    Lived in Thailand 10 years...
1..Language not a big deal unless you live out in the middle of nowhere...can learn all you need to know in a month for taxis, restaurants and having a basic conversation.
    2. A LOT of good, educated Thai women but hard to find outside of Bangkok. Be ready to support them though if you expect them to quit their job to be with you.
    3. Many visa agents can arrange for long term visa for a reasonable fee. Easy to find this in Pattaya/Jomtien.
    4. Many older expat men can have relationships with very attractive women under 30 but expect to be the sugardaddy.

your point #4 : exactly 💯 .. that falls in to the p4p arrangement i mentioned in my first comment here on the thread .. many men .. even much younger men pay their 'gf' a monthly salary ranging anywhere from 10 000 baht to 30 000 and beyond .. this arrangement is very very common in Thailand .. especially if you're older or younger average looking to hhmm well being ugly 🤷 many men don't care about genuine desire based attraction .. such an arrangement is perfect then IF one can afford it

It's been said many times, but every place has it's pros and cons... It just depends which place is best for YOU. That's a very personal decision. But it doesn't make sense to compare the two unless you've actually spent quite a bit of time living in both countries. Just experiencing a country like a tourist doesn't count. You've got to experience day to day living. Getting your visa renewed. Having a long term rental. Looking for a dentist. Opening a bank account. Applying for a cashless app. Shopping for groceries and realizing what is and what is not available. Etc. Both countries are awesome in their own ways. But after having spent several years in both countries, the one I decided on is the Philippines. Just overall more comfortable and better quality of life and less stress. Day to day living is easier, happier and less stressful than in Thailand. Just my two cents. The great news is, whichever country you live in, it's easy to visit the other country.

On the point about English language, it’s way way way better than it was, someone told me now 50% understand / speak English, it’s taught in all schools so give it a generation and it’ll likely be similar to the Philippines when it comes to numbers of people who understand / speak.

So a american is going from a really "low income developing country" Philippines to Thailand that is a "higher middle income booming industrial country".
50 % of the thais earning OVER 88900 baht (median income 2023) which is 2755 $ have in mind that a dinner cost around 1,5- 2$ and a nice condo rent is 3-400 $ in bangkok
Funny enough Many basic things are cheaper in thailand to and the infrastructure internet and healthcare safety and cleanliness is on another level even against america in many cases.

    • @pensionandapassport
      @pensionandapassport 5 дней назад

The median income can be very deceiving. The disparity from the top and bottom earners is huge. A government teacher with some seniority might make 50k bhat a month. An entry-level job maybe 15k bhat a month. The more expensive the area, the higher the wages generally. So Bangkok will have higher wages than rural Thailand.

I suggest if you are single and wanting to come to Thailand read the book by Stephen Leather called "Private Dancer" a good read regarding the social interactions between foregoers and Thai ladies. Long story short, Thailand wins on the infrastructure, food, visa, accommodation, travelling around, healthcare... The Philippines wins on nature, language, tax, and ladies. Culture-wise it is easier to adapt to the Philippines. For the younger and healthy guys with 3000+ USD disposable income, Thailand might be a better choice. I have a 60+ friend living with his 30 yo younger Thai GF in Thailand. He learned the language as he is not from an English-speaking country. Europeans are generally open to learning foreign languages and are more adaptable, yet Americans and Brits are not. That might be the reason for seeing more Europeans in Thailand.

I suspect there are many parallels between the countries but I think Thailand is a better place to live long term. This is largely due to far better infrastructure and the fact that the country is more unified not spread out over 7,000 islands. Blackouts of electricity and internet service, which generally is far superior, almost never happen. Much better medical services. No food shortages and food prices more stable.
Negatives: Fewer people speak English. Thai language is difficult to learn for many foreigners.
There are cultural quirks that are hard to understand and / or justify by western standards. This is also true about the Philippines.
There is a big but subtle difference in the belief systems.
The Philippines has a very thin veneer of Americanism, less than 100 years, layered on top of a slightly thicker veneer of Hispanic colonialism, about 400 years worth. Both of those are on top of a basic and thickly rooted Asian history / background. And all of that has an imported and force fed religion laid on top of it.
Thailand has a much more unified cultural history and is mostly Buddhist, giving it a far different attitude to the people about life in general.
This is a big deal and not all that obvious until you spend some time in each country.

there are countless older men with very young Thai women in Thailand .. but 99% of that you see is exclusively a p4p transactional agreement .. as an older man ie 60+ you CAN get a much younger woman but you have to live there permanently and it might take you a long time to meet a 'non-working' younger woman .. it WILL be difficult tho to get a gorgeous 20 somethingb/early 30s non p4p girl if you're old .. especially if you're unattractive ie overweight .. poor grooming etc etc

And, it is perfectly legal for a US Citizen to also be a dually. There are literally millions of us. I'm a dual US/Canada citizen.
So, he doesn't have to give up the US citizenship to hold a Saint Lucia passport.
He would have to do so though to escape US taxes. That said, that is also a complicated endeavor as the US doesn't allow you to just walk away. You WILL have tax liability to deal with during the process.

It's basically used to describe caucasians, though African-Americans will sometimes also be known as farang or as farang dam ('black farang').
