    Hey man, thank you very much for the advice. You're the only person on RUclips discussing this transmission jittering issue with Honda pilots. About 2 months ago, I was on the market for 2017-2020 Honda pilots, 6-speed ones. I test-drove about 6 cars, and 4 of them had some sort of transmission jittering issue. One of them was so bad that I had to stop driving because the salesperson thought something was wrong with the car. Only 2 were without problems and they were both at the Honda Dealership where I'm assuming they have changed the fluid because those cars had to be certified. I bought one from Rick Case Hyundai/ Genesis/ Kia/Audi dealership in Duluth, Georgia, and it had the same issue. I felt the jittering at low-speed gear shifting but I still ended up buying the car because they gave me 10 years 100k, engine, transmission, and drive-axle warranty and it had a very clean interior. After driving for a few hundred miles, the jittering issue started irritating me. So I followed your advice to drain-fill it three times (I wanted to do three but I only had 8 bottles of DW-1, Honda Genuine trans fluid, so I've only done two times), and man, I'm telling you, the transmission felt so much better right away. I say, 90% of the jittering was gone. It had 65K miles at the time, and I'm guessing the previous owner never changed the trans fluid because the fluid was soo dark and the magnetic drain plug had so much black thick tar-like stuff on it. I've driven about 8K miles after those flushes and now I want to do another flush. Hope it fixes the very little jittering that's left in it. I've changed the oil once already and going to do one very soon. I'm a bit worried that the previous owner might not have taken care of it well because I do not see much carfax service/oil change history on it. It had a clogged windshield wiper fluid reservoir filter because the blue wiper fluid it had in the reservoir broke down and created a thick blue slushy. The fluid pump came out of the reservoir socket, I'm guessing because the water could not pass through the filter. I took it to my local Honda dealership and they said the whole reservoir and the pump need to be replaced and it's $490 total. I thought that was excessive, so I decided to buy an aftermarket reservoir and motor for $50 and change it myself. When I took the wheel cover off to inspect, I found out that the fluid pump is running but it popped out of the socket. I was not able to take the whole reservoir off because it would require me to take the front bumper off, and I felt it was not worth it. Kinda frustrating that Honda put the reservoir bolts in out-of-view places. I was able to clean the filter and everything, and ran water through the reservoir and the fluid pump several times; man there was soo much of that thick blue slushy. On second thought, I'm thinking somebody might've put 100% thick anti-freeze coolant in it because they put water in it before and it froze and when the ice expanded, the pump got pushed out and I'm guessing they put pure anti-freeze hoping to melt the water. I'm glad to say, it is fully working now after I've cleaned it and put it back in place. One problem I have now is that I hear the wheel-bearing type of noise. Took it to the dealer and they said they were not able to diagnose it as bad wheel bearings. I very much hear the noise when I'm turning or just driving on a nice curvy road. Would you be able to think of any other issues that could cause that noise? I have KUMO tires on and they seem to be in a good condition. The front brake pads are still good and I have not checked the rear brake pads yet. I once had a wheel bearing problem on my 2012 Honda accord and a local mechanic shop changed the wrong wheel bearing. They thought it was the front left but it ended up being the front right wheel. He made me buy the whole wheel hub assembly because it was cheaper to buy that and install it than to change just the bearing. I was disappointed that they've done this so I rented a wheel bearing tool from Orileys and changed just the other bearing myself. After these incidents, I find it hard to believe a mechanic if he just wants to replace parts without doing much diagnostics. Again, thanks for your videos. Now I know what to look for if these common issues occur to me; and thank you very much for reading my rant. Hope you continue making videos on Hondas.

    • @BCautosutions
      @BCautosutions  Год назад +2

      Hey man thanks for your much in depth comment.
      Yes do the trans service 1-2 more times and then every 15k going forward. This should help tremendously.
      Unfortunately when buying used cars shitty previous owner maintenance is always a concern but do what you can now going forward.
      As far as the noise I would take a very close look at the tires for culling (highs and lows on tires specifically on the inner part of the tire), very common on those and the only solution I have been able to reduce that is rotate tires very frequently.
      Let me know how it goes and thanks again.

    Good to know. In addition if you have an AWD with the ZF 9 speed the ONLY way to put it in neutral manually is to have a tool that turns a little shaft on top of the trans and holds in the neutral position. Its spring loaded so the tool has to stay in place should your car ever have to be winched up onto the tow truck. Honda sells their own tool ($$) or if your like me I made my own. It consists of a handle that stays on the shaft and a pin that is dropped into the end of the handle to hold it in place. I also have a $12 circuit that disables the auto stop/start feature..:)

    I have a 2022 SE, but I didn't hear anything about transmission issues. My 9-speed is absolutely terrible. You never know what each gear shift is going to do. Sometimes it is buttery smooth, then the next one will be like a hard sport shift. When coming to a stop, the downshifts feel like someone is hitting the brakes multiple times as it downshifts to each lower gear. And once you are moving, the throttle response is like an on/off switch and goes from 0 to 15% so there is absolutely no way to press on the gas without feeling the car move forward. My wife yells at me that I'm making her sick when I'm trying to maintain 40 MPH because every time the throttle is pushed or released you can feel it in the car. I have driven nothing but Hondas since 1997, but I think I just bought my last one.
    I do appreciate the video though, because now I know what to look out for.

    I’ve got Honda care warranty eight years/120 thousand miles . I was wondering if I could have you work on it, are you at a Honda dealership?
    Intermittently car runs rough throws itself into neutral, and finally stalls, it would start right back up but lately it’s been doing it more often at least twice a day and all it does is just cranks at least four or five cycles before it decides to start again
    Edit: Honda got involved and it ended up being an EGR valve. Odd thing is it never set off a code or a check engine light. Fingers crossed the repair sticks.

      @@BCautosutions it surprised me as well. I bought it brand new and when I took it to the dealer for its 2 year inspection they noticed an oil leak. First they thought it was an engine leak, then a transmission leak. After a tear down of the transmission, it was determined to be the head gasket. After waiting 3 months for the part to come in because it back ordered, I was told it couldn't be installed because there were pits and scratches in the engine cylinder. WTH?? My service advisor kept telling me I was getting a whole new engine (under warranty) but after I showed a few people the notes on my receipt they said it was just an overhaul. I am very disappointed by this. And I know it wasn't the dealers fault but I'm pissed that no one could offer me any explanation as to why this happened on a NEW car. This is probably the last Pilot I will purchase.

    I just had the front head assembly replaced in my 2019 Pilot EXL. Transmission fluid drain and fills are such a rip-off, way worse than an oil change. Changing ATF is easier than changing oil. Your fluid is $50-$80 depending on where you live. Pop the drain plug, drain, replace crush washer, refill through the dipstick holder with a little funnel and a longer one. You don’t have to change the filter. Save yourself $100-150 if you have a 3/8 ratchet, ramps and a little kitchen funnel.

      All valid points. I’m on the 3rd set of rotor pads, 15-20k and they start causing vibrations. Transmission, been doing ATF d&f every 10k, also had to install the ATF cooler to lower running temps. VCM muzzler is a must, totally changes how the car drives and tranny fluid doesn’t get burnt as fast. Compliance bushings on the front control arms start tearing at 30-40k mark.
