This whole "apology" is so strange to me...
Phil starts by acknowledging something is wrong and needs to be changed while saying he wasn't aware of anything and yet takes full responsibility (?) It's more than likely he knew at least some of the stuff going on and did absolutely nothing about it, presumingly because he benefited from this whole situation one way or another
He then attacks the person who made all of this public and made everyone aware of what's going on, and then says they could've simply just get in touch with Hillsong about the whole situation.
Having attended Hillsong for 3 years myself, I know for a fact that when someone brings a serious concern up they wither 1) completely ignore you 2) refuse to talk about it and/or even look into the issue 3) cut you off completely 4) make themselves look good, even if it involves lying or 5) all of these things at once
Hillsong's history of problems also confirms they try to cover up problems/issues or, as Phil Dooley likes to call it "not cover up but also not expose" (source ruclips.net/video/2pQocArSxQA/видео.html )
The fact Phil also said "God Loves you", "you're still welcome at our church" and other similar stuff along these lines with a big smile on his face while everyone in the room is laughing and smiling also shows a level of immaturity from Phil, as well as everyone who was laughing and clapping.
I also don't understand why Phil is complaining about this person using the government protection, especially when he himself says it was used the right way most of the times beforehand.
I get why Phil and/or Hillsong in general might feel like they got stabbed in the back, but knowing how Hillsong works, I truly believe this was the only way of getting at least something out of this situation. By this I mean that even if Hillsong doesn't manage to change for the better (which I personally don't think will happen any time soon), we at least got some transparency of what's truly going on behind the scenes.
Lastly, if Phil and/or Hillsong wants to save money, why do they keep getting business class flights? I understand they do it for work, but the way Phil puts it makes it sound like business class gets from one place to another considerable faster than everyone else. I've never flown with a plane that had different classes, but aren't they in the same plane? don't they take off and land at the same time? Does business class *really* save you that much time?

As an intellectual pastor, surely Phill should know that a business class ticket does not take you home quicker, in fact, while you spend 5 times more on the flight, the benefits include luxury food, VIP treatment, luxury seats and an EGO boost. I have been working hard all my life, giving to the church, and never could even think of affording a BC ticket. But here is the thing, even if I could, I wouldn't because I always think of the better that money could do. Phil is sorry for what the people of the church have to go through because of the truth coming out?? But no remorse for what he has done? Not once is he sincerely apologising for the money splashed on him, instead he is playing the victim. This whole situation is making me nauseous. I have sat next to the homeless and poor in Cape town congregation, watching them give a few cents to the church, and for what! So he can own a shiny Cartier watch worth thousands? shame on you guys

These Tares cannot see that the Holy Spirit left their gatherings a very long time ago. When I lived in Sydney, our Youth leaders took us to Hillsong for a few visits. Even though I was very young I instantly perceived that something was not right there. It was a whole lot of running around and having fun. There was VERY LITTLE OF JESUS. It is sad to see how Satan has taken full control of that church. May God snatch the sincere and devout believers from the clutch of these false shepherds.

My father was a Pentecostal Pastor for more than 30 years in New Zealand and Australia and we never lived the lifestyle these people have. Dad often had another job to help make ends meet but we never went without. The Lord always provided. I've never been a fan of the mega church model as I think there can be too much room for pride, and misuse of power as you have shown numerous times Julie. As Paul Washer stated, the greatest threat to the church today are the Pastors. They are caught up in their vision and they lack accountability and transparency particularly when it comes to money. No servant can serve two masters!

Like any corporation that gets exposed for unlawful behaver they send out the 'clean up' crew who paint themselves as 'victims' , and the person who exposes them as the 'bad guy' but adding on the end that Jesus loves him. The thing is that people who have spoken out about Hillsong in the past have not only been stalked but intimidated by Hillson's protection team. There is no way that this person would have been able to go to hillsong directly with this matter. Good on him for using parliamentary privilege to expose this. Organized religion is harmful to human society
Organized religion, specifically the main three monotheistic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) cause more harm than good to human society and individual people.
Religion causes conflict between people. Almost everyone would agree that conflict is bad, since it causes physical and psychological harm to people. Conflict is more likely to occur when there are organized groups of people, or “tribes.” This is because each group has a cause they are fighting for, and people they are fighting against. In the case of religion, this is very evident as people in each religion would fight for their God, and would fight against other religions or against non religious people.
(For the previous point, it is talking more about modern day mistrust between religious and non religious people, not ancient wars)
Religion is based on non substantial evidence. Religious texts outline events which are not supported by our current understanding of the universe. These include the events of creation, various “miracles” performed by a divine being, and contemporary interaction between God and followers, such as through prayer. Although depending on who you ask and what their interpretations of the religious text is, some of these problems may be resolved as being merely metaphorical statements, many people also choose a more literal interpretation. Almost every seriously religious person would believe something that is at least partially contradictory to what has been proven to be possible, or is plausible given our current knowledge.
Given that religion accepts statements as knowledge despite them not being able to be proven, this will negatively affect the future choices made by people. One of the most fundamental differences between knowledge with proof and knowledge without proof is that the knowledge without proof is a lot more resistant to change. Think about someone challenging a scientific theory, and comparing it to someone challenging the existence of God. Since our knowledge affects the choices we make, and knowledge that is closer to the truth will cause people to make better choices, it would be better to allow for positive change (as in non religion), as opposed to not allowing positive change (as in religion).
Although there are some positive effects of religion, such as trying to balance wealth between people (such as through charities), the negative effects far outweigh the positive ones.

This is actually what "Judge not lest you be judged" means. In ancient Israel, all men wished they were the Rabbi in their town, because he had prestige and privileges; And the alternate name for the Rabbi was "the judge"...
People think that being a megachurch pastor is such a lit job, and psychologists say that narcissists are known to move aggressively toward chairs of high authority in both politics and religion.
But look at the bullshit you very well might deal with by becoming a "somebody" in church. Often these men end up with the perfect opposite of prestige. They end up with a putrid name for the rest of their lives.
Seriously, if you want to lead people, you'd better make sure you don't have a log in your eye (which meant you were well acquainted with fasting and repentance for years before ministry).
If not, then forget about it. You're better off being "nobody" in church, and a regular guy in the world, than to rightly be seen as a weasel by practically everyone.

12It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. 13God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, “You must remove the evil person from among you.”

Christ actually tells us to be perfect as our Father in Heaven in perfect. Why do we accept such a low standard from these organizations who claim to follow Christ? Truth telling isn't judgement. A judgement is when you make a statement of condemnation in reaction to an observed truth. Eg: they steal money and deserve to go to hell. You have to call out the stealing (observation) but it's not your job to condemn and punish (say what they deserve). Please get some wisdom.

He who helps the poor, lends to the Lord. Now this has been brought to the light, you guys have alot to answer for, repent and start supporting missions. Your esteem and pride in how important your are just blows my mind. Repent repent repent you greedy, self centred leaders. Imagine what you could do with those millions....Jesus had no place to lay his head.... The gospel does not cost millions, helping the poor does. There are missionaries sitting in your pews that have a heart for the nation's, are they supported or is it just the elite all knowing elders that get to fly business class to preach a sermon. Your structure and culture needs to be biblical. Not your thoughts or ideas. Your vision needs to be biblical. Wake up Jesus is coming soon! It's because of false definitions like this that the Christian world is getting worse by the day, ever looking like the world and even worse, allowing any type of rubbish in the House of God.
I hope that people who claim to be Christians know that the true God is HOLY and will NEVER allow anyone who condone any type of sin in His Kingdom! Revelation 22:15, 1 Corinthians 6:9 Do not be DECEIVED: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God!!

@@MalaikaLele grace is unmerited favor, not the power to overcome sin. That is sanctification which is a lifelong process that won't be fully complete until we get to heaven. You're getting your definitions mixed up. Grace is definitely not a license to sin but it does let us know that we have an advocate with the Father when we do sin and come to him in humble repentance. While it is good to oppose sin and as Christians we should be doing that, we got to be careful that we don't fall into the trap of legalism and make Christianity into another works based religion. If grace meant we had to completely stop sinning we'd all be in trouble!
