I have a 2019 Pilot Elite, nine speed transmission, 30,000 miles. I’ve had some of the recalls mentioned. I’m retired and drive mostly to Church and for pleasure. The Pilot has been great and gives a level of security in Minnesota winters. 22 mpg city and 26 Hwy.
The 2004 is a different engine the 2017 to 22 earth dreams ,your generation that engine is incredible my friend hit 390k and still going strong zero issues regular maintenance.I'm not sure 2017 and up will be as good as your generation car.i love my 2020 exl zero issues but I don't see it reaching 200k without issues
I have a 2018 exl. We’ve had no problems so far. 80,000 miles. I change oil every 3,000 with mobile one and Honda filters. Changed tranny fluid at 30,000. This is the best handling vehicle I’ve ever driven and we love it. BUT this vehicle has a direct injected engine which carbons up the injectors if you do a lot of short distance driving and don’t maintain the oil. People have had to replace the injectors with 30,000 miles. Thankfully there is a TSB which extends coverage on the injectors for 10 yrs. Or 150,000 miles. We drive mostly highway miles so we’ve been lucky.
I have a Pilot with 160k miles. I do one drain and fill (about three quarts) on the transmission every other oil change, so about every 10k miles. It still shifts like new.
Yup!!!!! i do one every oil change at 7.5k miles since the car yells for oil at 10k /0%left. And trans calls for 30k. I change oil at 30% and trans holds around 12qt so that should do it!!!🤞
@@MichaelLee-yh7ss with 170k miles now and the trans shifts like new, I have to disagree. The trans holds 9 quarts, so and since a drain and fill only charges three quarts, it is not excessive.
@@brianaustin1328 hey. Your car. But tranny fluid needs to be done 50-100k depending on how hard you drive your car. I flushed mine out and cleaned the pan, changed trans filter and I'm good for a long long time.
Wow that's nice. Is your 6 speed or 9? I'm thinking of buying used 2019 exl with only 40k miles. Would you recommend it over the 9 speed in your opinion ?
2017 Elite AWD here with about 75k miles. I use it for everything, including shenanigans. Never had any issues with any recalls, just a bad battery after 5 years and quickly-expended brake pads during the first year of ownership due to setting the auto-brake distance to high. Sound system is pretty good and can really handle a load when you turn it up. I am yet to blow out the speakers. I've driven cross country, sometimes while towing a U-haul, another time a small car. No issues, so long as you don't use ACC or cruise control. I've pushed high 4/low 5 seconds 0-60 in Sport Manual on a newly laid road. The ATF cooler helps a lot. The only issue is that it feels very clunky when going into reverse, but that's only an issue on the 9- and 10-speeds. Sand mode + wet pavement is a potent combo for fun sliding. I still get about 20 mpg with everything factored in and about 27-28 mpg over some long haul trips. Let the car take a breather on extremely hot days lest you cook the blindspot monitoring sensors, the transmission, and the idle-stop system. After parking in my driveway at the end of a very hot day of last-minute shopping before hosting relatives, the transmission put it self into neutral and the engine idle-revved to 8000 rpm until I manually shut it off. 30 minutes of cooling and all systems were back, but the idle-stop system took over a month to work right again.
I have the 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. I bought it used at 44900 miles about a month after I bought it I got a transmission code which is a nuissance code. A sensor code on my torque converter. If I shut my car off it goes away, may not come back on for two weeks. I change my tranny fluid every 30,000 miles at Honda (too old to crawl under and do myself anymore). I have the towing pkg and rated for 5000 pounds. Most I tow is about 1000 pounds and can't see suspension holding 5k. No problems wirh infotainment except Andoid auto just stopped working. Never buy Honda again. Just replaced timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt (all one service) at Honda at 110,000 miles. Great video.
I have a 2019 Honda PIlot and have had no issues with it. I did get some recall notice about the fuel pump, but it was minimal disruption and they gave me a loaner Civic for the day with 50 KMs on it while the Pilot got fixed. It's been great to drive.
I have a 2005 Honda pilot 290,000 Miles still drives like new and kept it bought my wife a 2023 Honda Pilot she loves it it’s a fantastic SUV the best in its class V6 Naturally aspirated engine No turbo so the engine will last long till less stress on engine components for sure .
2019 Pilot EX AWD purchased new in July, 2019. Had the fuel issue (eventually resulted in a recall) that caused a broken valve after 4 weeks (around August 1, 2019). Repaired by the local Honda dealer, no issues since then, although the engine sounds like it's going to explode above 4500 RPM. As of Nov. 2019, 32500 miles. Pretty good vehicle overall. On long highway trips I get about 28mpg, but around town (suburbs) I'm lucky to get 15mpg. That's what traffic lights and stop signs will do for you!
We have an '18 model Pilot with the 6 speed. Have done 3 drain and fills in 50k miles. (one double) I used the Valvoline "universal" fluid at one point and the transmission started doing strange shifts and hesitations on startup (occasionally).. I then went back to the Honda fluid and these went away. The Honda fluid is $8 quart but well worth it. It even smells alot different than the Valvoline, almost a "sweet" smell so there's got to be additional additives in the Honda fluid. I plan to keep doing a drain and fills at 13-15k intervals max. I think a flush might be good every second or third change, but I haven't decided yet. The brakes on this thing are amazing, barely any wear in 50k miles. They use a "rebound" spring that helps alot I think. Also I bought another wheel to mount a full sized spare and it fits just fine underneath in the rear where the spare goes. Peace of mind on late night/weekend trips. May have affected headlight aim, I should check that!! Also we had the factory hitch installed, which I believe included a transmission cooler? (correct me if I'm wrong) We don't really do any towing, just mount a bike rack, but I thought the extra trans cooling would be good to have..
very thorough. As a 2021 Pilot owner I can say some of these issues have been resolved, but many still persist. I'm really hoping there's a powertrain and infotainment upgrade with the new 2023 model.
Wasn’t a update. I was told by my dealership they had to replace the wire because it was a pitch in the system the way the dash and A pillar was installed. Feel sorry for that person doing the install at the production plant 😂
I have 59K on my 2017 version. Had 1 recall notice, but it runs great and gets 33-35 mph in the summer on the highway. Gotta drive these things w a light foot - it isn’t a truck.
Toyota V-6 engines get severe timing cover leaks and need to be removed from the car to fix it - cost over $3K. Water pumps are also difficult to change. By using a timing belt designed to be changed without removing the engine, you take care of everything at that interval.
I’ve got 2 Toyota’s with the 3.5L V6. Both have over 200k miles. Neither of them have timing cover leaks; or any oil leaks for that matter. I’ve also owned 2 Tundras and a Tacoma. The first Tundra I sold with 268,000mi. The Tacoma was sold sold with 200,000 mi. My current Tundra has 170,000mi. No oil leaks on any of them either. The most I’ve ever had to repair on any of my cars outside of regular maintenance was a water pump on the Tacoma and a blower motor on my wife’s Venza.

I bought a 2008 Pilot in 2001 ($5,000)..GREAT car..It's been 3 years. I just put new tires on it (Uniroyals)...I expect it to go another 200,000 miles..I am going to give it to our daughter next year, when I get a new car..They would not give me the value on a trade in--This car is awesome and I intend to keep it in the family..
After reading all the comments about this model, we decided to get a different make and model. Videos like these make me happy that we did because ours has been perfect so far. Still, I am looking to see what the 2023 Honda Pilot has to offer, and might try that version of the Pilot. Fingers crossed...
I just got a 2019 with 45k on it for my family. Every honda I have owned has lasted forever. I had no idea honda quality has taken a hit. I really hope my pilot doesn't have longevity issues...
I’ve changed the transmission fluid several times, and that works. But, the infotainment system is garbage. Pops and crackles. Honda has given up on fixing it.

I just had the front head assembly replaced in my 2019 Pilot EXL. It was really just the camshaft, but since that part was on national backorder and my Pilot was still under powertrain warranty at less than 50K miles, they replaced the entire head assembly because they could get that part sooner. This will probably be the last Honda I ever buy.
Gulp. That sounds like a problem that shouldn’t happen until we’ll over 200k miles. I just ticked over 60k and am always wondering what the next problem will be.
I replaced my Honda CRV Timing belt on my 100,000 service , it wasnt needed , but was done as precautionary for later. Cost $ 300.00 Im at 112,000 wit the 2012 CRV , and the only problems i've had with it has been a replaced front axle at 60,000 Miles for slippage at high speeds . It was just out of warranty and cost me a cool ( 2k $$$$ Cha-ching) . I'm here comparing for a pilot ....as my next vehicle .
I own a Honda Pilot 2019, I have changed full pump, it makes a weird noise before and poor pick up! My CD player is not working! He is point on! Only reason am keeping the car is it’s paid off!
That is what I really wanted 2015 Honda Pilot Touring. My Husband on the other hand didn't like the beefy look . I loved it. The running boards roof rack black wheels white body and black interior. I wanted to have it lifted and better tires. He said No😢. I got the 2016 Honda Pilot ex $16k with 126k miles. To me it is such a soccer mom vehicle and yes we needed a vehicle for our family vacation for we need 8 seater. I can't take this on the beach or in the mud😢 We still have to take our Tundra for me to have fun 😂
I have a 2019 EXL. I haven't had any issues. I have S-VCM installed so hopefully no issues with my engine. I wouldn't trade my 6 speed for the 9 speed any day! As for tires, OEM tires are always garbage. They're not as good as the actual brand if you bought it from a tire shop. I'm running Geolander A/T and they're awesome. Great car so far at 62k miles. Possibly going for the new 2023, but unsure.

If you towing, you need to install transmission cooler The timing belt is not that bad . Serviced J series at 120k still look new. It's costs less than a set of tires so I am not sure what the big fuss is about.
Fuss is dealer wants at less 1k to chnge it i think! and the trans cooler is good idea even if not towing, send it though a cooler on the outside of the radiator then back through the radiator one for operating temp, if it uses the radiater style cooler.🤷
Thanks for sharing! Your video is very informative. I get about 23 mpg on the highway and 13 to 14 in the city. My pilot is the 2007 EXL 4WD no VCM 154k miles. I replaced the original timing belt water pump and all related parts at 146k miles with OEM parts. @ 148k miles I switched to valvoline Maxlife full synthetic AFT and the 5 speed transmission runs great at any speed. I took care of the transfer case and differential fluid too. In my case my 07 pilot has been nothing but ultra reliable, the only mayor repair was the Radiator at 149k miles due to a minor leak due to rust followed by rear coil springs, rotors, spark plugs, brakes and rear shocks everything else is still original. Hopefully the new 2023 pilot could finally be my upgrade if it’s done right. Otherwise I see myself driving a Toyota 4Runner in the future.
Own a 2007 with 165k miles (car is a beast), and a 2016 Elite that I'm not as happy with. My main complaint is the infotainment system with the same static problem. I'm not paying $1k for a new radio, for the past year I've been listening with a blue tooth speaker in the car.
2021 Pilot. Front end collision sensors suck, engine idle stall should be one and done not every time you start the car, 15k rear diff fluid change & 25k transmission fluid change very expensive(Honda recommended). Going back to a Mitsubishi Outlander, had a 2018 with 50K and nothing but oil changes. Just turned 50K on the Honda--> 2 transmission fluid changes at $300 a pop, 2 rear diff fluid changes at $200 each, new tires at 35K and 4 wheel alignment $1500. So at 50K I'm $2500 in routine maintenance for a vehicle that's $10K more expensive than the Outlander.
Wheel alignment is not necessary unless the car has been in a serious accident where suspension was involved, if steering ends/ rods are replaced, or very excessive wear on tires is noticed. Save your money and decline an alignment when at any tire shop or dealership it will be offered.
I have the same Pilot, EX-L 2019 with 79K. One set of tires, one set of brakes, oil and filter changes every 5K along with changing the tranny and rear diff fluid (2x)..... No issues and loving it. The only recall was for the hood latch that was fixed in 5 minutes. I just did a brake fluid flushing. Fuel milage on the highway at 68-70mph is 31, around town its 20-21
Both my pilot and my neighbors pilot A/C compressor went out at about 50k miles. I have to constantly change trans fluid and that’s not normal. Push button start recall change, injector recall, hood latch recall, I get 16mpg. Changed radiator, water pump and timing belt. I should of bought another Tahoe at this point. Less issues.
I have a 2019 exl 2 wheel drive, after about 3 months of use any dirt on the cable on phone will disrupt the head unit, the rear entertainment needs to be reset by shutting down the car when the sound or Wi-Fi fails. I do like the system for what it provides for the family on trips. I didn’t trust my 2016 touring after transmission issues. Random limp mode after hard acceleration getting on highways. I plan on keeping my 2019 exl for a long time also. I like the car mine jus hit 60k. Lots of highway driving. Change the brakes fluid also. Mine was quite dirty after 50k. I get 23.8 mpg for my driving. You’re not that far off.
We have the same issue with the infotainment system. Thanks for the tip about the brake fluid. I haven’t looked at it yet and will check it out this weekend.
i had the 2016 and it was horrible,same issue you mention i can't believe honda didn't fix those issues on newer models at 45k miles a had transmission problem, electric problem, hood problem ect.. it got total lost by huracan Ian whit the insurance money im going back with Toyota
Ting belt 50 bucks plus the 3.5hrs labor. $1500 is way too much. FYI timing belt is not a cheap way to manufacture an engine. There are benefits to belt vs. Chain. Mechanics prefer belts. The belt requires change at 100k miles. I guess people expect things to last forever.
To be fair many people, including myself, come from older, simpler models and just want the darn thing to drive with standard maintenance. Back days it was simpler but now, many people don’t realize that we are driving computers 😂😂😂 and they are here to stay and get even more complicated.
There’s a recall and I had a 3 month wait for my appointment which is tomorrow morning. Hopefully this fixes the crackling sound and the sudden disconnect of my phone.
Hood latch fuel pump was recalled every co has a recall free fix this is why I only buy base models half the crap they put on new vehicles aren't worth the money I ve got the 9 speed transmission on my ridgeline I love it.
Sadly the Honda J35 V6 enigine uses Timing Belt, part of its desing, however that is not the end of the world, just make sure to replace the belt when needed. I have a 2000 CR-V, its B20B engine uses timing belt, even a 2007 Hyundai Accent that I had used timing belt, just make sure to take a look at it every 30k miles and replace it along with the water pump and the tensioner.
Just noticed on my folks 2019 elite, tires look like they peeled out over thumbtacks. Tires have small chunks ripped out. I was thinking they werent UV treated or something similar. Then I look up recalls and see Continental tire recall for tires being over cured. Which got me looking online/youtube - brought me here. Crazy recalls. One recall for some parts not being fully welded. My dad got an alignment and then took it back and they redid it and it's still not right. Going to be on them about getting it total recalled/fully up to date on all recalls.
Any resolve with the alignment? We have a 2020 Pilot and have had a wheel alignment several times and is still not fully fixed, still drifts to the right.

I have a 2019 Honda pilot EXL front wheel drive transmission replaced at 43,000 miles and do with the soldering of the engine cause my engine mounts to be replaced again all engine mounts. Replace three times assist transmission has been replace experiencing Sutter when engaging in overdrive dealership refuse to change fuel pump, saying it was just a check on fuel pump at two different dealerships. Please do all of your service maintenance so they won’t owe Him turn down your warranty but I do have an extended warranty up to 110,000 miles just been great to replace my engine mounts on the third round again get all your fluids as he recommends change because they will turn down you want to if you do not have everything change also Kerlix parison right front brake caliper issues they replace my pass, but still doing the same issues. Please be aware of the dealership that you purchase from. Thank you.
I've had 4 Pilots. Latest is a 2018 model. TURN. OFF. YOUR. VCM. SYSTEM. using a VCM Muzzler or VCM Tuner2. This will stop the torque converter shudder, which will destroy the transmission - as it did on my 2018 model at 45k miles (still under warranty thank goodness). You will loose about 1/2mpg on the highway, but is it is very well worth it.
My Mom's 2019 Honda Pilot has had issues where it doesn't start sometimes and it has happened since it was first purchased in spring 2019. Dealer said sometimes it happens when vehicle isn't driven much. She hardly drives it (only 3,500 miles so far and it's 2022) and while the not-starting issue mostly disappeared, yesterday we were going to use it to cruise around and it wouldn't start. Needed a jump. No one has ever explained why an almost new vehicle would have issues starting. I'm thinking now it might need a new battery but anyone else seen/heard issues like this?
So, when I first bought this Pilot, I found a gps tracker hooked into the OBD plug. It was a fleet tracker that the dealership forgot had installed for another potential buyer. Anyway, this thing used some power. Also, if you are not taking long enough trips, the alternator never has a chance to fully charge the battery between uses. So, try to run the engine at least 10-15 minutes each time you use it. Finally, OEM batteries only last 3-5 years anyway, so it might be time for a new battery. Good luck!
@@Deelitee the lead plates get oxidation and/or the acid evaporates until the batteries eventually get weak. You could get more life out of one depending on weather.
I think they should of installed trans coolers from factory, i dont remember if it has the lower radiator style cooler, but installing one is a must to keep the atf temps down!!!!!
@@AdventureGearTV exactly! Money? Maybe. I'm sure those transmissions are already on the verge of running too hot already especially in summer just puttering around town. Loading the car down or towing anything for sure puts it over its temp range! Instead of getting the overpriced-ish one from OEM there are a few cheap options with good reviews on Amazon to be had for less than 50 bucks and are pretty easy to install if you are capable of removing the lower shield! I'm want to find a good laser temperature reader to see how efficient the one I have is at cooling the trans fluid temp!
Thanks for the informative video. Do you anticipate the 9 speed transmissions used by honda now are better than the 6 speeds used in 19/20? Given the timing belt concerns you mention (I had one break on my Odysee) would you recommend considering a Hylander instead of a Pilot? I'm considering buying one of these, not sure what the best choice is for 2022/23.
Hi, I’m not yet familiar with the 9 speed transmission, but those models have auto stop/start and that feature has had a lot of reliability issues stalling at lights. I would get a Highlander in the future.
I have a 2020 honda pilot exl 6 spd .stay away from the 9 spd.my other vehicle I was looking at was the highlander but it's a lot smaller then the pilot when I looked at it and 3rd row and captain chairs are a joke .my kids couldn't really fit in 3rd row and truck is tiny when 3rd row is up and headroom is smaller then pilot.the suspension in the 2020 highlander was much softer then the pilot. And highlander had old technology and no android auto in the xle leather model and the get up and go was less then the pilot also.my 2020 exl pilot with nav and res is great no issue what so ever besides the tires I tossed them at 28k bridgestone duelers worst tires on market 2nd honda with them and only got less then 30k .I went with michelin defenders living in Massachusetts.ive had no issues with infotainment system or injectors but I do run fuel injector cleaner in it regularly and I change the oil at 40% and fill up with 93 octone every other fill .I have 30k on my car
I have a Pilot with the 9 speed and a Ridgeline with 6 speed. There's a reason why they switched from 6 to the 9 speed on the Ridgeline. The 6 speed is trash.
I have a 2020 honda pilot with the 6 speed with 107k miles on it and no issues. My friend has a Odyssey van woth yhe ZF 9 speed transmission. She had the mapping issues with it when she bought it and Honda finally fixed those issues. She does the same job as me. We are medical couriers. She has 256k plus miles on her transmissions and no issues with it. I'm interested in seeing how long hers will last. We both drive a little over 8k a month. I'm going to trade my pilot in next spring and buy a Toyota Camry. Aisin makes some of the best transmissions in the world. You can never go wrong with the automatic and cvt transmissions in the Toyota. They are the longest lasting in the industry. Honda no longer uses the ZF9 in the new pilot. They use a in house 10 speed transmission that's also found in the 2.0 liter turbo Accords. I've seen some of those transmissions with 250k on them. It's relatively a newer transmission from Honda that came out in 2017.
You need a good battery for this vehicle especially if you use heated seats and steering wheel or if you have a dash cam... The auto engine off can weaken your battery with other accessories or heaters working and it will die at a fresh green light...
I have the 2017 Pilot EXL AWD, I have some infotainment issues, but biggest issue I had to date was water leaking in rear hatch. Got that resolved. Transmission has a bad sensor on torque converter which is annoying. Rear suspension is a shock which resides inside of rear spring so rear air bags can't be installed. Have you had any wet weather issues with your Falken tires? I was considering them but so a lot of bad reviews in wet weather.
Glad to watch your review on the 2019 honda Pilot EXL. i plan to buy a used one and ship it down to Nigeria to replace my current 2004 Honda Accord EXL. This Video has really give me much to look out for. My Question is: depending on the mileage on the one i buy, what and what checks/servicing/replacement do you advice i do over there(in the US) before shipping it down?
2017 Honda Pilot owner here. Make sure you check to see if the fuel injector replacement TSB doesn't affect your model year. Transmission seems like a week spot from off the lot. Seems even more iffy now despite fluid change.
We have a 2021 Special Edition with 80K miles. We love it. Only regular maintenance. And still getting around 24mpg. And yeah, I think the static issue with the speakers effected 2019 and 2020 models. Our 2021 have not had any speaker issues.
Maybe because it sat out there a whole year on a lot before it was purchased. Vehicles don't like to sit for long periods of time. Yep that's these new cars.
Seemed to me, you feel like you got a Pilot with some issues, but overall you like the Honda Pilot and would buy one again. The more accurate title might have been “Reasons you might not want to buy a Honda Pilot”, or “Problems with my 2019 Honda Pilot”. Of course, that’s not going to get the same clicks. I’ll blame the game, not the player, but if viewers and content providers don’t start pushing back, RUclips is not going to change. I just test drove the Pilot, and was disappointed. It had typical Honda ride and noise issues which aren’t bad considering the price point of the base models, but seem inappropriate when approaching 50k. I drove the MDX as well, and a buddy has the RDX, so I know Honda can do better. I’m replacing a 2013 Volvo XC70 that’s practically a limo for ride and noise, so it’s a big issue for me. It’s hard to go back.
@@Deelitee No, I wanted more cargo space, and I really do not trust their new engines. I might have bought a V90 anyways if it was offered with the old I6, because I just love love the look of it (apparently I’m in the minority because they don’t seem to sell many, and pre pandemic they depreciated like yellow bananas). I was really happy with my XC70, too. With all the crazy going on, I went crazy too and ordered a Land Rover from a dealer selling at MSRP. It’s got a great ride, lots of room, and great looks. Kind of hurts. Could have saved 20k if the Pilot had just been a little closer to the MDX in noise and comfort.

I am not impressed with my pilot 2017. Had the fuel injectors replaced under warranty for code 0430. Exactly 1 yr later same code again Nd now they say its the cat converter. Plus now its guzzling gas giving 14 mpg. I will never buy a new honda again.
Warning Honda Fraud! I purchased a 2023 Pilot Trailsport with the factory tow hitch, the day I planned on using it I realized it was missing the trailer wiring harness. The dealer estimate to get it installed is roughly $700! 😡

I can say only one issue that front hood did fly away … it’s pretty dangerous! Is it bcoz you hit car ? Or it just happened it self ? Rest is extra attachments problem.
Hi, mine didn’t fly away. Others have experienced the hood cracking. It could be catastrophic if the hood comes up while driving making you essentially blind to the road.
Honda not switching to timing chains is one of the smartest things I have ever seen any automaker do. The switch to timing chains has been an absolute nightmare for so many manufacturers and their customers!!
I had a 2017 pilot touring awd. It gave me a lot of troubles. On drive when I let go on a little hill it would roll back. Meanwhiley 2017 sonata didn't do that. At 55k miles the body control module and transmission started going bad. It cost me $1.4k to fix the control module and I wasn't about to spend thousands on the transmission. I do a transmission change every 30k mile using only genuine trans fluid. I also change the dif oil every 15k mile and the gear oil. When I change the shifter to drive, reserve or neutral I can hear a crunching noise. I had to trade it for a 2021 Nissan Rogue. How the hell does my 2017 sonata with over 130k outlast my 2017 Honda pilot with 55k miles. Not to mention the damn alarm kept going off even though the Honda dealership said they fixed it. Hondas are built so crappy now a days. The car was nothing but trouble for me and most of my family owns Hondas and Toyotas.
@@jdkrxw that's the going rate for mechanics and using honda parts I checked .my dealer wanted 1600 and checked with local mechanics with honda parts was 1200 to 1700.dont forget about the serpentine belt and oil gaskets idler pulleys tensioner water pump and refilling coolant .it's a lot more then just a belt and water pump tensioner for the proper way to do it.but dealer over charges on hourly so I go else where my lowest was 1200
Exactly. Some just have fewer issues than others. In my experience my Toyotas and Hondas have had the fewest issues while my one and only Ram was pretty much in the shop every other month lol.
Around minute 2, you mention Toyota and Apple car play and point to the pilot?? I don't think the cassette deck is haunting a Honda Pilot. If you are worried about the transmission, install a trans cooler. I did. That will add another .5-1 qt of fluid and allow for additional cooling. I feel you should do more research prior to creating a video, you missed many key points.
I went back and watched that section. The point was that Toyota didn’t have Apple CarPlay until 2020. Chevy had a commercial joking about Toyota still making cassette decks.
18 and up have chain , if most people actually read their owners manual severe wear which is damn near every driver trans shoul be done every 30k same with diff etc only thing we have issues it’s the clunking popping noise in front struts that Honda swears is normal

I have a 2019 Pilot Elite, nine speed transmission, 30,000 miles. I’ve had some of the recalls mentioned. I’m retired and drive mostly to Church and for pleasure. The Pilot has been great and gives a level of security in Minnesota winters. 22 mpg city and 26 Hwy.

The 2004 is a different engine the 2017 to 22 earth dreams ,your generation that engine is incredible my friend hit 390k and still going strong zero issues regular maintenance.I'm not sure 2017 and up will be as good as your generation car.i love my 2020 exl zero issues but I don't see it reaching 200k without issues
I have a 2018 exl. We’ve had no problems so far. 80,000 miles. I change oil every 3,000 with mobile one and Honda filters. Changed tranny fluid at 30,000. This is the best handling vehicle I’ve ever driven and we love it. BUT this vehicle has a direct injected engine which carbons up the injectors if you do a lot of short distance driving and don’t maintain the oil. People have had to replace the injectors with 30,000 miles. Thankfully there is a TSB which extends coverage on the injectors for 10 yrs. Or 150,000 miles. We drive mostly highway miles so we’ve been lucky.
I have a Pilot with 160k miles. I do one drain and fill (about three quarts) on the transmission every other oil change, so about every 10k miles. It still shifts like new.
Yup!!!!! i do one every oil change at 7.5k miles since the car yells for oil at 10k /0%left. And trans calls for 30k. I change oil at 30% and trans holds around 12qt so that should do it!!!🤞

@@MichaelLee-yh7ss with 170k miles now and the trans shifts like new, I have to disagree. The trans holds 9 quarts, so and since a drain and fill only charges three quarts, it is not excessive.

2017 Elite AWD here with about 75k miles. I use it for everything, including shenanigans. Never had any issues with any recalls, just a bad battery after 5 years and quickly-expended brake pads during the first year of ownership due to setting the auto-brake distance to high. Sound system is pretty good and can really handle a load when you turn it up. I am yet to blow out the speakers.
I've driven cross country, sometimes while towing a U-haul, another time a small car. No issues, so long as you don't use ACC or cruise control. I've pushed high 4/low 5 seconds 0-60 in Sport Manual on a newly laid road. The ATF cooler helps a lot. The only issue is that it feels very clunky when going into reverse, but that's only an issue on the 9- and 10-speeds. Sand mode + wet pavement is a potent combo for fun sliding. I still get about 20 mpg with everything factored in and about 27-28 mpg over some long haul trips.
Let the car take a breather on extremely hot days lest you cook the blindspot monitoring sensors, the transmission, and the idle-stop system. After parking in my driveway at the end of a very hot day of last-minute shopping before hosting relatives, the transmission put it self into neutral and the engine idle-revved to 8000 rpm until I manually shut it off. 30 minutes of cooling and all systems were back, but the idle-stop system took over a month to work right again.
I have the 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD. I bought it used at 44900 miles about a month after I bought it I got a transmission code which is a nuissance code. A sensor code on my torque converter. If I shut my car off it goes away, may not come back on for two weeks. I change my tranny fluid every 30,000 miles at Honda (too old to crawl under and do myself anymore). I have the towing pkg and rated for 5000 pounds. Most I tow is about 1000 pounds and can't see suspension holding 5k. No problems wirh infotainment except Andoid auto just stopped working. Never buy Honda again. Just replaced timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt (all one service) at Honda at 110,000 miles. Great video.

I have a 2019 Honda PIlot and have had no issues with it. I did get some recall notice about the fuel pump, but it was minimal disruption and they gave me a loaner Civic for the day with 50 KMs on it while the Pilot got fixed. It's been great to drive.
I have a 2005 Honda pilot 290,000 Miles still drives like new and kept it bought my wife a 2023 Honda Pilot she loves it it’s a fantastic SUV the best in its class V6 Naturally aspirated engine No turbo so the engine will last long till less stress on engine components for sure .

I have a 2019 Honda Pilot and it’s been a great experience, I didn’t have any of these issues
2019 Pilot EX AWD purchased new in July, 2019. Had the fuel issue (eventually resulted in a recall) that caused a broken valve after 4 weeks (around August 1, 2019). Repaired by the local Honda dealer, no issues since then, although the engine sounds like it's going to explode above 4500 RPM. As of Nov. 2019, 32500 miles. Pretty good vehicle overall. On long highway trips I get about 28mpg, but around town (suburbs) I'm lucky to get 15mpg. That's what traffic lights and stop signs will do for you!
We have an '18 model Pilot with the 6 speed. Have done 3 drain and fills in 50k miles. (one double) I used the Valvoline "universal" fluid at one point and the transmission started doing strange shifts and hesitations on startup (occasionally).. I then went back to the Honda fluid and these went away. The Honda fluid is $8 quart but well worth it. It even smells alot different than the Valvoline, almost a "sweet" smell so there's got to be additional additives in the Honda fluid. I plan to keep doing a drain and fills at 13-15k intervals max. I think a flush might be good every second or third change, but I haven't decided yet. The brakes on this thing are amazing, barely any wear in 50k miles. They use a "rebound" spring that helps alot I think. Also I bought another wheel to mount a full sized spare and it fits just fine underneath in the rear where the spare goes. Peace of mind on late night/weekend trips. May have affected headlight aim, I should check that!! Also we had the factory hitch installed, which I believe included a transmission cooler? (correct me if I'm wrong) We don't really do any towing, just mount a bike rack, but I thought the extra trans cooling would be good to have..
I own this suv, I didn’t have any of these problems, but I do agree about why a timing belt Honda
very thorough. As a 2021 Pilot owner I can say some of these issues have been resolved, but many still persist. I'm really hoping there's a powertrain and infotainment upgrade with the new 2023 model.

Wasn’t a update. I was told by my dealership they had to replace the wire because it was a pitch in the system the way the dash and A pillar was installed. Feel sorry for that person doing the install at the production plant 😂
I have 59K on my 2017 version.
Had 1 recall notice, but it runs great and gets 33-35 mph in the summer on the highway. Gotta drive these things w a light foot - it isn’t a truck.
Toyota V-6 engines get severe timing cover leaks and need to be removed from the car to fix it - cost over $3K. Water pumps are also difficult to change. By using a timing belt designed to be changed without removing the engine, you take care of everything at that interval.
I’ve got 2 Toyota’s with the 3.5L V6. Both have over 200k miles. Neither of them have timing cover leaks; or any oil leaks for that matter.
I’ve also owned 2 Tundras and a Tacoma. The first Tundra I sold with 268,000mi. The Tacoma was sold sold with 200,000 mi. My current Tundra has 170,000mi. No oil leaks on any of them either.
The most I’ve ever had to repair on any of my cars outside of regular maintenance was a water pump on the Tacoma and a blower motor on my wife’s Venza.

I bought a 2008 Pilot in 2001 ($5,000)..GREAT car..It's been 3 years. I just put new tires on it (Uniroyals)...I expect it to go another 200,000 miles..I am going to give it to our daughter next year, when I get a new car..They would not give me the value on a trade in--This car is awesome and I intend to keep it in the family..
After reading all the comments about this model, we decided to get a different make and model. Videos like these make me happy that we did because ours has been perfect so far. Still, I am looking to see what the 2023 Honda Pilot has to offer, and might try that version of the Pilot. Fingers crossed...

I just got a 2019 with 45k on it for my family. Every honda I have owned has lasted forever. I had no idea honda quality has taken a hit. I really hope my pilot doesn't have longevity issues...
I’ve changed the transmission fluid several times, and that works. But, the infotainment system is garbage. Pops and crackles. Honda has given up on fixing it.

I just had the front head assembly replaced in my 2019 Pilot EXL. It was really just the camshaft, but since that part was on national backorder and my Pilot was still under powertrain warranty at less than 50K miles, they replaced the entire head assembly because they could get that part sooner. This will probably be the last Honda I ever buy.

I replaced my Honda CRV Timing belt on my 100,000 service , it wasnt needed , but was done as precautionary for later. Cost $ 300.00
Im at 112,000 wit the 2012 CRV , and the only problems i've had with it has been a replaced front axle at 60,000 Miles for slippage at high speeds .
It was just out of warranty and cost me a cool ( 2k $$$$ Cha-ching) . I'm here comparing for a pilot ....as my next vehicle .
I own a Honda Pilot 2019, I have changed full pump, it makes a weird noise before and poor pick up! My CD player is not working! He is point on! Only reason am keeping the car is it’s paid off!

The 2015 is one of the best if not the best Pilot ever. It’s a tank, super reliable .
They had all the kinks worked out with that generation. Also, it was more of a truck chassis than the 16 redesign.
That is what I really wanted 2015 Honda Pilot Touring. My Husband on the other hand didn't like the beefy look . I loved it. The running boards roof rack black wheels white body and black interior. I wanted to have it lifted and better tires. He said No😢. I got the 2016 Honda Pilot ex $16k with 126k miles. To me it is such a soccer mom vehicle and yes we needed a vehicle for our family vacation for we need 8 seater. I can't take this on the beach or in the mud😢 We still have to take our Tundra for me to have fun 😂
I have a 2019 EXL. I haven't had any issues. I have S-VCM installed so hopefully no issues with my engine. I wouldn't trade my 6 speed for the 9 speed any day! As for tires, OEM tires are always garbage. They're not as good as the actual brand if you bought it from a tire shop. I'm running Geolander A/T and they're awesome. Great car so far at 62k miles. Possibly going for the new 2023, but unsure.
To Avoid Transmission issues do the following:
1. Install an external ATF Cooler.
2. Install an external ATF filter and replace it every 15k miles

If you towing, you need to install transmission cooler
The timing belt is not that bad . Serviced J series at 120k still look new. It's costs less than a set of tires so I am not sure what the big fuss is about.
Fuss is dealer wants at less 1k to chnge it i think! and the trans cooler is good idea even if not towing, send it though a cooler on the outside of the radiator then back through the radiator one for operating temp, if it uses the radiater style cooler.🤷
Thanks for sharing! Your video is very informative. I get about 23 mpg on the highway and 13 to 14 in the city. My pilot is the 2007 EXL 4WD no VCM 154k miles. I replaced the original timing belt water pump and all related parts at 146k miles with OEM parts.
@ 148k miles I switched to valvoline Maxlife full synthetic AFT and the 5 speed transmission runs great at any speed. I took care of the transfer case and differential fluid too.
In my case my 07 pilot has been nothing but ultra reliable, the only mayor repair was the Radiator at 149k miles due to a minor leak due to rust followed by rear coil springs, rotors, spark plugs, brakes and rear shocks everything else is still original.
Hopefully the new 2023 pilot could finally be my upgrade if it’s done right.
Otherwise I see myself driving a Toyota 4Runner in the future.
Own a 2007 with 165k miles (car is a beast), and a 2016 Elite that I'm not as happy with. My main complaint is the infotainment system with the same static problem. I'm not paying $1k for a new radio, for the past year I've been listening with a blue tooth speaker in the car.
Constant segues are mildly annoying. Owners have suggested disabling the cylinder deactivation and running an aftermarket transmission cooler.
2021 Pilot. Front end collision sensors suck, engine idle stall should be one and done not every time you start the car, 15k rear diff fluid change & 25k transmission fluid change very expensive(Honda recommended). Going back to a Mitsubishi Outlander, had a 2018 with 50K and nothing but oil changes. Just turned 50K on the Honda--> 2 transmission fluid changes at $300 a pop, 2 rear diff fluid changes at $200 each, new tires at 35K and 4 wheel alignment $1500. So at 50K I'm $2500 in routine maintenance for a vehicle that's $10K more expensive than the Outlander.
Wheel alignment is not necessary unless the car has been in a serious accident where suspension was involved, if steering ends/ rods are replaced, or very excessive wear on tires is noticed. Save your money and decline an alignment when at any tire shop or dealership it will be offered.
I have the same Pilot, EX-L 2019 with 79K. One set of tires, one set of brakes, oil and filter changes every 5K along with changing the tranny and rear diff fluid (2x)..... No issues and loving it. The only recall was for the hood latch that was fixed in 5 minutes. I just did a brake fluid flushing. Fuel milage on the highway at 68-70mph is 31, around town its 20-21

Both my pilot and my neighbors pilot A/C compressor went out at about 50k miles. I have to constantly change trans fluid and that’s not normal. Push button start recall change, injector recall, hood latch recall, I get 16mpg. Changed radiator, water pump and timing belt. I should of bought another Tahoe at this point. Less issues.
I have a 2019 exl 2 wheel drive, after about 3 months of use any dirt on the cable on phone will disrupt the head unit, the rear entertainment needs to be reset by shutting down the car when the sound or Wi-Fi fails. I do like the system for what it provides for the family on trips. I didn’t trust my 2016 touring after transmission issues. Random limp mode after hard acceleration getting on highways. I plan on keeping my 2019 exl for a long time also. I like the car mine jus hit 60k. Lots of highway driving. Change the brakes fluid also. Mine was quite dirty after 50k. I get 23.8 mpg for my driving. You’re not that far off.

i had the 2016 and it was horrible,same issue you mention i can't believe honda didn't fix those issues on newer models at 45k miles a had transmission problem, electric problem, hood problem ect.. it got total lost by huracan Ian whit the insurance money im going back with Toyota

Ting belt 50 bucks plus the 3.5hrs labor. $1500 is way too much. FYI timing belt is not a cheap way to manufacture an engine. There are benefits to belt vs. Chain. Mechanics prefer belts. The belt requires change at 100k miles. I guess people expect things to last forever.
To be fair many people, including myself, come from older, simpler models and just want the darn thing to drive with standard maintenance. Back days it was simpler but now, many people don’t realize that we are driving computers 😂😂😂 and they are here to stay and get even more complicated.
There’s a recall and I had a 3 month wait for my appointment which is tomorrow morning. Hopefully this fixes the crackling sound and the sudden disconnect of my phone.
Hood latch fuel pump was recalled every co has a recall free fix this is why I only buy base models half the crap they put on new vehicles aren't worth the money I ve got the 9 speed transmission on my ridgeline I love it.
What worries me more are the things some companies decide to ignore. Like GM key cylinders.
I used Redline ATF [D6]...got 325 k on my 04 Accord...4 cylinder...towed a trailer of about 1000 lbs. .still was like new...
Sadly the Honda J35 V6 enigine uses Timing Belt, part of its desing, however that is not the end of the world, just make sure to replace the belt when needed.
I have a 2000 CR-V, its B20B engine uses timing belt, even a 2007 Hyundai Accent that I had used timing belt, just make sure to take a look at it every 30k miles and replace it along with the water pump and the tensioner.
Pretty glad my 20 year old rig doesn’t have an infotainment system. I use my phone for most things.
Phones are definitely the best way to go. The infotainment system has been the biggest headache with the Pilot.
Just noticed on my folks 2019 elite, tires look like they peeled out over thumbtacks. Tires have small chunks ripped out. I was thinking they werent UV treated or something similar. Then I look up recalls and see Continental tire recall for tires being over cured. Which got me looking online/youtube - brought me here.
Crazy recalls. One recall for some parts not being fully welded. My dad got an alignment and then took it back and they redid it and it's still not right. Going to be on them about getting it total recalled/fully up to date on all recalls.
Any resolve with the alignment? We have a 2020 Pilot and have had a wheel alignment several times and is still not fully fixed, still drifts to the right.

I have a 2019 Honda pilot EXL front wheel drive transmission replaced at 43,000 miles and do with the soldering of the engine cause my engine mounts to be replaced again all engine mounts. Replace three times assist transmission has been replace experiencing Sutter when engaging in overdrive dealership refuse to change fuel pump, saying it was just a check on fuel pump at two different dealerships. Please do all of your service maintenance so they won’t owe Him turn down your warranty but I do have an extended warranty up to 110,000 miles just been great to replace my engine mounts on the third round again get all your fluids as he recommends change because they will turn down you want to if you do not have everything change also Kerlix parison right front brake caliper issues they replace my pass, but still doing the same issues. Please be aware of the dealership that you purchase from. Thank you.
I've had 4 Pilots. Latest is a 2018 model. TURN. OFF. YOUR. VCM. SYSTEM. using a VCM Muzzler or VCM Tuner2. This will stop the torque converter shudder, which will destroy the transmission - as it did on my 2018 model at 45k miles (still under warranty thank goodness). You will loose about 1/2mpg on the highway, but is it is very well worth it.
What is the VCM system? VCM Nuzzler?

My Mom's 2019 Honda Pilot has had issues where it doesn't start sometimes and it has happened since it was first purchased in spring 2019. Dealer said sometimes it happens when vehicle isn't driven much. She hardly drives it (only 3,500 miles so far and it's 2022) and while the not-starting issue mostly disappeared, yesterday we were going to use it to cruise around and it wouldn't start. Needed a jump. No one has ever explained why an almost new vehicle would have issues starting. I'm thinking now it might need a new battery but anyone else seen/heard issues like this?
So, when I first bought this Pilot, I found a gps tracker hooked into the OBD plug. It was a fleet tracker that the dealership forgot had installed for another potential buyer. Anyway, this thing used some power. Also, if you are not taking long enough trips, the alternator never has a chance to fully charge the battery between uses. So, try to run the engine at least 10-15 minutes each time you use it. Finally, OEM batteries only last 3-5 years anyway, so it might be time for a new battery. Good luck!

@@Deelitee the lead plates get oxidation and/or the acid evaporates until the batteries eventually get weak. You could get more life out of one depending on weather.
You could also use a smart charger like a Battery Tender to keep the battery topped up. All cars drain the battery while sitting.

I think they should of installed trans coolers from factory, i dont remember if it has the lower radiator style cooler, but installing one is a must to keep the atf temps down!!!!!

Loading the car down or towing anything for sure puts it over its temp range! Instead of getting the overpriced-ish one from OEM there are a few cheap options with good reviews on Amazon to be had for less than 50 bucks and are pretty easy to install if you are capable of removing the lower shield! I'm want to find a good laser temperature reader to see how efficient the one I have is at cooling the trans fluid temp!
We get 27mpg on the hwy in our 2018. We do not have a touring model. We also had a transmission replacment @ 40k.

Hi, I’m not yet familiar with the 9 speed transmission, but those models have auto stop/start and that feature has had a lot of reliability issues stalling at lights. I would get a Highlander in the future.
I have a 2020 honda pilot exl 6 spd .stay away from the 9 spd.my other vehicle I was looking at was the highlander but it's a lot smaller then the pilot when I looked at it and 3rd row and captain chairs are a joke .my kids couldn't really fit in 3rd row and truck is tiny when 3rd row is up and headroom is smaller then pilot.the suspension in the 2020 highlander was much softer then the pilot. And highlander had old technology and no android auto in the xle leather model and the get up and go was less then the pilot also.my 2020 exl pilot with nav and res is great no issue what so ever besides the tires I tossed them at 28k bridgestone duelers worst tires on market 2nd honda with them and only got less then 30k .I went with michelin defenders living in Massachusetts.ive had no issues with infotainment system or injectors but I do run fuel injector cleaner in it regularly and I change the oil at 40% and fill up with 93 octone every other fill .I have 30k on my car
I have a Pilot with the 9 speed and a Ridgeline with 6 speed. There's a reason why they switched from 6 to the 9 speed on the Ridgeline. The 6 speed is trash.
I have a 2020 honda pilot with the 6 speed with 107k miles on it and no issues. My friend has a Odyssey van woth yhe ZF 9 speed transmission. She had the mapping issues with it when she bought it and Honda finally fixed those issues. She does the same job as me. We are medical couriers. She has 256k plus miles on her transmissions and no issues with it. I'm interested in seeing how long hers will last. We both drive a little over 8k a month. I'm going to trade my pilot in next spring and buy a Toyota Camry. Aisin makes some of the best transmissions in the world. You can never go wrong with the automatic and cvt transmissions in the Toyota. They are the longest lasting in the industry. Honda no longer uses the ZF9 in the new pilot. They use a in house 10 speed transmission that's also found in the 2.0 liter turbo Accords. I've seen some of those transmissions with 250k on them. It's relatively a newer transmission from Honda that came out in 2017.

You need a good battery for this vehicle especially if you use heated seats and steering wheel or if you have a dash cam... The auto engine off can weaken your battery with other accessories or heaters working and it will die at a fresh green light...

I have the 2017 Pilot EXL AWD, I have some infotainment issues, but biggest issue I had to date was water leaking in rear hatch. Got that resolved. Transmission has a bad sensor on torque converter which is annoying. Rear suspension is a shock which resides inside of rear spring so rear air bags can't be installed. Have you had any wet weather issues with your Falken tires? I was considering them but so a lot of bad reviews in wet weather.

This Video has really give me much to look out for. My Question is: depending on the mileage on the one i buy, what and what checks/servicing/replacement do you advice i do over there(in the US) before shipping it down?
I would definitely changed the transmission fluid if it has over 30k miles and has not been done.
2017 Honda Pilot owner here. Make sure you check to see if the fuel injector replacement TSB doesn't affect your model year. Transmission seems like a week spot from off the lot. Seems even more iffy now despite fluid change.

We have a 2021 Special Edition with 80K miles. We love it. Only regular maintenance. And still getting around 24mpg.
And yeah, I think the static issue with the speakers effected 2019 and 2020 models. Our 2021 have not had any speaker issues.
Maybe because it sat out there a whole year on a lot before it was purchased. Vehicles don't like to sit for long periods of time. Yep that's these new cars.

Seemed to me, you feel like you got a Pilot with some issues, but overall you like the Honda Pilot and would buy one again.
The more accurate title might have been “Reasons you might not want to buy a Honda Pilot”, or “Problems with my 2019 Honda Pilot”. Of course, that’s not going to get the same clicks. I’ll blame the game, not the player, but if viewers and content providers don’t start pushing back, RUclips is not going to change.
I just test drove the Pilot, and was disappointed. It had typical Honda ride and noise issues which aren’t bad considering the price point of the base models, but seem inappropriate when approaching 50k. I drove the MDX as well, and a buddy has the RDX, so I know Honda can do better. I’m replacing a 2013 Volvo XC70 that’s practically a limo for ride and noise, so it’s a big issue for me. It’s hard to go back.

I might have bought a V90 anyways if it was offered with the old I6, because I just love love the look of it (apparently I’m in the minority because they don’t seem to sell many, and pre pandemic they depreciated like yellow bananas). I was really happy with my XC70, too.
With all the crazy going on, I went crazy too and ordered a Land Rover from a dealer selling at MSRP. It’s got a great ride, lots of room, and great looks. Kind of hurts. Could have saved 20k if the Pilot had just been a little closer to the MDX in noise and comfort.

All Honda V6 engines have timing belts. Barely any other car manufacturer uses timing belts these days.

I am not impressed with my pilot 2017. Had the fuel injectors replaced under warranty for code 0430. Exactly 1 yr later same code again Nd now they say its the cat converter. Plus now its guzzling gas giving 14 mpg. I will never buy a new honda again.
I feel the same way. Luckily no injection problems yet.
Not crazy issues, but definitely not like the Hondas of old! Can't go wrong with a Toyota 4Runner. They are about as reliable as the old Hondas!

If you look under the back, there will be axles on an AWD. A front wheel drive won’t have axles in the back. Just struts.
You can also put in your VIN number look up. AutoZone has free VIN look up. It will pull up what year, make, model, type you have.

Hi, mine didn’t fly away. Others have experienced the hood cracking. It could be catastrophic if the hood comes up while driving making you essentially blind to the road.
Honda not switching to timing chains is one of the smartest things I have ever seen any automaker do. The switch to timing chains has been an absolute nightmare for so many manufacturers and their customers!!

I had a 2017 pilot touring awd. It gave me a lot of troubles. On drive when I let go on a little hill it would roll back. Meanwhiley 2017 sonata didn't do that. At 55k miles the body control module and transmission started going bad. It cost me $1.4k to fix the control module and I wasn't about to spend thousands on the transmission. I do a transmission change every 30k mile using only genuine trans fluid. I also change the dif oil every 15k mile and the gear oil. When I change the shifter to drive, reserve or neutral I can hear a crunching noise. I had to trade it for a 2021 Nissan Rogue. How the hell does my 2017 sonata with over 130k outlast my 2017 Honda pilot with 55k miles. Not to mention the damn alarm kept going off even though the Honda dealership said they fixed it. Hondas are built so crappy now a days. The car was nothing but trouble for me and most of my family owns Hondas and Toyotas.
Would you buy it again if you knew then what you know now?
I would go with a Highlander. I just ticked over 60k miles, so starting to plan for that $1500 timing belt job.

@@jdkrxw that's the going rate for mechanics and using honda parts I checked .my dealer wanted 1600 and checked with local mechanics with honda parts was 1200 to 1700.dont forget about the serpentine belt and oil gaskets idler pulleys tensioner water pump and refilling coolant .it's a lot more then just a belt and water pump tensioner for the proper way to do it.but dealer over charges on hourly so I go else where my lowest was 1200

Exactly. Some just have fewer issues than others. In my experience my Toyotas and Hondas have had the fewest issues while my one and only Ram was pretty much in the shop every other month lol.

Around minute 2, you mention Toyota and Apple car play and point to the pilot?? I don't think the cassette deck is haunting a Honda Pilot. If you are worried about the transmission, install a trans cooler. I did. That will add another .5-1 qt of fluid and allow for additional cooling. I feel you should do more research prior to creating a video, you missed many key points.

I went back and watched that section. The point was that Toyota didn’t have Apple CarPlay until 2020. Chevy had a commercial joking about Toyota still making cassette decks.
