Coleman Hot Water Shower, 2 Years Later (Product Review)

- The Coleman Hot Water on Demand is a portable hot water heater that uses a very simple system involving a water pump and propane cylinder fueled water heater that offers a portable hot water shower solution. Intended primarily for camping uses, I found it a very convenient asset for my Off the Grid Living. I have used this product extensively since I first purchased it and reviewed it on this channel 2 years ago. I am here to tell you what has held up and what hasn't, as well as my likes and dislikes for this product.
Join my dog and I at our wilderness homestead in the Canadian North. This channel features videos on off-the-grid lifestyle and building, trapline adventures, hunting, fishing, trucks and much more!
I live off the land in a self reliant and self sufficient lifestyle. The land provides me with everything I need. My offgrid cabin is solar powered, heated by a wood stove and most everything I eat comes from the land; fish, eggs from my chickens, and many different wild game species. The lifestyle I live is essentially expense free and blesses me with the opportunity to do whatever I please.
In the winter months we head out on the trapline and ethically harvest fur bearing animals. Through moderate and sustainable methods I snare and trap these animals and work on, and sell the pelts at auction which provides a decent income for me to invest in my off the grid homestead and lifestyle.

Cheers from Miramichi, NB!
Nice looking hair cut. Thanks for sharing about the water heater!
Like everyone else has said, the new hair cut is mint. It would be very awesome to take a shower out on the porch of the cabin out in the middle of the bush.
Ever since we built our cabin we have purchased so many ( devices ) such as your shower set up that you don't need all the modern things like most homes have....
There is a device for everything that does not require so much power if any at all.....
The only thing we spent a lot of money on is our solar , propane tank that allows us to refill our smaller tanks and our water tanks complete with a filtration system ....
All the other devices they have now has completed our cabin.....
It feels so good to be free of the corporations that rob people every day.....
God bless and love your videos
Who do you you think developed and marketed your purchases, not the tooth fairy. No more little houses on the prairie. Admire your minimalist approach.

Wrong side of the bed huh !!!
You are looking good there my northern brother, thanks for our review from you.
Great review. I don’t use the closed container it came with, instead I use a collapsible plastic tub so I can circulate the water and not waste any.
Cool contraption. I didnt recognize ya till you spoke, lol 🙂
Nice hair cut. Good lookin young man. Love your videos

Greetings from sunny southwest Florida. Love the new look. Always love the videos. Keep up the good work.
Getting it all fixed up! Liken' the new look, too.
Watch your videos at work to keep me awake during the overnight shift!!!! Keep em comming!!
All in all it's a pretty slick out fit. I never thought about doing the dishes with it. Do you shower on the porch to tease the bears? The world is waiting anxiously for the shower video, the bears are too. I see now why you catch the rain water. That water warmed up pretty quick. The hair cut looks like a new man. Good video. Peace.
Another great episode of tanlines N traplines

Liking the hair cut
Wow! I certainly could have used that at my off-grid cabin in 2013-2014
Glad you mentioned the years. That’s good, helpful, and pertinent information for the rest of us.
nice
Awesome 😎
Awesome review.. love your accent.. nyc here, but I do alot of traveling with my 3 year old.. definitely will be getting 1 of these shortly.. THANKS
Great video / love the accent :)) thank you for making this video and doing such a great job on the product review it’s helping me make a decision in the future , on how to have hot water on demand
Keep the good videos coming 🥇
Hello from Texas
I almost didn’t recognize you buddy... you are looking older or maybe it’s just the haircut 😊👍 another great review video!
Holy haircut!
Good idea to get an adapter (amazon or elsewhere) so you can charge those expensive 1# bottles from a 25# one. Five bucks for a bottle here in the states as compared to ten or twelve for 25# bottle fill. Depending on where you are.
You are more Canadian than Canada itself. Good review
I like it. might need some tweaking here and there but sounds like if you plug it in it's a good unit 👍🏻
Thanks. Very helpful. What is your accent? Your use of vocabulary is so interesting. You sound young and old at the same time. I suspect you have spent some quality time with your grandparents or other elders. May this spring and summer be good ones for you. Happy spring! It is starting to warm up!
I got one myself a few months back but havnt used it yet!
I installed mine permanent in my trailer and i like it but The only downside is a little bit of propane smell and sometimes very seldom the igniter won’t light up right away like when new but I shut it down and restart it and it works. I think that it may be the battery but everything is great besides that.
Wow, looking good. Did you meet a girl?
Have you considered building an outdoor shower house for it?
Thanks friend! Based on your review I'm buying one of these units and building a shower/toilet structure around it. I'll be using a pickle barrel for water supply. Question though: where exactly are you showering anyway?
I’d probably get one but a steam bath and a lake are much nicer 👍thanks bub
Now you have to go back and review the tactical shovel 😁
I have the Base Camp Shower by Mr Heater. Can get 4 showers one a charge or plug it in to the generator. I drop the pump into a 15 gallon barrel. Got mine from Walmart. Had to order it. Little over 300.00 US with shipping.
Is your Base camp shower still holding up? I’m looking at getting one for dishes and showers. TYIA
Good review Brother!
As a part of the video, you should've actually taken a shower. You would've picked up 100.000 subscribers overnight. Carry on!
haha thats funny

Great video , what's the best way to power it without electricity ?
You mentioned its battery is weak .
Is this good for real camping ?
Its too bad Coleman changed the design. I have the original HWOD, had it for probably more than 10 years and still works amazing. The original started both the pump and the propane at the same time whe you turned the dial. Easy on, easy off. Only thing I've had to change has been the battery, but have probably used it for 100 showers and plenty of dishes etc. Maybe Coleman will improve it again, 1st gen rocked and I still use it steady at my camp.
Still enjoying the progress and thanks for the effort in making all the videos!
100 showers in 10 years? Stinky
@@ek8710 So rude. Do you go camping every day?
Maybe they could have made a hand crank generator for bush use. Greetings from Michigan.
How about modifying the water line with a diversion valve and a return line? I'm looking at this for my truck (semi) and I kind of need to preserve my water supply. I'm thinking it runs back into my water tank when I soap up or waiting for it to heat. Then use what I need. Seems like a simple modufication and the unit would have constant water flowing over the heating unit.
Hello friend!!!!!
Hey you should get water tank that goes around ur wood burning stove pipe n some copper tubbing to heat ur water n to take warm shower n I seen it on a John Wayne western movie ok. I think the movie was Eldorado
👍👍👍👍
Add a water cutoff in line or showerhead.
Hmm.... That might be the way to go for the next moose hunt. Thanks.
Oh ya you could put a Solar water heater on ur Roof n do it that way too n I seen them on RUclips
What kind of charger are you using to top up your battery bank when the solar is bad ! I'm running one of these bluettis but I want a full system . You seen these new growat all in one systems ? I don't know thinking about going renogy but I'm on a budget ! What kind of batterys you running?
One or two episodes ago. Goes over the system and installs a new inverter. Actually there’s a link at the end of this vid!
how is it plugged into the cabin? I thought it doesnt have a wall plug?
Is there a bath version?
👍
$6 usd buys you a adapter that lets you use a 20lb lpg tank (4 gal) to refill your 1 lb lpg (green) tank buy it on eBay, saves you some mad cash my guy and waste from excess tanks 😉
Adapter cost me 44.00 at Canadian tire and it doesn't work.
@@livableincome get the adapter from eBay
Make your owe shut off valve like few inch from the hose by using quick connect parts all you need is shutoff valve, 2 couplings..just idea.
How hot does the exhaust get? I’m thinking of building a camper van and want to know if I can seal it in a insulated steel can, vent it outside. Or if anyone has tried it, inside a camper van and have feedback… that would be great.
So it always needs a mains supply to work? May as well just have an electric shower.
Nice hair cut
I know u depend on rain water but have u considered installing your own well now that u have power u could install a well with a pump for all your water needs. Really dont think u would have to go to deep to find the water either cuz your homestead begin lower than the workshop is and dont think u need to hire a well driller to install it. Could pound in your pipe til u hit water
Show us what kinda kinfe u carry or knife's u use or axes
how do you plug in to house power
We’re did you get that bag my man?
Is it possible to connect a larger propane tank (like for a grill) to this?
I want to know this too
I'm sure you can get an adapter
🍻
does it heat cold cold water?
I did not have the same experience. I took this overlanding and it didn’t work even once. I wouldn’t recommend. I even traded it out and didn’t work again. The igniter isn’t reliable especially in higher elevations like Colorado.
Also $65-85 usd will buy you a tankless lpg tankless water heater with automatic pilot pressure switch . Save your money my guy you gotta adapt to the new tech lol hmu for more info anyone that's interested, I've one in my home and for a family of 5, showering, washing clothes, cars, pressure washing my home, running dishwasher, etc we use around 50 gallons or 200lb or approximately $98 usd a year in lpg hope I can help someone, oh and we have well water and never have a pressure problem, actually my tankless heater allows me to increase my shower pressure by 8-10 fold it's awesome best $85 I ever spent had mine 5 years I change my batteries 1 time a year incase anyone was wondering...
Went to buy one of these babies and they've discontinued them!! No comparable product available either!
oh shit

Hey there love your show. I can't wait until your next videos to come out. 👍
Camplux Nano 3 Pro Portable Water Heater
Hey buddy, I had an idea why don’t you stick the showerhead in a bucket and reclaim all that water while you’re lathering up.
Thanks for showing - I agree, Coleman is not top of the line, but having the water flow before you can start the burner is a no-go for me. May be it's to protect the heater, ensuring it's completely filled with water - have you tried to reduce the flow to a minimum while the burner is firing up?
Right now from your review it looks more like a piece of sh.. to me. There are so much similar systems out there (HotTap, Mr.Heater etc.), I don't need issues like this.
I've heard of people running a return line back to your water tank. Just a 3 way valve so it either recycles water or comes out hot. If water flow stops the unit will turn off (protection from overheat).
Bonjour,
Quelqu'un pourrait-il "grossièrement" me dire en Français comment fonctionne l'appareil SVP ?
