Funny hearing someone talk about Jontiem and Pattaya after spending time there already. While I've never visited the Philippines. If you want a clean beach there is the island of Ko Larn . Only a 20 min ferry ride or 10 minute Jet boat ride. I'm going to spend a few days there next time I visit. Not much of a night life but great to relax ❤ Maybe take a fishing trip 😀
Bangkok is great, I've been here for 7 years now. I think a more poignant comparison with the Philippines is the poorer farming areas. Farmers in Thailand have livable homes & sufficient income. The Philippine countryside is mostly ramshackle huts with tin roofs, dirt floors and crushing poverty. My Thai retirement visa requires I bring in 65K Baht per month ($2008.00 usd). I'd love to chat with this guy, seems like a nice dude.

Kevin recommend you watch Greeny Travels on RUclips for info on Thailand. I have lived in both Thailand and with family in Olongapo city, PI. Your info on Thailand is way off. Age gap relationships-half your age plus 7, that’s about as young a female you can get without paying for it. It is not legal in Thailand to vape out on the street that is why you don’t see it. You can get along in Jomtien and Pattaya without learning Thai. The only reason I choose PI is because my wife is a Filipina. If I was not married I would be in Thailand. Best of luck.

Thailand is cheaper. Standard of living is generally better across the board. Power grid, Transportation, Healthcare…Philippines is a Catholic country and most speak English. Don’t forget someone who is in the process of renouncing their citizenship is still subject to an “exit tax.” If you have a tax advantaged account, like IRA, there will still be tax consequences.
Long story short, Thailand wins on the infrastructure, food, visa, accommodation, travelling around, healthcare... The Philippines wins on nature, language, tax, and ladies. Culture-wise it is easier to adapt to the Philippines. For the younger and healthy guys with 3000+ USD disposable income, Thailand might be a better choice. I have a 60+ friend living with his 30 yo younger Thai GF in Thailand. He learned the language as he is not from an English-speaking country. Europeans are generally open to learning foreign languages and are more adaptable, yet Americans and Brits are not. That might be the reason for seeing more Europeans in Thailand.
I have to add one more : Thailand wins on the natural disasters. Another typhoon hit Philippines again, destroying the already poor infrastructure. Americans might be more familiar with them, but Europeans...
I suspect there are many parallels between the countries but I think Thailand is a better place to live long term. This is largely due to far better infrastructure and the fact that the country is more unified not spread out over 7,000 islands. Blackouts of electricity and internet service, which generally is far superior, almost never happen. Much better medical services. No food shortages and food prices more stable. Negatives: Fewer people speak English. Thai language is difficult to learn for many foreigners. There are cultural quirks that are hard to understand and / or justify by western standards. This is also true about the Philippines. There is a big but subtle difference in the belief systems. The Philippines has a very thin veneer of Americanism, less than 100 years, layered on top of a slightly thicker veneer of Hispanic colonialism, about 400 years worth. Both of those are on top of a basic and thickly rooted Asian history / background. And all of that has an imported and force fed religion laid on top of it. Thailand has a much more unified cultural history and is mostly Buddhist, giving it a far different attitude to the people about life in general. This is a big deal and not all that obvious until you spend some time in each country.
It’s sad that successful Americans like this guy are aspiring to renounce their US citizenship because of the unfair taxes that America imposes on its citizens living abroad
there are countless older men with very young Thai women in Thailand .. but 99% of that you see is exclusively a p4p transactional agreement .. as an older man ie 60+ you CAN get a much younger woman but you have to live there permanently and it might take you a long time to meet a 'non-working' younger woman .. it WILL be difficult tho to get a gorgeous 20 somethingb/early 30s non p4p girl if you're old .. especially if you're unattractive ie overweight .. poor grooming etc etc

thailand is way more expensive than the PI the girls are merciless and thats being kind but it is very modern and the food and accommodation it better your pal needs to spend more time there to get a better idea of a comparison i spent my early years in thailand but i go PI now.
The word "Farang" means white people and is used exactly as how "White People" is used in English. It can be neutral and a-matter-of-factly or positive or negative, depending on the context. "Farang" is becoming more inclusive towards westerners of other races though. "Farang" deviated from "Francais".
Reekay has never been near Thailand. He was in Vietnam. And leaving on Singapre airlines doesn't mean you don't have to deal with immigration. What an absurd statement.
I’ve been living in Thailand for the past seven years. I never even considered the Philippines.. from what I can see from the channels that I do stumble upon too many of you are still tied to the Usa it’s politics, complaining, and a lack of planning living on shoestring budgets. Thailand is expensive, but it’s great if you have your shit together.😂👍🙏
Thailand is thriving and modernized. Once you compare the two countries, it’s no comparison for quality of life. Also the real estate transactions are so much easier! You get title the day you close. But the adventure factor in the Philippines is unparalleled with all the islands to explore
Not sure why Kevin think he has to give up his US Citizenship. Search for Dual Citizenship and Saint Lucia. and you'll find "Saint Lucia recognises dual citizenship so you can retain your current nationality." And, it is perfectly legal for a US Citizen to also be a dually. There are literally millions of us. I'm a dual US/Canada citizen. So, he doesn't have to give up the US citizenship to hold a Saint Lucia passport. He would have to do so though to escape US taxes. That said, that is also a complicated endeavor as the US doesn't allow you to just walk away. You WILL have tax liability to deal with during the process.
To avoid paying taxes in the US. If I renounce my citizenship, I will pay 0% taxes on capital gains. I make my living trading stock options and the premiums I get paid are short term capital gains…taxed the same as income. There is an exit tax to leave. Also, the US is the only country to charge a fee for filing 🤔over $2K….after that, I believe I have to pay 24% tax on everything over $2 Million USD

The PI is better for those over 60 with average wealth and average looks. There's too much competition in Thailand if you want a relationship. Your only choice will be with 40+ hardened prostitutes. If you want to be a bachelor, then Thailand is better. Another problem with Thailand is that the last thing you want to be doing is visa runs when you are over 60.
I am over 60 and have never done a visa run my agent just does a yearly renewal and I have never spent more than 5 minutes in a immigration office here and as far as relationships I don't deal with bar girls or prostitutes and I have had no problem finding girls to date
Kevin I’ve never been to the Philippines but have been going to Thailand for 10 years now. My wife is Thai. I would never live anywhere else but Thailand. Great infrastructure, great people, cheap living on the beach. Next time you go, try Hua Hin. Loads of retirees, better beaches, and if your living would be at least 25% less than Jomtien. Less people from Jomtien. Don’t know if that’s a plus or not. I’d retire in a heartbeat in Hua Hin, Jomtien, bkk. Probably wouldn’t go to Phuket. Much more expensive. Good luck!

Even if you can speak no other words of Thai, most European and American visitors to Thailand will quickly become familiar with the Thai word farang (often mispronounced (even by Thais) as falang - farang with a slightly trilled 'r' is the correct pronunciation.) It's basically used to describe caucasians, though African-Americans will sometimes also be known as farang or as farang dam ('black farang'). Farang is also the Thai word for the guava fruit, so you can expect to hear farang eating farang 'jokes' if you happen to purchase any.

Only a 20 min ferry ride or 10 minute Jet boat ride. I'm going to spend a few days there next time I visit. Not much of a night life but great to relax ❤ Maybe take a fishing trip 😀
Great video Mark!!!! Kevin is a great guy!!!! 2 thumbs up my friend!!!!
Thanks man!!!

Great interview Mark thanks
Thank you for watching ☺️
Hey guys, you can get a retirement visa if you’re 50 years or older there and it’s really easy to get it once you’re in the country hire an agent and he guarantees you will get it and it’ll cost you about ฿50,000 if you hire an agent to do it
Last November I paid my agent in Jomtien 30000 baht for the non-o retirement visa which actually lasts for 15 months.
@@lkabong5529 hello if you don’t mind telling me who was your agent and how can we contact him?
I liked this interview but i need to mention that i live the last 7 years in Pattaya and it is actually much more a retirement Village than all the red light - Walking street scene.
Hopefully the next time i am in Dumaguete and can catch up with you Mark and give you much more inside to Pattaya - Thailand life.
BTW,
Age gap relationships in Thailand is - half your age + 7. 😀

If you surrender citizenship, there is an exit tax of paying all the capital gains on assets, as if they were sold. Unless assets at the time are under $2M.
That is correct!!!! Well worth it to be tax free FOREVER though 😉

The American dream is dead, it's now the American survivaI.
So sad 😞
Every country has its own unique advantages and disadvantages. It's your life you can do whatever you want to do with your fucking life.

there are countless older men with very young Thai women in Thailand .. but 99% of that you see is exclusively a p4p transactional agreement .. as an older man ie 60+ you CAN get a much younger woman but you have to live there permanently and it might take you a long time to meet a 'non-working' younger woman .. it WILL be difficult tho to get a gorgeous 20 somethingb/early 30s non p4p girl if you're old .. especially if you're unattractive ie overweight .. poor grooming etc etc

Thailand is thriving and modernized. Once you compare the two countries, it’s no comparison for quality of life. Also the real estate transactions are so much easier! You get title the day you close.

Not sure why Kevin think he has to give up his US Citizenship. Search for Dual Citizenship and Saint Lucia. and you'll find "Saint Lucia recognises dual citizenship so you can retain your current nationality."
And, it is perfectly legal for a US Citizen to also be a dually.
