New Floyd Rose FRX Retrofitting Tremolo Instructions

- Years in the making, the Floyd Rose FRX Tremolo System has finally been approved and manufactured! This is the official instructional video, where Floyd himself guides you through the installation and possible set-up variations of this revolutionary system. The FRX is designed to retrofit Gibson-style guitars, and comes with both standard and metric posts to retrofit both Gibson and Epiphone guitars, along with many other guitar brands that utilize the Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece combo. The bridge can be easily set up blocked (EVH style), fully floating and a new variation called “assisted floating” for better tuning stability than ever before on a floating Floyd Rose system. No routing is required, only two small wood screws are necessary to mount the FRX locking nut behind your guitar’s existing nut!
Thanks for watching, and feel free to contact support@floydrose.com with any questions!
If you would like to be one of the first guitarists to pre-order and receive this system, pre-order directly from FloydRose.com!
11:50 ! Even the CREATOR of these damn bridges forgets to use the fine tuners
Supposedly the Gentleman from ' 'Coherent Sound and Light' Licensed the Idea to Mr Floyd Rose'_4 Decades Ago (Heard it in a Namm Interview) 🎸
@@spiritzweispirit1st638 it was actually Eddie Van Halen that came up with fine tuners.
A tutorial created by the creator- It doesn't get any better than this. I crave as much information on any given subject or procedure as I can possibly get, and this video certainly delivers. Outstanding Mr. Rose. This cemented my decision to buy one of these for my next build.
This guy reminds me of that teacher that starts tellin' a story and before you know it, school's over, you're single again and the police are looking for you in 5 different states
+Cristian Popa HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA good one ...
Thats REALLY FUCKIN' FUNNY!!! Good job!!!
I don’t get it
@@mineguitarerer Me neither
That made no sense but it was funny as hell
I found it funny when he said "Hi, i'm Floyd Rose". I mean, i'm so used to hear "I have Floyd Rose on my guitar" my whole live that it's weird to actually hear guy come up and say "I'm [the] FR".
LOL I thought the same!
Had to laugh at 11:45 when Floyd himself started to tune with the headstock tuners...LOL.... I expect that from 'non-Floyd' players but caught me by surprise on this video...
This is definitely a design flow
Funny as hell! Maybe he was stoned when he made the video (:D
pretty obvious the locking nuts were not locket yet
They nut wasn’t locked yet
The man himself probably hates his own design. Lmao
Holy shit! Floyd Rose... Is a guy!?
No shit sherlock
DUH what kind of dumbass parent would name their little girl Floyd?!?!
MrJv123jv yes and he was in a band Q5 www.metal-archives.com/bands/Q5/1449
BullSpit maybe he thought its a pure brand name..
LechQuem What chick do you know named Floyd?
Huh, I was considering finding a floating trem for my SG just a few hours ago with a friend. This may be a sign. Good job Mr Rose.
Really surprised that something like this didn't come out sooner! Brilliant idea, FR!!
I had the surface mount Floyd trem that was made in the 80s on my Les Paul. I really hope these are made far better than those. They sounded like a tin can and broke within a month with light use. I've always been a Floyd fan otherwise. The F.R. trem was one of the single greatest contributions and innovations to the instrument ever. It changed entire genres of rock playing. Thanks you for all of that.
It's like being lectured on General Relativity from Einstein himself
I love the 'it's a problem if you drill through the head stock." I'm guessing there are people who don't wrap a piece of tape around the drill bit to guide the depth, but they probably aren't trying to install one of these on a $1000+ guitar. You usually only do that once...
The laugh says he learnt that the hard way.
He was probably thinking of EVH :)
Thank you, Floyd, for this demo. Splendid work. I love your design of the original and this FRX takes it up a notch.
I LOVE that you went to the tuning peg after you'd set the clamp.
You are human ;)
Robert Swanson
Thank you for personally creating this tutorial. I’m going to consider this for upcoming builds (and one of my own guitars first :) . You truly care about your products, that is evident.
I just ordered one of these! Thank you FR for helping me keep my guitars in tune all these years
I finished my build on a LTD Viper-400 and installed the FRX and this trem is the BEST tremolo system I have ever played,I had to tweek some adjustments and just use it for diving and this is incredibly smooth, with a quick allen wrench adjustment you can control the tension on the downward force,I just sold my Epiphone with a regular trem and this is a keeper,by far the very best trem I have ever played, thanks Mr. Rose.
Kinda takes a shit on Gibson's robot tuners doesn't it.
Gibson's robot tuners took a shit on Gibson's robot tuners...
You mean the tuners that aren't even made by Gibson, but a rebrand of Tronical tuners?
It's good to know that,I've got a Tone Pros bridge on my 339,will that be a good match with the F.R lock nut?
Respect my Brother.robot tunings for robots.lol
actually I own both bridges and though it has its quirks, overall I prefer the Tronical tuners
Great design. Floyd Rose Tremelo systems ROCK! Thanks for helping me over the years.
13:05 He has already accidentally gouged a small hole through the paint with the allen wrench.
Thank you sooo much Mr Rose for the greatest tremelo system the planet has ever seen. There is NO equal. All my tremelo guitars are equipped with Floyd Rose originals. 15 in all, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
🙏🏼🤘
Hell Yes I just bought a new Gibson SG and I just seen this so I ordered it I can't wait to put it on my new guitar I am so Stoked I always wanted a SG with a Floyd👍 God Bless Floyd Rose 👍🇺🇲😎
I love my Floyd Rose equipped guitars, but I really wish setting the intonation was easier (original Floyd).
they have a product now called "hollow points" that makes intonation as easy as with a tune-o-matic system. go check their website for it.
@@TheWolvesCurse idk about as easy (yes I own some) but definetly WAY easier than setting them by hand.
Great video always nice to see the guy who made the part showing you how to install it thanks for the video!!
Well worth the wait. Took a couple of hours to retrofit to my 78 Les Paul Standard. Had to watch sections of the Video over to get the finer points dialed in. Fine tweeking the next day made it 100%.
Well done! Finally some very good explanations, the best on the internet. a big thank-you.
Great instructional video, just bought one and can't wait to get it on and set up. I hope it's worth it!
Man this is great for LP/sg and the many copies. I will have one of these, I am a huge supporter of Floyd Rose.
Thank you for all you did/do to influence the music! :)
Very nicely done, Floyd! I Love your Trems!
I’m obviously late to the game but man I sure dig the FRX. The stability and the looks are off the charts.
Thanks Mr. Rose for the design.
Legend. I am certain he doesn't need the $ but still inventing and giving online tutorials. I think he should post videos of his EVH stories. This is a truly awesome invention. I love a floyd just for tuning stability. My music room is humidity controlled so I can tune a guitar, lock my floyd, pick up a month later and still in tune.
awesome. love the adjustments you can make can't wait to see the Rail Tail in 2016
this is so awsome i'd totally replace my old FR with this one. great job!!!
Will this work on a hello kitty acoustic guitar?
No way would I modify a Hello Kitty guitar and mess with the value.
Hello kitty acoustics are best modified by adding a pickup, then running them through a korg miku, and then two boss metal zones
my congratulations for you Floyd from Brazil thi's a great invention for all guitarists of the world.
The man the myth himself! The EVH family and many more owe you a debt of gratitude sir!
The man, the legend. I'm getting one to put on my Les Paul. Thanks AGAIN, FR!
Just ordered mine. Can't wait for it to arrive!
I am traditional in my visual tastes for a trem (Fender, 6 screw or 2 point) and have stayed away from Floyds. but this unit really is a solid option for stoptail guitars! Kudos Floyd Rose!
Man the first Floyd Rose I can really say "I wont mind to put one on my guitars!". And the idea of the up locking, was THE thing missing for making them perfect for me :-)
At 5:06 I'm interested in seeing how you set the intonation, since it appears to be one hell of a monster feat to accomplish.
I think this is a very, very important step that should not have been skipped.
It looks like it's the same as the original floyd rose bridge. You have to slack the string, loosen the nut with an allen key, nudge it a bit in the right direction, tighten everything back up and repeat with every string. Once you get it set up though you don't need to adjust it again unless you change string gauges or tunings. Hope this helped
Excellent! I was waiting for you to plug in and wail though!
11'53", Floyd Rose himself reaches for a headstock tuner after the nut is locked. Glad to see we all do this from time to time, even the inventor :) Looks like a great product though, very tempted to drop the money and try one.
MG! Floyd Rose himself! pleased to meet you man!
Good on you Floyd. I love your bridges.
Mr Floyd Rose, you're a genius!! Ty for all !!
I love my 2016 limited edition Gibson SG Black , came factory with FRX ! It's now 2022 and I still have it mint ! Only 4 ever sold on the net since 2016 ! 4 more years and I'll let it go tor the fat cash !
Floyd is a friggin' genius. I sent him my first guitar in 1980. Since he has been on the cutting edge of innovation. So all you others shut TFU.
Lighten up, Francis.
Aww you made Gary Kahler cry
2 years on and no one gives a shit, Thom.
@@gmmakesmehurl You seriously came back after two years just to insults this, that's pretty low
@@morrigan7066 I love irony.
I recently bought one of these Floyd Rose FRX trems to install on my 2013 Gibson USA Les Paul Studio, so I go through the installation instructions step-by-step, checking three times in a row that I had done everything right, and found that it didn't work anything like it was supposed to, strings still kept going out of tune all the time, even after stretching the strings in, setting the action right, the intonation right, locking the strings down right, etc, the strings randomly went sharp or flat, even after adjusting the fine tuners, and adjusting the spring tension right, it also wouldn't flutter like conventional Floyd Rose trems do, finally gave up on it after breaking three strings in a row.
Years ago I bought the Original Floyd for Les Pauls. A big hunk of metal that stayed intune, but was not really comfy. Stiff and just ended up using parts from it for other floyds. That thing was nfg. I have bought so many Floyds over the years (I have dozens of em)- loyal customer/user.
I bought one of these for a guitar I built for last years Great Guitar Build Off that Crimson Guitars held. Sadly I set my neck a hair to deep into the body and the FRX would not go low enough to get a decent action. I did however use it on my BC Rich Mockingbird and it went on and set up easily enough although getting that ball thingy dialed in is quite the trick. There is not a lot of room for error with that step. Took FOREVER to dial it in where it would reliably return to center. I just restrung it and it is off just a hair again which is what reminded me about that. Over all Its a nice setup. A tad pricey but a brothers gotta make a buck. It does add a chunk o weight to your guitar but on a good note it helped greatly with the Mockingbirds tendency to neck dive.
Seems labor intensive but works great! I tried one at namm in 2016 on an sg standard and it was amazing
Seeing Floyd Rose making this product available gives me hope for owning and playing Gibson guitars. Just add the Floyd Rose FRX and some DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers to upgrade that Gibson to something that I can deal with. Thank you Floyd Rose.
Amazing, I love that SG, I just nearly bought one the same? I wouldn't probably fit this trem system to a higher end Gibson, but to something like a studio, or special, definitely! M
Floyd, you're a genius!
please make one for 7 string guitars !!! I'd love this upgrade on my ESP Stephen Carpenter baritone 7...
HI FLOYD!!! NICE TO SEE YOU
Not to bore us with the most important part. Setting it up! lmao.
I love the original Floyd Rose bridge.
My store got the part! My guitar is repaired thanks!!
I like just putting the bridge on and skipping the locking nut. Get locking tuners and you're set, Gotoh makes a locking tuner that looks just like the Gibson stock tuners and I've tried them all, Gotoh makes the best hardware. A cool thing about this system is if you want to put your fixed bridge back on for recording rhythm work you can for maximum tone. This is a nice system
I’m definitely adding this to my Epiphone SG
I'm definitely going to get this for my Les Paul ! 👀
I just learned this exists.... DAAAAAAAAMN. awesome.
Very nice!
Nice to see Floyd , the trem looks beautiful , I'd be worried about drilling holes in a Gibson headstock though, I wonder how well it would work with a string Butler instead of a locking nut??
I was hopeful and Tried that. It’s a no go…
1. The break angle on the headstock creates unstable tuning
2. The Nut takes a beating with the strings grinding on it.
Hey Floyd can you please make more left hand systems. There is no left hand FRX sets anywhere. Love the Floyd.
I love Floyd Rose tremelos. they are the best on the market. Only the FR trems has the floppy string dive bombs that come back in tune. I dont like any other trems but the Floyd Rose.
Floyd dropping the wrench to a Floyd Rose trem on the ground is a mood
That is awesome!
Have built with Vega Trem and Babicz … love to mod my long board stats and teles to take this vs a full route…
I need that tremolo on my SG And I'm going to set it up to floating mode
AWESOME Floyd! You should do a TRX for the Custom 24 regular trem to convert. I'm talking about the one with 6 bolts (pivots)... for those guys (like me) who bought a PRS before it actually had a FR and a recesed cavity. PRS trem is very good, yet not so versatile as the Floyd. Nut looks like it could be very similar to these for Gibson. Would that be something you would consider? I would buy one for sure!!! Thanks. Great video. Cheers!
i'm not sure about drilling my sg... how about scenario when floyd rose bridge part mixed with schaller locking tuner? it's still going to work?
I like the nut setup
Clever stuff. Wonder if it would work not drilling to install the locking nut and just having locking tuners? I guess so, but maybe not as well for heavy dive bombing etc.
Floyd that is fucking genius man!! Take a bow mate. A+. I love it!!
Tbh I am very excited about this. Planning on modding a cheap Flying V (basically bought for the body + neck) and this is the first thing I look to buy. /,,/
No Amp?... com on man! we want to hear it cranked up! ♫
Floyd can't afford it LoL
Just genious. 20 minutes of tuning the guitar and NO ONE word about tuning the measure. I wasted about an hour trying to find dat damn screw.
Floyd Rose tremolos are great but the best tremolo system I have ever used was the Washburn Wonderbar system. The only problem is they don't make them anymore.
Agreed. I had it on an A20V back in the early 80's that got stolen as well as on my RR 11v I STILL own to this day and it works as good as day one as long as you are diligent with cleaning it. I have seen some where they have worn thru the finish and the mechanism is so gunked up it barely moves at all let a lone returns in tune.
Sg with whammy bar that looks cool well done
The sistem is great! Is it also to be installed on an epiphone explorer guitar?
Thanks for the tuning tips on locking and temp occurrences. I play hard metal, and want one on my iommi signature guitar. I already sanded my pickup rings to match the strings. Can I run the same action with this tremelo. Would only consider a Floyd Rose. Thanks
Is there anyway to put a d-tuna on these? I believe with a much longer screw and spring along with the tuner switch or just slightly shorter than the original screw it almost makes it in the open space you have if the tension can be adjusted properly. It sure is cool for sure but I am always going back and forth and sometimes in the same song. LOVE IT!!!!! I have my second one on order. Thanks
Wow all these years
Question: When setup in full floating mode, will the FRX hit to painted are of the body and cause damage?
Practicing this set up will take as much time as learning basic chords & strumming
Cool man wish I had one.
Great idea, but I would be more interested in a trem that mounts the same, but less bulky, and works with locking tuners instead of a locking nut.
Wow, it is a great improvement. Do you will manufacture 7 strings and leftys vertions of that bridge?
I am wondering if this will work on a esp or ltd guitar with tune o matic bridge? will the head stock part fit?
and what about a baritone guitar? thank you so much:D
What adjustments are needed for slack tuning?
And, if locking type tuning pegs and a graphite nut are used instead of the FTX supplied locking nut will the instrument have stable tuning?
My low E string saddle rides visibly lower than the rest and buzzes on all frets. The rest are at perfect height. Is it adjustable?
Will the height adjustment studs leave permanent marks in the guitars finish? this could affect resale value with original hardware. ( not excluding the screw holes in the headstock)
Ooopss u did'it again... U are a genious sr.😎
I can't wait for a 12 string Floyd rose bridge
wow!! I hope that we have that here in the Philippines. :)
Dear Mr. Rose - is there a possible variation of this you could develop that would retrofit old Kahlers? There are so many classic 80's guitars w/ Kahlers that could have new life with Floyds. Pls pls pls.
I want one on my explorer now
;)
