Holdens? Might want to do research on LS engines...
How do they calculate the handicap time difference? Is it based on top speed, power/weight or a combination of factors and if so how are they weighted?
This is a good video, But I prefer the following video from McLaren Mercedes. Search on RUclips for the following: McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 vs. CLK 63 AMG vs. DTM Mercedes vs
First, the speed I remember it from a Discovery Channel documentary about the McLaren Team. "F1 was designed by the race for the race." It means that the tecnology used in F1 cars (most of it) was improved based on it's experimentation and results in race conditions. Tested, analysed and improved to get better results. If your brain is small to the point of not understanding such a simple phrase you shouldn't even turn on your computer.
Just imagine all the weight in your body is 1/10 of what it is now and you had the strongest/fastest legs in the world. That's what a Formula 1 car is compares to a regular race/road car.
Former Jordan F1 technical chief Gary Anderson told the BBC: "The forces reacting on an F1 car push it into the ground and make it lean on its tyres but the car doesn't care if the ground is above it - or below. So in theory the car could probably drive along upside down in the roof of a tunnel at about 120mph and it would support its own weight, which is how aerodynamics work in aeroplanes." You don't like being challenged. The minimum speed at which down force would be less than 1G is?
If, if if......we are discussing real world and vehicles in race configuration. So somehow the driver has to get out after every turn and change the front and rear wings, then at the end of the straight, get out again and replace the wings with high downforce. That would occur 24 times per lap in a 12 turn circuit. The lap would only take about an hour:)
A modern F1 car could drive on the top of a tunnel upside down once it hit 300 kmh (estimated)... None of the others could even aspire to reach such an aerodinamic perfection status. F1 was designed by the race for the race.
F1 should be about 15 sec faster. It took off in 0:42 and finished in 2:26, thus lap in 1.44. Even considering demo tyres and safe engine mode, this was too slow.
[paraphrase of 0:35] "The biggest difference between the V8 supercar is the power, and the weight, and the F1 car's aerodynamics are staggering" So... they're practically the same car is what he's saying?
Should've got an SLS or something, the SL63 is bloody fast but it's a big fat GT car, not built for the track, like bringing an Aston Martin Vanquish to a track.
they used to do this kind of shit back in the 70's with rally cars and their equivalent road going stock machines from the factory. That is of course before group B rally took off in the 80's and made the craziest racing we'll EVER see
+Nowforever13 1. That wasn't even a NASCAR race car. That was a V8 Supercar. They're similar, but it's not a NASCAR race car. 2. At least they actually race in NASCAR and V8 Supercars.
Very similar! The V8 supercars(600-650hp) have about 300hp less than Nascar(850-900), however the supercars weigh less as a the bodies of the cars in Nascar are sheet metal. But basically they are both stripped down, "simple" racing cars.
***** I never said that they handled the same. Just said they are similar, basically stripped down cars with big engines. For your information though Nascar has two road races a year at Watkins Glen and Sonoma, they are awesome races to watch!
***** NASCAR do run street curcuits, they have to completely change the set up of the cars, buts good to watch. i personally prefer Aussie V8 racing, especially the ute's!
Had anyone seen the new formula 1 concept cars? Out looks like a f16 or a JSF F/35. It's a fighter jet with the wings and front chopped and made smaller to scale. It's the nastiest, sickest car I've ever seen. I'll find out more details unless someone knows what I'm talking about and can give me more info. I have a pic I can email to anyone curious. I'm on a cellphone so I don't have any movie maker
the sl63 lost because its a road car and weighs prbably close to a ton and a half.the driver did a good job. a purpose built track car will obviously beat it.
Stoner's bike wouldn't even come close to the cornering speed of the F1, that's just physics at work, though it may have a chance in terms of straight line acceleration.
A tuned Honda civic vs a Formula 1 in a DRAG race, the honda would probably win. But if it's a classic Circuit race the Formula 1 would pummel the Honda easy.
Hayabusa's don't corner worth a damn at all, they are made for streight line speed, not a circuit track. You'd be best off on a liter bike on a track like this, but even a highly modified track built liter bike could not keep pace with any F1 car.
well not in a curcuit but acceleration wise the F1 is actually pretty bad compeared to other motorsports. its the turns that make the F1 stand out. and they have top speed at what 350 km/h?
"well not in a curcuit but acceleration wise the F1 is actually pretty bad compeared to other motorsports" You comparing F1 with NHRA? They hit 300 in less than 15 seconds.
ROCKETGUN BOOMBS wtf? does it say other motorsports or does it say NHRA? never mentioned anything about NHRA, but if YOU want to compear those two, go ahead...
navye48 You said F1 isn't that qucik in acceleration, the only motor sport uses a quicker accelerating vehical is NHRA dragster. I don't think GT1,2,3 cars or F2 F3 or Ken block's 650hp Ford can accelerate quicker than a F1 car.
Doohan, Stoner, you got sandbagged! Chuck a lap in 2secs slower in the rehearsals and glory would have been yours. And the redbull lawyers would have been pissed!
Yeah a moto go bike would be no faster than the V8 supercar. Its been done, they aren't even remotely close to an F1 car in any way. F1 cars have been progressively crippled since the early 90s, if they hadn't I can't imagine how fast they would be now.
COULD if...... I was pointing out to those blinkered F1 fans (not you of course) that F1 car aren't always the quickest or fastest in a straight line BECAUSE of their huge down force. You can see plenty of evidence that MotoGP bikes accelerate quicker and reach higher top speeds on many of the circuits they both race on. Of course F1 will beat ANY vehicle on lap times around a circuit by a long time.
The holden is upgraded and tuned? More like the holden is a pure bred touring car... the only thing a v8 super car has in common with a road going car is the shape of the carbon fibre shell.
As the guy in the amg turns on his a/c and music...
No that’s just a Mercedes
It is very sad that people needed this concept explained. It isn't a race, it is a showcase to show the differences in speed between road cars, tin tops and F1 cars. Very very simple concept people, don't let it confuse you.

I don't really consider the SL63 AMG a "super car", just a very fast luxury car.
Demon50 "luxury"
jayjay yes luxury
I think the V8 Supercar they were referring to was a Holden based car. Not the AMG Mercedes.

You're not that bright are you?
no,if you calculated the differences of horse power, acceleration and weight,in fact the AMG is very fast as he could.

Lol the way the Red Bull F1 car caught up on the start finish straight brilliant!!
Love these videos! Old Top Gear (or was it some of Jeremy Clarksons own videos?) did two or three of these races. They never tire me :)
Couple years and this has been done with every possible combination of F1, racecar and fast road car.

Melnikov Jacob The V8 Supercar has no headlights or signal blinkers, so it would not be road legal.
Well this not, but there are a lot of legal supercars
So I was correct all along.

who's driving the SLS?
was that david coulthard in the red bull?
F1 should be about 15 sec faster. It took off in 0:42 and finished in 2:26, thus lap in 1.44. Even considering demo tyres and safe engine mode, this was too slow.
please! v8 series on gran turismo and more world circuits
[paraphrase of 0:35] "The biggest difference between the V8 supercar is the power, and the weight, and the F1 car's aerodynamics are staggering"
So... they're practically the same car is what he's saying?
Should've got an SLS or something, the SL63 is bloody fast but it's a big fat GT car, not built for the track, like bringing an Aston Martin Vanquish to a track.
David F I see, thanks.
they used to do this kind of shit back in the 70's with rally cars and their equivalent road going stock machines from the factory. That is of course before group B rally took off in the 80's and made the craziest racing we'll EVER see
nascar.. oh a left turn... oh a left turn, OMG guess what guys??? anouther left turn
F1 left turn, right turn, massive air draft causes it to flip
jeff dunham much?

1. That wasn't even a NASCAR race car. That was a V8 Supercar. They're similar, but it's not a NASCAR race car.
2. At least they actually race in NASCAR and V8 Supercars.
Beautiful race:-)
Is the V8 Supercar like another version of the Nascar cars?
Very similar! The V8 supercars(600-650hp) have about 300hp less than Nascar(850-900), however the supercars weigh less as a the bodies of the cars in Nascar are sheet metal. But basically they are both stripped down, "simple" racing cars.
***** I never said that they handled the same. Just said they are similar, basically stripped down cars with big engines. For your information though Nascar has two road races a year at Watkins Glen and Sonoma, they are awesome races to watch!
***** t'y youpitopo
***** NASCAR do run street curcuits, they have to completely change the set up of the cars, buts good to watch. i personally prefer Aussie V8 racing, especially the ute's!
+Dion Paxton Except they do run on tracks like this. Ever heard of Watkins Glen? Sonoma? Road America?
Had anyone seen the new formula 1 concept cars? Out looks like a f16 or a JSF F/35. It's a fighter jet with the wings and front chopped and made smaller to scale. It's the nastiest, sickest car I've ever seen. I'll find out more details unless someone knows what I'm talking about and can give me more info. I have a pic I can email to anyone curious. I'm on a cellphone so I don't have any movie maker
Where's the MAZDA ROTARY 26B?!
Formular 1 is the God of all lap races...
R.I.P. real F1 sound engine
the sl63 lost because its a road car and weighs prbably close to a ton and a half.the driver did a good job.
a purpose built track car will obviously beat it.
Mick doohan (AMG) is driving like what he is... a bike driver!!!
It's not the machine, it's the man
nope, the machine
Stoner's bike wouldn't even come close to the cornering speed of the F1, that's just physics at work, though it may have a chance in terms of straight line acceleration.
A tuned Honda civic vs a Formula 1 in a DRAG race, the honda would probably win. But if it's a classic Circuit race the Formula 1 would pummel the Honda easy.
I was being sarcastic, just found it a bit funny how far he went to essentially say "the F1 car is better at pretty much everything."
Hayabusa's don't corner worth a damn at all, they are made for streight line speed, not a circuit track. You'd be best off on a liter bike on a track like this, but even a highly modified track built liter bike could not keep pace with any F1 car.
the pinicle of technolgy is f1 and most of the teams build there cars in the UK
Aww that's Stoner in the supercar?? I wonder if he misses MotoGP, because we sure miss him.
wow the Benz did better than I thought! but no chance to race a F1! there is no GT or super sport can race a F1!!
well not in a curcuit but acceleration wise the F1 is actually pretty bad compeared to other motorsports. its the turns that make the F1 stand out. and they have top speed at what 350 km/h?
"well not in a curcuit but acceleration wise the F1 is actually pretty bad compeared to other motorsports"
You comparing F1 with NHRA? They hit 300 in less than 15 seconds.
ROCKETGUN BOOMBS
wtf? does it say other motorsports or does it say NHRA? never mentioned anything about NHRA, but if YOU want to compear those two, go ahead...
navye48 You said F1 isn't that qucik in acceleration, the only motor sport uses a quicker accelerating vehical is NHRA dragster. I don't think GT1,2,3 cars or F2 F3 or Ken block's 650hp Ford can accelerate quicker than a F1 car.
ROCKETGUN BOOMBS
well that is not true. since there is production cars with faster acceleration and some of those cars are being used in races..
But the second car didn't overtake the first car within 1 lap, did it?
Как в старые добрые времена с участием Айртона Сенны
It's obvious the f1 car hopped on a bus or something. That's why they don't show any video of it until it "catches up" with the other cars.
Also the f1 car is now faster and even faster in 2017
....Virtually the same result from when they did it with a Ferrari and two Fiats some years ago...
Nice race and I won't wonder why F-1 win this race!
Doohan, Stoner, you got sandbagged! Chuck a lap in 2secs slower in the rehearsals and glory would have been yours. And the redbull lawyers would have been pissed!
Who would thought that F1 is faster then a Mercedes 63 AMG
+HW2800 Everyone.
That is pretty unfair coz the merc was stock but the Holden has been upgraded and had been tuned but the f1 is of coarse faster so it is unfair
The holden is upgraded and tuned?
More like the holden is a pure bred touring car... the only thing a v8 super car has in common with a road going car is the shape of the carbon fibre shell.
+roflcopterkklol and the badge
F1 was Always Going To Win. Formula at its Best
If The Stig was in the SL63, neither of the cars would have stood a chance!
That's David Coulthard, not Seb.
