A pastor isn’t a celebrity, he’s a leader, the one that guides the flock. He’s not supposed to be the focus, Jesus is. Everything true christians focus upon is towards Jesus and Jesus alone
God elevates strong leaders just as much as he does humble servants. There are a lot of “champions” that we know very well from the scriptures whom god loved very much as well.

This perverted in outlook or ideal That your religious fanaticism Seems to draw you people like a moth to a light It really is insane when you sit back and acknowledge the fact that you all are worshipping a vacuum
This is the problem, people today worship the pastor instead of Jesus. They look to the man instead of God. 95% of the professed Christians I know today are spiritually disarmed and lost. They think saying “I’m a Christian” is enough. You have to walk your talk. Most don’t. You bring up God, the Bible, anything, and they’re just not interested in any of it. They are OF this world instead of IN this world.
@amanda copeland you hit the nail on the head! So so true, ppl need to stop idolising pastors. Stop putting them on pedestals. Whenever you put your faith in man you will always be disappointed.
Serving God is more about obedience which in turn gets translated into perfection, its not about perfection from a human standpoint because that would be impossible. God doesn't expect from us hat only he can do.
I'd encourage you to rethink this theology. The church started because of men being the head of it on earth (the Apostles). The key is "on earth." Your response is a typical legalistic argument to not have to submit to any authority. But Christ is clear that he's the head of the church in the ultimate sense, but he still uses his earthly leaders to guide it and build it. It was the point in Christ telling Peter that He would start to build his church on Peter's leadership (Matt 16:18). Paul was the head of the churches he planted, so were the other apostles that planted.
@@JD-rx2kh Colossians 1:18,24 I don’t need to rethink my theology, b/c “theology” is not mine to begin with. The Bible says Christ is head of His church. The end.

Hasn't Jesus taken care of sin? That's not an excuse but a sin should not be judge by anyone who sins themselves aka all of us. It's 110% not the responsibility of another man to call out or talk about another's shortcomings but to love them... There's no point scale in heaven friend

Pastor B. was being an honest human. Don't steal it from its context. Simply put, it can be easier to give in and follow your flesh's passions, but following Jesus is worth it all. As one of their worship leaders/songwriters said, "faith's about becoming more like Jesus no matter what the cost."
@@kennysfdg471 wrong. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Heb 11:1. These 'leaders' in these churches are not educated on the word of God. Sanctification, rather, is God's work of conforming us to the image of Christ. Stop listening to these people who have no idea what they are talking about. and it is quite sad that he finds it 'unfortunate' because it just shows that he indeed does not desire to have that biblical view yet has to if he wants to keep the charade up.
@@kennysfdg471 No it is not. You quoted ‘faith is about becoming more like Jesus no matter what the cost.’ This is not at all what faith is. That is sanctification, not faith. Totally different things :)
It's unfortunate that he said "unfortunately" though before he said that. It's saddening to hear a Christian finding it unfortunate to represent Christ!
Y’all taking this out of context 🙄 Essentially Brian was emphasising that unfortunately representing Jesus means we no longer represent our own thoughts, feelings and emotions. He was bridging a gap in understanding with a critical world who operates solely in the flesh!
Someone who walks in sin can still lead you to Christ. The point is to recognize they are not pleasing to God. We don't get into heaven based on people we lead to Jesus,we get to heaven by trusting Him and obeying Him.
I have friends who are pastors, I am close to many pastors, I hear their cries about their church. Their struggles in their ministries, people, finances, you name it. I hear their struggles and I see it everyday. The pastors close to me are THIS CLOSE to breaking under all of that pressure. I praise and thank the Lord that He’s giving them strength to operate under such stress. To even put this scandal into perspective, I don’t even know how pastor Brian is dealing with it. Really, imagine leading 5+ diff churches worldwide, with their own unique problems and needs. Only by the grace of God that’s he’s able to not crack under pressure. Instead of criticizing the leadership, pray for the leadership because all in all the pastors are human. They do sometimes crack and break, hence they need prayers and support. We are the Body of Christ and we are supposed to group hug each other when trials and tribulations rise.
I think pastors and church leaders "crack under pressure" because it is a "one man system" led from the front, while the passive congregation listen. The New Testament cites an "all-body ministry" made up of pastors, prophets, teachers, evamgelists, etc. They are not meant to be carried out by ONE PERSON, which is why they get burnt out. A pastor is not a teacher and vice versa. They are two separate roles. Pastors are pastoral and care for the flock such as visiting and counselling etc, but a teacher is responsible for the promulgation of Bible reading and sound doctrine. If the two roles overlap (as in many denominational churches) then the concentration on one role will be diluted and compromised. The answer to all these 'failures' is in the Bible!
I hope you're not sticking up for this horrible person and his corporate big money "church" As a Christian I find mega churches like Hillsong absolutely tasteless and disgusting. And the people who support and go to these churches need to DO BETTER. Go to a small local humble a legirltimate church. LMAOOOO, I haven't gone to church in awhile. But whenever I saw this Carl Lentz guy, with his designer fashion and friends, I never really bought that a person like him could lead a religious community. Where is the humility? The humbleness? Not surprised by this news at all.
Humility is not about outward appearance it's about one's heart attitude. You can read where Moses wrote that HE was the meekest man alive. Not what you might expect when describing oneself! Meekness & humility is about our heart attitude and our response to glorifying Him.
Humbleness has got nothing to do with clothes. As you said, you haven’t been in church in a while, so am sure you haven’t been ready your bubble for a while either
@@RS-yw4wg Maybe not. But these ''leaders'' were blowing money on designer brands, jewelry and other luxuries. All i can say is fear the Lord, fear the Lord, fear the Lord, fear the Lord, fear the Lord because he is your creator, He is patient, loving and kind. Fear him! fear him!
Why would you fear a loving patient and kind creator that is Love. Carl made a mistake but his sins were covered on the cross by his Savior. Christ forgivies but the media never does.
polly dunn.. type into google “fear the lord, bible verses” you will get an enormous amount of content!! the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom, the Fear of Man is a snare (“it’s a trap”!😜) What does it mean to fear man? to be always conscious of their eyes on you and adjust your behavior based on knowing their watching. @@JessWehrle She's correct, Polly. But we are near the "peace and security" (some say "safety") prophecy and there's nothing left to really be fulfilled next to the Harpazo. I feel the two witnesses should be here very soon.
I choose to look up love of God scriptures. Fear usually comes from Satan. Yes dont let men rule how you think or act. Thats what the media does to get the attention they crave. God definately is interested in our souls because He created them so we could love worship and have a relationship with Him through His only begotten son Yeshua. The veil in the temple was torn at the crucifixion to open that doorway to God so the only high priest we need is Yeshua. The media would like to find fault in every Christian church out there. The pastors are all sinners just like Carl and all of us but guess what those are the ones Yeshua loved on the most when He was here. He looks at the heart. Anyone that puts any pastor on a special pedestal needs to quit. That is a form of idol worship that most don't deserve or want. They are just doing what THEY feel God called them to do whether He did or didn't. I think most try to do their best but it is the Holy Spirit that touches people and brings them to God not any person.
Wow!! This is not the first time this has happened in a ministry. God is cleaning house and He corrects us He loves us. What God allows to be taken down He will build back up. We are not perfect, people fail but God’s love never fails.
The danger with people like him, America's Celebrity Pastors, is that we put them on pedestals. They become symbols, icons, and then we start to forget about their flaws.-Baron Zemo
That's because the modern Evangelical system in the West is a religion based on believing you go to Heaven when you die. These Pastors are what they are because they don't have the Gospel, but have a counterfeit that puts heavy burdens on people and keeps them out of the Kingdom of YHWH.
AMEN! I strayed so far from God because I was discouraged and focused on the bad in the Catholic Church. It was all part of His plan in retrospect...but I hope other people can just read the Bible directly so God can speak directly to them
He was saying what lawyers told him to say, he was very evasive. Very very sad. But God is exposing corruption and sin the House of the Lord. Just the beginning.
I think as Christians we need to pray for those who are "popular" in ministry or famous in a world setting. Take Chip and Joanna Gaines, I pray for them often that they will be able to stay true to each other and their faith. The same for Steven Furtick and his wife.
Yes, this! The truth is that there are people who love the Lord and are full of charisma. This is attractive to Christians and non Christians alike. Once in leadership, the challenge is staying true to God, no matter what. Your calling above all else!
I didn't hear a Word about repentance. Maybe I missed it. We should all as the Body be broken over this going on in God's House. Yes, Christ is the Head of the Church. What will Jesus find in the church when He returns?
I was waiting for that in the whole interview for him to acknowledge that Christ is the head of the church and that it’s Christ that does the work in people for them to change and not a talented man. His carrying so much weight on his shoulders. He needs to let Christ help him in management of Hillsong. I am sure it’s been tough on him. May The Lord help and guide him through.
I grew up in a traditional church, I have made my decision to believe, I have gone through different seasons in my journey with God and have been to and served in different churches. No church is perfect because no one is perfect, we come to church because we're thirsty for God and we want to follow. I just hope that all these scandals, bad news don't affect our believe in God. The greatness of God can nowhere be represented by any church on earth, but we still come because we want more of life and for each other.
Agree. Also, as Christianity becomes more and more illegal and not tolerated by culture, more churches will be exposed and quit b/c it's no longer a way for them to have power/control or to be cool.
One thing that we all MUST remember, is that none of us are perfect and without sin. My heart goes out to both the victims and the ones behind the victimisation. God both heals wounds AND forgives the darkest of sins. And let us all remember that though one of the body might fall and make a most hurtful mistake, the message of the cross does not change. Love. The reason for that is that others may have been abused also, so the investigation has to assume that. And it is often the case that others are involved. This was not only an allegation, but his father admitted to the offending. Houston has admitted publicly that he did not report his father, but did have him removed from his position. No wonder people like this Christianity thing, you can do literally anything and no one will ever hold you responsible for it IF you appeal to the basic tenet of the religion which is “you are all terrible people” . You escape accountability for your flaws while you go about judging others, like gays and transgendered people for what you mistakenly assume is their “flaw” . What a mess these people are.
This is the problem with these churches as they pedal "cheap grace" and preach that is ok to remain in your sin and God will give you a mulligan. Jesus said "be ye perfect as your father is perfect" in Matthew 5 so why are we not striving to hit the bulls eye? Because of churches like hillsong who teach baby Christians to believe its ok to remain in their sin. NO! Jesus's first ministry was repentance! Are we forgetting that God is sovereign? Do not be deceived by the music and the watered down message!
I think Houston’s responses were good. Glad to see Hillsong taking time to reflect and put more accountability in their leadership. Their music is amazing.
Every time I went to Hillsong(South Africa) I always left feeling peace, hopeful & my faith restored. May God continue work & touch lives through this ministry❤
Keep deceiving yourself. They probably are telling people like you what you want to hear. Thats why so many of you are blindly following their nonsense
I went to Hillsong church in The Cape (SA) once , never heard of Hillsong before that, I had the opposite feeling leaving that church😒.. gutfeeling was NO!!...
It's because they use emotions instead of teaching what the bible actually says. In some good churches you leave so convicted that you do not walk out feeling good.
Regardless I thank God for all Churches. Thank u Pastor Brian for this. Nobody can have a perfect big organization or church we just have to keep getting renewed in the word and yielding to the Lord. We are all still in progress.
Lol, I think he meant it more as, as a Christian in general, your thoughts on a situation may not always be perfectly aligned with what the Bible says, which makes sense because we are all imperfect and fall short of the glory of God. However, He represents a Truth greater than his own mindset (which is influenced by the world since he's still human), and as a pastor, it's his responsibility to preach the surpassing righteousness of God's truth, even when he can't fully understand it all.
Where was the Lord when Houston's father was molesting kids back in the 70's? Kids lives ruined forever, if they didn't take their own lives at a young age due to abuse. Have a good hard think about that. Pastor Brian will need more than the Lord to get himself out of the current crisis he got himself into, due to his inaction on his father back in the day. Even the best lawyers cannot get him out of what he only has himself to blame for. Covering up his fathers crimes when in the Pentacostal Church, to protect the name of the church. And he has done the same later after setting up Hillsong. Protect the name of the "church", (business), over all else. What a loser.

I honestly think part of the reason Hillsong has found itself in the state it is in now is because the Church indeed is too big. So many branches, operating like a business with little to no accountability, evidently, with what has come to light.
As a Christian, I think she asked fantastic questions. I was tracking ok with this guy (he was giving pretty solid answers) until she asked if it's possible that the church was TOO big. That answer to me exposed his naked ambition. He doesn't think it's possible to be too big. Red flag.
Went to a Hillsong Conference in 2012 where both this guy and Carl Lentz and the rest attended. Will never forget that they had their own VIP section for these ppl and so us with a buggy had to carry the buggy’s up several flight of stairs instead of getting to use the elevator👍🏽 That was the end of respect for this church. What has happened does not surprise me at all.
I was a (volunteer) bus driver for a few conferences. The VIP sections, and the VIP guest speakers getting chauffeur driven from the airport to the conferences (-the lesser known, even if they were from overseas, were driven around in the bus -) made me uncomfortable. The local leaders, as many of the volunteers were nice enough, well meaning people.
@@jasonayres That`s the sad part isn`t it. So many kind and God fearing ppl in these churches being exploited. Hopefully what`s happening now will teach them a good lesson.
They have turned church into a business; a way of making a profit. I’ve watch Hillsong before and was never able to connect because it felt more like a conference/concert, showing off its luxuries, than a church. Very little of the Bible was discussed and people weren’t being spiritual awaken/enlighten (not saying that people were not)
That’s really interesting though, 10 years ago I found Jesus when I started attending Hillsong church Paris, since that day, my life completely changed.
Not everybody has the same experience as you. If you didnt enjoy or feel spiritual awakening its because thats not what you liked. But some people like the certain things hillsong does, like their ministering or their worship, and keep attending.
It has been a business since the Catholic Church started the wide spread of Christianity. The roman leader used it to control the people and the C church to gain money and power.
Of course God is, the only one in thw wrong here was Carl Lentz and nothing else. He doesnt represent hillsong, he represents himself as a person so he needs to take accountability and not through hillsong as a whole under the bus
One of the main issues with Hillsong is that its trying to reach the world on the world's terms, instead of on God's terms with its celebrity, cool preachers

Sorry dude but from a secular point of view, she got that right. Yes, Jesus is the head of the Church, the Shepherd of the flock. Pastors are under shepherds and the senior Pastor is responsible to insure that those the church employs are being faithful to Christ in their personal lives as well as their public lives. There has to be a human in charge of the local Church and God has chosen the Pastor for that job and that responsibility. It's just like a corporation. The CEO that is hired today, despite being on the job for an hour, must do his job from an ownership point of view. Otherwise, he or she has no personal investment in the corporation and may do much more harm than good to the company.

Jesus never intended a church to me a “mega church” where intimacy and accountability gets lost. There is definitely something to be said about a church that is too big and the focus is taken off Jesus.
@@lightbourn5391 on numerous occasions over 5000 people came to listen to Jesus and gathered in one place. And that number does not even reflect the women and children who were present. I would call that megachurch.
@@lightbourn5391 What a STUPID statement . Did you get that word from the bible or are you assuming things? The size of a church has nothing to do with your relationship with GOD. If his calling is to Pastor a large chruch why not?
I think what she was hinting at was that the oversight and accountability necessary maybe wasn’t there for a body that large and that maybe that’s never easily achievable. I mean corporations have issues like this all the time too. The bigger you get, the harder it is to keep accountability. You need bureaucracy and systems in place to even be able to catch rot and corruption. It’s difficult. I think it’s a fair question, if posed as, can you keep accountability with a church this large, and if not, should steps be taken to ensure that you can, by downsizing or whatnot. Maybe it’s a criticism of the size of a church, but I’m not sure it has to be seen that way. I actually really liked this interview. Fair, but we’ll intentioned, asking a few hard questions. And the interviewee seemed to not be especially dodgy. Maybe not the most raw interview ever, but a good one.
“If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.
Listen, accept the Lord Jesus Christ teaching of the gospel and be baptise for cleansing of sins. Obey God's word and adapt it in your day to day life.
Which commands are we to obey? Jesus told his disciples not to preach to gentiles. Do we obey that? Jesus told people to keep the law (613 of them). Do we keep them? Jesus told a young man to keep the law to gain eternal life. Is that what we are to do? Jesus gave Paul the revelation of the mystery which is how we are saved by grace without works of law. Should we listen to Paul who received new instructions from the risen Christ?
Wow. What a brilliant comment made by the reporter. "what would Jesus think if he was sitting in Hillsong church.....?" I think he would feel very uncomfortable knowing that Jesus was all about community and the message of god. He lived a very minimalistic life and i'm not saying money is bad or evil but I am saying it is the root of many corrupt behaviours. I am a former Hillsong attender who's life was completely changed when discovering the church in 2008 and not for the better. Jesus is about people, people connected and loved and cherished and respected. My experience with Hillsong was far removed form these things and I felt used, overworked and under appreciated after volunteering in their annual conference in 08. I just felt compelled to say something. Stay safe, stay strong and love one another.

“Do you ever think about what Jesus would have felt like sitting on Hillsong church?” Thats a very loaded and relevant question. I think deep down, a lot of Pastors would say ‘NO’ but their pride will keep them from that truth.

Remember this. When a man is “head” of the church, it has stopped being Christ’s church. Christ is the one and only head of HIS Church.

I agree with you Trisha Gives🤗🤗🙏🙏❤❤💜💜

The danger with people like him, America's Celebrity Pastors, is that we put them on pedestals. They become symbols, icons, and then we start to forget about their flaws.-Baron Zemo
And I have never found much substance to his messages that could explain the size pig his church.
That's because the modern Evangelical system in the West is a religion based on believing you go to Heaven when you die. These Pastors are what they are because they don't have the Gospel, but have a counterfeit that puts heavy burdens on people and keeps them out of the Kingdom of YHWH.

I grew up in a traditional church, I have made my decision to believe, I have gone through different seasons in my journey with God and have been to and served in different churches. Nope, assault is not a "we are all sinners" conversation. Ravi did horrific disgusting things. To reduce it to that is unjust and why so many people leave the church. Making what he did palatable is one of the reason I grew tired of Christianity.
@@michellec.7996 I agree the accusations are pretty horrible. But there were a numbers of things I don't like about this case. He had the woman who sent him nude pictures in 2017. Anyways, the inquiry stated he was guilty, and that is a terrible thing he did. I don't like how his wife was evicted from her home this week. His daughter and the rest of his family are also getting dumped on when they were not part of these accusations. My family were just discussing this tonight. Ive just been led recently to stay away from her basically. plus, things are real good for me, shes missing her hair, her teeth have all fallen out - not kidding - her health is falling quickly, her finances are a mess & shes miserable.

God's church can't be too big but yes, a pastor's congregation can.
Jesus calls us to Be the “Church”
A buggy for what?
@@drrush3421 A baby buggy.
Cult leaders always distance themselves from their followers. Familiarity breeds contempt.
Very little of the Bible was discussed and people weren’t being spiritual awaken/enlighten (not saying that people were not)
That's a good point. However at the end of the day :
It's what we as parishioners gain from the message 🙏🏽
Exactly right!
That’s really interesting though,
10 years ago I found Jesus when I started attending Hillsong church Paris, since that day, my life completely changed.
Praying for Hillsong. There are good things that happen there. God is still working there.
In agreement.
Of course God is, the only one in thw wrong here was Carl Lentz and nothing else. He doesnt represent hillsong, he represents himself as a person so he needs to take accountability and not through hillsong as a whole under the bus
I don’t think so. When’s the last time you listened to the preachers? They’re not teaching biblically. It’s all feel good and inaccurate.
One of the main issues with Hillsong is that its trying to reach the world on the world's terms, instead of on God's terms with its celebrity, cool preachers

I totally agree, Pastor Brian answered well and what seemed to be genuinely

Overly edited. Not produced well.

Great job of probing and not letting Houston off the hook for bland answers. She did this without attempting to embarrass him. She made it about the church and not sensationalism to create a story. Great interview

“Do you ever think about what Jesus would have felt like sitting on Hillsong church?” Thats a very loaded and relevant question. I think deep down, a lot of Pastors would say ‘NO’ but their pride will keep them from that truth.
Jesus would be displeased. He said plainly that He was the way, the truth and the life....and Brian Houston says that Christians and Muslims worship the same god. FALSE!!!

It seemed when he answered that question that he had never thought about it before, which is disturbing in itself.

Hello how are you doing?
Remember, we are all just failing humans, that's why we need Jesus. Anyone can fall down. The sad thing is people tend to make made judgements about whole churches and Christians in general when these things happen.
That is why we have to look within and make sure that every day we crucify the flesh so that Jesus is seen. Yes, we're human so we make mistakes but this isn't an excuse to continue in sin. As u, I am sad cus it causes division and it leads to separation. More people turn away from Christ cus of these kinds of things. However, our focus should not be on man but on Christ. That is the difference!
The pastor of my church when I was a kid had to step down because of adultery nearly 20 years ago. This is not the first time it’s happened so I’m surprised it’s gotten so much attention. I don’t think what he did was right, but people make mistakes... even Christians.
