Great review Max, the tritium lume looks amazing. I would agree with you that it really is the only watch you need. I actually do use the chronograph to time maintenance activities on the aircraft, very handy.
Dan! Thanks so much, man! Means a lot coming from you. Totally agree on the tritium too. Originally, I was going to buy a birth year piece (1998) but I really wanted one with well-aged tritium and I couldn't say no to this.
I stand corrected, but the 1953 Smiths Deluxe A408 sumitted with Hillary according to him many years later. I read that he left the explorer at one of the camps during accent or Tenzing wore it...
Great content! I always self justified myself that 42mm pro is too large for my 6.25”, bought a speedy auto, very happy with it. and then you posted this the watch looked awesome on your wrist! haha but I have to save longer than 3yrs..
I always thought it would be far too large for me as well. I once owned a Speedy auto, loved it. Just didn't quite tick all of the boxes for me. The key to the fit of this one is the female end links in the 1479 bracelet. I highly recommend at least getting one on your wrist in the near future.
Nice review. I have to correct you about the Explorer though. It wasn’t the watch worn by Hillary when he scaled Mt. Everest. It was a white Oyster Perpetual with some design elements that would eventually find their way into the Explorer. A few years later Rolex used that watch as a starting point to design the first Explorer and then used its expertise in marketing to associate the Explorer with the conquest of Everest, even though technically speaking it had nothing to do with it.

Is it ever polished or serviced? Its case looks new without any scratches.
It's been serviced at least once--unfortunately the original hands were replaced--but the case is exceptionally sharp.
Will you do the skx next?
There's going to be a video up later today on the SKX! Not a full review, but an ownership review I guess

I know, but as the video was in depth on the Speedy, I figured I wouldn't dive too deep into the history of a different watch 🤷🏼♂️
What year is this omega?
Go to 20 seconds in. I say it around 25 seconds
It’s 1993
